Coordinator sought for the US National Archives WikiProject[edit]

NARA Logo created 2010.svg

Greetings, WikiProject US National Archives member!

We are seeking a coordinator to help reboot the project and work on new initiatives! The role is modeled after other Wikiproject coordinators, like the WikiProject Military History coordinators. The coordinator will work with the Wikipedian in Residence to organize and increase participation in the WikiProject, with the goal that the WikiProject is an active space for collaboration maintained by and for the Wikipedia editors, rather than the National Archives.

Please see the full information at Wikipedia:GLAM/NARA/Coordinator and contact me is you have any questions. Feel free to pass this note along to any interested parties. Thanks! Dominic·t 21:06, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Crooms AOIT logo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Crooms AOIT logo.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:19, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

It's a public institution. Public institutions do not copyright their logos or other objects. For example, the CIA's and the FBI's logo is not copyrighted either.

The Stress Files[edit]

Sorry, you can't A7 an album. I'm not commenting about the notability of the album. Peridon (talk) 10:28, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Same at Between Heaven & Hell (Q-Unique album) Peridon (talk) 11:11, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
I didn't know this! Sorry. I'll PROD them instead. --Rockstonetalk to me! 13:06, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
Basically, A7 is for people and groups of people, named animals and things online. A band can be A7ed, but not their records. A church such as the Church of the Dancing Hamster, but not St Egglefroth's Church, Much Twittering in the Bushes, built 870. Actors, but not characters. Companies, but not products. Lavenderguillemot.com, but not the Lavender Guillemot browser you can download from there. Annie the Ninja Squirrel (on YouTube - two in one there), but not Hamstera choreographica (a species). Recordings can be A9ed if their performer hasn't an article and they aren't notable in their own right (rarely happens) - but be careful of typos by the author of the article... A lot of CSD criteria are tricky, even the one author one. Is the IP address that posted it the same as the author? (I assume no.) Are all the IPs that edited the author? (No.) What did all the other people do? (You can often spot the gnomes, and the size of the edit often helps.) Hope that's made things a bit clearer. 8-| Peridon (talk) 15:12, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
BTW Don't depend on public institution stuff being copyright free. Some USA stuff is, most other stuff there and elsewhere isn't. Ask Moonriddengirl or VernoWhitney if unsure. Peridon (talk) 15:15, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
Noted! Also, the file, Crooms AOIT.png is free because it is by a public institution in the USA in Florida. --Rockstonetalk to me! 19:52, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Virtual (horse)[edit]

Hi, you marked the rather bare article on Virtual for deletion - rightly so for its lack of citation and content. I've added some info and cited a couple of articles - can you have a quick look when you've got a minute and let me know if I've done enough there to establish notability. Thanks. --Bcp67 (talk) 21:34, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Yup, it looks notable! --Rockstonetalk to me! 21:44, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
Thank you! --Bcp67 (talk) 21:58, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

thanks[edit]

Hi, Derrick. Thanks for the Barnstar. VBut I am totally confused. What article were you referring to? Was it Geology of Russia. Political impact of Hurricane Sandy, State church of the Roman Empire, or something else? Again, thanks. I will watch here for an answer. μηδείς (talk) 00:28, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Hiya! Whats sad is I don't even remember anymore. Still, something you did must have deserved a barnstar. I thought the barnstar would link to the article (I used huggle to give it to you). I thought wrong. :P --Rockstonetalk to me! 23:25, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

If you have the time and the possibility the new List of papabili in the 2013 papal conclave WP article could need some help. You could start by taking a look at the talk page. Thanks Pgarret (talk) 09:30, 5 March 2013 (UTC))

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014[edit]

Today's motto...

Tous les jours à tous points de vue je vais de mieux en mieux.
"Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better."

Nominate one today!

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).

Thanks from MOTD and Happy 2014![edit]

Tournesol.png Thank you for your help and support at Motto of the Day in 2014. Our best wishes for the New Year. We hope to see you around in 2015. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 11:24, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
