Welcome[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, Red Deadeye/Archive 1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Creating Articles w/ Categories[edit]

Good work creating new articles. When you create things, it helps tremendously to assign them to an accurate category (see WP:CG for info). If you're really not sure about categories, at least assign your new articles a stub category (see WP:SC for info). By assigning a category, you help make sure your new articles don't get lost as 'orphans' that are not associated with related topics. Feco

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Use your own words, please[edit]

Unless explicitly stated otherwise, most text on most Websites is copyrighted, so please add information to Wikipedia in your own words, instead of copy&pasting sentences and other blocks of text from other sites (EG Charley Trippi). Thanks. Niteowlneils 22:03, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cool. It's not like it's an uncommon newcomer mistake. You might want to do new write-ups for Charley Trippi/Temp, John Henry Johnson/Temp, Earl "Dutch" Clark/Temp, William Roy "Link" Lyman/Temp, Tommy McDonald/Temp, Willie Davis (American football)/Temp, Jim Langer/Temp, George Connor (football player)/Temp, and Ollie Matson/Temp. You might also want to go thru the rest of the football player articles you created, as some are pretty brief with the pasted text removed. Niteowlneils 02:16, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

WVU Mountaineers Football[edit]

Thanks for making the new article WVU Mountaineers Football. It looks super. The issue had recently been brought up on the WVU article Talk page that the athletics information is pretty out of place with the rest of the article. I had planned on making a new article just for WVU Athletics. I'm thinking of renaming your new page just West Virginia University Mountaineers and moving all of the athletics information currently on the main WVU article to that page. We could then write a few paragraphs for the athletics section of the main page with a link to the new WVU Mountaineers page. This would be in line with most other universities. (For example, there's a Syracuse University page as well as a seperate Syracuse University Orange page that talks about all the school's athletics.)

So to sum up....your page is great, but would you mind if we move all the current athletics information on the WVU main page to that page, and then renamed it West Virginia University Mountaineers instead of WVU Mountaineers Football? --ScottyBoy900Q 03:11, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome, keep ypur eye on it over the next few days and if you see anything you would like to edit, please do so. You sound like you know your WVU stuff (I'm a grad student there currently). --ScottyBoy900Q 03:29, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I shifted the article to the new name of West Virginia University Mountaineers. Check it out and tell me what you think. Also check out the main WVU page now to see the linking to this article. Please feel free to add whatever else you see appropriate. Also, just in case you weren't sure, you can sign all your posts very easily by typing in four tildes like this: ~~~~. That way your name and a date and time are automatically posted for you. I don't know if you're new to wikipedia, but drop me a line if you want to know how to do something. Another thing some people get weird about is new users not using the "Show Preview" button. You won't have to go back in and edit over and over again if you click on this button. It pretty much just shows you a preview of the page with your edits that you can check out to see if youre happy with before actually clicking the "Save Page" button. You may already know this but I just wanted to throw it out there. --ScottyBoy900Q 04:01, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I figured "notable" was more appropriate than "memorable." After all...people could look at some of those players as non-memorable. Better to keep it on the objective side. --ScottyBoy900Q 02:58, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mountaineers table[edit]

I'll play around with it over the next few days...not sure if its needed seeing as all the information covered in the table is also found on the page. In my opinion the template on the Wildcats page is wayyyyyyyyy too big. i'll play around with it though. --ScottyBoy900Q 06:40, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted edits on WVU Important games[edit]

Sorry, had to do that. The way that has been set up, the losses are not put up, and trying to put the positive up.

If you want to discuss this, go right ahead. PYLrulz 10:09, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You did an excellent job expanding the article with some well-written content. Thank you :) —Disavian (talk/contribs) 06:00, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Milton Knox Jr.[edit]

The article Milton Knox Jr. has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki 20:11, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's athlete, not athelete. Two syllables?

And what's the point of the word 'current' on your page when you say "current favorite sports teams"? If they change, then you're not even a fan dude.Chris Nelson 03:55, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Troy Smith. Patrick White[edit]

Likewise, your opinion, and it's great that you're a fan, that Patrick White "is becoming one of the greatest QBs in West Virginia University history" is not only POV but goes against Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. Remember Major Owens (the Mountaineer, not the politician)? Great college player, hugely undistinguished pro. This is a list that includes the likes of Jerry West. We can bring in an Admin to make the call, if you'd like; I really wouldn't imagine they'd put a current player on a list like that.--69.22.254.111 03:47, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, and I completely agree -- I hadn't gone through every name, and if somebody wins the Heisman, that's an objective yardstick. I'll take Slaton out. As they say in football and journalism both: Great catch! --69.22.254.111 13:25, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, John. I can see from your edits that you're a knowledgeable editor on Mountaineer sports - and "a good sport" as well! - 69.22.254.111 19:26, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chad Johnston[edit]

Good start to the article, but a lot of other editors will see a college player who never made the NFL or any post-season awards lists. I'm a Mountaineer myself, born in Philippi and raised in Morgantown, so I'm not gonna touch it. Just don't be too surprised if someone else nominates it for deletion. Game rosters link[edit]

I don't think the site being under construction is relevant, I think no matter what this link should not be here. It is noncommercial advertising and I believe against WP:EL. I've been removing it and I've corresponded with the owner of the site, he refuses to acknowledge it is against policy. Please keep an eye on this page like I am to prevent the douche from advertising his site. Anyone can make a roster for a game, it doesn't mean they should be able to advertise it on the game's article.Chris Nelson 19:38, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help. The guy is a real dick. I've explained to him why it shouldn't be there, and all he's done is say it's free (irrelevant), call me a fag and tell me how much money he makes. Dude's a retard.Chris Nelson 19:48, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way he just added it back yet again. Can you take it off? I'd be violating WP:3RR if I did right now.Chris Nelson 19:50, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. I've noticed he has two IPs doing it but I'm sure they're connected. The last one he's used will be violating 3RR with one more edit.Chris Nelson 19:52, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah he's the owner, Brian Kaldenberg. He's the bottom of the site.Chris Nelson 20:05, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. By the way it looks like you have three edits lately, so I guess you're done for a while. Don't want you to get in trouble for 3RR.Chris Nelson 20:08, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He's back, and he's doing it again.Chris Nelson 18:07, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jordan[edit]

I reverted your edit to the Jordan article, as we're trying to keep the size down on that article and also that kind of information belongs on the Bobcats article. Cheers! Aaron Bowen 06:33, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, he's so famous if we reported everything that made the news involving him the article would be huge. It's already pretty long. Aaron Bowen 20:16, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

College player notability[edit]

I've noticed you have recently created several new WVU player articles. I normally wouldn't want to do anything to dissuade new articles/content, but I'd suggest you think about whether players are actually currently notable when you are considering creating an article for them. College players are not per se notable; even when a scholarship player for a FBS school or even a BCS or perennial Top 25 school. While the WP:CFB was previously unable to come to a consensus about player/coach notability guidelines, I think common sense can pretty easily cover it. Clearly any player who wins a national award, is on the official watchlist or is highly ranked national statistics should have an article. Players that are named to all-conference teams or win a conference weekly award are pretty obvious candidates. Those who have been a starter for at least a season and have legimate pro prospects (as a senior) can be justifiable. Some players have some unique factor (famous father, like Chris Long) that can make them notable too. But you need to seriously consider whether a RS-Soph who is just a "candidates for backup receiver" (i.e. Dorrell Jalloh), not too mention a somewhat-controversial recruit (Pat Lazear), is worthy of an article. Either player may become notable in the future and then need an article, but is it appropriate now?

Btw, one editing tip regarding refs - if you use a name param like <ref name="XYZ"> the first time you use a reference and then use <ref name="XYZ" '''/'''> each time you reuse the ref, it only be shown once, rather than multiple times in the listing created by <references />. HTH, AUTiger ʃ talk/work 22:26, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's cool; I was just a little concerned you might be working through the entire roster. :-) BTW, I'm looking forward to the series with WVU and going to the game in Morgantown; my friends and I like to roadtrip for away games at new places. Hopefully for us, White and Slayton will leave early for the NFL after this season. War Eagle! AUTiger ʃ talk/work 01:28, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
2008 is in Auburn, 2009 in Morgantown. Should be a good matchup and definitely should be prime-time TV games. AUTiger ʃ talk/work 23:27, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am systematically going through several of your articles and nominating them for deletion. Please create articles only when there is notability on the subject. A current WVU lineman, for example, is just not notable. Timneu22 (talk) 11:53, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pat Lazear[edit]

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Pat Lazear, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. I'm sorry, but I disagree. A starting safety job in college football (yes, even West Virgina) and a big play in one game doesn't establish notability. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 06:32, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Boogie Allen, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Boogie Allen. Schmitt, Slaton, White, etc.[edit]

When you edit articles you don't need to add wiki links for things such as Syracuse, U of Maryland, or ppl was well, more than once in an article. Like I just worked on Schmitt's article and it had TWO Maryland wiki links, in back-to-back sentences. That's not needed. Also, individual dates don't need to be wikilinked, unless it's important such as, birth, death, birth of a child, marriage, etc. The only reason I'm tellin' you is because you edit those artiles, more than anyone else, even me, and I'm buddies with Owen, lol. --Crash Underride 23:48, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Boo McLee[edit]

A tag has been placed on Boo McLee requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. anabus_maximus (Talk to me) 01:18, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
