Speedy deletion nomination of Karl Umrigar[edit]

Hello PukkaParsi,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Karl Umrigar for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Lady Frainy Bomanji May 2018[edit]

Information icon Hello. Your recent edit to Harrogate appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Per WP:BRD you need to discuss this on the article's talk page. Do not continue to restore this material. Yes, some people are included on lists of notables without having their own articles. In many cases they should not be included so this is not a valid argument. You should read WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. In some cases the person clearly is notable and just does not happen to have an article yet. That's an exceptional case and is allowable if there are sufficient sources in the list entry to clearly show the person's notability per WP:BIO. Your single source is a local obituary and is not even close to being sufficient to show the notability of the subject, let alone that of her mother. See WP:WRITETHEARTICLEFIRST. And an obituary is not sufficient to show notability for an article. Meters (talk) 17:59, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Meters, She was called Lady Harrogate and very notable person of Harrogate. She also received Freedom of the Borough in 1984. I will make their pages this week and will add their names later
Thanks for encouraging me to get to it.

I wouldn't say that I encouraged you to write this. In fact, I will probably be nominating this article for deletion. Meters (talk) 05:25, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'll give you some time to work on it, but you need reliable independent secondary sources about her to show her notability. See WP:NOTINHERITED. Problems with the current sources include:
  1. User generated websites (blogs, personal web pages, genealogy sites, etc) are not considered reliable sources,
  2. The Daily Mail is not considered a reliable source,
  3. Mention in passing does not help to show her notability (the article about her house, for example)
  4. Mention in local media is not sufficient ot show her notability — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meters (talkcontribs) 06:14, May 21, 2018 (UTC)

Hi [[User:Meters|Meters], i m surprised that you say this. She was awarded the highest award a council can give in England. Do u not consider that to be given to someone worthy n notable. I urge u to not make this mistake of deleting it but help in making it better. It would be a sad day if a person like lady bomanji who used almost all her wealth not just for Harrogate but for whole of England. Her charity goes all the way to India. I would request you to respect this kind n generous soul n the way she n her family have been to rest of us. see this as well.... https://www.harrogateinbloom.org.uk/new-tourist-guide — Preceding unsigned comment added by PukkaParsi (talkcontribs) 09:40, May 21, 2018 (UTC)

I’ve found a couple of things which may be of interest, but not enough to establish notability as set out in WP:GNG – There is an American newspaper writing about her at Ascot - https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/161798301/ - and a book that mentions her as a life member of the Indian Social Club – "Asians in Britain: 400 years of history" (p.297) - https://books.google.co.uk/books/about/Asians_In_Britain.html?id=aGBnAAAAMAAJ – and she is also listed here - https://wdc.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/tav/id/4829/ - but more sources directly about her are needed to show notability - if you can't find any online try looking in a reference library. EdwardUK (talk) 14:14, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks EdwardUK I am trying get as much as I can but google is limited as we all know. They lived a very private life but i feel the amount we have now is good enough for us to have a page on wiki. They were most notable people in harrogate and have helped so many including war veterans war widows and people living in harrogate. No one ever left her home empty handed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PukkaParsi (talkcontribs) 23:20, May 21, 2018 (UTC)

It has been almost a week since I pointed out the problems with Frainy Bomanji. I don't see any significant improvements so I'll be nominating it for deletion. Meters (talk) 19:27, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Meters, I am not sure why you would do that but u can do that anyways. She received the Honorary Freemanship of the Borough in 1984 for her service and generosity to Harrogate. I guess u think any guy of the street can get those. PukkaParsi (talk) 01:00, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What I think about who Harrowgate chooses to award that to is irrelevant. What matters is if this woman is notable. If you don't know why I would nominate this article you should reread what I have already posted. you need reliable independent secondary sources about her to show her notability. She does not inherit her notability from her husband or from her house, and local mentions of her or mentions in passing do not show her notability. I don't believe that the article shows her notability., and I've already pointed out the problems with the sources you have used. I gave you a week to flesh out the article and sources, but if you cannot find anything more substantial I will nominate for deletion and let the community decide if this article should be deleted. Meters (talk) 04:02, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Meters, you are right I could not find anything on the internet which is less than 2 decades old while she did these things when there was no internet. Philanthropy is what she did post her husbands death helping countless no of war widows post the 2nd world war and the only reason you could find was hey its not on the internet. I cannot trust some news articles about her as they are not considered notable.

With the support of the "Bomanji Family" a book called 'Music Over The Waters' is coming out which tells how the provision of music in the Spa town eventually led to the creation of Harrogate International Festivals in 1966 by local private citizens including Lady Bomanji. The book then continues to describe the successful growth of Harrogate International Festival over fifty years up to 2016.

If you would be interested in purchasing a copy of this book and learning more about the founding members and history of the Festival please do register your interest http://harrogateinternationalfestivals.com/news/malcolm-neesam-music-over-the-waters/

But will you wait??? for this book to come out and they buy a copy to really understand her notability??? I won't as I have done my job by creating a wiki doc for her. Now its your turn to do yours. Cheers 04:17, 28 May 2018 (UTC)PukkaParsi (talk) 04:17, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It is most certainly not my "job" to do anything for this article. I've been patient and I've tried to be helpful by pointing out what the problems are. I've looked for additional sources without finding anything useful, and I've spent more than enough time on this. User:EdwardUK has already found some new refs and suggested to you how you might overcome the issue of lack of online sources. You wrote the article. If you cannot find sufficient sources don't point your finger at us. Meters (talk) 04:28, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Meters Does the title Lady not enough to be notable. Refer to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady She was given title Lady Frainy Bomanji also sweetly called Lady Bom by the residents of Harrogate. Do you think a person not notable would get that title?? PukkaParsi (talk) 04:33, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, her husband having a title is not sufficient. Did you read WP:BIO when I pointed you to it? You need to show that she meets WP:BASIC. I'm not seeing it. If she does not meet that but she meets WP:ANYBIO then it's still possible she's notable and article improvements might fix the issue..I'm not seeing that either, thus my statement that I will probably take this to WP:AFD. Meters (talk) 04:43, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

well thats the best I can do with internet. But truth does not change and history does not get erased. If her going out of the way to help war widows and spending her own money doing it and helping those widows get rights and respect in an era they were shunted by regressive english society is not good enough for u then nothing will be. So stop wasting my time and add the delete template. But remember this user talk will never be erased and it is good enough for me that she was once remembered for her kind deeds and two mortals could not agree on her notability. PukkaParsi (talk) 04:52, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies to Lady Bomanji for failing even though she never failed in her deeds and all I can wish for her is to attain Garotham Behest. PukkaParsi (talk) 05:05, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Meters, I happen to find below link which has list of NOTABLE PEOPLE that Trevor Stubley has painted. Will this now be enough to say that she would not be in the list if she was not NOTABLE hence we have now established her notability. EdwardUK can u also share your views. Thanks http://www.trevorstubleygallery.co.uk/profile.htm PukkaParsi (talk) 23:31, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No. all that shows is that the painter in question painted her portrait, and decided to list her under "Prominent portrait sitters". The painter's opinion on his own website is not a reliable source as to her notability. Meters (talk) 00:37, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Meters, the royal society seems to think the same. http://archive.li/4Qn7z#selection-1655.0-1655.26 Hes painted HM the Queen of England and none of those people in the list are NOT NOTABLE hence the only one you think is NOT NOTABLE is Lady Bomanji. I wonder why you would think that — Preceding unsigned comment added by PukkaParsi (talkcontribs) 01:51, May 29, 2018 (UTC)

The list does suggest notability but it does not state how or why she is notable, and biographical articles need sources which can do this. At the moment there may not be enough to sources to do this properly – however you mentioned a book that is due to be published which may be helpful – so even if the article is deleted then it would be possible to re-create it if more sources become available – I'd recommend using the "Articles for Creation" process as the people who review it can suggest ways of improving the article. EdwardUK (talk) 01:57, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I made no comment at all about the other people on the list. I simply said that a list published by a portrait painter in which he called her a prominent sitter is not reliable evidence of her notability. It doesn't mean she (or anyone else on that list) isn't notable. It's just not a reliable source to use as evidence she (or the others) are.
It's not appropriate for you to suggest that I have something against the subject of the article. I don't care whether she has an article or not. I only care that if she has an article it is because her notability is properly established with reliable sources. Is there some reason you have such a desire to have an article on her?
You have not improved the article sufficiently to show her notability in my opinion, and you state that you cannot find (or are unwilling to look for) better sources so I'm nominating it for deletion. I have spent far too long on this. Piles of text on your talk page do nothing to help show notability. Meters (talk) 02:07, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Meters, by virtue of she being in the list makes her prominent. Anyways I did everything I could. Kindly do your thing. Thanks

Hi Jcuk, Darrenmarshall, You are residents of harrogate. Kindly advice on this. Thanks PukkaParsi (talk) 03:41, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi The joy of all things Chronotopian fiddlersmouth JeremyA, Kindly advice on this. Thanks PukkaParsi (talk) 06:08, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I see nothing here that warrants my involvement; Meters is quite correct in what they have postulated so far and by asking for my involvement feels a little bit like WP:CANVASS. EdwardUK seems to be with you, but I am not getting my feet wet on this one. Regards. The joy of all things (talk) 07:51, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, PukkaParsi. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Karl Umrigar, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 21:37, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Barkeep49 Do you know anything about Indian racing that you are talking. Have you not read below links and done your own investigation?? Do you think someone would write in a Leading newspaper if he was not good enough. Which jockey of the world has a record similar to his. Karl Umrigar who rode 144 mounts that season with 54 winners, 33 seconds, 22 thirds and 17 fourths, only 18 of his rides failing to finish in the frame. I have only cited few points from a book that talks about karl. Prakash Gosavi the writer is a leading horse racing reporter. https://www.mid-day.com/articles/karl-umrigar-we-miss-you/77568

It's called helping. I'm simply improving what errors I can. And it's not me who will delete it if it is to be deleted. The community will decide if it is to be deleted, and if so an admin will then delete it. Meters (talk) 04:08, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Here's the copyvio I found in Parsi:

When combined with the four copyvio messages already in place on your talk page, I felt the block to be necessary. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 23:03, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(talk), thanks for your good work for wiki. I am a newbie and from your last advice i did make changes but still not a professional on wiki. I am learning as I go and now that you have explained it better I will correct myself and move on. So I would request you to unblock me so I can fix up what I have done. Please note like you I am also spending my precious time to update wiki with facts for the people of this world and I do not have any intentions in violating any copyrights. Many thanks PukkaParsi (talk) 23:19, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Diannaa, you have also blindly reverted my work. For eg. Issues relating to the deceased: I have not copied anything from anywhere but corrected statements.

Request reason:

Hi, as i have said earlier I assure you that I will not copy even a word from a copyright content. I will write every word in my own words. My response above as requested. I would humbly request admins to give me one last chance and i assure them I will not fail them ever. You have my word. Thanks PukkaParsi (talk) 10:34, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Yamla: the questions have been answered, although admittedly the answers were provided by modifying the previous unblock template, so I can see how you'd miss them. For clarity, I replicate them below, with minor formatting changes:
  • What is copyright?
the exclusive and assignable legal right, given to the originator for a fixed number of years, to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material..
  • How is Wikipedia licenced?
licensed to the public under one or several liberal licenses
  • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
for obvious reasons since it belongs to somebody else.
  • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
if they fall into the public domain or their copyright is explicitly disclaimed
  • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?
by ensuring i always write my own content and cite articles instead of copying content from sites.
Yunshui  13:23, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Well, these answers are not generally correct. For example, the answer to when we can use copyrighted content is outright false. The answer to "what is copyright" appears to be a copyright violation from Oxford Dictionaries. I'd have declined the unblock request on this basis. --Yamla (talk) 13:26, 8 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am not IT guy but someone who knows history which most people have no clue about and I am trying to help wiki. So expecting me to know all this IT jargon is not right. All I know that I will only write in my own words from now on and if I dont you can block me permanently. Everyone deserves a chance to prove. Thanks PukkaParsi (talk) 00:04, 9 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but as Yamla indicates, your answers are not generally correct and in some places completely wrong. I don't doubt your good motives, but until you can demonstrate that you adequately understand policies on copyrighted content, you cannot be unblocked. As such, I am declining this request. 331dot (talk) 08:05, 9 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I understand but i m not a repeat offender and if i do that even 1 more time u can ban me for life without questions. I have no intentions as you are assuming. I can understand your position but I give u full liberty to monitor my work and also review my past work and see. I am only here to help wiki using my knowledge of history and nothing more. I acknowledge my stupidity but I have learnt from it and I am ready to take it seriously. I will keep it very simple from now on and only TYPE IN MY OWN WORDS. I give u full liberty to block me forever if i repeat this offence but I would request you to give me one last chance to prove you all wrong. You have nothing to lose I have everything to lose. Let me restore my honour. PukkaParsi (talk) 01:50, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We've already monitored you and taken the liberty of blocking you. What we do have to lose is time wasted checking every single one of your contributions, which we shouldn't have to keep doing after you've already been warned numerous times (starting in December of 2017) and blocked for it. You are a repeat offender. This is clear looking at all the warnings on this talk page. Additionally, you see you have learnt from your previous mistakes, but if so, you'd be willing and able to answer the questions posed above, correctly, instead of answering them incorrectly and instead of violating copyright (really!!!) by directly copying and pasting your answers from elsewhere. You say we have nothing to lose. That's objectively false. Your actions have placed the entire project in legal jeopardy. If you wish to restore your honour, answer the questions posed above, correctly and without further violating copyright. Or stop wasting our time. --Yamla (talk) 12:21, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

As requested, Below are my responses... What is copyright? Copyright is a protection given to intellectual property to protect the original idea/concept from being copied. It helps the owner of the property to also allow content to be shared as per guidelines set out by the owner. How is Wikipedia licenced? It is a freely licensed product which means it can be reused as you please. Though there are exceptions which are explained under "Fair Usage" on wiki. Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia? To protect intellectual property of the owner and to ensure there are no legal disputes for wiki since intellectual property is protected by several copyright laws of states/countries. Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content? Copyright content can only be used when the owner of the content provides explicit permission to do so. That permission is obtained at the time of uploading content for eg media. How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future? I will keep it very simple for myself by ensuring I always write in my own words and cite articles instead of copying content from sites. I hope this time I have answered it correctly. Kindly unblock me. Many Thanks PukkaParsi (talk) 00:39, 11 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

At least one of the above answers is still incorrect. To the next reviewing admin, it's clear this user doesn't understand copyright and fair use. Given this is the fifth unblock request, I have revoked talk page access to prevent them wasting any more of our time --Yamla (talk) 11:30, 11 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
