Thank you for the note[edit]

You are kind to recognize my efforts. I was simply clicking on the "recent changes" link to find some things that looked like less-than-stellar edits, and the Jon Kitna article flashed up there. S. Dean Jameson (talk) 03:09, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

The Star Wars Kid's name is, in fact, Ghyslain Raza. —Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 01:17, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

There is extensive consensus that we are going to leave his name out of the article. Discuss on the article talk page if you wish to try and change this. FCYTravis (talk) 18:06, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Please note that when User:FCYTravis says "consensus", usually he means his own personal opinion. Although I agree with him that discussing on the article talk page is an excellent way to establish "consensus", Wikipedia is littered with Travis's statements of what "extensive consensus" is, that really amounts to nothing more than his own personal opinion. See Talk:Nigel McGuinness for a prime example. Reswobslc (talk) 20:21, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

FA-Team Mission 4 success![edit]

Draining and development of the Everglades, which in the end we decided not to rename "Complete land rape of South Florida", has achieved FA status! Congratulations and thanks all around! Hmm... good question. I would say if the owner of the userpage considered the edit to be vandalism since it wasn't really helping, then yes, it would be vandalism, although I'm probably wrong.   jj137 (talk) 22:22, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Using subject's name in Talk:Star Wars Kid[edit]

You have repeatedly used the article subject's name in the discussion about whether using the name in the article is OK or not.

As the BLP policy explicitly says, some aspects of the policy (including the privacy issues) apply to talk pages as well as article pages.

The name has been removed repeatedly by several administrators. Please stop including it there. You are welcome to discuss the issue without using the name. Thank you. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 03:33, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

A Variety of Questions[edit]

I have three questions for you. This is your first experience as my adopter, so I hope all goes well.

1. I've been looking around and seeing Account Creator Rights. I clicked on the link, but, in my opinion, it wasn't helpful. What exactly does an Account Creator do? I'm intrigued.

2. How exactly are bots run? I would like to run one, but that depends on how hard it is to create one; I can be low-key when it comes to technology.

3. My former adopter (WikiZorro) was going to tell me about user scripts. Since he retired, it never came to be. Yesterday, I finally went and installed basic Twinkle and Friendly. Are there some advanced user scripts I should know about?--LAAFan 17:11, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Can you help?[edit]

I see you were listed as a participant in the League of Copy-Editors so it seems likely. The thing is the Military history wikiproject urgently needs prose pros to help with our best articles. Milhist covers a broad range of interesting and varied subjects from film to biography, battles to weaponry, and Roman emperors to twentieth-century dictators. In Milhist, A-Class has become the last port of call before FAC and we are looking for people to help identify prose and MoS issues at A-Class A-Class Reviews and help fix them prior to featured article candidacy. We also have a copy-editing section in our Logistics Dept and that can always use experienced copy-editors. For most of our articles, you don't need to be a specialist in the subject matter, just good with words.

If you think you can help, please do! Thanks for your time, --ROGER DAVIES talk 07:53, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

First, thank you very much for responding to the call. I'm sorry it's taken a bit of time to get back to you but I've got the builders in at home (and they're causing chaos) and I've got very behind.
Second, we need help on a couple of levels. we are so short of good copy-editors, partly because of the large number of Milhist articles at PR and FAC, that we're trying to concentrate on A-Class reviews and featured article candidates. I've taken the liberty of transcluding our new tracker template, listing the applicable articles. To add this to your user pages independently of this message, simply cut and paste {{WPMILHIST Copy-editing alerts}} to the required location.
A-Class - copy-tasting / reviewing
We are currently trying to improve the depth and quality of the Milhist A-Class review. What will help here considerably is copy-tasting. That is, reviewing an article and commenting on the style and prose. Clarity, longwindedness (the bane of Milhist), grammar, mixing and matching WP:ENGVAR varieties, MoS stuff (especially dashes), date formatting etc. (Any subsequent copy-editing would be a very welcome and helpful bonus!) Input on any current A-Class candidate would be helpful.
Copy-editing pre-FA and FA candidates
Editors normally take articles go from ACR to FAC, usually via a request for a copy-edit. These requests are usually made here or by leaving messages on copy-editors talk pages. You can respond to requests there or list yourself as a copy-editor so that others may contact you. Either would be very much appreciated. Additionally, a frequent reason for opposition is prose and some hands-on copy-editing of FA candidates would be enormously helpful. (If you do subsequently support the article, please do remember to disclose the copy-edit: ie Support (as copy-editor) though you may prefer simply to Comment that a copy-edit has been done.)
I do hope you can help and that this grows into a longer-term commitment. We are working very hard to set the bar for quality with Milhist articles and quality copy-editing is an essential part of this. With apologies again for the tardy reply, --ROGER DAVIES talk 05:39, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

WP:KCC update[edit]

Hey, man. Long time no talk. Just wanted to update you on the fact that I've nominated Joe Delaney for A-class status, and both List of Kansas City Chiefs head coaches and Kansas City Chiefs seasons for Featured list status. I've added a whole bunch of Chiefs pictures on articles too, like the Chiefs' main article to make it look spiffy. If all of these articles pass, hopefully I'll be starting up the Chiefs' WikiProject in full force if you were still interested (you were really the only other person truly helping in the effort). Hope you're having a good summer and so on. Take care. conman33 (. . .talk) 04:48, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Specify level of copy-editing[edit]

Hi RC-0722

Could you please specify your level of copy-editing for the military history project here.

These are the levels:

  1. Copy-edit lite: basic proof-reading, spellchecking, punctuation.
  2. English variant conversion: for example, from American English to Commonwealth English, or vice versa.
  3. Naturalising: copy-edit for editors whose English is fluent but not perfect.
  4. FAC prose copy-edit: flow, structure, elegance.
  5. FAC technical copy-edit: MoS-compliance for dashes, hard spaces, numbers, measurement conversion.

Thanks a lot. Wandalstouring (talk) 12:21, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Level 4 copyedit[edit]

The military history article on William Johnstone Hope needs some editing for structure flow and elegance. I would be glad if you could do that. Otherwise it is a good article and I would nominate it for A-class. Greetings Wandalstouring (talk) 12:48, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Hope had been a lieutenant for several years at that time.Wandalstouring (talk) 07:28, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
To clarify, Hope was already a lieutenant but was specially requested by Hughes to be lieutenant on board Hughes's ship HMS Adamant. (and sorry for reverting something you did in the middle of a copyedit, Wandalstouring hadn't told me at that point that he'd requested you have a look. I do think that section is rather short though and would do better incorporated somehow with the one below it.) --Jackyd101 (talk) 07:58, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
In another note, please see the talk page per your removal of redlinks to ships. The ships wikiproject is steadily working its way through these red links and as such it is not particularly helpful or useful to remove them just because they aren't blue right now. I myself have been filling in these redlinks and had these on my to do list, so please could you restore them unless there is an actionable reason why they should be removed.--Jackyd101 (talk) 08:46, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
I think its best they go back now, it will save time later and the article doesn't need them delinking. If the new articles aren't created by someone with a connection to this article then they won't know there is a need to create the new articles unless the red links already exist.--Jackyd101 (talk) 18:20, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I think your other edits on the article have all been good ones, keep it up.--Jackyd101 (talk) 21:13, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Would you consider my work on Cy Young substantially enough for me to nominate for GA? I don't have a lot of edits to it, but I copyedited the entire article and added about 8 references.--LAAFan 01:08, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Articles needing copy edit (tentative name)[edit]

Hello there!

I have begun laying the groundwork for a new WikiProject that has a very simple goal, to improve Wikipedia by dealing with the articles tagged for copy edit, and I am wondering if you are interested in helping me start it. This project is not a clone of WP:LOCE because we will not deal with requests for review (that is currently handled by our good friends over at Peer Review).

I expect that this will be a relaxed, happy and casual WikiProject, because participants will be able to take things at their own pace and use the project page to ask other participants for help. The project proposal is here, and I have created an almost-functional project page in my userspace here.

There are now over 4000 articles needing copy edit, and very, very few people working on them, so any help, however small, is appreciated. If you are interested, please sign up at the proposal page. Once we have enough people, I will shift the project page, along with its subpages from my userspace into the Wikipedia namespace. For now we can use this section of my talk page to discuss the direction and details of the project, and, of course, its name. *grin*

Cheers!-Samuel Tan 12:35, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the support! The project page is now up at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles Needing Copy Edit. It's now a bit bland 'cos there are no pretty pictures yet heh... Feel free to sign up there, and discuss details and direction and what not at its talk page. I'll be sending out invitations to the members of WP:Grammar, and later WP:LOCE and maybe WP:PR. Cheers! -Samuel Tan 03:13, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Oops! Your name wasn't updating on the participants list cos of a silly coding error. *bonks head* Fixed now! See you at the project page. :)Samuel Tan 07:17, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

FA-Team Mission 5: Solar solicitude/solidarity[edit]

Please sign up on the mission page and watchlist the mission page and articles if you are interested in helping out. Geometry guy 15:33, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Kimu,

You're more experienced and may know of a way for Wikipedians to communicate privately, so I apologize in advance about a personal communication. (Feel free to delete it at your leisure.)

I've tried to circumspectly express a concern that the Expelled movie is so deceitful, it hurts the cause of people who believe in creationism. To me, it's like Stein said, "We can't make our point honestly, so we'll fall back on lying."

If they had simply stated their beliefs, I would have been supportive, but they chose not to do that. They opted for dishonesty.

Put another way, I hope to visit the Creation Museum some day, but in the meantime, I like to imagine they present in a positive manner with exhibits and evidence that says, "This is what we believe," instead of Expelled's approached of "This is what we want you to believe those awful God-hating Hitlerian scientists believe." (Notice the Creation Museum page is NOT listed as propaganda.)

Do you see the difference in what I'm saying?

blessed be, --UnicornTapestry (talk) 04:24, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Need to fix small error in blocked/can't edit article[edit]

There is a minor computational error on line 5 in the article on Water. The figure 10-21 (i.e. 10 to the 21st power) GRAMS should actually be 10-21 KILOGRAMS, or else 10-24 GRAMS.

I can't figure out how to contact someone who could actually (check up on this and) make this correction, since editing is denied. If I start a talk page, under this article, would this ever be seen, and the correction made? Because no-one is going to read all the talk pages on an article when they just need to see the article.

How could I get this correction made, and for future reference, how can this be done on a blocked article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rowellcf (talkcontribs) 00:23, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I forgot to respond to your message about game logs. I'll try and work on them, I'm not very good at it, but I'll probably take a couple days to gather sources and write a good one. I'm real busy as usual, but of course I'm going to write them eventually. conman33 (. . .talk) 21:41, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi RC. Sorry it's taken me some time to get back to you. I've had a plough (plow?) though your recent contributions this morning. On the whole everything looks good to me. I did notice there were a few times when you reverted vandalism but didn't warn the IP. It's minor but by adding the warning it hopefuly stops bad edits in their tracks or helps at WP:AIV if it gets that far to ensure they have been warned. But that really is a minor quibble as more often than not you do warn as well as revert. Other than that really positive work - really really positive. Far more impressive main space contributions than me! Pedro :  Chat  07:39, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

To tell you the truth I dont know, I think it was a mistake, I dont know what I was doing--Yankees10 06:27, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

OK, um, I didn't expect Chris to reply to that too, so since there are two of you I will reply here. First off, Chris, please note the time that article I cited was written. Second, Yankees10, no problem happens to me all the time. :) Kimu 14:28, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Actually, the reports of Law playing safety and corner were from right when the news broke. It's been in pretty much every article covering it. So the specific one I posted here is irrelevant, it'd be reported about his positions since the news came out.►Chris NelsonHolla! 18:01, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Um, Chris, what does that have to do with this post? Kimu 18:59, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Everything?►Chris NelsonHolla! 20:00, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Not necessarily, especially since we were discussing Yankees10 edit, no whether or not Law plays safety and corner. However, there is a thread on that topic on the the article's talk page. Kimu 20:28, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
I made this section ABOUT Law's position. If anything was out of place, it was Yankees10's post.►Chris NelsonHolla! 20:53, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
What?--Yankees10 22:51, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Holy freaking crap. This is not complicated. Here's a timeline:
  • I add Safety to Law's infobox and article because he was quoted as saying he'll do both for the Jets
  • RC reverted because he failed to read. His edit summary asked for someone to prove him wrong.
  • I came here to prove him wrong and did.
  • RC still failed to read apparently, reverted again and took it to the talk page, wasting everyone's time by simply not reading.
  • RC acted as if my comments here were out of place, despite the face I created this very topic. I pointed out that Yankees10 comments, if anyone's, were out of place and not my own since I made this topic.
  • RC still apparently has not read. God help us all.

from ^DevelopAll[edit]

Dear Nernst,

You may recognize me from the tonometry posts, specifically regarding Diaton tonometer.

I would like to bring to your attention that Diaton tonometer is a new and unique device that measures IOP through the eyelid - this is NOT a Proview Phosphine and works by a completely different method vs. what you have described and yet again corrected my adjustments to the post.

I have also looked over your other valuable contributions to wikipedia and am assured that this is a simple misunderstanding, vs. vandalism.

I would also like to voice that I am very familiar with this tonometry matter and a procedure and have been involved in a number of clinical trials related to this breakthrough technology.

I would like to respectfully request not to alter my addition being I have spent many hours to back up all the contents with clinical trials and other credible information.

If you would like to see this unique device in action I am inviting you to ARVO - Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology - where myself and a number of MEEI glaucoma specialists will be presenting our incredible findings based on our clinical trials.

If you would like, I would be glad to elaborate more and provide any other required information about Diaton tonometer.

I thank you in advance, ^DA —Preceding unsigned comment added by ^DevelopAll (talkcontribs) 06:42, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Kimu,

Thank you for your warm welcome when I first started editing.

I'm still getting used to wikipedia but am happy when I can make a useful contribution.

Thanks for passing on that last message. It would be useful if I could reply to the chap who sent it.

Can you tell me how to do this ?

All the best

GA Sweeps invitation[edit]

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are listed as a GA reviewer. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Information.svg Hello RC-0722! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 2,803 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Chris Widener - Find sources: "Chris Widener" – news · newspapers · books · scholar · HighBeam · JSTOR · free images · free news sources · The Wikipedia Library · NYT · WP reference

Grab some glory, and a barnstar[edit]

Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 15:17, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

How can I fix a major problem (not vandalism, probably some kind of incorrect code)[edit]

I was looking at the article on Tahiti, and in many paragraphs there is a lot of strange code of some kind that appears to be active links, but aren't correct... and which I don't understand and am reluctant to remove. It's obviously some kind of consistent error on the page, not vandalism. Can you take the time to look at that article and see what I mean, and give me a hint as to what all that is, and if it can be safely removed?? -- thanks for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rowellcf (talkcontribs) 20:33, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

remove irrelevant internal links?[edit]

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
