Your GA nomination of Garry Schyman

The article Garry Schyman you nominated as a good article has passed Symbol support vote.svg; see Talk:Garry Schyman for eventual comments about the article. Well done! S Masters (talk) 17:31, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

Good work on Music of the Xenosaga series

May I be the first to congratulate you for your work on Music of the Xenosaga series! I admire the way you single-handedly wrote a GA class article. I enjoyed reviewing it (and am now considering buying the game once I'm done with FFXIII). Hats off to you! Cheers! --Tea with toast (talk) 01:50, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

VGseriestitle template

Hi. I noticed you created {{VGseriestitle}}. If you like, I believe I can tweak {{VGtitle}} to do the same thing. Are the only differences the absence of the release dates under the title and the addition of the word "series" after the title? I think one new parameter can accomplish this. How about "|series = yes"? (Guyinblack25 talk 15:57, 27 April 2010 (UTC))

Ok. I think it's working as intended. Let me know how it looks. If everything is good, I'll update the documentation and redirect the series template to this one. (Guyinblack25 talk 19:57, 27 April 2010 (UTC))
Everything should be updated. Let me know if I missed anything or glitches turn up. (Guyinblack25 talk 21:58, 27 April 2010 (UTC))

WikiCup 2010 April newsletter

Trophy.png

Round two is over, and we are down to our final 32. For anyone interested in the final standings (though not arranged by group) this page has been compiled. Congratulations to Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions), our clear overall round winner, and to Colombia ThinkBlue (submissions) and Norway Arsenikk (submissions), who were solidly second and third respectively. There were a good number of high scorers this round- competition was certainly tough! Round three begins tomorrow, but anything promoted after the end of round two is eligible for points. 16 contestants (eight pool leaders and eight wildcards) will progress to round four in two months- things are really starting to get competitive. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Judge iMatthew has retired from Wikipedia, and we wish him the best. The competition has been ticking over well with minimal need for judge intervention, so thank you to everyone making that possible. A special thank you goes to participants Bavaria Stone (submissions) and War ensign of the German Empire Navy 1848-1852.svg White Shadows (submissions) for their help in preparing for round three. Good luck everyone! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. redirect on FF:VI

Thank for correcting my revert on FF:VI. The "video" part of the title didn't quite register and the "pen and paper" phrase jumped out at me when I skimmed the popup preview. —Ost (talk) 16:46, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Final Fantasy leads

Hey, thanks for correcting my edits. "Role-playing video game" works wonders; I should've thought of that.–FunkyVoltron talk 18:48, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Citation help

Excuse me, Pres. I'm having citation problems in Jesus Walks as they are dead and I am wondering if you can find archive links to the links and give them to me. link. GamerPro64 (talk) 20:13, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

I have another Jesus Walks question. Can you make a file of a sample of the song? GamerPro64 (talk) 21:36, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Comment

Congradulations on the Hugo Awards page making FL status. However, I mentioned on the talk page that the title column doesn't sort correctly. Can you fix this? Jimknut (talk) 15:26, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 May newsletter

Trophy.png

We are half way through round 3, with a little under a month to go. The current overall leader is Hungary Sasata (submissions), who has 570 points. He leads pool C. Pools A, B and D are led by Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions), Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) and War ensign of the German Empire Navy 1848-1852.svg White Shadows (submissions) respectively.

Two of last year's final 8, Sweden Theleftorium (submissions) and Iceland Scorpion0422 (submissions), have dropped out of the competition, saying they would rather their place went to someone who will have more time on their hands than them next round. On a related note, a special thank you goes to War ensign of the German Empire Navy 1848-1852.svg White Shadows (submissions) for his help behind the scenes once again. There is currently a problem with the poster, perhaps caused by the new skin- take a look at this discussion and see if you can help. The competition has continued to tick over well with minimal need for judge intervention, so thank you to everyone making that possible. Good luck to all! Hi PresN, if I was you I would just copy paste an article from your sandbox instead of moving it out - will leave you without having to making explaining comments and you will be attributed all the same (and no one wants to read the sandbox edits in the article history, since you used the box as an article incubator). Revision to Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri articles

I noticed that you have revised either Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri or Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire.

I intend to revise those articles following the Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Article guidelines. There are more details on the discussion pages of those articles. I'd be interested in any comments you have. It would be best if your comments were on the discussion pages of the two articles.

Thank you.

Warren Lapine

Howdy! When you removed the prod for Warren Lapine, you mentioned that a magazine he edited had been nominated for a writing award. I wonder, does that qualify him as notable? I would buy that the magazine could be notable under those circumstances, but I'm not sure about the editor. I can always AFD it if I feel strong enough, I suppose, just trying to get a sanity check. Prospective Mega Man music article(s)

Hi there. I've been improving the Mega Man (Rockman) articles these past few months and have discussed with WP:VG an idea for a Music of the Mega Man series article that encompasses a discography for the entire franchise. Seeing as how many of your music articles have gained Good Article status, I was wondering if you might have some extra time to help me with this task. It will be a rather large undertaking, as there have been dozens of CDs released in the past twenty years or so. It may even require more than one article considering there are multiple subseries (Mega Man X, Mega Man Legends, Mega Man Zero, etc.). Just let me know if you're interested. Cheers. ~ Hibana (talk) 15:46, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 June newsletter

Trophy.png

We're half way through 2010, and the end of the WikiCup is in sight! Round 3 is over, and we're down to our final 16. Our pool winners were Australian Federation Flag.svg Ian Rose (submissions) (A), Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (B, and the round's overall leader), Colombia ThinkBlue (submissions) (C) New South Wales Casliber (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions) (D, joint), but, with the scores reset, everything is to play for in our last pooled round. The pools will be up before midnight tonight, and have been selected randomly by J Milburn. This will be the toughest round yet, and so, as ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Though unaffiliated with the WikiCup, July sees the third Great Wikipedia Dramaout- a project with not dissimilar goals to the WikiCup. Everyone is welcome to take part and do their bit to contribute to the encyclopedia itself.

If you're interested in the scores for the last round of the Cup, please take a look at Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Round 3 and Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2010/Full/Round 3. Our thanks go to Bavaria Stone (submissions) for compiling these. As was predicted, Group C ended up the "Group of Death", with 670 points required for second place, and, therefore, automatic promotion. This round will probably be even tougher- again, the top two from each of the two groups will make it through, while the twelve remaining participants will compete for four wildcard places- good luck everyone! Some comments on your Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri edits

  1. Since Civilization 5 is yet to be released and Alpha Centauri is 11 years old, I believe it is proper to consider SMAC to be a sequel to Civilization, not the Civilization series, which are remakes, with the game ending in 2100, which is where SMAC starts. Besides, the source states that SMAC is a sequel to Civilization, not the Civilization series. I am going to change this, since I think it is more accurate to say SMAC is the sequel to Civilization (which suggest that the game picks up where Civilization ends) rather than the sequel to the Civilization series (which might suggest that it was made after those games). If you disagree, start a new section on the article's talk page.
  2. It looks odd to have a combination of italics and non itallics, e.g. Civilization II's. Could you show me in the MoS where this usage is suggested? I'll leave it for now.
  3. You are correct that the names of games should be italicized. I checked the MoS. Thank you.

I am making this comment on your talk page because I appreciate your effort in going through the article and making those changes. At this moment, I am going through sources, so there will be rough edges, particularly in the Development section. I hope you will continue to watch and edit the article. Vyeh (talk) 21:40, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. I went to the WikiProject Video Game page, and looked at a FA, Age of Empires, and saw the same construction of an italicized game name followed by a non-italicized "s." I'll think some more about whether SMAC is a sequel to Civilization or the Civilization series. (Note that the link is to Civilization (series).) Maybe you're right. My concern is to grab the reader's attention in the lead and lay out the major points and part of my concern is making each word count. Thanks for the compliment about the job. Vyeh (talk) 15:37, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
I restored SMAC being a sequel to the Civilization series. I think it captures the intent of the source (who said Civilization even though he discussed Civilization II later in the article). Once again, thank you for your interest. I think I have gotten most of the sources pertaining to development and I am thinking of reorganizing development from a chronological story into a thematic one. We are half-way through our penultimate round, and nothing is yet certain. Pool A, currently led by Hungary Sasata (submissions) has ended up the more competitive, with three contestants (Hungary Sasata (submissions), Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions)) scoring over 500 points already. Pool B is led by New South Wales Casliber (submissions), who has also scored well over 500. The top two from each pool, as well as the next four highest scorers regardless of pool, will make it through to our final eight. As ever, anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Planning has begun for the 2011 WikiCup, with open discussions concerning scoring and flags for next year's competition. Contributions to those discussions would be appreciated, especially concerning the flags, as next year's signups cannot begin until the flag issue has been resolved. Signups will hopefully open at some point in this round, with discussion about possible changing in the scoring/process opening some time afterwards.

Earlier this round, we said goodbye to Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions), who has bowed out to spend more time on the book he is authoring with his wife. We wish him all the best. In other news, the start of this round also saw some WikiCup awards sent out by Finland Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions). We appreciate his enthusiasm, and contestants are of course welcome to award each other prizes as they see fit, but rest assured that we will be sending out "official" awards at the end of the competition. WikiCup 2010 August newsletter

Trophy.png

We have our final eight! The best of luck to those who remain. A bumper newsletter this week as we start our home straight.

  • Pool A's winner was Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions). Awarded the top score overall this round, Sturmvogel_66 writes primarily on military history, favouring Naval warfare.
  • Pool B's winner was New South Wales Casliber (submissions). Awarded the top score for featured articles this round, Casliber writes primarily on natural sciences, especially botany and ornithology.
  • Pool A's close second was Hungary Sasata (submissions). Awarded the top score for featured pictures this round, Sasata writes primarily on natural sciences, favouring mycology.
  • Pool B's close second was Colombia ThinkBlue (submissions). Awarded the top score for good articles and topics this round, ThinkBlue primarily writes content related to television and film, including 30 Rock.
  • The first wildcard was New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions). Awarded the top score for did you knows and valued pictures this round, TonyTheTiger writes on a number of topics, including baseball, American football and Chicago.
  • The second wildcard was War ensign of the German Empire Navy 1848-1852.svg White Shadows (submissions). Someone who has helped the Cup behind the scenes all year, White Shadows said "I'm still in shock that I made it this far" and writes primarily on Naval warfare, especially U-boats.

  • The fourth wildcard was Bennington Flag.svg William S. Saturn (submissions). Entering the final eight only on the final day of the round, William S. Saturn writes on a number of topics, mostly related to Texas.

We say goodbye to the six who fell at the final hurdle. Flag of Oppland.svg Geschichte (submissions) only just missed out on a place in the final eight. Alberta Resolute (submissions) was not far behind. Republic of Ireland Candlewicke (submissions) was awarded top points for in the news this round. Toronto Gary King (submissions) contributed a variety of did you know articles. Finland Suomi Finland 2009 (submissions) said "I'm surprised to have survived so far into the competition", but was extactic to see Finland in the semi-finals. Norway Arsenikk (submissions) did not score this round, but has scored highly in previous rounds. We also say goodbye to Australian Federation Flag.svg Ian Rose (submissions), who withdrew earlier this month after spending six weeks overseas. Anyone interested in this round's results can see them here and here. Thank you to Bavaria Stone (submissions) for these.

Signups for next year's competition are now open. Planning is ongoing, with a key discussion about judges for next year open. Discussion about how next year's scoring will work is ongoing, and thoughts are more than welcome at Wikipedia talk:WikiCup/Scoring. Also, TonyTheTiger is compiling some information and statistics on the finalists here- the final eight are encouraged to add themselves to the list.

Our final eight will play it out for two months, after which we will know 2010's WikiCup winner, and a variety of prizes will be awarded. Signpost "Features and admins" column

Hi PresN,

The Signpost's "Features and admins" page now includes a "Choice of the week" for featured articles, featured lists and featured pictures. Each week, The Signpost invites a different delegate, reviewer or nominator from each process to select what they think is the best, or their favourite, item, and to give their reasons. These reasons can be technical (e.g., related to the Criteria) or subjective, or both.

Would you be willing to do this with featured lists for next week's edition? If you agree, promotions from Saturday 9 October to Friday 15 October will be eligible, as well as three FLs promoted last week. They will be listed here by Saturday UTC, and we would need your text by Sunday UTC. Examples from previous weeks are accessible by clicking on "← PREVIOUS Features and admins" at the bottom. Cheers, Dabomb87 (talk) 04:31, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! It's ready for you. Don't forget that you can choose an FL that was either promoted this past week or one of the three that was promoted the week before. Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 13:16, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
And what an excellent choice you made – well, I would say that, wouldn't I? Many thanks. BencherliteTalk 10:42, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

I was wondering on how to use the navbox that the Final fantasy template series has. WikiCup 2010 October newsletter

Trophy.png

The 2010 WikiCup is over! It has been a long journey, but what has been achieved is impressive: combined, participants have produced over seventy featured articles, over five hundred good articles, over fifty featured lists, over one thousand one hundred "did you know" entries, in addition to various other pieces of recognised content. A full list (which has yet to be updated to reflect the scores in the final round) can be found here. Perhaps more importantly, we have our winner! The 2010 WikiCup champion is Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), with an unbelievable 4220 points in the final round. Second place goes to New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), with 2260, and third to New South Wales Casliber (submissions), with 560. Also, congratulations to Hungary Sasata (submissions), who withdrew from the competition with an impressive 2685 points earlier in this round.

The WikiCup has faced criticism in the last month – hopefully, we will take something positive from it and create a better contest for next year. Like Wikipedia itself, the Cup is a work in progress, and ideas for how it should work are more than welcome on the WikiCup talk page and on the scoring talk page. Also, people are more than welcome to sign up for next year's competition on the signup page. Well done and thank you to everyone involved – the Cup has been a pleasure to run, and we, as judges, have been proud to be a part of it. We hope that next year, however the Cup is working, and whoever is running it, it will be back, stronger and more popular than ever. Until then, goodbye and happy editing! FLC and ACCESS

As a regular at FLC, I'd like to draw your attention to ongoing discussion here about changes to the format of tables which will affect all existing FLs and all current and future FLCs. Your input would be welcome. Thanks for your contributions so far! The Rambling Man (talk) 20:21, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

GAN review of Music of the Front Mission series

I'm currently reviewing Music of the Front Mission series. You can find the review at Talk:Music of the Front Mission series/GA1.--Teancum (talk) 20:18, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey there

As someone with extensive content experience, would you be interested in becoming an Administrator? Honestly, we need more people with the tools, and many of the current candidates at RfA are either inexperienced and/or just not ready to judge consensus. Being an administrator is obviously not an obligation, though it certainly would help to fight vandalism and clear out deletion backlogs every now and then (like I try to do).

The situation at RfA is pretty dire, and I think we need to go out and pick qualified users to receive the tools. —Deckiller (t-c-l) 02:56, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Great—I'll get my nomination ready tomorrow after work. I'm excited; we could always use more content-focused users with the tools! —Deckiller (t-c-l) 04:27, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
The only thing that might get you in trouble are the lack of edit summaries—some editors are pretty big on that, but I think I can explain and offer examples of you using the edit summary function when necessary. —Deckiller (t-c-l) 04:30, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Just some general stuff to brush up on

Here's pretty much the laundry list: Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list. Most of it you obviously know through your time editing articles, participating in consensus-building discussion, patrolling VG articles for deletion, and reverting random vandalism over the years. —Deckiller (t-c-l) 04:44, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

If it fails...

Some users may need further evidence of AfD and vandal fighting participation before becoming comfortable with granting the tools. I mean, even though you've been here more than 4 years, are civil, have demonstrated ability to perform tedious tasks, participate in consensus building, and so forth, there will always be users who want to see the direct, hands-on experience. I can try to explain all this in the nomination, as well as the edit summary point, but would you be comfortable waiting for a month or two and maybe building some edit history demonstrating your Wikipedia knowledge as it applies to AfDs and vandals and stuff? Or would you rather just dive in and focus on offering the best answers to the questions you can? —Deckiller (t-c-l) 05:26, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

It's in the making

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/PresN. User:David Fuchs is gonna co-nom. —Deckiller (t-c-l) 23:42, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Alright, it's up. You can probably go ahead and add user tags about being nominated. —Deckiller (t-c-l) 04:14, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Video Games

I see you're into playing video games. What are your favorite games? –BuickCenturyDriver 10:25, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks again for doing the links check for Petrified Forest National Park, which became a featured article today. Finetooth (talk) 04:10, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Pending closure

Looks like your RfA is pending closure. At 88 percent, it will most likely be considered a pass. Congrats in advance! —Deckiller (t-c-l) 04:22, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Seconded. Congrats! Sven Manguard Talk 04:59, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
I've closed your your RFA as successful. I'm sure you've reviewed the comments and will be mindful of them while stepping into your new role. Feel free to drop by with any questions. Congrats =] –xenotalk 05:10, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
Congrats! Don't let power inflate your ego too soon, plenty of time for that :) Good luck, Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 05:14, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
Congrats! - I know I  !voted oppose, but I'm sure you realise that this was on a matter of Wikipedia principle and not meant personally in any way, as I always had every confidence that your RfA would pass and that you will wield the mop bravely and judiciously :)--Kudpung (talk) 06:00, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

By the way, I like video games, too. My favourites are Zelda and Mario games, which are you favourites? –BuickCenturyDriver 11:46, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Undid your undo

I'm letting you know that I removed the article (I can't show it because I'm on my Android) because it doesn't have a WP:VG tag on its talk page. GamerPro64 (talk) 01:09, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Blurb on you

Hi, could you check what I've written and edit if necessary? Tony (talk) 11:47, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Music of Final Fantasy XIV

Hey Pres. Not trying to rush you or anything, but when are you making Music of Final Fantasy XIV? Its currently on Future Retention Periods at Wikipedia:Featured topic criteria. GamerPro64 (talk) 03:43, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

.hack FAC

As someone who commented on the previous FAC, perhaps you'd be interested in taking a look at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/.hack (video game series)/archive2? Thank you in advance, Axem Titanium (talk) 03:19, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of leaders of the Soviet Union/archive2

Hi PresN, can you revisit the above FLC when you get the chance? The list appears to have received a copy-edit. Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 22:57, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

TRAJQ

Yeah, that was a hard one. Really taught me what it feels like to pull an entire article together yourself, I guess, and how it is to totally research it as well. JimmyBlackwing and I are hammering away at Anachronox (when we can catch free time, that is). The reception section is already a beast, and the development section will be too. Can't wait to storm the halls of Wikipedia with a killer, fantastically-sourced real-world perspective VG article like that. ZeaLitY [ Talk - Activity ] 06:14, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup multipliers

Hey PresN. Seeing as you've been one of the people who's really led the multipliers discussion, could you take a look at this? It's perhaps not as revolutionary as it could have been, but it seems, to me, to be a fair conclusion. J Milburn (talk) 20:49, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
