AcademiaNet resubmission[edit]

Dear SL93 I am trying to save Draft:AcademiaNet from deletion and want to resubmit it. I read your comment about it (Sounds more like an advertising) but am, to be honest, at a total loss how I could improve the article to meet that criticism. I can't find any embellishment in the wording (maybe the Angela Merkel quote? But I don't think it violates guidelines and is relevant to state the purpose of the project?) and I think as an official project of the Swiss National Science Foundation and the sanctioned collaboration of over 40 other governemental institutions across europe it also clears notability criteria. Could you give me some pointers how to improve the article (I'm mainly active in the german wikipedia so am not that familiar with the ENG-standards), I would be sad to see such an important academic project which solely focus on women to not be represented. Thank you for your help. Fairfis (talk) 20:12, 6 March 2021 (UTC) -> Fairfis (de Wikipedia)[reply]

I now editet Draft:AcademiaNet by adding three addtional sources and changing several things. Can you check on it, if it is more suitable for publication and give me further advices, if it still seems unready? Thanks to Fairfis for taking up the topic as well again. The AFC script had a major failure, and didn't remove the AFC comments either. I removed the AFC comments, but didn't notice that the draft template was still there.

It may have been ultimately my mistake, but it is more likely the mistake of the author. The author inserted a comment in the draft. I cut the comment and the AFC question that it answered, and pasted them onto the talk page. I think of this as moving the comment to the back of the page, because I think of a talk page as the back of the article. Either the author or I did something that caused the AFC script not to do the cleanup well. So then I removed the AFC comments, but didn't notice the draft template. That is what happened, which ultimately is the result of editors acting like humans and doing things that the scripts didn't plan on. Robert McClenon (talk) 04:40, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 12:57:36, 4 December 2020 for assistance on AfC submission by Shawncunningham[edit]

Hi, thank you for taking the time to look at my first attempt at a wikipedia contribution. I found the interface a bit challenging.

I created the page about Jorg with the intent of then getting all the academics and political leaders that worked with him and that are still using his ideas today to contribute to the page. Many of them will be able to provide direct links to content and to how his ideas are still being used. Last year we held a memorial meeting in Germany with more than 30 scholars that are still working with his ideas, and they all committed to contributing. However, a committee cannot write a wiki page, and therefore I agreed to make a first effort.

As I do not speak good enough German, I cannot interview his mother and his close relations for more personal information.

So I do not know what to do to proceed. In the near future we will have buildings and libraries named after Jorg, so I am just wondering how one reviewer can decide that somebodys life was not significant? There are more than 60 countries using Jorgs models to develop innovation, technology, industrial and local economy policies.

Best wishes, Shawn

Shawncunningham (talk) 12:57, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Shawncunningham There are claims to notability in the article and there are potentially ways to make those claims significant enough to show notabiltiy per WP:PROF. There is the statement "Following his death, the German Development Institute described Jörg as one of Germanys most creative and productive development researchers" is an example because the article has no indications of how significant that institute is. The project that he led isn't sourced. "The concepts Jörg developed have strongly influenced the work of international development organisations such as the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit" is a great start because the organization has an article, but a few sourced examples would work well. I would be glad to approve the draft once these issues are fixed and I also have the draft in my watchlist to check up on. "There are more than 60 countries using Jorgs models to develop innovation, technology, industrial and local economy policies" is great also, but the draft makes no mention of such a thing. SL93 (talk) 15:18, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to approve the draft because I think there is a chance of this surviving deletion. If someone brings up notability concerns, you have the information that I gave you to fix it. SL93 (talk) 17:08, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yoninah That's not the issue. It doesn't seem like only a suggestion when you're the main promoter and you placed an issue tag on my talk page for what I thought was just a drive-by comment. I'm not sure how to explain it better if you don't understand. SL93 (talk) 23:08, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My being the "main promoter" has nothing to do with cruising around the noms page to format hooks and occasionally leave a drive-by comment. And I certainly don't feel I'm the gatekeeper to the queues. And I would much rather have one or two other people regularly build sets, like Cwmhiraeth and I used to take turns before she became an admin. But when there's not a lot of approved noms available to build well-rounded sets, like now, I take a break from promoting and go do reviews. Then I post on Cwmhiraeth's page and ping you too to promote all the hooks I can't. Thank you for the alts; they're much better. I'll go ahead and do the review. Best, Yoninah (talk) 23:23, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patrol December Newsletter[edit]

Hello SL93,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Request on 17:27:11, 11 December 2020 for assistance on AfC submission by Hickeygamez[edit]

Can you provide any additional feedback? I asked Articles for creation help desk, but didn't get any real advice beyond snarky comments.

Hickeygamez (talk) 17:27, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for looking at the draft of the article. The feedback mentioned specifically that there should be "published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject". I was wondering why the references citing "The New Arab" didn't meet this criteria? The google translate version of the website translated into English are accurate and show "independence" from the subject. This is the English language version of the same site: https://english.alaraby.co.uk/english

Thanks again, and I hope you and your family are safe wherever you are. Carlsba (talk) 22:38, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Carlsba Both the "Wooden Castle" article and the "Jerusalem Jaffa Road" from The New Arab was written by the article's subject. That is clearly not "independent of the subject". The "Palestine 2019" article only mentions the subject in one sentence, in relation to his short story receiving an award. There is no indication that the award is a notable one. The "Young Writers" article is one source with significant coverage that is independent of the subject. I have my doubts about the awards being significant because the article states that he has been called an "emerging writer". SL93 (talk) 23:47, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SL93 I was wondering about the ArabLit source in the draft? They are independent from the subject and I think they, along with the other sources, provide the minimum standard for being published in Wikipedia. Namely, does the subject exist and are they notable. Even though Ameer did receive an emerging writer, I think given his output and previous translation into English, his article should be considered for publication. Thank you for the feedback and I will continue trying to improve the draft. Carlsba (talk) 02:47, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

{u/SL93 (talk} 14 Dec 2020 6:54 PM PDT

I took an interest in a draft that you rejected for not being significant. Seeing that the intial article was merely a repeat of press releases by USPS, I would have agreed with you. But, I did further research and found more than 100 references that showed its significance both in California, the US and Internationally. I did a significant re-write of the article and added more than 20 of the references I found. I believe that this should be a wikipedia article for the following reasons:

  • Significant coverage: the article I wrote addresses the topic directly and in detail, so that no original research is needed to extract the content. The sources are major newspapers and international magazines that are more than 100 years in continuance, such as San Francisco Chronicle, Music Trades Magazine, and more. In some cases, more than 100 citations were available in the local media surrounding an event, and I only listed some of them, to avoid having too many citations.
  • Reliable coverage includes major journalists and authors of notability.
  • Sources are secondary sources, including newspapers, radio, television, and government resolutions recognizing significance.
  • I am independent of the subject.
  • Unique series of cancellations by a major organization that is more than 200 years old. The United States Postal Service is one of the oldest and largest Corporations in the United States. This cancellation series has been ongoing for 24 years and remains unique, from what I could find in my research. Most special postal cancellations are one time events, not a series over a period of years. If there had been a set of many different types of cancellations series, I would have created an article on special cancellation series and included the USPS Building Bridges as one of those. But, in my research, I could not find any other series spanning this time period, that used the same symbol repeatedly and had so much newspaper and media coverage per event. So, I think it merits its own page.
  • Each of the postal cancellations that I researched fit within a context that was culturally significant for the time. For example, the Music Recording theme for the USPS Building Bridges Spacial Cancellation Series was at the closing of one of the last large recording studios, Fantasy Studios, in a series of closings of studios spanning more than 10 years. It is also the first music recording history theme that I could find in any Special Postal Cancellations globally, from my research.

I would be most interested to know if you think that this page is worthy of being a wikipedia page on your review of it now. I appreciate your experience. I am a new writer to Wikipedia, so I am sure I have more to learn. But, my goal here is to help add good research and reliable citations from worth sources to articles that seem to merit it. User:SoundNotater

SoundNotater I accepted the article. The reference with "Harris, Elihu (Jan 1992). "21 Days of Light" (City of Oakland Mayor's Proclamation). Retrieved 12 Dec 2020." needs the link fixed though. It doesn't go to the article. SL93 (talk) 03:19, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SL93 Thanks. I will see if I can find the specific link and update the reference.

Draft:Pan American School of Bahia[edit]

Hi,

I hope all is well.

The article written was rejected for not having "significant coverage" about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject.

I believe such rejection is wrong. Would you be able to, please, help me with this matter?

All sources (but one) are not related in any shape or form to the subject in matter. One of the sources, A Tarde, is a 108-year-old journal that is also on Wikipedia. All resources are secondary (not related), reliable, independent, and experienced.

The article is about an international American school that is not located in one of the main cities in the country. That said, it is impossible to exist an article from an international outlet. Even schools such as St. Paul's or Graded in São Paulo do not have such coverage. What I can guarantee, and what you can check is, that there is, in fact, significant coverage.

Thank you and I apologize for any inconvenience earlier on. I was indignant.

Best wishes,

@ThiagoWinters: I looked through the sources again and I agree that there is enough coverage. I have absolutely no problem with coverage that isn't from the United States. I would have been glad to double-check when I received your early message, but I was surprised with how you reacted when it could also be resolved by speaking nicely. Draft:Igor Jankowski[edit]

Hello,

the article that I translated from Polish Wikipedia was rejected for being not adequately supported by reliable sources.

I believe such rejection is wrong. Source https://pwm.com.pl/pl/kompozytorzy_i_autorzy/5640/igor-jankowski/index.html is reliable. PWM (Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne) is a Polish Music Publishing House (https://pwm.com.pl/en/page/o_pwm.html and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PWM_Edition), a Polish cultural institution established in 1945 and the only Polish national Publishing House. MichalDering The issue is that most of the article has no citations. That is always unacceptable for a biography of a living person. SL93 (talk) 19:23, 17 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, would you be able to promote ALT3 to the lead slot in Prep 1? We're ready for a building image, but both Amkgp and I worked on this. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 19:11, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yoninah Done. SL93 (talk) 19:45, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hook promotion[edit]

Dear SL93 and Amkgp, I'm having trouble building balanced sets because I can't promote hooks that I wrote or approved. Basically, we have a ton of approved U.S. non-bio hooks, so we need to slot in non-U.S. bios around them. These are the hooks I can't promote:

Bios
Non-bios
  • Do you want to build the next open set? I did more reviews so I'm getting very limited in what I can promote. Yoninah (talk) 22:57, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yoninah You're welcome. I have been having a lot of free time lately which helps my response time (I'm definitely looking forward to my new job at the end of January). I can build the next set. SL93 (talk) 23:00, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sylvia Pengilly. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sylvia Pengilly), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. William Brooks Close[edit]

Hi - Congratulations on your excellent work on William Brooks Close. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 10:32, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dormskirk Thank you. Although, that edit summary from Apophis-the-great is very strange. According to White Pass and Yukon Route and its sources, three companies came together to build the railroad in 1897 so it couldn't have been completed in 1892. The construction didn't even start until 1898 and it became operational in 1899. The adultery court case also wasn't held three years after the fact. SL93 (talk) 13:43, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - Yes, I cannot make it out either so am in the same camp as you. Whatever, the article has benefited hugely by your contribution. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 13:47, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dormskirk Thanks again. I appreciate it. SL93 (talk) 13:52, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, are you in the middle of prep building? Let me know which prep set you're working on and I'll come back later.

Also, don't you want to save the clouded leopard image for an image slot? I think it would get a lot of clicks. Best, Yoninah (talk) 18:06, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yoninah The clouded leopard hook was going to be my last promoted hook for now. I wasn't sure if the image would make the article receive more clicks, but I respect your opinion so I added it back to the Approved nominations list for a later promotion. Hey there. I replaced the DVD cover with the VHS one, which came first before the DVD. Also, I used the PNG format. If you don't mind the DVD cover being replaced, then you should use {{db-g7}} for speedy deletion. --George Ho (talk) 00:16, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. You might wanna read WP:FILMNFI, which somehow prefers images that improves understanding of critical commentary more. Well, it's subjective methinks, but I think usually one of earliest covers or promo materials are best preferred. --George Ho (talk) 00:22, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yoninah That sounds fine. Thanks for the update. SL93 (talk) 15:49, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have attempted to find other sources on my topic, but since most of it was put together by newspaper articles and other older sources, much of it has been lost. I really don't know how much more I can find. If I can't find any more info than what I have already found, can you delete the draft? It just seemed at the tme that the Iowa Defunct Sports Category was lacking a forgoten conference and I was simply trying to add to it to the best of my abilities. Thanks! About my DYK[edit]

I noticed that you reviewed my DYK nomination. However, you did not leave any comments. I'm unsure of exactly how to improve my article. Thank you for your time. Congratulations[edit]

Congratulations! With 15,624 total views (and 1,302 views per hour), your hook on Kusarigama is the one of most viewed DYK hooks this month. Accordingly, it has been placed in the list at DYKSTATS January. Keep up the great work! Cbl62 (talk) 19:18, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations too on working hard to fill the prep areas in Yoninah's absence. I can do some promoting, but that limits my ability to move prep sets into the queue. I hope Yoninah will be back soon to ease the load. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:26, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Cwmhiraeth I understand. Though my biggest hope is that at least someone other than Yoninah will help with the workload - considering that DYK has so many participants. The only thing in my recent promotions that was brought up at Errors was only a phrasing preference that was not technically an error. I just feel like it's not a hard thing for others do once they read how to do the job. SL93 (talk) 09:43, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Cwmhiraeth At some point, these old nominations will need to be promoted. I'm fine if it isn't today. SL93 (talk) 09:58, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I can promote these hooks. Promoting two hooks per set is my self-imposed limit to allow me to move prep sets into the queue whenever necessary. If I build a whole set, I could be stuck as the queue moves have to be done in strict rotation. (I have moved four of the last five prep sets into the queue.) Hi SL93, regarding your promotion of Template:Did you know nominations/Climate change in Kenya, do you know what the guidelines are for determining author DYK attribution? The article was developed as part of an edit-a-thon with new users, and as shown on the xtools, quite a few other editors have contributed to getting the article DYK ready, and wider attribution may help with the DYK goal of encouraging and retaining new editors. I write here because the archived page tells me it was your nomination. --Whiteguru (talk) 05:56, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Initially I wasn’t sure why you made the comment that I hadn't addressed the concerns of the previous reviewer. However, I have (slowly!) come to realize what your comment meant (I think).

When the article was previously rejected, I had some discussions with the editor who suggested the material needed a better introduction. At the time I took that to mean the article should better introduce the technique of microwave direction finding, so I expanded the introductory section. I now think what was wanted was a clearer, more basic, description of the mathematical concepts underlying the method, before presenting the main details. Am I correct?

Once the situation is clear, I will try and redraft the article, although I am concerned that you think it is not suitable for Wikipedia.
Any comments and suggestions would be appreciated. D1ofBerks (talk) 12:30, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

D1ofBerks I would need to know why it can't be combined with the already existing article direction finding. SL93 (talk) 17:06, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would take this up with the AFC help desk page. To me, it shouldn't have its own article. SL93 (talk) 17:15, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thank you for your response.
The material could be added to the existing article and I did consider doing this, initially, and I'm still not adverse to doing that. However, I decided not to do it for the following reasons.
1. The article would become excessively long.
2. The techniques and equipment involved, at microwave frequencies, are quite different to those at RF. Any any case the previous techniques are unsuitable for detecting a transmitter bent on avoiding detection. (I wish I had called my article "Microwave Direction Finding" to better distinguish it from the existing article).
3. The existing article talks, in general terms (but quite clearly), about the techniques of DF prior to the second world war. My aim, rightly or wrongly, is to to show, explicitly, how an antenna array determines the bearing of an incoming signal. This does involve mathematical equations and I give references for the really interested reader. Consequently, the two approaches are rather different, and may look odd in the same article.
What do you think? Should I go to the AFC help desk, as you suggest? (Also, I remain concerned that the content may need amending)
D1ofBerks (talk) 18:17, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think so. SL93 (talk) 18:22, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Prep 5[edit]

I would have thought that Basaran qualified for the picture hook either in that set or another? The image we have at the moment is grey and hard to read. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:14, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Philafrenzy Honestly, the image situation is making me frustrated. I agree with you, but then I would be stepping on the toes of the editor who promoted that hook. Pinging promoter Joofjoof to see what they think about switching the image hook to Template:Did you know nominations/Mehmet Ismet Başaran. SL93 (talk) 18:17, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
SL93 That's fine: the satellite photo was for variety, but the stamp photo also works. Philafrenzy We have more approved image hooks than non-image hooks at the moment, so choosing the feature is an ongoing challenge. Joofjoof (talk) 23:43, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Fingos[edit]

On 1 February 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Fingos, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that despite a $34 million advertising campaign in the United States by General Mills, their breakfast cereal snack Fingos only lasted from 1993 to 1994? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Fingos. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Fingos), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Unione Giovani Ebrei d'Italia[edit]

Hi I saw you declined the submission for this page. I'm a bit confused on the reasons why you declined the article. There are plenty of secondary notes, and it gives full coverage of the activity of this organization. Could you please explain in further detail what were the problems of the article or maybe reconsider its approval? Gibbone22 (talk) 09:56, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't just there being secondary coverage. The secondary coverage also has to show notability per WP:N. Profiles on websites for the organization doesn't show notability (ugei, wujs, consiglionazionale-giovani). Blogs are typically unreliable sources (shalom). Interviews are primary sources (avantionline). YouTube and Spotify are not reliable sources. Italiaisraeletoday is a broken link. The 13th reference redirects back to the article. A barnstar for you![edit]

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
I should first begin this message by apologizing-- I went to your talk earlier today with the intention of delivering this barnstar, but along the way somehow mis-clicked rollback in your sandboxand, well, that's very embarrassing so sorry. What I came here to do is thank you fo all of the hard work you've been putting into DYK. I can only imagine how thankless it may seem, so please consider this barnstar a small token of thanks from me in appreciation of your efforts. 1st Weather Squadron[edit]

I promoting it and I am seeing AF FOIA Request 2009-01965, 13 July 2009 as a source. Is there a link for this? -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 04:22, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Guerillero No. That was there before I edited the article. AF FOIA Requests are used in other military articles and from what I understand, it means that someone requested the information from the Air Force Offices which provided the information. SL93 (talk) 04:24, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't feel that it is possible to verify a FOIA request to a single person. Would you mind removing that one fact? -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 04:26, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I will do that now. SL93 (talk) 04:27, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion; photo[edit]

Hi. I noticed that a dyk that you promoted has photos that could perhaps be used. Your call. But just so you could consider them, they are the top three here, possibly for the Zach Iscol dyk.[1] --2603:7000:2143:8500:A1A3:633:94F3:E5BF (talk) 07:38, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

2603:7000:2143:8500:A1A3:633:94F3:E5BF DYK can’t use every image. Most nominations right now have a requested image. DYK sets can’t be built if every image is used. SL93 (talk) 16:17, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Prep building again[edit]

Thank you for doing the job! - I try to not complain about pic selection but hoped the quite unusual one of Innisfree Garden would be taken, or perhaps the one on my talk. It's a unique view and shows the place much better than words can do, - a creation of decades. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:35, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gerda Arendt My issue is that most of the requested images are good images. It always leaves me in a bad position. SL93 (talk) 18:32, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry about your position, but I wasn't saying "good image" but "describing a place well", while a jar is just a jar, yes a beautiful one.
Gerda Arendt I have absolutely no idea what you're going on about. I was only saying why I didn't include the image that you mentioned. I have no idea why you're bringing up the jar that I chose - that has more to do with building a balanced set with many nominations being related to the United States. You never brought up your sick friend until now. SL93 (talk) 18:46, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Innisfree Garden
Now I am sorry I mentioned her. I just wanted to explain why I even came. I traditionally take the choice of the prep-builder, tremendously disappointed only the very first time that I suggested a picture, in 2009. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:04, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gerda Arendt My issue is that you were being very cryptic. You didn't state in your original message about how disappointed you were and about your obvious complaint of me choosing a jar over your image. I honestly don't care how unhappy you are because only two images that I have requested over the past 10 years have been chosen for the DYK image slot. SL93 (talk) 19:13, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gerda Arendt You know what? I'm done building preps because everyone feels entitled to having their requested image be chosen. Not many editors did that when Yoninah skipped over many good images. I've had it. SL93 (talk) 19:18, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I usually stick to two comments, but this makes me to sad! How many times do I have to say that I am sorry I even came, and then I didn't see your notice on top? And wrong about Yoninah, I talked to her in such cases, see here. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:29, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Gerda Arendt I accept your apology, but I’m tired of building prep sets and I don’t know how Yoninah kept up with it for so long. It isn’t an obligation. SL93 (talk) 19:34, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 21:00:38, 12 February 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Bengals93[edit]

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to review my article for submission "Athens College of Ministry."

I received the same response from you as the first reviewer 3 months ago even though changes were made. Can you please help me to understand why the article continues to be denied? The comment states "This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject."

I provided 5 references regarding the subject (I could have provided more but didn't want to overdo it) and 4 out of 5 of them are "independent of the subject," which include stories/articles from local newspapers. So I guess I'm confused as to why this doesn't qualify as reliable references?

If you could answer this for me or give me the proper tips to get this page published that would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

WikiCup 2021 March newsletter[edit]

Round 1 of the competition has finished; it was a high-scoring round with 21 contestants scoring more than 100 points. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2, with 55 contestants qualifying. You will need to finish among the top thirty-two contestants in Round 2 if you are to qualify for Round 3. Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius led the field with a featured article, nine good articles and an assortment of other submissions, specialising on buildings and locations in New York, for a total of 945 points.
  • Republic of Venice Bloom6132 was close behind with 896 points, largely gained from 71 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
  • Scotland ImaginesTigers, who has been editing Wikipedia for less than a year, was in third place with 711 points, much helped by bringing League of Legends to featured article status, exemplifying how bonus points can boost a contestant's score.
  • Rwanda Amakuru came next with 708 points, Kigali being another featured article that scored maximum bonus points.
  • Ktin, new to the WikiCup, was in fifth place with 523 points, garnered from 15 DYKs and 34 "In the news" items.
  • Botswana The Rambling Man scored 511 points, many from featured article candidate reviews and from football related DYKs.
  • Gog the Mild, last year's runner-up, came next with 498 points, from a featured article and numerous featured article candidate reviews.
  • Hog Farm, at 452, scored for a featured article, four good articles and a number of reviews.
  • United States Le Panini, another newcomer to the WikiCup, scored 438 for a featured article and three good articles.
  • England Lee Vilenski, last year's champion, scored 332 points, from a featured article and various other sport-related topics.

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. In Round 1, contestants achieved eight featured articles, three featured lists and one featured picture, as well as around two hundred DYKs and twenty-seven ITNs. They completed 97 good article reviews, nearly double the 52 good articles they claimed. Contestants also claimed for 135 featured article and featured list candidate reviews. There is no longer a requirement to mention your WikiCup participation when undertaking these reviews.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or something else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Hi SL93: I saw your note in Prep 6 saying that the picture slot should be a non-bio pic. Are we supposed to be alternating bio & no bio hooks in the lead spot? (That's what I've gathered from conversations on the talk page anyway.) You'd put the Japanese route pic as lead spot in Prep 5, so I'm wondering if it should be a bio pic in 6. Can you please let me know? If so, I thought I'd stick Harry Styles in there. MeegsC (talk) 11:03, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MeegsC We should be alternating between bio images and non-bio images in the lead spot. There have been a few times where it didn't work out though because of special occasion hook requests. SL93 (talk) 15:01, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Hey SL93, came over here to thank you for filling in the last two hooks in prep 7 (I got stuck last night) but also more generally for all you do for DYK! Much appreciated. DanCherek (talk) 03:03, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DanCherek You're welcome. Your comment has improved my day. SL93 (talk) 03:14, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cookhouse prep 6[edit]

I don't think that is the right image. Clearly a farm would not be needed to supply a tiny building like that. What about the one I added to the nom? It's more authentic and more closely matches the hook as it includes loggers too. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:01, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Philafrenzy I changed the image. SL93 (talk) 14:36, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Top 100 Drugs prep 4[edit]

Why don't we put it all in lower case as Gerda suggests, as it is already in the final slot? Philafrenzy (talk) 08:11, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Philafrenzy, {{u|Gerda Arendt} actually said, "Good hook, would fit for 1 April if piped to lower case". The last slot is the quirky slot and not a perpetual April's Fool's slot. Maybe someone on the DYK talk page might do it, but I do not want my username brought up at Errors. SL93 (talk) 13:41, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fix pings - Philafrenzy, Gerda Arendt SL93 (talk) 13:42, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well I know, but the hook is drifting that way and it seems too good to miss. Philafrenzy (talk) 14:35, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Minor point[edit]

You just promoted Giacomo Sartori. Thank you... you missed off some of the text at the end. While I'm here ... thanks for your work for DYK Victuallers (talk) 14:11, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Victuallers I'm not sure what I'm missing. I just copy and pasted the original hook which I thought was being referred to as ALT0. SL93 (talk) 14:17, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think you mean that my closure didn't highlight all of the text in the DYK nomination. I closed it the correct way and I can't seem to fix it. Pinging Mandarax to see if they can help. SL93 (talk) 14:21, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It may not be important. I can do it if that's OK Victuallers (talk) 14:29, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Victuallers That would be great. I would appreciate it. SL93 (talk) 14:30, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Glen Cove Hospital[edit]

Hi SL93: Thanks for closing that nom. I'm not sure what happened there; I paste the hook into the prep and then close both. But I guess the nom didn't close properly and I didn't notice! MeegsC (talk) 07:22, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious[edit]

Hi SL93: I'm just curious as to why you didn't just return the original picture hook back to Prep 7, rather than replacing the Armenian genocide hook with something else. I'm also wondering why two other hooks from that set got moved out too. Was there a problem with the set as I'd built it? If so, it would be good to know what it was. Thanks! MeegsC (talk) 19:15, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MeegsC For the image hooks, I became confused as to where they used to be at. When I moved a building hook out of one set, it was because I moved a building hook to that set as an image. The other hook was to balance out the US hooks per my mistake. I think everything should be fine now though because everything is still in the preps. SL93 (talk) 19:44, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2021 May newsletter[edit]

The second round of the 2021 WikiCup has now finished; it was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 61 points to advance to Round 3. There were some impressive efforts in the round, with the top eight contestants all scoring more than 400 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 110 good articles achieved in total by contestants, as well as the 216 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.

Our top scorers in Round 2 were:

  • Botswana The Rambling Man, with 2963 points from three featured articles, 20 featured article reviews, 37 good articles, 73 good article reviews, as well as 22 DYKs.
  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with 1718 points from one featured article, 29 good articles, 16 DYKs and plenty of bonus points.
  • Republic of Venice Bloom6132, with 990 points from 13 DYKs and 64 "In the news" items, mostly recent deaths.
  • Hog Farm, with 834 points from two featured articles, five good articles, 14 featured article reviews and 15 good article reviews.
  • England Gog the Mild, with 524 points from two featured articles and four featured article reviews.
  • England Lee Vilenski, with 501 points from one featured article, three good articles, six featured article reviews and 25 good article reviews.
  • Sammi Brie, with 485 points from four good articles, eight good article reviews and 27 DYKs, on US radio and television stations.
  • Ktin, with 436 points from four good articles, seven DYKs and 11 "In the news" items.

Please remember that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of Round 2 but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in Round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them (except for at the end of each round, when you must claim them before the cut-off date/time). When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Must see once[edit]

Hello @SL93:, I want to make Emiway Bantai. I tried once before to create an article Emiway Bantai (Indian rapper), but it was deleted, which probably would not have passed GNG at that time. Then I found a Machayenge article from Emiway on Wiki. When I checked that article, it turned out that it was created by CptViraj. He is also an NPR. When I talked to him about this, he said that he was previously associated with this subject. So now he does not want to make it. Then I saw their sandbox which was made to make User:CptViraj/sandbox/Emiway Bantai. Recently I have prepared an article on their sandbox. Therefore, I will ask you to review it. Since its main title is Protected by the Administrator, I will ask you to move it to Emiway. Must see once. Thank you

I'm sorry you feel that an unjustified 'jab'. DYK is a favorite main page feature for me. But I am constantly finding that the text of linked articles contains embarrassing flaws.
And while lately there hasn't been a repeat of "which of three surgeons actually removed the Prince of Wales' appendix?" there remains a persistent disdain for the actual text. Some days it is every third article.
Check through my latest edits for examples. "instrusions" remained after all the reviewers objections were addressed?
I have brought up the persistence of uncaring repeatedly, but almost always the answer is "but we're doing important stuff, too much to consider reading..." It is 'process' over 'content'.
See that last paragraph. Same criticism you consider a 'jab'. And still a problem. Note the responses. See? Not our problem, thus not a problem, thus you're the problem. (sigh) Shenme (talk) 05:02, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond[edit]

SL93, Thank you for taking the time to review the draft page Draft:Community_Foundation_for_a_greater_Richmond. I know there is a huge backlog. I'll continue to work on it to see if I can revise and improve it. I do now see a couple of minor NPOV copy editing spots but not a page-wide general tone. Perhaps you can confirm my assumptions. (Most charities have very simple public footprints even if they have significant and ongoing societal impacts: they raise money and give it away. Regionally important organizations, such as this one, also serve as 'rain-makers' in bringing together and coordinating public and private entities. So, a concise description of their processes and the initiatives might inherently seem promotional.) So, I just want to make sure this is an issue of copy editing and not inherent content. I have no connection to this organization other than living in the same region; I’m just trying to be a journeyman and add a well-done page. Zatsugaku (talk) 13:59, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Zatsugaku: Your draft has language that is often used in promotional articles - "seeks to", "fulfill this mission", having a mission section in general, "through a competitive process", "aimed toward", "building a healthy and vibrant region", "endeaver to", having a Leadership initiatives section in general, and "its goal". The quoted content look spammy - "“The Community Foundation serves and inspires people to build philanthropy for our region and to engage in our community.” Even if the promotional language is taken care of, I still don't think it passes WP:ORG. SL93 (talk) 17:33, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for those details; that will be very helpful. I see that other similar pages typically replace those sections with an expanded History, etc., and more neutral language. (Perhaps only about 1/4 of non-profit organizations have a Mission section.) On WP there are many Community foundation pages, most seem to be stubs or starter grade. I was shooting for somewhat higher quality launch, and I thought this page Chicago Community Trust looked like a good model. However, I understand some of the underlying differences. (It would be helpful if there were agreed upon exemplars; maybe there are and I've missed them.) I'm working both to be able to provide mentorship to new wikipedia editors and to become a page reviewer, so I'm looking at these topics/policies and my errors in almost OCD detail, doing deep dives on talk page archives, and trying to formulate how I would offer guidance to others. Re General Notability, there are more news stories for this organization; I was having some trouble until I inquired about its prior entity names going back to 1968. So I think I can meet WP:ORGCRIT/Primary. (I see that WP:NONPROFIT seemingly implies a hurdle that other organizations are not subject to. But on closer reading, it is "an optional, alternative method" whose standards confer an affirmative assumption. Thus, not meeting NONPROFIT, i.e., not being national in scope, should not confer a negative assumption.) Zatsugaku (talk) 17:23, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Zatsugaku: You can message me again when you think you're done with the article. I will also keep the draft article in my watchlist. Chicago Community Trust probably isn't the best article to base something on because the talk page says that the main editor was paid to create the article. I forgot to ask, if you can review the article again, I didn't change the sources, there's not so much trustful information on the internet (as you may know), so that's why I am using Billboard, I don't find it so untrustful this source. Thank you for a list of good ones! - I was determined to not bother you again with a wish for a topic to be pictured, but ... - If we don't picture the house in New York (prep 1) we should take one of the hooks that say "modeled after a French chateau", because without seeing how unusual that house is for NYC, we should at least say it. But seeing would be easier. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:31, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gerda Arendt I changed the hook. I didn't use the image because that spot was reserved for a US non-bio per a hidden comment in the prep and all such hooks had pictures. SL93 (talk) 21:55, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I offered to assist the creator of this draft with the article as an independent editor. I believe the topic warrants inclusion. WikiCup 2021 September newsletter[edit]

The fourth round of the competition has finished with over 500 points being required to qualify for the final round. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants, Botswana The Rambling Man and New York (state) Epicgenius, each scoring over 3000 points, and six contestants scoring over 1000. All but one of the finalists achieved one or more FAs during the round, the exception being Republic of Venice Bloom6132 who demonstrated that 61 "in the news" items produces an impressive number of points. Other contestants who made it to the final are Gog the Mild, England Lee Vilenski, Zulu (International Code of Signals) BennyOnTheLoose, Rwanda Amakuru and Hog Farm. However, all their points are now swept away and everyone starts afresh in the final round.

Round 4 saw the achievement of 18 featured articles and 157 good articles. George Floyd mural Bilorv scored for a 25-article good topic on Black Mirror but narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final round. There was enthusiasm for FARs, with 89 being performed, and there were 63 GARs and around 100 DYKs during the round. As we start round 5, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it to the final round; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For other contestants, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.

If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required).
