My page

Thanks for reverting vandalism on my talk page. Imperial Star Destroyer (talk) 15:42, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

No problem. Prashanthns (talk) 21:03, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the clean-up and doubt

I noticed that you cleaned up 2 articles that I created - Ensete superbum and Musa nagensium. Could you tell me/point me a link to how you rated them? Am new to plant articles, and hence the query. Cheers. Prashanthns (talk) 23:07, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

No worries. They were minor changes. I'm sifting through the new plant article list generated by a bot and came across your articles there. You can find assessment criteria at Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants/Assessment. Importance assessments are rather difficult when there's little info. But generally if a plant is widespread, invasive, has some kind of cultural use, we usually rate them a bit higher (mid) instead of low. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask! Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 23:20, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Prashanthns (talk) 23:22, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to intrude, I was just leaving a note with Rkitko. Check out Dendrosenecio -- it is considered to be B-Class, when this article was ranked as 'start class' it looked like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dendrosenecio&diff=204702899&oldid=203880368 ; I suggest to ignore the ratings and rankings and write the best article that you can and know that it is the best article that you can write. I suspect that they have the higher ratings and rankings all tied up by an in-crowd, which isn't supposed to happen. I have yet to see any evidence that it hasn't happened though.
The plant names are kind of funny, huh? -- carol (talk) 18:53, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
Hmm...uh...thanks. Prashanthns (talk) 12:27, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

giant african millipedes

i currently live in edmonton, alberta Canada and am looking for a breeder or importer/exporter of the millipedes. also any info you may have on problems aquiring this species in canada and possible permits needed to keep and aquire the millipede. thanks so much for your help. michelle (68.148.0.99 (talk) 17:17, 29 June 2008 (UTC))

I have no idea about it. Also, I hope that these millipedes that enter the pet trade are not caught from the wild. It might be good idea to ensure that this is not the case, when you find the breeder/exporter. Prashanthns (talk) 06:45, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

RFA Review Moving and unmoving

We ended up using templates to set up worklists for the Statistical Analysis phase of the RFA Review, and those templates used the default format for the response pages of "User:Somebody/RfA review". Since your page was "RFAReview", I tried to move it to the default name - but moved it to "RFA review" instead. Thus, the second move. In hindsight, a redirect would have worked just as well, and I'm not sure why I didn't just redirect the page - but it works, either way. So, you're good to go - and I'm happy to sort out the mess I've made of your userspace, if you want me to. Thanks, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 12:23, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

BLP

Hope you have seen this Wikipedia:BLP. Envy you, supersnarls in Bangalore today. Shyamal (talk) 16:43, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Interesting quote

There is not much shooting immediately round Bangalore. A fair bag of snipe may be made by riding out ten or twelve miles for them, and floriken are found on the grass lands and borders of nullahs in the grain fields, but for large game sportsmen must go far afield to the jungles and mountain ranges west and south of Bangalore, to the banks of the Cauvery, and the mountains of Bababooden and the Billirungums, where every kind of wild animals- known in Southern India are met with. The glorious sport of Morlay and its vicinity has been detailed in Sanderson's delightful pages, and bold would be the writer who would trespass on the ground of that excellent sportsman and naturalist. Those who have the chance of following large game to the south and west of Mysore should take his book, "Thirteen Years among the Wild Beasts of India," as an unerring guide. I made the acquaintance of its author in 1884, on board the P. & 0. ship Chusan. Soon after the commencement of the voyage I fell in conversation with a smart-looking, keen-eyed fellow-passenger, who, after we had exchanged a few remarks showing that each of us was fond of Indian sport, mentioned that he was well acquainted with Mysore, its game, &c. Thereupon I said, " By the by, did you ever meet Sanderson, the elephant-man, you know." To my surprise and amusement he answered, " I am Sanderson ; I am the elephant-man ! " and then we forthwith fraternised as fellow-sportsmen, and exchanged many experiences on shikar matters. I am glad to see that his book has run to a second edition. It well deserves such success. As is often the case under a native government, attempts have lately been made to hem in sportsmen in Mysore with restrictions in their operations. In 1886 shooting and fishing were forbidden, by the Rajah's orders, in five subdivisions of the Bangalore district : and monkeys, wild cow (bison), and Brahminee kites are declared to be sacred animals. In the Colar district shooting and fishing are prohibited in two villages, and " deer and Brahminee kites " are sacred. In the Toomkoor district all sport is tabooed in the hill tracks of one subdivision, and " monkeys, Hunimaun monkeys, deer, parrots, peafowl, Brahminee kites, goorada (?) and swans ! and nightingales " are held sacred. The whole Mysore district (i.e. the division belonging to the city of Mysore) is proclaimed, and in it two birds with names which are quite unknown to science are declared sacred. The order is a little shaky and hard to understand; and as there are no wild swans in India, it seems as if the Maharajah has been turning his geese into swans for the nonce !

Peaks marked

Wonder if you might be able to make a derivative of File:Brhpan.JPG with the key peaks marked with lines - or is this too low a resolution for that? Is the long ridge to the left the Honnamettis? Shyamal (talk) 15:15, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

File:Brhpan.JPG This file is good. --Tamás Kádár (talk) 15:16, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Can you tell me where this is taken from? I thought it looked like it has been taken from the Malki betta midway, where there is a kind of a plateau. But, it does look like the haziness in the left part is the central range. It should be possible to name the hills if you tell me where it has been taken. prashanthns (talk) 15:58, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
It is from a hill range that is reached by walking out of your gate, turning right and taking the game trail to the right past the small bunch of houses there and then proceeding on that trail (which curves to the left, there are some old plantations going back to forest ) and then there are some hillocks where some grazing happens. So we climbed one of these hillocks and then look southward from there. Sorry, that is as much as I can remember. Will try to see if I can spot any landmarks on Google Earth and let you know tomorrow. Shyamal (talk) 16:55, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Request

Hello Prashanthns! I have a request. Can you start an article on Healthcare in Karnataka? The Bald One White cat 15:29, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Dr. Blofeld for the suggestion. Right now, the Healthcare in India article itself is quite bad and needs a lot of improvement. I doubt if it is really necessary to have a separate Healthcare in Karnataka article. Right now, I can only see this as a part of the India healthcare article. Soon, I hope to start working on the indian healthcare article and will consider your suggestion then. Btw, interesting profile there. :) - you've had anything to do with Karnataka earlier? prashanthns (talk) 15:53, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

A little. I was overlooking the work somebody was doing on that state a while back and started a few articles on rivers etc and sorting out Kannada film lists etc. At present thought I'm involved in a discussion at the Indian noticeboard about a bot to get all of the missing Indian village articles onto wikipedia, if you'd like to join in the discussion. Just surprised that the healthcare articles wasn't covered seems as Karnataka seems to have them especially detailed focused articles like Wildife etc The Bald One White cat 15:58, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Could you point me to the discussion? Some people have been contributing prolifically to the wildlife of Karnataka and India. Looks like more wildlife enthusiasts/environmentalists/conservationists spend time on wp than doctors, leave alone public health practitioners. Hence the healthcare articles gap (so also the healthcare gap!). I will definitely start working on it soon. prashanthns (talk) 16:04, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Yes I guess most of the people who have knowledge of medicine and health are working with little time to edit. See Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics#Bot to create articles on missing settlements and places in India. The Bald One White cat 16:09, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
