AnythingLoan[edit]

Hello, you deleted my wiki page about FirstAgain and the AnythingLoan. We are a relatively new company but are similar in nature to CapitalOne and E-Loan, so I tried to leverage the information that was provided by these users. Albeit our history is brief, it will expand with time. Is there a compromise that we can come to? (BTW, FirstAgain is a user name I set up but forgot the password) AnythingLoan 00:27, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alabaster Music LLC[edit]

Hi, you deleted my wiki page on Alabaster Music LLC due to copyright infringement from alabaster.musicnation.com... except I wrote all the material on the internet that refers to the band Alabaster, which means.. this wasn't copyright infringement at all, I can't infringe on myself.. -Jen Miller, Alabaster Music LLC, jen@ilovealabaster.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.231.45.249 (talk) 03:09, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE Hiya[edit]

Hi, I am just replying from the message you left on my userpage (see below:)

Nice job with the userpage :) I just wanted to let you know, though, that shared accounts aren't really allowed on WP. Do you reckon you guys could get 2 separate accounts to edit instead? Cheers, ~ Riana 13:16, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, thanks for signing our user page!! And your nice comment was great to hear too! I was just wondering, about the seperate accounts part. How is it that we are not allowed to have a shared account? I would be very grateful if you could reply, thanks!!

Thanks for the information!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amosyjos (talkcontribs) 13:30, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mail from Amosyjos[edit]

I hope you don't mind, but we took the background and page layout from you - but don't be sad, its a good thing that people copy you! Anyway, thanks and all!! By the way, check out our page and discussions! Oh, and we also took the wiki hug thing, because I though it was really cool! Please DO check out our page, because no one has yet, and you can christen it! Thanks, Amosyjos

Wikihug[edit]

A Wikihug
A Wikihug to you for having to deal with Vandalism on your User page. At least it shows you're doing the right thing, even if the Vandals don't appreciate it. — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 19:00, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. ~ Riana 03:29, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the duplicated effort[edit]

At the time I posted the incident report, there was no tag on the user's page, so I did not realize he had already been banned. (Incidentally, you might want to contact me off Wiki, through Myspace or other means...) best, ChrisStansfield Contribs 04:17, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, no worries. I intentionally didn't tag it. Feel free to contact me via e-mail if you need to. ~ Riana 04:26, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One more thing....[edit]

A rose for Alison and Riana.

Riana, please do one more thing for me. You told me that you can delete diff version of my talk page. I will be very happy if you delete these five diff version of my talk page. Thank you. RS1900 04:24, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any reason why I should, they do not contain any personal information. You're effectively getting me to delete your whole talk history, which is exactly what I refused to do, for no reason. The PI is gone. I think you should move on. ~ Riana 04:29, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to delete my talk page. That was not a clever thing to do. I didn't understood the rules of Wikipedia properly. So, if you remove the above 5 diff version of my talk page, I can move on. Please do it. RS1900 04:35, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We don't erase evidence of mistakes. We just forgive and forget. I'm not going to do it, please don't ask me again. ~ Riana 04:36, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I just hope that it will not bite me in the future. And, Riana, do you speak in Hindi? You are an Australian, right? RS1900 04:42, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's a rather irrelevant and somwhat personal question. It's really none of your concern, so please don't ask - Alison 04:48, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that. I also speak in Hindi. Anyway, both of you have helped me. So, here is a little reward for both of you. A rose. RS1900 04:58, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks RS. I live in Australia and speak Hindi very badly. ~ Riana 05:00, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe. No, my mum's pretty cool. It's the rest of the family you have to watch out for. ~ Riana 07:30, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Probably nothing compared to my family. If possible, I'll move to the other side of the country to get away from my parents... "No... You got 94% in the exam. Not good enough!!! How else are you going to get the Nobel Prize?" That should give you a taste... —DarkFalls talk 07:40, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, no worries, been there, done that ;) My TER in Year 12 was 96.5... you can't imagine the crap I got for not getting full marks in everything, hehe :D ~ Riana 07:43, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well I'm definitely not learning Hindi....:) --DarkFalls talk 09:41, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
*American walks in, reads thread, gets confused* I know nothing about the Australian educational system... what's a TER? And is this an HSC? I'll explain U.S. education in return if any of y'all need me to. ;) Pinball22 17:52, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A TER is a tertiary entrance rank. It's a very confusing process which I won't bother explaining :) I never understood SATs and stuff, so we're in the same boat here :) ~ Riana 18:02, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I read Tertiary Entrance Rank... you weren't kidding about it being very confusing! The SAT is just a straightforward multiple-choice test of math and verbal skills (it now includes a writing component that wasn't there when I took it... 16 years ago... *suddenly feels old*). Pinball22 12:47, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well Riana's actually pretty lucky with TER. In the HSC, you forget some stuff, or muck up a long question, and your planned career goes crashing down, regardless of your past results... Lucky, I did good in the end papers... --DarkFalls talk 12:55, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my...I also read the Tertiary Entrance Rank page. It looks like it would be a better measure of the overall ability as a student (compared to our system), but whoever designed the system had a love for thoroughness at the expense of simplicity. Then again, having been a Florida student just before the turn of the century, I wound up taking the HSCT, the FCAT, the PSAT, the SAT (twice), and the ACT (and then the GMAT after college). I would think a single system would be more efficient than five different tests, even if the PSAT was optional. The Dark 19:06, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Riana,

The warring user that led to the page's protection has departed. She blanked her user/talk page and left a note on mine (seen here) saying she would no longer edit the page. Can you unprotect the page or should I go to WP:RPP and request unprotection? Thanks!--Dali-Llama 00:41, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet?[edit]

Hi Riana,

I'm quite worried about my IP address being used by an outside soucre (address is: 222.153.78.138). I'd just like to know what a sock puppet is and whether my ip address is possibly being used by an outside source as I did not make the said edits that my address has been cited for. I thought it was my brother but he is strongly denying any involvement. Help please!

Comment from ANI[edit]

Riana, I appericate you wanting User:JzG and/or can't say it to "respond to some of the" concerns addressed by other users on the ANI post, but personally I just want it to go away. I see no good that can come from it, other than me getting into more trouble, more people being mad at me, people getting into arguements and what not. While I do appericate you asking for concerns to be addressed, could we just let this one be archived, hopefully never to be seen again, please? I would greatly appericate it. Though, if you do want to concerns addressed, I will understand. Many Thanks and Take Care...NeutralHomer T:C 09:58, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, sure, if you say so. I think that this goes beyond the dispute between the two of you, though. Seems to me that the rules are for some and not others, as long as you have friends in high places, and that saddens and frustrates me. ~ Riana 15:33, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It does me as well, but I don't want to see people getting upset over it and I feel if it were to be addressed, the backlash of concerns being addressed would see me with in indef block, just like my 24 hour block prior. Would I like to see the users in question address the many concerns you, I, and other users have, yes...but I also feel it would come back on in a negative way if they were to get in trouble, so I feel that it is best to let it go and sadly, deal with it.
Again, if you would like to ask that the concerns addressed by other users and yourself by answered by User:JzG and can't say it, then I will understand. - NeutralHomer T:C 22:56, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

e-mail[edit]

Hi Riana, I've sent you a brief note. Kyoko 15:09, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Kyoko. That sort of e-mail takes a bit of time to reply to, so I hope you don't mind if I reply within the next few days and possibly not the next few hours :) ~ Riana 15:25, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine, no rush. And now for something completely different..., I'd like your opinion of these two vandalism warnings of mine: User talk:12.20.111.243 (after 1, 2, 3) and User talk:172.203.13.197 (after this edit). Think I was too bitey? I normally use the "test" warning for simple gibberish, and use stronger warnings for what I see as more serious vandalism such as personal attacks, blanking of sections, etc. You can let me know either here or privately, I don't care. --Kyoko 16:17, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like just the right level of strictness to me :) ~ Riana 16:20, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. Doesn't look too BITEy at all - Alison 16:23, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An idea that I have[edit]

Good morning (GMT -7 but it might be real early morning where you are)!
This is an idea I had and acted on; you don't have to use it but I think it would help: I created User:Riana/Age for you which is based on my User:Springeragh/age which I stole from User:Sceptre/Age. The thinking behind it is since it's automatic—look at the code—so you don't have to manually change your age after every birthday. If you don't like it you can just delete it. :) —  $PЯINGεrαgђ  16:22, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, no, that's pretty cool :) Put it on my userpage, Spring, I'm lazy. :P ~ Riana 16:33, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

VAIN Policy and "The Office" Production.[edit]

Wasn't the creator or writer/producer asked to write about himself and his work on site? "The Office (NBC)"? A fact checker been hired or is it just bot undoes still? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gzlfb (talkcontribs) 17:28, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Server Lag[edit]

Hey Riana, I am not sure who you let know about this but currently the server lag is up to 2654 seconds or about 44.2333333 minutes, which I am guessing isn't good. I am not sure who to message with this information, so I am letting you know because I know you would know what to do and who to message. :) Take Care....NeutralHomer T:C 12:59, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Haha. Or BetacommandBot maybe? :P Yeah, they're discussing it on IRC, I suppose they're trying to resolve it there ~ Riana 13:07, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's 3400 something now... Either some virus has plagued the servers, a bot has gone out of control, Deskana tried one of his server-suicide renames, or the entire history of Wikipedia is being oversighted...This is the biggest lag I've ever seen... --DarkFalls talk 13:15, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Halibutt[edit]

Hello Riana! If you allowed email access to you, I would have sent you a note instead of this comment, because I hate to put these matters on the public forum (so to speak). Since you took the trouble to monitor and concern yourself with Renata3's comment on Halibutt's talk page recently, I'll ask you to take a look at User: Piotrus's talk page under the heading Narutowicz, and to comment on Halibutt's very uncivil behavior. If you will, please make your response there. Dr. Dan 18:15, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do allow e-mail access - you can just use the WP interface. ~ Riana 15:46, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also I find Halibutt's comments there nowhere near as offensive as 'why don't you have the balls to leave'. I'm an outside party in this, as clarification. ~ Riana 16:04, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but the comment you seemed to be focused on is simply vulgar. The one you seemed to miss, borders on psychopathic:

"The only remedies I know are to either kill the crazed chef (but I'd have to do it alone as there's nobody else to see the problem)"

Maybe you should reread this weird public exchange on an administrator's talk page. Too bad that administrator did not attempt to put a stop to it. Strange that you found R's comment so offensive that you needed to comment on it, and the other exchange, unchallenged. Dr. Dan 18:07, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I find it strange that you're trying to teach me how to interpret comments. Halibutt's comment seems bitter and disappointed, yes, but not overtly trollish. I really doubt he's actually going to kill someone... the vulgarity of Renata's comment didn't bother me, it was the tone in which it was delivered. ~ Riana 06:45, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Riana, just thought you'd like to know I just listed a guy you previously blocked for WP:3RR on WP:AN3 here. You might want to take a look. He also posted what I'm guessing is a retaliatory WP:WQA against me here.

Oh, and about that Ludovicapipa user, I ended up doing a WP:RFC/U that's here. Took me forever after I sat down and went through all the personal attacks. Lol.--Dali-Llama 05:31, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Outkast logo.jpg)[edit]

⚠
Thanks for uploading Image:Outkast logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Ilse@ 10:59, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, only re-uploaded that because someone had marked a previous upload with {{badname}}. Deleted now because I don't think it really fits with WP:NONFREE. ~ Riana 14:49, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WADL_(TV) Again[edit]

Seems a new user, Cavern Kowalski (talk · contribs) has reverted the page to the edit that Diversitygroup (talk · contribs) made. I suspect it may be a sockpuppet, but s/he has only made one edit so far, that being to the WADL_(TV), so it may be too early to know for sure. --DBishop1984 14:44, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uh huh! OK, I'll keep an eye on it. ~ Riana 14:46, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Number two... at what point should a checkuser be needed? Could be a meatpuppet, too. Had some anons earlier that reverted after hearing about it on detroit public radio. --DBishop1984 15:09, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
and three and four caught by VOAbot. The history comment would indicate it's the same person. I'm not sure how to handle the supoosed "20,000 people monitoring" that "they" have. --DBishop1984 15:27, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is getting out of hand. I've protected the article until something can be figured out. Are these people's concerns legitimate? Let's not just brush them off because of some conflict of interest - we all have conflicts of interest, after all. I'm a little active on OTRS and we have real problems voiced due to what would be termed COI on Wikipedia. I'm not dismissing your work but is anything they are saying worth taking into consideration? ~ Riana 15:35, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Several people voiced in the first incident saying that the edit was very promotional, which it was. It looked very much like an advertisment and had plenty of red links and just bad editing. Also the local radio station was calling for meat puppets to help revert to the bad edit.
He mentioned adding the president's name and the programming to the article, which I noted on the talk page, we'll see if they respond at all. It could be that just adding that will fix things. Past efforts haven't been fruitful on discussions with either user. --DBishop1984 15:50, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Not sure how to handle this one. He appeared to be making vandalism edits to User:CME46 [2] He claimed, both in the ES there, and in his own talk page that he's the same user as CME46, and that CME46 was incorrectly blocked for being a sockpuppet.[3] Now, the problem is I thought that blocked users could edit their own Userpages. (I know for sure they can edit their own talk pages), unless they are protected. But the userpage can't be protected or DNEDS couldn't edit it. Maybe I'm wrong. So, if we WP:AGF that he is that user, can't edit the page as that user, then we look deeper and find why that user is blocked.[4] So, it's User:Andrew Lin evading a block. The problem is, on that user's talk page he is very anti-soda-drinking. It seems from the evidence that if DNEDS is not who he says he is, he's vandalising User:CME46. If he is who he says he is, he's likely User:Andrew Lin avoiding his ban, again. What think you? — Timotab Timothy (not Tim dagnabbit!) 19:25, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

I am user:PIO unlogged for technical problem and my request is for impossible agreement with ill-famed POV warrior DIREKTOR in Istrian exodus. DIREKTOR makes only disruption removing my integrations in edit warring with a lot of reverts against a dozen of other editors: you can control related hystory and discussion. I request block DIREKTOR for disruption and long edit warring as troll's manner: DIREKTOR is involved in many edit wars because he started with POV edits, you can read user talk:DIREKTOR#Istria. DIREKTOR insults me in many messages and I reported him for 3RR violation; in alternative you can total protect article: umpteenth full protection caused by flamer DIREKTOR!!!! You can protect in actual version against DIREKTOR's vandalism of disruption for a long time: I suggest two months, few days are useless because he would likes escalation of edit warring. Regards and best wishes. user:PIO, 16:27 11 September 2007

Block of the Istrian exodus article[edit]

This block will not end the dispute, I'm afraid. While I realise I am an involved party here, it is nevertheless a certain objective fact that the other side in this conflict (namely, User:PIO, in his favourite IP "form") refused repeated requests for discussion on the article even when he faced a tiresome edit war if he refused. It is therefore highly unlikely that he is about to start cooperating now, when his version is temporarily enforced by the block. I also doubt that he is going to give up on this, since he has patiently waited for the longer semi-block to expire.
Once again, even though I realise I am an involved party, I feel I must reccomend the reinstatement of the old prudent semi-block as the only means to secure an end to this edit war. DIREKTOR 09:44, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That actually sounds to me like a really great way to prolong the edit war, since you'll be allowed to edit as well. I cannot really help the version the page is locked in right now. I suggest you wait out the protection for now and force some discussion on the talkpage, and then if it's just as bad after the protection expires I'll reprotect. But please try to reach some sort of resolution. ~ Riana 14:03, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's just it: its not up to me. One glance at the talkpage of the Istrian exodus article will show my numerous efforts to get that guy User:PIO to engage in civil dicussion. He refused, and then insulted me in various ways before continuing with the edit-war, of course. I really don't know what to do, actually. He insists on pushing his, and only his version (full of historical errors). DIREKTOR 14:23, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what you're saying (if you look up a few sections he's made a similar complaint about you). The options I can see here are:
  • Semiprotect the article, giving you a free reign with it while PIO is locked out, which isn't fair for a content dispute, IMO.
  • Leave it fully protected for an extended period of time and force people to start discussion it.
  • Start issuing escalating 3RR blocks to either party.
  • Go back there.
The second option seems the most attractive in terms of attempting to reach a resolution, but I realise this is impractical, and there will be a dozen people willing to scream "WRONG VERSION!" at me. I'd rather not have to block anyone, but I realise this is probably what's going to happen. What do you suggest? ~ Riana 14:46, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its not that I'm screaming "WRONG VERSION!" at you (even though I do not like the current situation), I realise this is quite often heard in these situations (from both sides), and that you are not biased towards either side. The problem here is this:

  • The edit-war will ultimately not stop without a consensus.
  • A consensus can only be reasched through discussion.
  • One of the conflicting parties categoricly refuses any compromise or discussion.
  • The perpetual edit-war must end.

This requires creative thinking, I believe. I know it is pretty unWiki-like, but perhaps you can try to force the problematic party to enter into civil discussions and (especially) compromise (with some means or another). DIREKTOR 15:14, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My request is in post n. 44: problem is factiousness of DIREKTOR. A block of long time needs pushing DIREKTOR to understand that he has not consensus by me, Nickel Chromo, Rjwilmsi, Ilario and other unlogged editors: we are about dozen versus POV warrior DIREKTOR. Long blocking in actual version is right while we can proceed with request for mediation then maybe request for arbitration.PIO, 15:06 13 September 2007

LOL! A dozen!, POV warrior! There is already an arbitration here (I have told you this twice). Do not involve normal people who do not share your radical views. I "have not consensus" because you did not even dicusse this, at all. Your POV is much stronger than mine (since you originate from Istria). You have done nothing on this Wikipedia but attempted to criminalise the WW2 loss of Istria to Yugoslavia. DIREKTOR 15:21, 12 September 2007 (UTC) WHY are you writing some people's names here? Only Nickel Chromo was invloved here and now (this can be easily verified, you know). Outright lies...[reply]

OK, no scraps on my talk, guys. I'm so sorry but it's really late here and I really do want to give this the time and attention it deserves, so can we all please hold on for, say, 10 hours? ~ Riana 15:35, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the friendly warning. To be fair, I don't know if it mentions, but what I tried to edit wasn't the article I'd been blocked from editing, but the discussion, because I wanted to correct a reply I made to someone there that the block had been imposed on me JUST before I could fix... lol. Personal Attack Report[edit]

I hope you, as a Mediator, can do something, because I feel I simply must finally report User:PIO for his repeated attacks against both me, as well as Users No.13 and Kubura. The complication (I hope someone can resolve) arises here: the user in question is apparently experiencing "technical difficulties" so he uses an IP, however he signs his edits (with "PIO"), and it is unmistakeably obvious (due to the identical, rather shaky grammar as well as my experiences with the user) that this is indeed the person he claims to be.

The best example's of his attacks are here (in Italian, but still obvious), and on the Istrian exodus talkpage itself. I have warned him repeatedly, both on his most frequent IP (151.33.89.84 (Talk)) and registered talkpages, he, of course, deleted all the warnings and proceeded to insult me some more. The user also allegedly uses sockpuppetry, and apparently thinks he can get away with murder if it is done in the Italian language.

It is also important to note that, even though conditions are usually pretty uncivil, this user has infringed upon even the low standards of decency that are kept in the unending edit war between Croatian and Italian users. In his post on Giovanni Giove's talkpage, besides calling me a lunatic, he also calls me (and others) an idiot and mentally disturbed, besides this, he insists on incessantly calling me a communist, of all things. I do not mean to be pretentious, but if these are not textbook personal attacks, I do not know what is. At least some action is warranted by Wikipedia policy, is it not? DIREKTOR 16:27, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What do you suggest I do? Blocking PIO's main account does not appear to beneficial as he apparently cannot log in. I could block the IP, I suppose, but he seems to change this frequently. ~ Riana 16:34, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Btw... "Dunque DIREKTOR è un troll." - uh huh, know that much Italian ~ Riana 16:37, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh he can use his main account, he just chooses not to. Anyway, I thought someone might be able to do something. There has to be some course of action... I mean a person can't be above the rules by sumply modulating his IP... can he? DIREKTOR 17:50, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Naive question[edit]

I should be subst'ing {{usernameblocked}} and {{usernamehardblocked}}, right? -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 16:38, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uh huh! I think pretty much all the user talk templates are meant to be subst'd... not sure about that last bit... but yeah, subst those. ~ Riana 16:39, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re. the edit-warring between DIREKTOR and PIO: PIO seems to be running a sockpuppet network (see evidence I compiled for Kubura: User_talk:Kubura#User:PIO_and_Socks), probably to give appearance of support for his part of the edit war and evade 3RR. PIO is using Italia Online, so the only way to stop him completely is to block all of the 151.33.**.** block. Perhaps blocking the main account for a while would send the necessary message; blocking 65536 IPs for such low-level vandalism seems excessive. DIREKTOR is also quite agitated in editing, but has not blatantly violated policy. Michaelbusch 17:20, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Michael. I understand your point, however as an uninvolved user it is still slightly difficult for me to ascertain who is the party at fault here (mind you, the vitriol displayed by PIO at User talk:Giovanni Giove certainly counts against him). As far as I can see, blocking PIO's main account would just really be recording the offense. I'm certainly not going to block that many IPs for a content dispute :) Umm... about to step out here. I would really appreciate an e-mail from any/all of the involved parties, because I have a vague feeling some things are being left unsaid here. ~ Riana 17:51, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I don't see what the dispute has to do with his sockpuppetry and personal attacks. Besides the fact that it led to his being reported, that is. In nmy oppinion, the dispute does not erase his violations of policy and it is not a extenuating circumstance. I know this sounds pretentious, but if real measures are too sloppy I believe at least a warning in the form of a block of his logged User:PIO account is warranted. Also, I expect he may very well now spread the conflict to the Foibe massacres article. DIREKTOR 21:56, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A suspicious block[edit]

Hi,

In regards to this case here. It has been rejected by admin Dmcdevit as "This is ridiculous". It is more than obvious he is not going to do a user check on his friends. My full explanation on him is on that page. What strikes me as suspicious is that the sockpuppet Mbrdnbry has been blocked by Blnguyen here as a suspected sockpuppet of Hkelkar. Firstly, I did not list Hkelkar in the user check. Secondly, the block template of Mbrdnbry states to check the evidence in the checkuser. However, Blnguyen did not post a single comment here about his blocking of this user as a sock of Hkelkar. What really strikes me the most is the number of sockpuppets created by Hkelkar here. This brings me to suspect that Hkelkar is being used as a scapegoat, or a fall guy for other users who use sockpuppets. Please correct me if I am wrong. It seems very odd for Mbrdmbry to have removed over 70 templates here, right after Sarvagnya did the same here and Gnanapiti here. I strongly suspect that the admins Dmcdevit and Blnguyen are covering up the flaws of these usersw, and therefore are abusing their powers. More information on them can be found here. Wiki Raja 17:55, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tag-team edit-warring does not equate to sockpuppetry. They're not socks, just a bunch of nuisances. who share the same point of view. Ain't nothing you can do bar sit tight for a couple of months and whistle for a wind. Sorry! Moreschi Talk 09:02, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Discuss here. Image re-deleted by another OTRS user. Please do not re-upload. ~ Riana 13:04, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK maybe re-uploading was hasty. But I don't understand. I created the image, from scratch, on 23 July so how can it be a copyvio. Admittedly it was based on a similar image, but it is all my own work as stated in the licensing. As I originally asked, please prove your belief it is copyvio - I don't have access to OTRS so cannot see the reasoning behind the mistaken belief it is copy vio. Astronaut 13:11, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Basically, the OTRS ticket (which is limited to a few selected people) is an e-mail from the website that owns a similar image (http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?30319327), with a note that it was illegal for us to host this derivative image and that we should delete it. Looking at the two images, our copy does seem to be heavily based on theirs, so I deleted it. I realise it's hard to make these things... too' unique, as it's pretty much the same information you're trying to convey, but if you could take the effort to make it a little more different from theirs, such that we can still use the image but not piss anyway off, that would be great. ~ Riana 13:18, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that my image does look a little like the material presented on skyscraperpage.com, but I also agree that with such factual things as building height diagrams it is difficult to make it look different. However, I will try to make a different version (quite how, I'm not sure yet). To help me out here, do you have any guidance as to how different it needs to be before it's OK and will satisfy the guys at skyscraperpage?
However, I feel I need to apologies... my initial problem, and the reason for the rapid re-uploading, was the seemingly high-handed deletion of my image without any notification to me or discussion what-so-ever. Surely image deletion should be discussed and any evidence of copyright violation presented in plain sight (eg. IFD or talk pages, not OTRS) before the decision is made to actually delete it.
Astronaut 13:48, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry about that, apologies are due from my end too. OTRS complaints are generally considered fairly urgent, and we tend to act upon them first and deal with questions later.
I think your image is most similar to their image in the gridlines in the background, the font of the axis scale and the alignment of the images. Perhaps you could position the images in ascending order of height from left to right instead of right to left? And change the font and the gridlines? ~ Riana 13:51, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I can see why OTRS complaints should be dealt with quickly but could they be made more accessible to everyone? - it gave the impression of no discussion, analysis or genuine complaint. As for the image, I could re-order the buildings and remove some grid-lines. The font however is more difficult - Arial is a very common easy-to-read font, and I only have a bitmap editor to do the job. Should I ask for your approval before uploadng a new image?
And... Whilst I don't really want to help out the lawyers and I'm laying myself open to criticism for using the WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS argument, maybe you would be interested in the image I based mine on from the BBC (which my image replaced in the aricle due to factual errors and not being free) and the many hundreds of similar images I found with a brief search on google.
Astronaut 14:18, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think that one should be right. I can't really see the BBC complaining to us. (Besides, honestly, you can't really make these things very unusual). ~ Riana 06:04, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, maybe I didn't word it correctly. I can't use the BBC image because it's not free and there was some discussion (on Talk:Burj Dubai, and in the edit history) about there being factual errors in the text on the image. I created my image as a free replacement. I guess what I meant by bringing the BBC image to your attention, is if my image is a copyvio then isn't the image at the BBC (and the many more I've seen) also copyvios for the same reason? Anyway, by Monday I'll have a new and slightly different version of my image, as per the above discussion. Astronaut 07:54, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Death threat deletion[edit]

Hi Riana- Why did you remove the prod template from Death threat? Isn't it time to delete the article now? -Eric (talk) 13:24, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eric - see a few sections above. I did delete it, but someone asked me to restore it, so I did. ~ Riana 13:38, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Riana-
Thanks for letting me know. I wonder if George100 saw my reason for proposing the deletion. To me, "death threat" is a basic vocabulary term, with no need for an encyclopedia article to define it. But from what I see on Wikipedia, a quality-over-quantity approach--one that seeks to stem the tide of superfluous articles--is an uphill struggle. -Eric (talk) 16:03, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted userspace page[edit]

I'm looking for a copy of the deleted essay User:Eyrian/IPC, which I used to have linked from my User page. I've not asked for one of these before, but can this be recovered? There's some chat on this subject in WT:TRIVIA and WT:NOT.

I am also asking DGG. / edg 17:45, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suggested asking at the Admin notice board, since I am unsure--he chose to delete his user pages when he left WP, and he may have had the right to do so. As I had frequently been his opponent in debates on this subject, I did not wish to act alone. But it is a useful essay. DGG (talk) 18:00, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not again...[edit]

The user reported (and repeatedly warned) for vandalism, puppeteering and personal attacks, PIO, has announced (here) he is now going to spread the edit-war to the Foibe massacres article (as I mentioned earlier). He probably hopes his version will be blocked. I ask if there is anything that can be done to stop this guy from continuing this way? ...please? DIREKTOR 19:05, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Riana, I think the best option is to put the relevant articles under semi-protection, to stop the IP socks. Then, if PIO and DIREKTOR can't figure out their differences, blocking should be considered. Michaelbusch 19:57, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't give up on the whole thing, did you? DIREKTOR 23:32, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

*sigh* No, I did not give up - I haven't been active for the past, maybe, 16 hours. Hopefully I am allowed that much time off Wikipedia? :) I've left PIO a note on his main talkpage about logging in to edit. And I won't semiprotect the articles in dispute, because that's totally inappropriate, IMO. The discussion on Talk:Foibe massacres looks... slightly more grown-up than usual, so I'll see what develops in the next few hours. ~ Riana 05:50, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"How-to" photo acquisition or method proposal[edit]

Hi Riana, I would like some input if you've got the time for it. I created a 5 step outline for gaining a "free" photo (properly licensed) based on my experience of uploading the Glenn Greenwald image, which I think you gave the OTRS permission for. I was thinking of linking it to a couple of places as I believe it might help people navigate the license requirements for photos. If you think it might make life easier for you guys (or if you think it's not needed, for what ever reason) I'd appreciate it if you would let me know. Thanks, R. Baley 23:17, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, that's a really good idea. We tend to get quite a few incomplete messages at OTRS - people giving the image but not the link here, people thinking 'Sure, you can use that on Wikipedia' means the same thing as 'I release this under the GFDL', etc, etc... There's a great essay along similar lines here which you might find a useful read as well. Perhaps spam it around WP:COPYREQ and places like that? :) ~ Riana 05:56, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I might try that and see what "sticks". Also thanks for the link to VO's page, I knew somebody had to have done something similar to this, I just couldn't find it!

Fair use disputed for Image:New York Giants logo 1947-1957.png[edit]

File:Primer vuelo (para E.) - Transp.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:New York Giants logo 1947-1957.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. Bollywood[edit]

I won't. Yes actually the personell of the Bollywood site all use wikipedia heavily incuding the director of the company who said they would be delighted to make the images freely available for wikipedia with attribution.

I was considering moving the tmeplate name to {{cc-by-3.0 Bollywoodblog but please note the website has provided a link already to the current template as it is stating the 3.0 license for wikipedia to use. If we deleted the exisiting template it would created a red link on there site and may look suspicious and cause them some problems. As for uploading I usually upload into the commons also but I won't be uploading too many to wikipedia anyway. This is for the Indian cinema project to follow up and select the images they need -I am only loosely associated with the group and work on wikipedia. I do love Bollywood and iNdian people though! I just thought it was time some images were made more readily avialable. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 16:39, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think its best to leave the tmeplate as I agreed on it with the site as it is now but perhaps put a nowiki message in it as cc3.0 . The main thing is that template is categorized with all the images under 3.0 ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 16:49, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes i was discussing this with Shahid and agreed the images not water marked are more aesthetic and appropriate for the encyclopedia. Most image unfortunately are watermarked but there are many images which aren;t see Preity Zinta -the image is beautiful - I guess we just have to be selective unless we can find a way to modify them as we are permitted to do and remove the watermark through a digital art program somehow. I'm no expert on this but I'm sure it can be done. If I ulpoad any more it won't be with a watermark ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 16:57, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Babelfisch[edit]

Hi, Has Mainland china blocked from editing wikipedia?. If so this is terrible and quite honestly contrary to the principles of the "free encyclopedia that anyone can edit" . I know many Chinese people often vandalise for political reasons but what is the real reason for this?. Surely User:Babelfisch hasn't done anything bad personally? I find his edits and additions of the Tibetan and Chinese transcriptions very important on wikipedia and very helpful froma user who has a clear command of the language and is of an intellectual . This ridiculous if true China has 1/6 of the world population many millions which speak english and might use english wikipedia. We need his knowledge and edits for transcriptions as much as possible particularly for the Tibetan towns and villages I am adding where I hope he can expand my adding the transliterations. Is it possible to unblock him only? -as I can see that it may be precisely because China has such a huge population that masses of vandalism daily could be incredibly difficult to prevent thanks ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 13:29, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the problem is the Great Firewall and the fact that anonymizing proxies are needed to edit here, which is apparently a no-no. I think that one should be just fine. Fingers crossed! (And years of reading English mean that I find the right-to-left order makes more sense to me, I guess it's the opposite for speakers of Arabic languages :) ) ~ Riana 23:25, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help. The image is now restored to the Burj Dubai article.
But, I'm still a little worried about the basic principle here. I know it is an area of law I really don't want to get into, but the music industry seems to have come to some kind of "agreement" concerning sampling. Should I have given credit/acknowledgement to skyscraperpage even though my inspiration was from elsewhere? Does a similar kind of thing even exist for images? Just how different does an image need to be before it is no longer considered a copyright violation and what is my obligation to search for any similar work before I publish?
I wonder if all diagrams comparing skyscraper heights, anywhere on the internet, would fall foul of the same concerns.
Astronaut 00:16, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's too hard to make these images entirely non-unique - what can you really do to make them so? This particular case was responded to in this manner, but if we hear further complaints (which I doubt we will, but just in case!) I will respond to that effect. The music industry example - well, I could try to copyright an arpeggio in D minor but I doubt it would work out. It's just too commonplace and too hard to make it really your own. ~ Riana 00:30, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Socialism article[edit]

Hi Riana, I often wonder about getting the socialism article semi-protected since it seems to get vandalised most days and sometimes several times in a day. What do you think, and is it something you could do? Andysoh 20:26, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's not really that bad - I think you came to me because I protected Trotskyism and a few other articles, right? That was mainly to prevent sockpuppet attacks. If the vandalism gets any worse, feel free to request at WP:RFPP. :) ~ Riana 20:31, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yes, it seemed worse than it is. You're right of course, I couldn't figure out how to request semi-protection, although now it seems obvious, and so I asked you. I am reading the discussion on what a "high rate of vandalism from a wide range of anonymous IP addresses" requirement for temporary semi-protection really means, but it seems to mean quite a few vandalisms a day. In a way, it is a shame that good articles should get vandalised every other day, even if only for a short while before being reverted, and maybe the wiki community will feel like raising the standard one day. But I tend to agree with the case-by-case consensus approach rather than legislating specifically on these things anyway, and also with those who defend the wiki principle of allowing anyone to be able to edit an article, so fair enough. Hello, you know that nut who keeps vandalizing mine, yours, and other's userpages? I made a WHOIS report and found that he's from Tel Aviv, Isreal. There is currently an abuse report on him: Wikipedia:Abuse reports/Killer of Wikicunts. Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 23:36, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wonderful name, there. Thanks for the heads up~ Riana 23:37, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Reading the other abuse report, I have redirected mine into that. Cheers,JetLover (Report a mistake) 23:44, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page reversion[edit]

Thanks. I need a form letter for that, I think. :) I do appreciate it. --Moonriddengirl 01:53, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It all started right here with a level 1 warning about unsourced information. :) It seems like somebody has anger management issues. --Moonriddengirl 02:28, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your speedy anti-vandal work[edit]

Thanks for so quickly catching and reverting the vandalism by 172.132.59.221 on my user page (and elsewhere). —GrantNeufeld 02:26, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No worries :) ~ Riana 02:28, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User Thamarih again[edit]

Hello, the user has returned and continued with his uncivil discussion. Originally he tagged some pages with {{npov}} without any discussion. When the tags where removed, and then readded by himself, and asked by another editor, Paul Barlow, "Do you have any useful suggestions?" [5] he replied with

"Absolutely, I do. First, all Baha'is go away!" [6].

After Paul Barlow wrote "If you have nothing more useful to say your tag will simply be removed." [7] and being asked to remain civil [8] by MARussellPESE he returned by stating

"Listen, sock-puppet. Your threats do not scare me." [9]

and

"The Bahai editors - who are all sock-puppets of the Bahai administration and whose bias is well known - have shoved down their spin and propaganda on these articles.".

Note, that as MARussellPESE indicated "All of this article's sources are either the products of historians or direct personal accounts. All but one of the sources used in this article are non-Baha'i; and several are critical — even hostile to that religion. The Baha'i editors have gone out of their way to avoid using Baha'i sources in this and other Babi & Azali articles. The accusation thtat his is a Baha'i spin-job just doesn't carry water.". [10]. Email?[edit]

You never sent me an email :) Well, that's beside the point. How are things? Fredil 21:16, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thamarih is back from your block for incivility and personal attacks with more of the same. I've asked him to refrain, and documented them on his talk page. He's even opened up another attack page.

I've a WP:ANI opened as well, but thought you might have a renewed interest. Thanks for your time in any case. Ciao, MARussellPESE 01:56, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Problem[edit]

StatusBot is currently not working. You are not online. No problem. RS1900 04:07, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Jreferee has solved my problem. I thought that you were online. But, you were not online. Anyway, everything is fine now. RS1900 04:46, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

I passed my RfA, and couldn't have done it without your trust and support. Thank you very much. — Hex (❝?!❞) 12:35, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question, if you're around[edit]

this edit appears to be promotional, but it does lead to a valid NIH website. However, it was edited by NIH Media, so, well... this is a bit muddy for me. The government website is valid, and the information seems correct, but the name and the nature of the edit made by that name, seem to be a COI, or some sort of PR/promotional intent. Could I get your most wise opinion, pretty please? ArielGold 13:25, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm inclined to let it go for now, but if the account's sole purpose is to introduce NIH links, I might reconsider. ~ Riana 13:36, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks! I didn't think it was worth reporting or even putting a username concern template, so thank you so much for replying so quickly! ArielGold 13:46, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklist Problem[edit]

Hey Riana...glad to see you are back from your break. I am having a bit of a problem with the spam protection blacklist. Radio Station WBIG-FM's website is idigbig.com....problem is, the spam protection blacklist won't allow me to add that. Is there anyway that you can go in and change that? I would appericate it. Take Care and Have a Good Day...NeutralHomer T:C 13:44, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya Homer, sorry about the late response! I can't add or remove things from the blacklist as I'm not an admin on Meta, but you can ask for whitelisting at the talkpage of WP:WHITELIST. A Meta admin then reviews the request and makes a decision accordingly. ~ Riana 11:51, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No worries:) I thought the blacklist was something admins could take away from and add to. Hey, I learned something:) Take Care...NeutralHomer T:C 12:17, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

act on this ASAP[edit]

Hi Riana, I can't say this here, but it's in your mail. Please act on this as soon as you can. Thanks! --Kyoko 03:54, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Better take a second look at your inbox for my reply, there's something you weren't aware of. I'll write more when I can, but right now I'm in a rush! <3 --Kyoko 13:44, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow...[edit]

Talking about no rationale... this guy overblew it by a mile. Well if every editor does that, we won't have any issues with copyright. --DarkFalls talk 09:52, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ummm... wow. --Deskana (talk) 09:53, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, credits to Commandante Veneno. It seems that he actually makes the rationales, not the uploader. --DarkFalls talk 09:56, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well... Deskana loves the message... :) --DarkFalls talk 10:07, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Padlock[edit]

What colour is the padlock on your user page supposed to be? Pink, tiger or what? CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 12:52, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

lol! Personally I'd prefer a mix of both... but maybe if we all revert between versions fast enough, it'll appear that way? :) ~ Riana 12:55, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Have a random script change between colours. Problemo solvedo. Will (talk) 12:56, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Or is anyone here really good with Photoshop? Pink tiger!! Gscshoyru 12:58, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have Photoshop at home, though I won't be there for another hour and a half. Will (talk) 12:59, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have it as well... but I'm hardly 1337 with it... I could try though. Lets see... Gscshoyru 13:01, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well if we revert each other often enough we can all block each other for violation of 3RR or just revert to last good version by Riana. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 13:05, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe, I was wondering whether I'd need to get into a revert war over my own userpage... :) And I suspect this is the last good version, but I like the one up there now too :) ~ Riana 13:06, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Note: It's an svg, which Photoshop can't play with... and I can't figure out how to change it in Illustrator. So much for pink tigers. Ah well. Gscshoyru 13:12, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
While people war over the image, don't blame me for my crappy addition, I voted for Kodos. Will (talk) 13:13, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How's this for that padlock? That would take like five seconds in Inkscape ;) Fvasconcellos (t·c) 13:18, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, now I like it :) ~ Riana 13:46, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if you don't, at least you can delete it yourself ;) By the way, Will, shouldn't that poster read our agent in Australia? Fvasconcellos (t·c) 13:58, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(sorry about the long delay, was watching Chaser repeats) Ahhh, love the slightly homosexual tiger padlock! Keeping that one even if I loved the socks... *sniff* ~ Riana 14:38, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, I never noticed it said Canadian. So, ten thou US dollars... that's what, five cents Canadian? Oh yeah, my new socks are awesome. Example, the ones I'm wearing says hammered with a literal picture of a hammer (the kind you can touch). Will (talk) 14:47, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad you like it. Now, block me, please. Must... wipe... HD... watch... some... footy... nngh beer! Fvasconcellos (t·c) 14:51, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
