March 2008

The March 2008 issue of the WikiProject Good Articles Newsletter is ready! Dr. Cash (talk) 06:09, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

There is a problem with List of tallest buildings in Buffalo that I discovered when labeling Image:20080305 Ellicott Square Building.JPG. Main Seneca Building Main Seneca Building and Statler Towers Statler Towers] Statler Hotel are not the same building.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 20:44, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Riverfront Towers

Yes, fixed the tower numbers, Tower 200 and 300 were constructed before 100, if that makes sense.Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 02:34, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

List of companies in the United Arab Emirates

In reference to the Afd at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of companies in the United Arab Emirates which you commented on, I have now reformatted the list, removing entities which are not domiciled in the UAE (even though they may operate there), removing entries which are not companies (such as TV channels) and adding many using a few different sources. Please look at the list, and hopefully you can look at my comments in the Afd also. --Russavia (talk) 08:37, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Oregon

Hi, just saw all the work you did to get List of tallest buildings in Portland, Oregon to FL -- congrats on that! I see that you edit all over the world, but wonder if you might like to join us at WikiProject Oregon, we've got a pretty active and fun group of editors these days and could always use more! -Pete (talk) 14:44, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, we can always use the critical eye of another good editor -- special Oregon knowledge not required! One thing we're working on right now is trying to get Columbia River up to GA or FA class. We also always have a Collaboration of the Week going on. Jump in if you're so inclined! Thanks, -Pete (talk) 17:10, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Please respond to concerns that have been addressed at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of tallest buildings in Toronto. Gary King (talk) 01:22, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Updated. Gary King (talk) 02:20, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Could you please take a look at the nomination and mention on the page if Kelw (talk · contribs)'s Oppose is justified or not? I've posted a more thorough explanation on the page, and will copy it here: "::Just an FYI to everyone, this user has not been active on Wikipedia since March 9, 2008 (same day this message was posted here), so I have been unable to get any more information on why this person has chosen to oppose this list. I assume that the list now meets style guidelines, considering that raime (talk · contribs) below has given his support to the list and is a member of the WikiProject Skyscrapers." Notability of buidlings

Hello Raime, I didn't know where to ask you this question, at the end decided to use your talk page. You are very active in building-related contributions, so I thought I'd ask you. How do you determine whether a particular building is notable enough to have an article here at Wikipedia? For example, why is Park Plaza Condominiums notable while the Albuquerque Regional Medical Center isn't? Are there any links to related discussions or guidelines that I could read? Thanks, Crzycheetah 06:47, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

FL-Class for Wikipedia:Version 1.0 assessment table

Raime, I just noticed you reverted my edit at Talk:List of tallest buildings in Boston stating that you want the Boston list to be included in automatically generated 1.0 worklists. Well, it is possible that you don't know this yet, but those assessment tables include both list-class and FL-class pages, see this example. After changing the class, you should wait a couple of days before the bot updates those tables.--Crzycheetah 09:59, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Dubai templates and ACID

Hello Raime. You have done a good job on the Albuquerque and New Orleans lists. Keep up the good work! I have a few questions related to WikiProject Dubai. Back in January, you mentioned creating a template page (similar to Wikipedia:WikiProject Engineering/Templates) for WP:DUBAI. You later said we should wait until the merging is complete. Well, all of them except for Emirates Towers have been merged. That article will take a lot more effort and time than the others because I want to ensure the merged article is of high quality. I was also hoping for more discussion about the organization of the article. So, do you think it would be okay to create that template page? What about the stub templates ({{Dubai-stub}}, {{Dubai-struct-stub}} and {{Dubai-transport-stub}})? I think it may also be time to set up that much-needed Dubai Article Creation and Improvment Drive. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 22:16, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

The format of the engineering page is okay. I do not want to copy it, but it is a smart idea. I am sure we can make small changes to alter the appearance. As for the stub templates, we should at least propose the creation of {{Dubai-struct-stub}}, or maybe just {{UAE-struct-stub}}, considering how many buildings are found under Category:United Arab Emirates stubs. You must have high goals; I was thinking that we might be able to nominate the Dubai article for GA if User:AreJay keeps up the good work of expanding the article and creating other Dubai-related articles. But, if you want to go for the gold, I would be happy to assist. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 02:45, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
I created Wikipedia:WikiProject Dubai/Templates. I do not know how the coloring codes work, so I left it the same as the Engineering template page. By looking at this user talk page, I can see that you have some knowledge of those codes. I was thinking we should change it, but it is up to you since I do not know how. I also added {{WikiProject Dubai navbox}} to the template page, but it is "crushing" the table. Do you have any solutions? And do you think the link to the template page should have been put in the "Templates" section of the navbox (where I put it) or in the "Main pages" section? Thanks. New Orleans tallest buildings

Thanks for nominating List of tallest buildings in New Orleans for Featured List, and for your edits over the past week. You beat me to the nomination by a day or two, I had planned on doing it this weekend. Let's hope it goes well. VerruckteDan (talk) 00:57, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

UAE Noticeboard

Hi Raime, I've been feeling for some time that a noticeboard for UAE related topics would help centralize discussions and remove inconsistencies/redundancies in UAE related articles. I've been noticing the number of inconsistencies in the Abu Dhabi article and several other UAE-related articles and I think a central noticeboard along the lines of the Australia or India noticeboards would help channel content around the UAE.

A noticeboard is different from a WikiProject in that a noticeboard has no explicit mission-statement other than to provide a central forum for users interested in collaborating on UAE-related issues. I just wanted to get your thoughts on the project, as a regular contributor to UAE-related articles. With the Dubai WikiProject, there has been improvement in the quality of Dubai related articles. However, articles on the other emirates seem to be in bad shape. The noticeboard won't attempt to correct these issues, but will provide a central forum and hopefully, promote collaboration among users interested in UAE articles. It can also serve as a central point to arbitrate edit-wars or provide assistance to other editors (Arabic translations, article assessments, peer reviews, etc). One of the ideas that I had in mind for the noticeboard was to create a set of standard guidelines around structuring articles (standard structure for cities, emirates, locations etc). Your thoughts on setting up such a noticeboard are greatly appreciated. Thanks AreJay (talk) 18:48, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Building/Structure

Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago) opened its hotel in January when only 52 floors were completed. Is it a building or a structure?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 00:43, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

What is the meaning of "continually" habitable? Suppose people start taking permanent residence and the building is only 80-floors completed, is it then continually habitable?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 04:34, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

[1][2][3] I just uploaded an Image from the same site you did for the Wachovia Corprate Center. I don't know how to fix the copyright issue, so could you do it? Alaskan assassin (talk) 21:24, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Okay, thanks for telling me that about the pictures. I guss the last two I uploaded aren't good, but the one of 121 West Trade should be all right to use. Right here[4], in the copyright page under Use of the website it says

the materials may be used solely by you for your own personal informational, educational or other non-commercial purposes

so shouldent this be all right. And about the Featured list, i'll join but i'm still new so I don't know if i can do much. Thanks. Alaskan assassin (talk) 23:33, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Is this all right?

Yeah I guss that was plagirism. Sorry, I'll try ad put them in my own words. Alaskan assassin (talk) 02:40, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

cutoff point

Do you think we should chang Charlotte's tallest buildings cutoff point? Maybe raise it to 350ft or 400ft? Alaskan assassin (talk) 03:54, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm a fan of your work.

Would you adopt me? :o) —Preceding unsigned comment added by DaronDierkes (talkcontribs) 08:43, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

follow-up

I really appreciate your help. I changed my page a bit. That image trick is exactly what I was trying to do actually. Thank you.

Could you look over Ocean Towers for me? I'm really confused about it. You see, I made a page for Ocean Financial Centre, because that is the name of the new building that is being constructed (in singapore) that I was curious about. There were two towers originally (constructed long ago) and one of them has been in the process of being deconstructed for the past few months. In its place the new Ocean Financial Centre will be built. I walked into the lobby of Ocean Towers yesterday and you can clearly see how the lobby was meant to service both buildings, there is now an escalator that leads to a big hole... So as I understand it, Ocean Towers is the correct name for the two buildings. They are both owned by Keppel. That the new one is going to be called Ocean Financial Centre seems to be of little significance other than as a link, similar to other tower groups.

I'm going to try to rearrange the page a bit, could you council me?

Also, a separate page would be fine, how does one do that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by DaronDierkes (talkcontribs) 07:01, 24 March 2008 (UTC) I always forget to signDaronDierkes (talk) 07:16, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

constructing oceans

Thats a lot of stuff. I'll try to see what I can do today. I separated the two articles. I'll do all that other stuff soon. I'm still insistant that they did, and probably will again, share a lobby.

About my Cities of East Asia article, population figures are always different in different places, so I don't know what to do with it. The rankings are pretty flexible. Could you tell me about the ranking system you are using for your Skyline ranks? I don't understand why some of them are equal. They sure don't look equal. As a patriot of St. Louis I feel a little indignant that Indianapolis is list above my fair home (abyssmal as they both are). St. Louis and Baltimore always suffer in such rankings you know. St. Louis succeeded from its county which makes it rank high on metro population indexes but terribly on incorporated area indexes. Likewise, all the money in the city fled to the county and the new downtown is spread in a ring around the city. Places like Clayton, Missouri really hold much of the 21st century skyline development, everything in the actual city has been relegated to history and crime. :o( That's beside the point though, why are some ranked equally? What is the criteria?

Looking at the municipalities of St. Louis County... woo, there sure are some disparities there. I guess I'll get to that in time too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DaronDierkes (talkcontribs) 06:12, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok, i give up, what happened to the lower half of the page on the Ocean Financial Centre page? Yah, so hard. DaronDierkes (talk) 08:14, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

List of tallest buildings in Minneapolis

How do I create this articule. Everytime I try to create it redirects me to the one about Minnosota. Alaskan assassin (talk) 01:29, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations! List of tallest buildings in Dubai was selected as the fourth List of the Month. It will be in the running of the List of the Year at the end of the Year. Also, It will be recognized as a list of the day twice. Let me know if you have any date preferences before the March 26th.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTD) 07:07, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

New Pictures

[5] Can you get permission from this webmaster to use his images? I'm still new and I don't won't to do it wrong. They could really improve Charlottes skyscraper articles. He already gave me permission to upload them to wikipedia but thats not engoth. This is his email address: utcharlotte@yahoo.com Alaskan assassin (talk) 02:37, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I am back

I am back from the land of the exams, homework and reading spam. Looking at all the building lists out there, it seems like the Charlotte list should be the next one to promote to FL. The user above has done some great work in creating the articles, but I think those stubs may face notability issues. Besides that, what other lists could be improved to FL-status? And how about the skyline rankings? Do you still want to move that into the mainspace? (Not finished with the user page yet). Cheers. Trance addict - Tiesto - Above and Beyond 05:15, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

What next?

I made articles for all charlotte buildings completed, like that guy above me said. I dident make one for the approved/purposed/ under construction ones, because they will almost defintly face notability issus. So whats next for charlotte befor feautured list status. Alaskan assassin (talk) 22:05, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I went ahead and uploaded that image[6]. I think it is alot better than the one that repersents Charlotte right now. I also started TWELVE Hotels & Residences at Third Ward. About one Charlotte, I can't seem to find it on List of tallest buildings in Charlotte or Emporis. I rember seeing it though. Also Charlotte is on the verge of Feautured list! Alaskan assassin (talk) 02:15, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

When I e-mailed UTCharlotte it took me a few days to get a response too. After Charlotte I think we should do Minneapolis. I started the article but it was just a quick copy and paste job from the tallest in Minnesota. Its is probaly the worst list of cities in the US right now.
