Page deleted "Tresa McAlhaney (Antes)"

I recently created a page for a Gubernatorial candidate named Tresa McAlhaney. The page was deleted citing copyright infringement based on information taken from our website http://www.vote4kansas.com.

It is extremely important that Mrs. McAlhaney have an active Wikipedia page and I can assure that the content created on the page was original content. As webmaster of the website, I created the original content on the website and as such, am authorized to repeat said information on the Wikipedia page.

Please let me know how we can get this resolved and re-activate the wiki page.

~~Roxi Nevin, Roxstar Promotion

No matter how important it is to you that this page appears on Wikipedia, I'm afraid that as it stood it cannot. One problem is the copyright issue. You might be authorised to post this text in various places. All well and good. But not here. Wikipedia is licensed under Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 3.0 for free reuse by anyone anywhere, including commercial use and modification. Your text is copyright and is not available for free use. It can be licensed by you, but I don't advise it as the tone is (as would be expected) promotional, and I can see no sign that the subject passes WP:BIO. Standing as a candidate does not confer notability (our definition of notability, that is). Please see WP:POLITICIAN. This may seem unfair, as those already elected to notable positions usually have an article, but we aren't free webspace for electioneering or other promotion. If someone passes WP:BIO and this can be proved with reliable independent sources WP:RS, then they stand a chance of an article. But coverage that results from candidature does not count for notability. As a UK citizen who does not even support any of the UK parties, I am quite neutral in this. The same rule applies to all candidates in any country and of any political persuasion. Be assured that any sign of electioneering material appearing in the incumbent's article (if any) will be removed as soon as it is spotted. Do feel free to point out anything like that. BTW - please don't use <nowiki> - it's a bit of coding to stop other bots of coding from working so that they show on screen rather than performing their task. It helps us explain to people things like how to sign their posts - if I type ~~~~ with the nowiki, it shows like that. If I just type it, it puts my sig up like this: Peridon (talk) 16:22, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Way To Go

(Redacted) — Preceding unsigned comment added by HoshiNoKaabii2000 (talkcontribs) 16:05, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

I deleted the page because the subject was not notable by our standard WP:BIO. I had no idea of your age, and it makes no difference. We sometimes have to suppress personal information being posted by young people for reasons of safety, but in terms of editing here, the same rules apply to 8 year olds and 80 year olds. (We sometimes have to explain things in simpler terms to the 80 year olds...) We have no age restriction on editing, unlike many sites, and we have (so far as I am aware) more than one administrator under the age of 18. (Not me...) We do require editing to fit our standards, though. By the way, SineBot is a bot and you don't need to apologise to it. Apart from the user 'I, Jethrobot', virtually any username ending in bot IS a bot. Just a hard working little bit of coding. I think one or two have admin powers, but those are limited and they do specialised work that needs one particular admin power. Bots have to be authorised by a committee of people who know what they're doing with that level of coding. (I think. I hope, anyway.) OK? Which is better - being treated as every other Wikipedian is, or being treated as some poor kid who's wandered in (and hopefully will wander out again...)? Peridon (talk) 16:43, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Talkback

Why did you delete my Movie Feuds page? I only just made it, and was going to add more into the article as time goes on, I have two jobs so I can't take hours on end adding information. How is it not important? Don't say that Youtube channels are not important, because then why does Smosh have a channel? The man wanted me to make an article to get the word out on his page and he wanted one to show all the information!

So why delete it?

Please undelete it or send me the information that was in the article, I worked hard on that. SpaceCaseGame (talk) 04:40, 4 August 2013 (UTC)SpaceCaseGame

Why did I delete it? Because there was no indication of significance. Smosh are notable. There is a good reference list (and I've even seen Smosh related merchandise in HMV), and anyway WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Smosh are an exception to the general non-notability of YouTube channels. Apart from which, "an article to get the word out on his page and he wanted one to show all the information" is not what Wikipedia is about. That's using Wikipedia for advertising or promotion, and that is not allowed. If you can show notability with reliable independent sources WP:RS, then let me know. If not, 'the man' doesn't get an article. BTW I nearly didn't see your post on my page - there are instructions just above where you posted that new threads should go at the bottom of the page. Peridon (talk) 10:09, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
I'm sorry, let me reprahse that. I didn't mean that he wanted it to be advertised, he wanted all of the information in one place, so that is what I tried to do. Like I said, It takes alot of time to put everything down on the article, so if you would just give me a chance to show the importance, it would be much obliged. SpaceCaseGame (talk) 03:40, 6 August 2013 (UTC)SpaceCaseGame
While I can't forbid the posting of an article, I can suggest letting me know what references you are going to use first. Without reliable independent sources, it's not worth going further. Peridon (talk) 17:47, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

"On the Ground News Reports"

I recently created a page for On the Ground News Reports, a citizen's journalism website. You deleted the page and the reason given was "Article about a website, blog, web forum, webcomic, podcast, browser game, or similar web content, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject" however while only three sentences were written in the draft, there was a citation to a newspaper article from a major local newspaper regarding their investment offer, their growth, significance to Jamaica and how they have changed the news landscape in Jamaica: http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/business/On-the-Ground-News-targets--30m-for-15--stake_14728610. Did that link not sufficiently show the importance and significance of the subject? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marctheram (talkcontribs) 15:18, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, no. It's about an attempt to raise finance. Any business can do that without it making them notable. A large part of it was direct quote from one of the bosses, rather than an independent analysis of the company or coverage to show that it is notable. What he says may be true, but it's not independent. Have a look at WP:RS (reliable independent sources). Peridon (talk) 16:00, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Did you read the article? It clearly states that "On the Ground News Reports" is the 3rd largest news media site in Jamaica and by extension the English speaking Caribbean. It also clearly states that it is supported by Alexa http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/www.og.nr

Courtney Patterson (talk) 19:14, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

We don't take account of Alexa. Third biggest isn't of itself notable for a population of under three million - the biggest might well be. I'm not stopping anyone trying again - but I am suggesting that to avoid AfD they add some decent references. Peridon (talk) 19:24, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

It was a work in progress... there are other sources but I hope you see the difficulty in developing an article on something very relevant to millions of people when you consider the population to be small because of whatever country you are from. Your bias is the reason why it was deleted, not any bias in the Wikipedia article. The population of a country may be smaller than what you think is sufficient to warrant 'importance' but in reality it is the opinion of 3 million people vs you alone. There will inevitably be subject matter which may not have received widespread independent analysis from sources you consider to be credible but they can still be relevant and current and can be described on Wikipedia without bias. In this case, the reference spoke to the investment offer but was primarily about the role of the website and the work of the founders. In the US there may be a lot more coverage in media and I do not know whether to that population the third largest website is considered 'important or significant', but if you realise that the references you expect for this will be competitors - other news organisations (particularly, the top 2). If the source was not seen as 'credible' then I do not understand how this could be used to delete the entire article as opposed to suggesting a cleanup of the sources. Three sentences were written before the article was deleted... I am not sure you read it or the source before deleting it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marctheram (talkcontribs) 21:31, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

I did read it and the source too. I would suggest finding some more sources and then starting it in your user space (at User:Marctheram/DRAFT for instasnce). Once you've got some references in that comply with WP:RS, have a talk with User:MelanieN or User:Tokyogirl79 who are both good rescuers and helpers. I'm going to be a bit erratic in my appearances here for the next 10 days. Peridon (talk) 17:53, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Amrita Chaudhry

Sir, I see you have deleted the article about an Indian Journalist created by me. She was a very important figure in Punjab, India. You can just google her and google will show you different newspapers. She was very popular for her bold reporting. Please click here for an unlimited list of articles written by her. On her death even the chief minister of Punjab expressed his grief, click here. Please do reply and let me know about that. Here is a list of a few articles written about her, 1, 2, 3, 4. --Satdeep gill (talkcontribs 02:47, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

You are free to try again, but you should show the notability. As it stood, the article said she was a journalist who was killed in an accident. What you should show is that she was really notable before the accident. This needs to be with sources that aren't the newspapers she worked for, and which give information about her and things she did. Obituaries are not a good source for notability unless there is other reliable independent information also available. It's notability for her career during her career that's important. #Leaving out the accident, would she pass WP:BIO with reliable independent sources WP:RS if the accident had not happened, or if she had survived? Peridon (talk) 09:49, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank You, I will create the page again after gathering more information and from reliable sources. --Satdeep gill (talkcontribs 02:15, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Deleted Celine Farach page

Searched Celine Farach on Google, her Wikipedia page appeared, after a couple of hours of viewing it for the first time you deleted it. Please advise the reason. The post, which was not written or submitted by me, had absolutely no promotional or brand advertisement. The deleted page states: 21:33, 7 August 2013 Peridon (talk | contribs) deleted page Celine Farach (G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion: A7: Article about a real person, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject). 76.108.50.12 (talk) 00:34, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

You say "no promotional or brand advertisement". Doesn't have to be brand promotion, or even be selling something. How about "Her passion for music, entertainment, fashion, photography and her amazing ability to connect and communicate with her beauty and personality..."? I can't see any evidence of passing WP:BIO, for the other reason for deletion. Peridon (talk) 16:51, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

On tour

Peridon may be missing for up to a week, depending on local circumstances. (An alter ego of his may be appearing somewhere near you, if you are in the UK. No, that wasn't him serving in McDonalds...) In his absence, you may or may not receive a reply from him to queries, compliments or rants. Shouting won't help, as he won't hear you over the drums. Sensible answers may be expected from the talk page stalkers if the man himself appears to be ignoring you. Peridon (talk) 21:56, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Hey

You deleted an evidence page I created on a talk sub-page in my user space that I was using to prepare a case for arbitration. Why did you do that? Ignocrates (talk) 22:01, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

Nevermind. I'm going to prepare this arbitration case off-wiki where you can't delete it. Ignocrates (talk) 00:33, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Note: The page I deleted was in article space not a sub-page in user space. Peridon (talk) 11:32, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Peridon. I've got no issue with the A7-ation, but if you get a message about its deletion, I'd be happy to help re-create it. A small but quite possibly notable organization with a long history. Don Bolles was a leading member, apparently. Pete --Shirt58 (talk) 11:24, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

STOP

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Shoot-to-kill policy in Northern Ireland. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you.

The page is nonsense. I have started a section in the talk page for it so if you object to the speedy deletion you may comment there. If you are an admin you should know that. SonofSetanta (talk) 13:44, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

The content of the article may be rubbish. It may be correct. I am not giving an opinion on that. My point is that it does NOT qualify for CSD 'nonsense'. Peridon (talk) 13:47, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Surely you should have raised that as a discussion point then instead of deleting the template. Those were the instructions on the template. Why did you deviate from them? SonofSetanta (talk) 14:21, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
That template you have linked to above is the AfD template, which must not be removed. The CSD tags can be removed by anyone except the author of the article, and a reason should usually be given. You applied an inappropriate CSD tag and I correctly removed it - Shirt58 removed it again after you replaced it. I don't need to do anything on the talk page when removing an inappropriate CSD tag. By the way, PROD tags may be removed by anyone, and that very often leads to AfD. This is what the CSD tag says about removal: "If this article does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, or you intend to fix it, please remove this notice, but do not remove this notice from pages that you have created yourself. If you created this page, and you disagree with the given reason for deletion, you can click the button below and leave a message, explaining why you believe this article should not be deleted. You can also visit the talk page to check if you have received a response to your message.". Peridon (talk) 15:54, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

ANI

I feel I'm in big trouble because of my mistakes and I can't seem to sort it out. Several people have the knife out for me too. I hate that board. SonofSetanta (talk) 16:55, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

No-one's talking about indefinitely blocking or banning you. Sandstein's talking about an indef topic ban, but HighKing and I are sticking up for you (you might be surprised there...). It's Arbitration Enforcement, not ANI, by the way. You're not listed at ANI or AN. Keep cool, not everyone's out to get you. Indef isn't the same as infinite anyway. MEDICAL ID JEWELRY

Hello, you deleted my page I created. We were trying to give a history of medical id jewelry and list the most common allergies and medical conditions as per our data base for the last 6 years. We get many many inquiries about when someone should get a medical id bracelet or piece medical id jewelry. They usually ask what conditions would warrant getting medical id jewelry etc. If we have some promotion item on the page in error please remove it and allow this page to be seen again. We would like to put links to each disease to the respective page on Wikipedia and links to each allergy page on Wikipedia. I am not a computer savvy person. The information provided is from data supplied by mymagicfairy's own data base from 6 years of multiple medical id bracelet and medical id necklace or medical id jewelry orders. This information is extremely helpful so I would hate for it not to appear just because I may have unintentionally mentioned our website or some promotional item. Thanks in advance and have a AWESOME day! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Medical id jewelry (talkcontribs) 20:29, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

We get a lot of attempted advertising, some blatant ('Buy two, get one free!') and some concealed. We call the latter 'art-spam'. This is where an apparent article contains references to and links to only one place, and that place is in the business of marketing the stuff. This looked to me like a clear case of art-spam, but even if not, you cannot create an article using information from your own database. That comes under WP:OR original research. Please see WP:RS about reliable independent sources. I'm afraid that I am unconvinced that the mentions of your site were 'unintentional', but will put them down to you misunderstanding Wikipedia (as so many do...). Ta very much. Admin work gets troubling when you take it too seriously and forget that nothing done here cannot be undone or that you're not the only one dealing with things. OpTier

Hello, I was the one making edits to the OpTier page earlier that you pulled down. Please note we followed the exact same format as the New Relic page that has not been pulled down. If we don't hear back from you within the 24 hours, we'll elevate this matter to the appropriate Wikipedia staff. The bottom line is that we pulled all the advert material with our entry and emulated -- nearly identical -- one of our competitor pages (New Relic). So please either pull down their page as well or restore our page ASAP. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mousaackall (talkcontribs) 19:24, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

First of all, thanks for posting in the right place. It does help, though, to put a heading in two pairs of = signs, and sign off (on talk pages and boards) with four ~ things. OK. Your article was not deleted for being promotional. That was the previous OpTier article a few years ago. This one was deleted for not showing significance. Your two references are to your own site, which cannot be used to show notability, and as for the other links, Gartner is not openly accessible and the others at best seem to give a brief mention. New Relic has a long list of references, which I intend to investigate when I have time as one at least is not a reliable independent source. Besides which, please read WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. The existence of any article is not an excuse for the existence of another article. You are welcome to contact any other Wikipedia administrator (there's a list somewhere), but I would advise you to go to the policies for information rather than using another article as an example. The relevant policies are WP:CORP for corporate notability, and WP:RS about reliable independent sources. I suggest that WP:COI (conflict of interest) might be worth reading too, as I consider it unlikely that you are totally independent of OpTier. By the Way, there is very little in the way of 'staff' at Wikiprdia. About ten or so, I think, who are involved with matters other than content in their professional roles. Some of them are administrators as well. I'm signing off now, and wouldn't still be here but for planning a complicated journey for tomorrow. A talk page stalker might add some help here, otherwise I'm not likely to be around for 24 hours. Peridon (talk) 20:01, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)Mous, I suggest you read WP:SOLUTION and WP:PROMOTION to see why your language did not impress; as well as the articles WP:CORP and WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS already recommended to you. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:06, 22 August 2013 (UTC) (and yes, I am another administrator)

[User:mousaackall] - Peridon and Orangemike, thanks for the feedback. There are several, third-party (reliable) sources that talk about OpTier that meet the criteria you all have presented. I am collecting them now and will be ready to post them to our page shortly. We also just received 8 million funding and generated significant coverage because of that. The bottom line is that we all know OpTier is "significant" in the eyes of Wikipedia. Can you please advise on how I can access the OpTier page again so I can make the necessary adjustments. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mousaackall (talkcontribs) 13:37, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Deletion of page: Weskus

Hi Sir

I am a novice / beginner on Wikipedia. What you did wrong was posting something that was highly promotional. Unusually, I failed to pick up on your username which translates to "West Coast Your Good Thing" and indicates a conflict of interest WP:COI (OrangeMike did spot it, though). Please read WP:SPAM and WP:RS about reliable independent sources if you decide to appeal for a change of name. Peridon (talk) 10:11, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Hey Peridon, the creator of Part Two of the Constitution of India brought the article up on my talk page, and I noticed you deleted it as copyright infringement. Please note that laws, judicial opinions, and reports in India are in the public domain, so CSD g12 does not apply. However, a case could certainly be made for the article being unencyclopedic/a better candidate for Wikisource, so I have suggested such to the contributor. Just wanted to give you a heads up. I can't see a reason for it to be deleted. That's only done for user talk pages if they're spamming there, or in the case of socking. This one's just blocked for advertising and username, so the page should stay showing the block notice. I didn't block the account, but Drmies did today. Peridon (talk) 20:26, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your extra diligence

I missed the CC licencing on the satellite article. Fiddle Faddle 12:05, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Always worth scrolling to the bottom of a page. Usually there's a little c, and this is the first CC-BY-SA I've come across in a long while. Sometimes, you have to dig for things. I've recently triggered an investigation by copyright experts into Indian Government copyrights, information on which appears to be dependent on which site you're on, and which bit of the site you're on, and which translation someone used and so on. Keep 'em out of mischief for a bit. I'm keeping out... Nice to find a site that's clear, even though the text is somewhat promo. Peridon (talk) 12:11, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
If there is CC licensing, check which. CC-BY-NC-SA isn't usable here as it doesn't allow commercial use. (There are people who sell - or try to sell - books of Wikipedia pages to other people...) And there are some others. Peridon (talk) 12:15, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
What interests me here is that I am sure other news vehicles have picked up the same press release, but they will not be CC licenced. How fortuitous that they chose one which is! Amusingly I suspect the original release has been release (as is usual) for press end journalistic purposes, and that the CC licence is probably not valid (0.9 probability), but we take 'em as we find 'em. Damn. I usually scroll to the foot, too! Fiddle Faddle 12:17, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
It is 3.0 Unported, but that looks like a very official site anyway so it's probably quite legit. Peridon (talk) 12:23, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
Looking further, I feel it's their press release not something they've picked up. They appear to be the telecom regulatory authority for Qatar. Peridon (talk) 12:27, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

AfD NAC

Could you pleas help me out. I'm trying to determine if this was a good NAC on the users part, and if not how to correct it.[1] He misstates Tokyogirl79's view point, seems to have a clear COI of interest with his extensive involvement with WikiProject:India (in fact he makes sure to post a link to their view points in every post about India), in fact appears to use the closing statement as a vote, and finally makes a comment that borders on violating Good Faith when he says "the film is actually going to release on 13 September and the date has not been included to mislead the AFD." In fact I posted that the film would be released the next month in the AfD. The keeps all both of the same nature, it's only a few weeks away why get rid of it? I only posted in this morning and not even 24 hours later it's closed NAC. I'm not saying I might not be over ruled by consensus but IMO this looks very biased. I didn't even get a chance to reply since it was closed so quickly, that the coverage seems more related to the director then the movie itself. Caffeyw (talk) 03:03, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

I'm asking for comments here about it - one has arrived before I finished notifying people... I think it was a bit soon, but am assuming good faith (and have no views on the film myself)/Peridon (talk) 10:43, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
  • If Schmidt is for it, I would recommend re-opening it since I do think that it was a little too early for it to close and it'd be good to give it at least another day or two just to get another few opinions. I think that it's likely to end up as a keep in the end, but I have to admit that I myself was a little uncomfortable with the AfD receiving a snow close after only 3 votes and 24 hours, and by a non-admin to boot. It's not that I don't think it's highly likely that it'd end any other way, but I'd prefer it to get another day or two just so to avoid any further fears of bias or other concerns. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:37, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
  • Please re-open per my response to Peridon on my talkpage (see Tb below).
  • And to User:Caffeyw, it is well understood and expected that editors contribute to those fields in which they feel their knowledge and experience will serve the project. I act in film and television and am a coordinator of project film. As long as policy and guideline are followed, THAT does not constitute bias. The project is rarely served when an editor tries to contribute to a field in which he has absolutely no knowledge. Tito was unintentionally premature and will happily expect/allow the thing to be re-opened. Schmidt, Michael Q. 11:05, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
Michael has talked to the closer and is going to re-open the discussion. Thanks, folks.Peridon (talk) 11:01, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
I'll teach myself how . Schmidt, Michael Q. 11:06, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
Then you can tell me how... 8-) Peridon (talk) 11:09, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
Seemed so easy that it might well be wrong. I went to the page history andit to the last version before the close, THEN I re-added the discussion to the various delsorts which had been automatically removed by the close and re-added it to them. I then dropped a note at the discussion of what I did and why. I think its okay now. Restored, acknowledged, and in the delsorts. Schmidt, Michael Q. 11:31, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
It's those automatically done things that worry me. They're great when going forward, but tricky in reverse. Peridon (talk) 11:36, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
Understood. I had to re-set the AFD header on the article itself and (as it has been improved and moved since the "close") re-set the AFD pointer as well as remove the "oldafdful" message from its talk page. AND then notify involved editors. Whew. If I messed up, someone will let me know. Schmidt, Michael Q. 12:01, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
  • Hey, that automatic thingy did not work here. I closed the AFD and found right at that time someone has moved it to new title. The script failed to removed AFD template and add oldafd tag at talk page. I had to do these manually. Script and tools may be faster, but, humans ae better.. always.
I'll appreciate if someone adds selected portions of these discussions in an archived box at the AFD in an archived box. Discussions are getting fragmented. I don't mind quoting my email reply.
They could contact me directly with theri concerns. Anyay... --TitoDutta 14:21, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Deleted article

you need to know, I made a biographical article is just for me, I am not a celebrity, wikipedia is a free site providers article, but why now like this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SalasAjiO (talkcontribs) 12:32, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, no. You have not understood what Wikipedia is. It is an encyclopaedia, not a "free site provider". Anyone is allowed to edit, but we have rules about what is posted. You are not supposed to post about yourself WP:AUTOBIO, and if you post about someone else, they must be notable WP:BIO. Notable means that they are well known (and not just well known to their friends) and have been written about by other people in magazines, books or newspapers. We don't count Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, blogs or your own site as being the sort of thing we want to see. WP:RS tells you more about this. Wikipedia is not like Facebook, where anyone can have a page. We are not a free web host, or social media. You can have a page on Facebook or MySpace (or many more places like them). You are not yet ready for an article here. When you are famous, someone will write an article about you. I wish you good luck, and hope you get an article some day.
