Hi Wgolf! Sorry for the late response. I am still very new to this, hence the name. Thank you for the greetings and the cookies! Planetarysprotege (talk) 06:50, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Introducing myself[edit]

I work with the Wiki Education Foundation, and help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment. AmmarBanafea: That looks *virtually* really good! Although, can you take out the pickles please? I really don't like pickles. Thanks! Planetarysprotege (talk) 22:26, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know[edit]

Hi Protege,

I am nominating Ovda Regio for the WP:Did you know section on Wikipedia. I am doing this at Template:Did you know nominations/Ovda Regio. This may result in queries for better referencing. If you have any ideas for a hooky one line sentence to promote Ovda Regio let me know and we can put this in. Last year most of the pages in your course got over 1000 people looking at their pages. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:30, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Graeme Bartlett,

Thank you for the nomination. I have several ideas for a one line sentence promotion, how about something like:

  • Did you know that Ovda Regio is Venus' largest crustal plateaus? or
  • Did you know that Venus' largest crustal plateau, Ovda Regio, hold clues in solving the planet's geodynamic puzzle? or
  • Did you know that Ovda Regio, Venus’ largest crustal plateau, covers a Venusian area of about 15,000,000 km2? or

feel free to revise this. I believe that saying something along the line of "Venus' largest crustal plateau" might attract people's attention. Planetarysprotege (talk) 06:32, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for those suggested hooks. I have inserted them in the nomination. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:56, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

More on the DYK[edit]

Hello Protege. There are now questions at Template:Did you know nominations/Ovda Regio asking where the 15,000,000 km2 area of Ovda Regio came from. I cannot tell myself despite searching. At https://books.google.com.au/books?id=LqwUuMYIEtkC&pg=PA130&lpg=PA130 it says the area is 10,000,000 km2. So where did you get the area of 15 million from? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:06, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Graeme Bartlett,

That number was calculated from this paper: Ghent, Rebecca; Hansen, Vicki (6 January 1999). "Structural and Kinematic Analysis of Eastern Ovda Regio, Venus: Implications for Crustal Plateau Formation". Icarus (139): 116–136. In the paper, it was mentioned that Ovda Regio is Venus' largest crustal plateau with approximate area of 6000 x 2500 km. So I just multiplied those two numbers together and was able to get 15 million km square for the total area. Planetarysprotege (talk) 03:52, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
