RPI Traditions[edit]

I see you have put a lot of work into the article RPI Traditions. This article is impressive in it's length, but I have some major concerns about it. The main concern I have is that it isn't encyclopaedic in style. The other major problem is that it doesn't have proper references, and some of the information may be difficult to reference properly. I can help you make it encyclopaedic, but it will require some overall. As an RPI grad, I would like to see this page made respectable. We will also need to clean up spurious information that aren't really related to traditions.

I would like to merge some of the information into a new article called "RPI History". I have been thinking that eventually such an article should be made, since RPI has a rich and well-documented history. Many of the major universities have such articles. (see for example History of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.) I've decided what I'm going to do is to throw together the framework for an article called History of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. That will be the place for information about building histories and notable figures.(apart from articles on the buildings themselves) Since I personally don't have a lot of time to work on it, I will try to get some other people involved in helping out improve the article. I will merge the history-type information from your article into it.

Some of the information in this article is redundant, especially with some of the buildings. The Green Building has it's own article, for instance. I will merge that information over.

Also, I would like to copy your draft over to the "Not the Rensselaer Wiki" ( However, there seems to be a problem with the wiki now, and I'm not able to edit any pages there. I've contacted the owner, hopefully he will look into it.

Feel free to respond here. Further discussion about the page should go on the talk page.

License tagging for File:RPI Heros.Amos Eaton.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:RPI Heros.Amos Eaton.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 01:05, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Better source request for File:RPI Heros.Amos Eaton.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:RPI Heros.Amos Eaton.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:55, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
