Welcome to WIKISOO[edit]

Hello and welcome to the Writing Wikipedia Articles course (#WIKISOO)! We look forward to meeting you in the first class on 25 February (Americas)/26 Feb (Asia/Australia). By now you should have received an introductory email with some details about the course. If you can't find it, there's an archived copy of the email at this link.

To attend the live session, please check our course home page for instructions and the link. We recommend logging into Blackboard Collaborate (the live class software we use) before the day of class, to be sure it's working. (More tips on the home page.)

If taking the course in self-paced mode, please come say hello on the course talk page so we know who you are! Thanks for signing up, and we'll see you Tuesday! - Pete (talk) 06:14, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Second WIKISOO class starts soon![edit]

Hi! Just a quick reminder that the second WIKISOO class starts in about 3 hours. Even if you missed Week 1, please join us at this link for the live webinar - ideally about 15 minutes early to test your mic/speakers. If you haven’t finished up your Week 1 homework, there’s still time; post any questions on the class talk page! You can also watch a video of last week’s class on YouTube (earlier audio problems have been corrected). Feel free to contact me on my talk page with questions anytime! - WIKISOO co-instructor Sara FB (talk) 22:06, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

WIKISOO Week 3[edit]

Hi Pru.mitchell, we look forward to seeing you in class in a few hours. We look forward to seeing you in class in a few hours. Here's the link to our Week 3 class page and to the live webinar.

PLEASE NOTE: If you're not in the USA, please double-check the class time. We have gone on Daylight Savings Time (also known as Summer Time) in the USA, so for some of you the class time will be an hour earlier. (If your country goes on Summer Time in the coming weeks, you will want to check again!)

This week we are going to start off with some basic review of all we've covered. So if you've been feeling behind or confused by all the details, we'll make sure we've got your questions answered before forging ahead! See you soon, -Pete (talk) 16:29, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Week 4 of Writing Wikipedia Articles: Final Projects Ahoy![edit]

Hey Pru.mitchell - hope all is going well with you as we segue into Week 4 of WIKISOO! Just a reminder, in case you need it, that depending on your time zone, class time may have shifted - check out this link to make sure you know when to join us. Looking forward to chatting more with you this week about the Final Project - if you already know which article you're working on, you'll find instructions there for sharing this information easily with your classmates. Post any questions to the class Talk page, please! See you in class tomorrow! Sara FB (talk) 01:45, 18 March 2014 (UTC)

WIKISOO check-in[edit]

How's it going, Pru.mitchell? Just touching base as we start the fifth (!) week of the WIKISOO course. We're excited to see students working on such a diverse range of articles! If you haven't already, log in, scroll down to the bottom of the main course page to list your chosen final project article next to your own name; brag a little about your work (or just ask questions!) on the course talk page; and join the live lecture tomorrow as we move towards completion of the course! This is when things get exciting. :) Looking forward to seeing you in class! - Sara FB (talk) 23:42, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Week 6 of WIKISOO[edit]

Hi Pru.mitchell! Just checking in as we head into the final week of the Writing Wikipedia Articles class. You can look through last week's ether pad notes, check out your homework assignments from Week 5, and watch last week's lecture on YouTube - all right here. Check out my note from last week (above) if you're still diving into your Final Project... or head over to the course talk page to see if anyone else is having the same issues you are! Looking forward to seeing you in the last live webinar of the session tomorrow. Big WikiLove. -Sara FB (talk) 23:23, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

:File:1Lib1Ref 3.svg
Riverside Precinct Adelaide Meetup
Next: TBD
Last: 19 May 2018
This box: view  talk  edit

Hi. I found the meetup page contents rather cryptic.

  • It took me a while to work out what a Caddie Brain is. Perhaps add a brief bio, and what her role at the meeting will be?
  • Maybe something about you and your role?
  • Training newbies to do what?
  • What is #1lib1ref South Australia?
  • What is GLAM Peak SA?

But the main reason I'm here: Approximately where is it likely to be? Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 11:26, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

P.S. When do you want to make the event public? i.e. When to change ------------------------------------------------------>

Thanks! I have filled out those rough ideas a little more over on the event page. Happy to go public. Hoping to organise venue soon - a library, or uni close as possible to the city. Any suggestions?

Happy to go public - Bahudhara made it public, so that one's solved. The GLAM workshop in Nuriootpa sounds interesting.
Venue: Any suggestions? - Ideally with good wireless, possibly computer lab, central, open on Saturdays, with parking and near public transport - Gee, you don't want much, do you! ;-) Maybe @Bahudhara: and/or @Bilby: have something up their sleeves? Pdfpdf (talk) 09:40, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
In regards to venues, I can probably do something at City West - if I have a rough idea of numbers I can organise wifi access and book one of the experimental teaching rooms in the library, but I won't be able to provide pool computer access as they tend to be reluctant to provide that to visitors. - Bilby (talk) 10:12, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Thanks @Bilby That sounds great. Uni wireless will be fine - and we ask people to bring a laptop. I think we might get between 10-20 people. Would we fit this many in the library's experimental teaching room? I can do a registration form if numbers are limited. Can you let us know if this is possible? THANKS!

The room will take about 40 - it is a nice room, with all the walls as whiteboards, although its main purpose is for collaborative work over presentations. - Bilby (talk) 07:02, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
YES PLEASE - if you can get that, and guest wireless access we will go for it. Does that time (10am - 1pm) suit you on Saturday 19 May?
The time should be fine, although I'll try and book it for a couple of extra hours to be safe. There are two rooms next to each other, so I'll grab the one with the better view. Wifi access isn't a problem, but I'll need to hand out accounts when people arrive. - Bilby (talk) 07:37, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
The room is booked - Jeffery Smart Building, University of South Australia City West Campus, off Hindley street. Room JS5-13, seats 36, booked for 9am to 3pm to make sure you have some leeway. I've also requested guest wi-fi access for 30 people. - Bilby (talk) 04:59, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Food[edit]

Curd Rice

Hello! After the successful pilot program by Wikimedia India in 2015, Wiki Loves Food (WLF) is happening again in 2018 and this year, it's going International. To make this event a grand success, your direction is key. Please sign up here as a volunteer to bring all the world's food to Wikimedia. Danidamiobi (talk) 21:53, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

Event coordinator[edit]

Hi Pru! As discussed, I've added you to the Wikipedia:Event coordinator group, which will allow you to create accounts at the events which you run. The instructions are in the link - there are a few rules, but the main one is to ensure that when creating accounts you tick the box to send a temporary random password to the provided link. Otherwise, all should be good. - Bilby (talk) 01:20, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
