Hi Ppe42, I am Pcb21 (barely half the man you are :). Just noticed you wrote Finless Porpoise as an anon IP - great stuff - please feel very free to write more porpoise and cetacean articles... I really want to see those red links disappear from that page.... :-) Pete/Pcb21 (talk) 13:09, 9 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Sorry about that copyright mess. Entirely my mistake. Bmills 13:41, 9 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Just read the article on Wellington, New Zealand, which I really enjoyed. Maybe you could break down the j=history into headed sections to produce a table of contents? Bmills 13:54, 9 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Grits. You might want to look at Naked and Petrified as a link, instead of Slashdot. Just a thought. Mark Richards 07:33, 19 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Maori[edit]

Greetings, Ppe42, fellow-Wellingtonian. How's the weather? (I haven't seen the sky since 8am.) Not much of that formerly excellent activity from you in recent weeks (unless it continues anonymously). Maybe a look at the fledgling Maori Wikipedia may inspire something! Kind regards - Robin Patterson 01:16, 11 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Taps Hot are red.[edit]

You are correct; my error; in AU hot taps are on the left and are blue and labelled "H".

I had read somewhere that taps in Spain are labelled the other way around. Need a Spaniard to advise.

Thanks for the email[edit]

Hello. I just received your email about the Wellington Botanic Gardens page. (Unfortunately I've just noticed it's a dupe of the Wellington Botanical Gardens page... we'll need to fix that.)

Sorry for the delay--I'd left my wikipedia account pointing to an older address that I no longer check very often. (Now fixed.) Yes I am at Vic (by some definition). I'm hanging around the Computer Science dept., having recently finished an MSc and tidying up the corrections. I'll be gone within a matter of weeks since I'm employed in town. I guess you know Joel -- I noticed that your wiki is run off a server that he runs. (Or at least one of his domains.)

Hi Ppe42. I found your pages when I did a Wiki search on Taranaki. I see you also have connections with Stratford, my home town. You probably know me, in fact, people like me obviously inspire a lot of your sociological and psychological thoughtlife! I definitely identify myself as a right wing authoritarian with an understanding of SDO. You might like my blog: www.agrichristian.blogspot.com

Your updates are quite good. Thanks for giving the article some attention. :) --Jacquelyn Marie 03:07, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your pictures[edit]

That's a lovely picture of Mount Taranaki. I select a picture of the week for the Wikiportal:New Zealand page, and I've added it to my list of pictures to feature. It'll be on that page in about a month's time. If you have other pictures of similar quality on Wikipedia, please drop me a line on my talk page.-gadfium 18:56, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just curious - why did you link these two seemingly unrelated articles together? Ppe42 11:37, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The names Uncle Joe's Mint Balls and Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls are built upon the same double entendre. I wouldn't be surprised if the first name was an inspiration for the second. Even if not, the fact that a real world confectionery with such a name exists may be interesting for the South Park fans. · Naive cynic · 09:48, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

LibertariaNZ?[edit]

Hi, thanks for the hello on my talk page.

Unfortunately your hunch is a bit off the mark - I've never been affiliated with the Libertarianz in any form. I certainly didn't stand for any of the electorates up this way in the election just gone. My electorate was missing a Libertarianz candidate, but the candidate in question wouldn't really have stood a chance - John Key won by over 20,000 votes.

Have a good one,

Meager![edit]

I saw your profile from New Zealand and I realised you may actually have a different way of spelling it in your part of the world.

And I did think there may be two different spellings actually. But all I saw on wiktionary was "meager". Maybe I'll just delete the word altogether and lay the matter to rest.

Hi, I'd like to include this image on the Maori wikipedia, and the best way of doing that would be fore it to be in Wikipedia:commons, however that would best be done with you, otherwise it would end up looking as though I had taken the photo and placed it in the public domain. (Commons doesn't keep the history from en as far as I know. Cheers, dramatic 18:38, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reality Dysfunction reference[edit]

The fact that the Reality Dysfunction article is about a book doesn't excuse it from the need to cite a source. Therefore, I have added a proper book citation. (While I was at it, I also added a link to Hamilton's official website and to Wikiquote's Hamilton article, which includes quotes from TRD.) In the future, please don't remove {{unreferenced}} and similar tags unless you first fix the problem they identify. Thank you for your cooperation. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 01:01, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if I removed the unreferenced tag without fully thinking it through, but ... I mea, come on, its a book article. That the information within comes from the book mentioned seems self-evident. On another note, given that you quickly, and apparently easily, put the correct reference in, why didn't you simply do that in the first place instead of placing an ugly tag on the article? Never mind! The article is improved, and Wikipedia moves on.Ppe42 05:27, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You ask an excellent question, kemosabe. Here's a hint: I completely forgot that I was the one who tagged it in the first place. I divide my work between a small group of tasks that each take hours to do properly, a larger group of tasks that only take me minutes to knock off, and a huge group of tasks each of which takes only seconds to do. Tagging unsourced articles is in the third category, and once tagged, these articles often get sources from their more involved editors, so my seconds of work pay off by encouraging interested parties to do required WP tasks. Some articles, however, cause editors to complain or refuse to cooperate. Such articles go into my middle group, where I must put a bit more effort into resolving the problem. It took me a few seconds to tag TRD; it took me several minutes to collect the reference information and add it. (It also spun me off into a side issue of learning the current state of Template:Cite book and fixing some related cite templates.) It is also taking me rather more time to explain my actions, but the dividend I hope to get is another Wikipedian who will henceforth add citations to articles. To borrow from a popular saying, I don't mind feeding villages, but it's even more useful and rewarding to teach people to feed themselves. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 06:25, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I find your, “made the article into an advertisement,” hard to believe as your real reason.

An advertisement is either a “call to action” or a “brand/idea promotion.” My contributions were neither.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

An error (or what I thought was an error) was the spelling in the phrase “conventional foundation or cox spring.” I corrected it into “conventional foundation or BOX spring.” Since you reset it to “cox” I must assume that you want it to be “cox” not “box.” Since your word is so like the word for male poultry, I must assume that you are trying to insert a disparaging attitude. The point is, YOU are the one “promoting an idea.”

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

My addition of the phrase “when powered ON by the thermostat” is the more correct, since without it, it can be assumed that the wattage consumed is consumed 24/7. It isn’t.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The earlier sentence, which you restored: “They can be repaired with a bicycle repair kit or a dinghy repair kit” wasn’t completely wrong. A dinghy is sometimes made of vinyl, so such a kit would work on a waterbed mattress, which is nearly always made of vinyl (urethane waterbeds were never commercially successful in the popular market). However since inner tubes and some dinghy s are made of rubber, a repair kit for rubber is the wrong choice for a vinyl waterbed mattress.

My contribution: “They can be repaired with nearly any vinyl repair kit” is more accurate.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Your removal of my contribution starting: “Rebuttal: Certainly Hall’s waterbed ... “ is curious. It’s not disparaging of Charlie. He and I have always had a cordial relationship. We were never close, but certainly we were never adversaries.

My contribution is historically accurate. I don’t understand why you want to suppress it.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

You might have a point regarding my contribution starting: ”In comparison to air beds. Manufacturers of air beds ...” While I wasn’t promoting an idea, I was responding to the invalid promotion of other ideas.

I have long been irritated by advertisements for air beds. They are false. However since I don’t see “air beds” in Wikipedia, I don’t think that you are a professional airbed advocate. I am not running down air beds, just being defensive about how they run down waterbeds.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The section that preceded my contribution starting: “Rebuttal: While the gross weight ...” is simply wrong regarding the weight of filled waterbeds. I didn’t want to remove the earlier contribution because it’s a popular myth. I did want to shed more light on the issue. You seem to want the light off.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Why would you suppress my contribution starting: “Tips for improved satisfaction. In a waterbed store, you will only ...” My tips are correct, but not the information that anyone would easily get from a retailer or a manufacturer, because under filled and unoccupied, they DO “look strange.”

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I was almost finished with this message when I thought to compare the version just before my changes to your last version. There is no difference. Of course you know that. Your response to my contributions was not at all thoughtful. I suspect that all that you noticed was that someone had changed YOUR contribution. Your response was just to delete the contributions of others and restore YOURS, errors and all.

You are definitely not part of the solution.

However, since I am no longer active in the waterbed industry, I don’t care enough to go back and forth with you on this. You can win, errors and all.

Thank you for your response of 23:39, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

It was on point and very helpful.

Based upon it, I plan to go back and put my edits back into the article - while making them the correct tone, formality and NPOV.

I have reverted to what appears to be the consensus view of Darnton's significance, judging by the other comments on the talk page. Please don't add party political propaganda to wikipedia. It really doesn't help. Neil Leslie 09:45, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Picture fun[edit]

Assuming that it is the same user, they have never broken WP:3RR, having only ever made 3 reverts in 24 hours. Additionally, because they have a dynamic IP, even if there was a clear breach, it would be difficult to do anything about it. Consulting an admin might suggest some other ideas, but I think at this stage it would not be deemed serious enough. --Limegreen 23:22, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I put a note on the NZ Wikipedians' Noticeboard, and it seems like that's been helpful.--Limegreen 06:54, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should you add this webcam to your page: http://www.metservice.co.nz/default/index.php?alias=wellington ? It seesm to be quite close to your home. Is it located on the Met Office Building in the Botanical Garden? If you have a moment to follow the 180 degrees scan: What is the name of the road shown when the webcam points north (shown on the extreme left of the sweep)? Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Bernard-video.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bernard-video.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:57, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Conservatism[edit]

I noticed that you were a contributor to the Social Dominance Theory article, and wonder if you could assist in Conservatism#Psychology. That section has drawn much heated debate, but I wonder whether the section is accurately written. None of the editors have expertise in the subject. Proposed deletion of Peter Cresswell[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Peter Cresswell, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

failed political candidate and former leader of a small political party outside of parliament

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Mattlore (talk) 10:44, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Peter Cresswell requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Jonathan Hall (talk) 10:55, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Peter Cresswell has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

fails WP:BIO, WP:POLITICIAN

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ironholds (talk) 21:33, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Peter Cresswell, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Peter Cresswell. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Ironholds (talk) 13:38, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay[edit]

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
