RCC vs. CC[edit]

I beg to disagree. For one thing, a redirect is not a major performance issue and wikipedia says not to make a mountain out of a molehill as far as it is concerned. Next, the term RCC is more or less an Anglo-centric carryover from Encyclopedia Britannica. I am of the camp that respects the objections of the agents of the Catholic Church, i.e. its priests, that is to say, that it identifies itself as merely the Catholic Church. I also subscribe to the argument of other WP editors that the naming convention of WP be fairly applied to the CC and hence name it as such. Other editors of WP would object of course and can definitely find sources of instances of ther term RCC being used but it is not the same as that being taught by its hierarchy. If you talk to Eastern Catholics, they would definitely object since they refer to themselves as Catholics, definitely, but not Roman Catholics (e.g. Maronite Catholics, Chaldean Catholics). A few editors in WP seem to monopolize an article and such is the behavior of most articles in WP. The term RCC is unfortunately an Anglican invention with an originally derogatory connotation (anti-papist) during the 18th cent. onwards and has unfortunately been applied by the British to the CC and hence infected wholescale the English language - but that's history for you. In sum, it is unfortunate that the terminology being used is incorrect and misleading although gaining acceptance. This is one of the weaknesses of WP since articles are made as a product more of consensus than objectivity. This is true whenever an article is an article of the humanities. Since no subject under the humanities can ever be objectively presented, everybody would just have to accept, including you, the realization that it will always be subject to change unlike a subject under science.

The humanities will always be subject to opinion and change, science less so. People will always have different opinions about the Mona Lisa but 1+1 will always equal 2. I hope you can appreciate my point of view. Dr mindbender 05:11, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

  • You make some good points, but I fear that the majority of editors will not see it the way you do. Philip Stevens 07:50, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

A request for assistance[edit]

Would you support the concept of moving the Earhart "myths" to a separate page or article? The reason for my suggesting this is that the main article should be an accurate and scholarly work while the speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding the disappearance of Amelia Earhart are interesting, they belong in a unique section. Most researchers, as you know, discount the many theories and speculation that has arisen in the years following her last flight. Go onto the Earhart discussion page and register your vote/comments...and a Happy New Year to you as well. Bzuk 02:50 3 January 2007 (UTC).

Template:Infobox Officeholder[edit]

Gerald Ford is no longer linked to the main page, so would it be possible for you to unprotect Template:Infobox Officeholder as there are edits that are waiting to be made. Thank you. Philip Stevens 11:23, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I changed the template from mprotected2 to hprotected, since the template is used in nearly two thousand places. You can always request that a change be made to the template by adding editprotected, with the requested edit, to the talk page. -- tariqabjotu 12:57, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
  • I feel semi-protection would be better as there is no history of vandalism on the page. Philip Stevens 14:08, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I've been reviewing your contributions on Template_talk:Infobox_Officeholder, particularly your sandbox template. Well done all around. I've noticed one problem with your template, though, in George Bush and Bill Clinton's info boxes. It appears the "order2" field is not parsing correctly for their service as governor. The Bush infobox lists Ann Richards and Rick Perry has predecessor and successors, but leaves out all other information regarding his term as Texas Governor. The same for Bill Clinton, His service as the 50th Govenror parses correctly (that uses the "order3" firled), but not his service as the 52nd (using "order2").

I cut and pasted those infoboxes on my own sandbox, and changed all "order2" and related fields to the third and fourth iterations where approrpriate so you could see how the should appear. I see that it all generates properly on Bush and Clinton's main pages, so I don't know if it is a quirk on your sandbox only or something broader needing to be corrected.Dcmacnut 17:51, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Image:Betty Boothroyd.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Betty Boothroyd.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add Replaceable fair use disputed, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Quentin X 13:06, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Numbers in sort keys[edit]

I notice you've changed 50 Cent a couple of times to sort as "Fifty Cent". Why is this? There doesn't seem to be any technical reason to avoid numerals in sort keys, and I haven't seen anything in the guidelines that suggests it. --Stemonitis 13:49, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

No technical reason, but all other persons with a number in their name (40 Glocc for example) are categorised in this way. Philip Stevens 13:53, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
I would be wary of making any unnecessary conversions between the text which is seen and that by which an article is sorted, so I think I would tend not to add sort keys to 50 Cent, 40 Glogg and any others. I can foresee that problems might arise if we start getting numbers above 99 which need to be sorted numerically (i.e. if one wanted "107 Person" to sort after "50 Cent"), but I don't think that applies yet. For that matter, numbers below 10 would create a similar problem. I need to think about this some more. --Stemonitis 14:34, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Year Links[edit]

I'm afraid i'll have to disagree with you. Just because some years don't have content don't mean they all don't, and eventually, all of them will anyway. I'm not sure how to go forward with this, but I guess for now putting the disputed tag on the 22nd Century and putting a note on the talk page to see what consensus thinks is best. Current British MPs template[edit]

Your template Current British MPs, which had been deleted, was still being transclued in MPs elected in the United Kingdom general election, 2005. I have just removed it from there, for a number of reasons:

  • if the template should exist, then it should be in mainspace, not userspace. It was deleted from mainspace, so it should not be used there
  • A template in userspace is less likely to be properly maintained, because some editors will quite reasonably refrain from editing a user's own pages

I think it would be vey useful to have a list of current MPs by party, and if you felt like converting your template into such a list I'm sure that it would be a very welcome addition to mainspace. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs)

I wasn't aware that my template was still in use, sorry about that. I've created the page you suggested. Do you have any suggestions on how to improve it? --Philip Stevens 19:52, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Hey, that was quick! Well done :)
I have a few suggestions, for what they are worth:
  • sort the list by the MPs surnames, rather than by constituency: I think that to some exetent the constituency-sorted list duplicates the existing MPs elected in the United Kingdom general election, 2005. But no need to delete the one you've just created: why not create an MP-sorted list as well?
  • add an extra column for something about electoral history, maybe just which MPs were elected in by-elections, or if you were feeing very energetic you could go back further and note when they were first elected
  • Expand the opening section to explain what "current MPs" means (i.e. elected at 2005 GE or in by-elections)
  • don't forget to add you new page(s) to MPs elected in the United Kingdom general election,_2005#See_also
Anyway, those are just my suggestions, and you should do what you think best and what you have energy for. Hope this helps! --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:31, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
I've just vandalised your userpage as revenge for an incident relating to Gordon Brown, but I have noticed that you've been having trouble with a template of yours. For this you have my sympathy. May I ask why it was deleted, and who by? It wasn't Centrx was it?

Image tagging for Image:Mili_Avital_1.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mili_Avital_1.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Stargate Sha'uri.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Stargate Sha'uri.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Unspecified source for Image:Neelix.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Neelix.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image copyright problem with Image:Bariel Antos.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Bariel Antos.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. The criteria you list "This page is too far in the future to have a page of its own. Only anniversaries on at the moment." is not a criteria for speedy deletion. A closer look at the history of these pages tells me that they were up for WP:AFD here Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2123 and the result was keep, with no consensus for the bundled years. Some took the position that the individual years ought to be redirected to their respective centuries. Most of them were. Today User:Voortle decided to recreate the articles in place of the redirects. My suggestion is to simply revert him instead of trying to speedy them all. They don't fit the criteria, so far as I can see, especially as they apparently survived an Afd already. Cheers. Dina 18:09, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
  • No, the result was to keep 2525, none of the others were kept. --Philip Stevens 18:11, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

2007 Kent Earthquake[edit]

Hi. Just wondering whether the 2007 Kent Earthquake should be redirected to another page. The co-ordinates listed on the US Geological Survey page for the earthquake indicate that the epicentre of the earthquake was approximately 1 mile off the Kent Coast near the village of Dymchurch. It would be more accurate if the article were to be redirected to a page possibly "2007 Dymchurch earthquake", "2007 Hythe earthquake" or "2007 Folkestone earthquake". This would also bring the article into line with similar pages such as the 1884 Colchester earthquake and the 2002 Dudley earthquake. Thanks. --Spagus 09:18, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Infobox Officeholder[edit]

Template:Infobox Officeholder(edit talk links history) re: Your suggested edits to the width of Template:Infobox Officeholder have been reverted. There was already a field named 'width' to deal with image size. This meant that any page that used the width field looked either ridiculously big or far too small. Hope you understand. --Philip Stevens 16:34, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the notice. Turns out was semi-unecessary, but keeping an optional width parameter, if switching back to em's is still a good idea. The problem I was addressing have NOTHING to do with the pic inside the infobox, but with scaling to pics on pages like those seen here. See also whatlinkshere for a fixer template: Template:FixHTML(edit talk links history). [This was the sort of thing I was fighting -- the overly busy right margin problems]
  • But thanks for the heads up. Apparently pics will also scale in em units (I just tried that successfully in Ronald Reagan--I've had the "belief" for several years now that pics would not, I believe based on an old experience, so perhaps there was a bug fix along the way!), which is NOT covered in Help literature on Meta. I'll fix that too.
  • Looking over the edit history by David Kernow, we can both be satisfied as it's likely whatever your problem was happened from the change from 23em to 315px as default. The parameter shouldn't have been a problem. Cheers!
David, Please split the difference!
{23em}; should cover all bases. If the issue is 'width' used elsewhere, rename to something suitable like 'boxwidth'. Thanks // FrankB 16:56, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
  • [copied from Fabartus's talkpage:] Okay, hope this works for all!  Yours, David (talk) 19:10, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

  • See failure analysis here -- fix will happen soon. Sorry for the hassle. // FrankB 03:38, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Tony Blair[edit]

Wikipedia is a source of information and as so is susposed to inform people. True, then why did you delete informative edits to Tony Blair, the edits i added definately improved the article, by adding his retirement details. I can't see any sense in removing the edits, so why did you do it? (Jones234Jones 10:38, 12 June 2007 (UTC))

  • He hasn't left office yet and if you put his successor and leaving date into the infobox the "Incumbent" banner will be removed. Also, it's not certain 27 June will be the date he leaves office, he could get run over by a bus tomorrow, for that matter so could Gordon Brown, in which case he wouldn't be Blair's successor. Though it's unlikely to be another date or successor it's not a fact, not yet. This policy is not unique to the Tony Blair page, try changing George W. Bush's infobox by putting 20 January 2009 as the date he leaves office; it will be reverted almost instantly. --Philip Stevens 11:05, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Well you can say what you like, but the fact is that wikipedia is far less informative without the retirement details. And the fact that you say he could be run over by a bus justs confirms how stupid the 'policy' is. (Jones234Jones 07:00, 13 June 2007 (UTC))
    • It shouldn't say "2 May 1997 - 27 June 2007" until the latter date comes as otherwise it looks as if he has left office when he hasn't. This surely isn't a big deal, so one of your edits was reverted, that happens to everybody, don't take it personally. If you think I'm wrong reinstate your edit. I won't revert it, let's see if anyone else does. --Philip Stevens 07:55, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Even if what you say is true, there was no need to delete "is the outgoing but current Prime Minister of the United Kingdom" Having the word "outgoing" does not break any laws does it? even if he does get hit by a bus he is still and currently the outgoing prime minister. At the very least the above sentence should be put back to the way i had it, and you should not have removed the outgoing prime minister comment, because quite clearly thats what he is! (Jones234Jones 06:26, 15 June 2007 (UTC))
  • I undid your edit because of the changes to the infobox, not the opening paragraph. Feel free to put back the word "outgoing". --Philip Stevens 06:56, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
  • thank you i will be adding outgoing, and may i suggest in future that you revert edits properly and make sure that no valuable information was in the edit you reverted for stupid reasons in the first place. (Jones234Jones 10:24, 15 June 2007 (UTC))

Image:Harriet Harman.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Harriet Harman.JPG.

Thank you. Sandy Donald 14:24, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Tony_Blair_at_PMQs.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tony_Blair_at_PMQs.jpg.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:25, 26 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 14:25, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Tony Blair[edit]

I have just had a look at the Tony Blair article and finally the edits that you reverted have been put into the article. And because of your unco-operativeness Wikipedia suffered as there was a substancial delay in the time it took for the information to finally be used. And also, Tony didn't get hit by a bus, did he?

Hopefully in future you will use more common sense.

Anyway in the end the correct decision was made, and information was added.

(Jones234Jones 03:20, 30 June 2007 (UTC))

  • What the hell are you talking about?! Of course the information saying when he left office has been put in now, he's left office now, and I'm the one who put the info in. It is against Wikipedia policy to put that events have happened before they have, that's why your edits were wrong and reverted.
No he wasn't knocked down by a bus, but he could have been, that was the point. We can't see the future so we don't say things have happened before they have. If you have a look at your edit, there are big warnings that saying "keep this field empty until he leaves office" this means you can fill in these fields once he has left office. That's why the fields have been filled in now, not because someone suddenly realised that you were right and I was wrong. If you think Wikipedia should state events that haven't happened yet, add term_end=20 January 2009 to George W. Bush's infobox and see how quickly this is removed.
I noticed that you've put on your User page that you have edited Wikipedia over one million times. According to this, to date you've edited Wikipedia 45 times. I should point out that on my user page it says I have edited Wikipedia over 11,000 times and this will be my 11,654th edit. So from an experienced Wikipedian to a less experienced one, you take things far too personally, if someone reverts your edit you should let it go, and in future you shouldn't ignore warnings on pages (they are there for a reason). Another piece of friendly advice, don't put the date someone has left office into Infobox Officeholder before they've actually left office, you see I wrote the code for the current version of Infobox Officeholder, so believe me when I say, I know how it works, you do not. --Philip Stevens 07:03, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Firstly, it is my user page and i can put anything i want on it. If i want to put 1,000,000 edits on it, then i am allowed to. And just because you have more edits on wikipedia does not mean that you are more experienced. FYI, I am actaully chairman of an entire online encyclopedia similar to wikipedia, therefore i would say that in terms of edits and writing articles, i do have more experience than you.

Secondly, let me make this very clear, it does not matter what wikipedia policy says, the fact still remains that (prior to retirement) without retirement details in Tony Blair's article wikipedia is much less informative. Regardless of what 'policy' says the point remains!

Anyway, i do hope that you can see my point and i hope that one day you will see why you were incorrect in this situation. But for now i have decided to end this issue, no real harm was done, it's just that Tony Blair's wikipedia page was less informative because you reverted my edits. If you can't see that then there is something wrong.

Anyway, have a nice life!

(Jones234Jones 06:47, 1 July 2007 (UTC))

  • Oh, and it is sad that you know exactly how many edits you have made. You need more of a life!

(Jones234Jones 06:48, 1 July 2007 (UTC))

Allan Johnston[edit]

I was wondering why you altered the hatnote on this article from a distinguish one (designed for similarly spelled phrases, which is the situation that applies here) to a for one (designed for other uses of exactly the same word or phrase). Apart from anything else using the wrong template confuses users who are used to the established conventions as well as putting things in wrong categories and confusing bots. —Joe Llywelyn Griffith Blakesley talk contrib 03:20, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

  • I don't think it makes that much of a difference. If you prefered the pervious template, feel free to change it back. --Philip Stevens 06:21, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Maxwell Forrest.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Maxwell Forrest.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Fair use rationale for Image:Vic Fontaine.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Vic Fontaine.jpg.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Unspecified source for Image:Joseph Sisko.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Joseph Sisko.jpg.

Dates for early elections[edit]

Where are you finding the dates for these really early elections (pre 1848) at? I can't seem to find a good source, and if I create any more of the infoboxes, I want to make sure I get the right one in there. Thanks. (Cardsplayer4life 10:14, 9 August 2007 (UTC))

  • I worked out the dates by using the information on the page Election Day (United States) where it says: "By federal law since 1792, Congress permitted the states to conduct their presidential elections (or otherwise to choose their Electors) anytime in a 34 day period before the first Wednesday of December".

On another issue, I've noticed that you've increased the size of the election map on a number of the pages. On my browser this make the infobox overly big, is this a problem with you? --Philip Stevens 10:25, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, not in my browser. I increased it only by about 50px I believe, and did some testing to make sure it wouldn't increase the size of the infobox on the side there beforehand. With a map at 350 or 400, the box stays the same, but if it is increased any further, then it pushes the infobox out. (at least on my screen) I think that the map is one of the most important parts of the articles, and since it was bordering on too small to see, I thought I'd bump it up slightly. It might have something to do with your text size settings, or something like that? (Cardsplayer4life 11:54, 9 August 2007 (UTC))
  • I've reduced the size by 5px, which fixed the problem without making the map noticeably smaller. --Philip Stevens 12:02, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Aah yes. I was about to make such an edit and saw you made one. The problem doesn't appear on my screen, but I can see how it might mess up some browsers. I can tell the effect if I toggle between a bigger and smaller map size and the bigger one bumps out the box. (which it was doing on the one you cited) I'll be sure to check for that in future edits. Thanks for the heads up. (Cardsplayer4life 12:06, 9 August 2007 (UTC))
By the way, I don't know if you have looked at it yet, but that United States presidential election, 1824 is a mess with all the different candidates (and VP candidates) and map colors. Plus the one with the most electoral votes didn't actually win the election. I was about to tackle it earlier when I was doing the others and got intimidated, haha. Can a change be made to the code that will allow for a proper title for a diplomatic Minister? Jacob B. Blair actually served as U.S. Minister (rather than Ambassador) to Costa Rica. Preferably the link could be United States Minister to Costa Rica.

Unspecified source for Image:Inara_Serra1.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important blue.svg

Thanks for uploading Image:Inara_Serra1.jpg.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:34, 29 September 2007 (UTC). United States presidential elections[edit]

Hello. I noticed a wave of changes to the format of the U.S. presidential elections. After some searching, I saw that you were the person who added this. While I admire your determination (as you clearly took the time to create this and place it on every election page), I also think the prominence and wording of this in the infobox distracts from the important context of the written article. I've invited a few people to participate in a discussion at 2004 talk page. As the changes in question have occurred to all the election pages it's hard to centralize the discussion, so the most recent election page seems like the best place to start. I look forward to your input, and am addressing this to you also b/c I don't want your work to be in vein either. I hope that we can have a discussion and reach a consensus. Here's my comment, thanks! SpiderMMB 04:51, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Winner/Runner-up[edit]

I have to voice my concern that this format is hurting the article. I will post this on a few notable election pages and hope that it's noticed. I have to admire the determination of whoever came up with this idea (it's apparently on every page) but ultimately, I think it should go. I think that having "winner/runner-up" displayed so prominently in the infobox overshadows the importance of the election. Some of these elections were not mere contests, but were epic events in American history where a variety of important viewpoints were symbolically represented and voted upon. Just in the last 50 years, the notable political climates of 1968 and 2004 came to a boiling point around election time. We should not be placing so much emphasis on the "winner" and the "runner-up" -- this is not a spelling bee. If we condense this into who "won" we are doing a disservice to the issues that drove these elections. SpiderMMB 23:13, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

No fair use rational on Image:Moya.jpg[edit]

Information icon.svg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Moya.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Moya.jpg is an unfree image with no fair use rationale uploaded after May 4, 2006 which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days (CSD I6).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Moya.jpg, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Secondary schools infoboxen[edit]

The infoboxes relating to secondary schools are a true mess. There are about a dozen separate templates, with an old merge proposal to combine all of the templates into Template:Infobox Education in the United States, which has to be the worst name for a template ever. There's discussion about the merge here, though no one's done anything in over six weeks. I don't know if you're busy right now, but you did a fantastic job combining all of the templates into Template:Infobox Officeholder, so I thought you might be able to use some of the same magic here. Even better, none of the templates (to my knowledge) are protected, so changes can occur immediately. Consensus isn't needed if you're up to the task; action is needed. Personally, I think Template:Infobox Secondary school is the best option to merge into. Some of the merge candidates are:

  1. Template:Infobox UK school
  2. Template:Infobox Education in Canada
  3. Template:Infobox Education in the United States
  4. Template:Infobox HighSchool
  5. Template:Infobox HighSchool (American)
  6. Template:Infobox VirginiaHighSchool
  7. Template:Infobox K-12 School
  8. Template:Infobox US school
  9. Template:Infobox middle school

There are undoubtedly more. I don't see a reason to have separate UK templates (especially if the only difference will be adding a 'u' to certain words), but any decisions about the merge are entirely up to you. Anything you could do would be very much appreciated. Cheers. --MZMcBride 23:16, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

    • I'll work on it, but I think it will take some time. --Philip Stevens 06:24, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Canadian prime minister infoboxes[edit]

Hi-

I noted that a bit over a week ago you added the governors general to the infoboxes for the Canadian prime ministers. That act was opposed by one vehement editor, and a discussion on the matter was opened at Talk:Stephen Harper about the matter. Only three editors participated in the debate; two in favour of including the head of state, one not. The discussion was then silent for over a week, yet the opposing editor still insists the head of state not be mentioned. As you had some part in the beginnings of this dispute, I wondered if you might like to express your opinion on the matter. I would like to see this resolved ASAP. Cheers. --G2bambino 00:45, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Infobox School[edit]

Thanks for taking the time to merge the various school templates, but frankly your recent change to Infobox School resulted in a mess. I've listed some issues at Template talk:Infobox School#Philip Stevens' edit, and I'm browsing around various school articles to see if any other issues crop up. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 04:23, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

For some reason, the |enrollment and |enrollment_as_of tags are not working. I am working on converting many of the articles using the Education in the United States template, and this is something that was used in that template that does not work in the new one. Would you look into this? --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 01:18, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Nevermind, I found that I was incorrectly using the syntax within the template. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 01:51, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Could I ask you please to check what is happening in this article's Infobox, where I have put info into both "school type" and "funding type" fields. There were some display issues which have been addressed, but there is still a minor problem with commas, which MZMcBride suggested I contacted you about. Could you please take a look? Thanks for your help. Ohconfucius 03:40, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Nice US presidential election infoboxes from a few months ago![edit]

Thank you. I originally created it for UK elections but no one on those pages liked it! I'm so pleased it's being used on pages of arguably more importance. --Philip Stevens (talk) 07:30, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Ruth Kelly[edit]

Hi Philip. Just wondered if you had a good reason for removing Ruth Kelly's religion from the infobox? And have you got a reference for her nationality as British? MurphiaMan (talk) 13:29, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

  • I didn't remove her religion from the infobox. As for her nationality, she was born in the United Kingdom and is a member of the British government, if you feel that's not reference enough feel free to remove it. --Philip Stevens (talk) 13:54, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
My apologies about the religion. You are correct. I missed it. I know Patricia Hewitt was Australian and a minister, so I don't think that ministerial office necessarily confers nationality. And of course it is well known that place of birth doesn't define nationality. I think it would be very interesting to confirm her nationality somehow, but it has been discussed on the talk page previously without any defined conclusion. I think the place of birth is known to be factual, but we have yet to verify her nationality, so I'll remove that until we do. MurphiaMan (talk) 16:43, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

The West Wing - spoken version[edit]

I saw your request on the talk page, and I've begun recording the most recent version of the article, as edited by Hnsampat. Looking at the page history, it looks like any major issues have been sorted out and the article is pretty stable. This will be my first recording for the Spoken Wikipedia project, so of course I'm open to any suggestions or constructive criticism. Jjacobsmeyer (talk) 22:27, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Thank goodness! That request's been there for ages. I haven't made a spoken article either, so the only advice I can think of is to listen to other spoken articles and see what works and what doesn't; what jars, what flows well, what's easy to listen to, etc. --Philip Stevens (talk) 07:15, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
