Recent comments on Mouse Featured Picture[edit]

I proposed this logo concept in December, 2005. The winning proposal
FEATURED PICTURE: Computer mouse
FEATURED PICTURE: Root canal

Sorry that the FP debate got a little testy and thanks for changing your vote. I started working on Wikipedia images and articles during my paternity leave for my first daughter back in 2005. It's mostly been a positive experience - especially my featured images and designing the Wikispecies logo (right).

The root canal pix in particular took a boat load of work as I had dentists vetting the thing! And I very nearly lost my credit for the wikispecies logo because I didn't bird dog the process and another contributor made some small improvements and started asserting authorship.

So you'll have to forgive my testiness here. I've seen roughly 50% of my images erased or removed from articles. 25% were shoddy or factually incorrect but the remainder were perfectly good and ONE EDITOR just took them off. You see - when an image is removed from an article it is very easily forgotten even when it makes a substantial contribution.

Best wishes and with due respect, jk (talk) 12:25, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:N items.jpg)[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading Image:N items.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:15, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

NowCommons: File:Holloway Circus Tower.jpg[edit]

File:Holloway Circus Tower.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Holloway Circus Tower -Birmingham -UK.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Holloway Circus Tower -Birmingham -UK.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 21:44, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

CD Image[edit]

Hiya, just wanna say thanks for uploading the image of the CD diffracting fluorescent light. It's very interesting to see the spectrum, and I never realised you could get one so clear from a CD Alecjw (talk) 20:23, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 05:24, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

What the hell happened? There is no reason why it should have been removed from its article. Looking at the article's history, it was only removed from there because it was deleted. I'll just reupload then. Reguiieee (talk) 19:12, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Homerton College Faculty.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Homerton College Faculty.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 13:06, 8 January 2011 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:06, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:N items.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:N items.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:39, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
