Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of teams on the 2013–14 World Curling Tour, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Aomori (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). FSCC Early Cash

  • Re FSCC Early Cash -- I deleted it for no indication of notability, given the lack of sources and the asserted fact that this tournament has never yet actually occurred. NawlinWiki (talk) 19:54, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
Per the curling WikiProject's notability guidelines, the event is notable because it's scheduled to be a part of the World Curling Tour. The fact that the tournament has not occurred yet should be of no consequence to its notability, and the tournament is almost certain to take place next week. The article shouldn't have been deleted based on the CSD A7 criteria, since its notability can be demonstrated. If there is a concern about the lack of sources, one could start at the event page on the World Curling Tour website or the event page on the Great Lakes Curling Tour website. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 00:27, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Pittsburgh Curling Club

Hey if Pittsburgh Curling Club is notable enough to have a club, then so is the Charlotte club. Eric Cable  |  Talk  14:42, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Which club are you talking about? The Pittsburgh CC seems only slightly notable relative to many other clubs across the country that are much more notable (and don't have articles). The established grounds for notability are listed here: WP:CURLING/AG#Curling clubs. I'm not sure if the Charlotte club fits any of those criteria, or is especially notable in any other way, but if it is, then I suppose that you'd have good reason to create an article. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 16:12, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
The article for the Charlotte Centre Curling Club was deleted for non-notability. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Charlotte Centre Curling Club. If the Pittsburgh Curling Club is notable enough to have an article, then so is the Charlotte club. Eric Cable  |  Talk  17:00, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
AND...It has received coverage in reliable, secondary sources not directly affiliated with the club or its governing body and it is in an unusual location. Eric Cable  |  Talk  17:14, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
I wasn't aware of that PROD. While I certainly believe that many of the curling clubs in the United States should have articles, I don't think that a strong case can be made for all curling clubs in the United States to have articles. The folks outside the realm of curling are definitely less generous regarding the notability of curling-related articles. Speaking from their perspective, the Charlotte Centre CC does have sources, but the sources aren't substantial enough to merit notability. (As a side note, some of those links aren't working.) I don't see how it's in an unusual location, and that criterion should likely apply to only a few clubs, like clubs at the tops of cliffs or the like. And, since the Charlotte Centre CC is relatively new, it is less likely to be notable. Given these, I'm not sure that I can make a good case for its notability.
Regarding the Pittsburgh CC article, I think it barely meets the notability guidelines we set as a WikiProject, if at all, so I wouldn't try comparing with that article, especially since any inquiries into its notability might cause it to be deleted. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 23:51, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
Please understand that I am NOT trying to get Pittsburgh deleted. I hate hate HATE deletionism due to notability on Wikipedia. It is the WORST thing about participating in Wikipedia in my opinion. As for the Charlotte Club being new and some of the links not working, the userspace version of the article is over three years old. I could add a lot to it and re-publish if I thought the wiki-nazis would not immediately delete it. As for unusual location, I think we are interpreting that differently. A club in Wisconsin is not an unusual location. A club in the deep south IS in an unusual location. Eric Cable  |  Talk  13:47, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
I completely understand. I'm an inclusionist as well, and I hate to see curling articles be so heavily scrutinized for notability. I was just pointing out that it's a very real possibility. I understand your perspective regarding the location, and I think that the criterion is probably referring to what I was talking about, but I still think that it's hard to make a good case for it being notable, given its "youth" and relative insignificance (in relation to the other clubs of the country). Again, this perspective is with regards to making its case for notability to those outside the realm of curling. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 21:05, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

2013 European curling championships

why are you putting Finland as the number 1 seed in the women's b, the official source confirms what the tie-breaker should be, Estonia beat Finland in the round robin so should be number 1.18abruce (talk) 17:01, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

I was going off the standings on the ECC's scoring page here. Curlingzone lists Finland as being first as well, although it is true that Estonia did beat Finland. Maybe there was a DSC tiebreaker for first place? Prayerfortheworld (talk) 17:09, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
No, no dsc, what happened is that they listed the standings as Estonia first until they lost the page game, then swapped their positions. You will notice the same thing has been done with Denmark and Russia in the a standings.18abruce (talk) 17:14, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
That seems like a reasonable explanation for the situation, barring the fact that Denmark actually beat Russia in the round robin, which explains the placement in the standings. However, since the WCF rules state that the head-to-head record should be considered as a "tiebreaker" for teams already qualified for the playoffs, I think we can go with Estonia as first seed and Finland as second seed. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 17:25, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
Denmark was ranked in the dsc behind Russia, if we are presenting the round robin standings then it should reflect the results of the dsc, as it did before the tie-breaker was won, but really that is a trivial distinction. And sorry, why did you swap Norway and Italy in the A standings?18abruce (talk) 17:32, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
I see what you were getting at. There have been a few other people editing the page besides myself, as I've been very busy recently. I probably didn't place Norway and Italy in that manner, but I've fixed it. Thanks for pointing these out! Prayerfortheworld (talk) 18:58, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
Its not like you are getting paid, good lord you put a lot of work into curling. The only reason I ask you here is because I know you know a great deal more about the sport, and I have been prone to missing obvious things lately. The standings pages at ecc.curlit are very frustrating, the worst by far is what they have done now with the men's group b.18abruce (talk) 19:55, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Supplement

We met on the infobox curler discussion, and I think much of what I see there is not relevant to that particular infobox, therefore I come here. You are a bit too wordy for my limited English, I try to simplify. I believe that an infobox is good for people like me who come to the English Wikipedia because it has the broadest offer in article number and depth of coverage, but who don't necessarily speak English well, possibly want to translate something to their language. For such people, the clear parameter list of an infobox is easier to understand than any prose. It doesn't take away from the prose. So why not have it and let it tell the most important facts about a topic (curler, orchestra) first? - What do you think, at a glance, this article is about? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:51, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello! Thank you for sharing your perspective. Regarding the article you mention, I can see immediately from the first sentence of the lede that this is a work of music written by Stravinsky. (I happened to know about The Rite of Spring beforehand, but that is beside the point.) I can also see from skimming the rest of the lede that it was a revolutionary and influential work of music and contributed very positively to Stravinsky's budding reputation. That seems to be a decent twenty-second summary of the subject of the article. I would think, though, that it's hard to have infoboxes for a work of music, since the facts that I would think go into an infobox for a work of music generally do more with the logistics behind the work of music, not so much the subject itself. But I am not an expert in the subject, so I will digress.
Speaking in a more general sense, though, I think that the presentation of information in an infobox is not necessarily an improvement over the presentation of information through the lede. The nature of an encyclopedic entry is for information to be presented in an easily accessible fashion, not in words of exquisite, elaborately composed prose, and the lede in this particular article accomplishes that purpose quite well. Finding key information from the lede's first sentence(s) is thus a simple task. If you'd like, I can elaborate on my perspective. I might also point out that many people, including myself, look to the lede first in beginning to read the article. Regarding infoboxes for use on athlete pages, as {{Infobox curler}} is, I use the infobox as a means of reading information on the athlete's career, achievements, etc. The fact that the athlete is an athlete is already apparent throughout the article, directly and indirectly, and so I argued that the addition was unproductive. I feel as if these changes should be considered subject-by-subject. The arguments made against the addition of an infobox in the discussion on the article on "The Rite of Spring" were completely valid in the context of that article, and of most articles on pieces of music. And I argue that here, in the realm of articles on curlers (and likely of all athletes), the argument against the addition of unnecessary parameters is a completely valid argument, and should be considered as such. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 05:09, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your perspective. Nobody suggested to change the admirable lead of that beautiful article by an author I appreciate highly. I am here for people with different language background who come to the English Wikipedia because of its broad coverage, I am one of them. They are helped by basic information first (by the same author). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:46, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

Curling at the 2015 Canada Winter Games

The reference you posted on Curling at the 2015 Canada Winter Games that references the draw schedule is now outdated, and I can't find a way to replace it with the newer version. There are some crucial curling changes in the newer schedule. The new schedule is http://www.canadagames2015.ca/sites/default/files/36%202015%20SCH%20Master%20Schedule%20of%20Events%20%28Version%205.0%29%202014%2008%2006.pdf Thatcurler (talk) 03:51, 16 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this up. I've replaced the reference. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 05:26, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
Thank you! The schedule is fairly new, and there are still a few unfixed problems in the schedule that will be updated soon. Should I just notify you when the schedule is replaced (only when there is a change in the curling section) or can you teach me how to replace outdated references? Thanks. Thatcurler (talk) 18:19, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
My pleasure. I don't mind if you notify me to replace it, but if you want to learn how to work with references, it's not hard. WP:REF is a good starting place to learn more about references in Wikipedia, but for this particular scenario, this summary will suffice: the reference is contained in between <ref> and </ref>, and I've used a template to display the reference in the format you see in the references section. To update the reference, the information you need to replace is in the url, title, and accessdate parameters of the template that is used in the reference. Tennis article discussion

Because you and others were instrumental in forming our current tennis guidelines on seasonal articles for special players, I though you might be interested in the re-visit being discussed at talk:projectTennis. Currently, because of input from that 2011 discussion, any singles player skilled enough to win a grand slam tournament is allowed continuous seasonal articles. No grand slam tournament win, no season article. A grand slam tournament win in 2012 allows seasonal articles in 2013 and 2014 whether or not more grand slam tournaments were won. I was against these articles, but even I have to admit it has worked reasonably well and there really haven't been all that many articles made. A recent deletion of the 2013 Maria Sharapova tennis season has brought this to the forefront once again and we at Tennis Project are trying to decide if we leave things as they are or narrow the parameters in several different ways. We could use more input (whether your views have changed or not). I gave the old discussion link so you can see your original thoughts, but all those who gave their view before are being invited to discuss. Thanks. Hi,

I need your help for completing Canada at the 2015 Summer Universiade. Thank you very much in advance. Best regards, TheGreenGiant23 (talk) 07:08, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

By the way, could you help us to finish the 2015 Pan American Games sport results pages? TheGreenGiant23 (talk) 08:30, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article 2014 Continental Cup of Curling you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of TheQ Editor -- TheQ Editor (talk) 17:01, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Prayerfortheworld, this nomination was reviewed and put on hold, and you didn't post a response to the review; the reviewer subsequently posted that it had been failed.

While the reviewer has said that he failed it due to that lack of response, he hasn't actually done the final step that would close the review. If you respond before that step it taken (you'll be able to see on Talk:2014 Continental Cup of Curling whether the review is still open or has been closed), there's a chance that the review can continue. Otherwise, you'll have to renominate it. Best of luck. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:17, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

The article 2014 Continental Cup of Curling you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:2014 Continental Cup of Curling for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article.
