Images listed on IfD[edit]

Hi. You listed a bunch of images on IfD which have been moved to the Commons. Any image that has been moved to the commons can be speedily-deleted. Just put {{db|Image was moved to Commons}} on the image description page, and a sysop will delete the images ASAP. Thanks! – Quadell (talk) (help) 05:10, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)

About kazuhiro Senoo/Orquesta Banano...[edit]

I understand your skepticism about this subject, as Mambo a Gogo is Konami's most obscure game in its bemani series, and as such, the artist for the songs are unknown for the most part...

Here's how I found out that Kazuhiro Senoo is Orquesta Banano:

If you visit this page (http://www.konami.co.jp/am/AM/mamboagogo/mambo_ug/songs.html#senoo (which is also Konami's official Mambo a Gogo page), you'll notice that in Kaz's column, you'll see that El dia Feliz (verified as being produced by Kaz Senoo in the Pop'n Music 8 OST), Dance the night away (in Konami's Beatmania the Final official site, you'll notice that this song is attributed to Kaz Senoo). If you noticed in Cafe del Banano's box, you'll notice a blue bar underneath it that is a link to a preview of that song if you have a real media player, in the artist title, it says "Orquesta Banano", and since this column is about Kaz's songs it is highly probable that it was Kaz that produced/composed this song...

Hope that clears things up a bit...

Railroad yards[edit]

Hello, I have made a proposal to your question in: Talk:Classification yard for editing the related articles. Michael 07/III/2005.

DDR US 1st Mix images.[edit]

Hey SPUI, I rotated your photos of the US 1st Mix machine so they don't look crooked. I then cropped away the black edges that formed due to the rotation. Would you mind if I uploaded them under the same name to replace the current images? --Poiuytman 04:46, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

The perceived crookedness in Image:DDR US 1st.jpg is due to the steep angle at which the wall in the background is seen. The image cannot be rotated to make the wall completely vertical, because then the machine looks off. I rotated it until a compromise was made between the wall and machine alignment. --Poiuytman 20:12, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Re:DDR USA[edit]

Sorry, for some reason I didn't see your note on my talk page until now. DDR USA isn't listed on the template simply because it doesn't have an article yet. There is a more complete template on Template talk:Dance Dance Revolution games. Do you think we should use it with the red links to encourage the creation of more DDR game articles? --Poiuytman 10:52, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Re: DDR North America[edit]

Sorry, I did not realize that the article only covers the original DDRs. Perhaps there should be something mentioned on that page to differentiate it. I thought that it covered DDR in general, and that it would be best to mention the other versions. --Kiroshi 18:39, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

You should like this article. It has highways and Florida. Its a FAC. I'd appreciate your review, improvements, and support vote (if you feel it is worthy). Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Carl G. Fisher. Mark in Richmond. Vaoverland 21:13, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC)

Re: MBTA template[edit]

I looked at the NYC subway pages you suggested, and I think that the current MBTA template is probably a better fit for the Boston system. I like the fact that the line colors are clearly indicated by the MBTA templates: that approach works well for a system where the lines are named for colors (as opposed to the NYC system, where the lines are identified by letter or number).

I actually did figure out how to display Green Line information properly for stations on the branch lines: you can see an example at Longwood (MBTA station). You do have to do a bit more manual editing than you would with the Green Line template, but this seems to fit the model used with other MBTA station pages. I'd be inclined to leave things the way they are, since I think the current model works pretty well. --Jimby

I saw your removal of the TFD notice and your corresponding question on WP:AN. I wish I had seen the TFD discussion in time to vote on it. In a nutshell, the Template:dbc and Template:deletebecauseoncommons should be used only in limited circumstances: deleting PD images is fine, but deleting GFDL images is not, for the reasons outlined on Wikipedia talk:Moving images to the Commons. See also the associated project page for a partial list of related categories, templates, and other pages. Not only is moving images to the Commons tricky in and of itself, the discussion of these issues has proved somewhat difficult, because it is spread out across several talk pages. I'm hoping that once we have established a procedure for moving media files to the Commons, we can get rid of the current templates and associated category. Cheers, --MarkSweep 22:02, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)

New York City[edit]

Sorry I archived your comment. No offense intended, and your point is a good one. Kaisershatner 23:18, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Why are you moving this article? --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 04:29, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Then the listing should be City, State instead of a specific service. Listing as a specific service gives the impression that only the one service runs to the station, which fo multi service stations would be a misinformation, espically if the service that you list is the minor of the 2 service that operate at the station. And that you give the impression that SEPTA owns the station, which it does not, it's owed by Amtrak. Anyway it should stay as the as is and have a disambig notice to others, is it would be the more known Wilmington Rail Station, being that it Sit on the NE corodor. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 04:36, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Well Yeah it's real name is Wilmington Station, but i dont see articles like Union Station (VRE & MARC), or Pennsylvania Station (NJT & MetroNorth & LIRR), or 30th St Station (SEPTA). Plus i see not aother Wiliming rail article, or link pointing to this artilce. I am gonna move it back as long at you keep on putting up this inaccurate title. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 04:47, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)
And yet Park Street is not served by anyone but MBTA. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 05:00, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Because i like to see us get away from calling it an amtrak or a septa or wahtever station unless it tis a "single service" station, that way the article name is not giving prefrence to one type of service or another or confusing of ownership, maybe Wilmintgon Station (Delaware) would be a better use, as their is only one Wilmington Station in the state of Delaware, and it poits away from other stations of similar names but in different states. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 05:09, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)
You just answerd your own question. --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 05:19, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Umm no I never stated that. All i am saying is that in the name of an article for an rail station with more then one "service" threw it that the names of the said services in it should be left out, as to not to infer that
  1. That this is the only service that calls on this station
  2. that the comapny that runs the service is the owner of the station when another company that runs sevices threw the station owes it
  3. that their is not another station in said city has addational services going threw it apart from the ones listed in the title of the the said station.

That is why i am stick by my propsal for the station to be called Wilimington Station (Delaware) or [[Wilmington Rail Station Delaware) --Boothy443 | comhrÚ 05:30, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

POV[edit]

(from b:User:AlbertCahalan)

I don't think a cookbook is anything like wikipedia. Especially when POV is positive ("this is yummy"), it is appropriate.

Open any normal paper cookbook. I have one here, in fact called "The Recipe Encyclopedia" so POV concerns would apply here if anywhere, and on the first page I turn to: "Baked cheesecake is delicious served simply with its sour cream topping, but it also lends itself to a variety of rich fruit, nut and cream extravaganzas." All throughout, the cookbook is telling you what is tasty and what it goes well with. This is nothing unusual; every cookbook I've ever seen is this way.

real maple syrup[edit]

How can you say "personally I hate maple syrup"? It is wonderful!

Perhaps you have never tried real maple syrup, or you've gotten addicted to the sugar in fake maple syrup.

Real maple syrup is not very sweet. Fake maple syrup is very sweet. Real maple syrup has a complex and interesting flavor. It's a concentrated juice from a tree. Fake maple syrup is likely to be flavored with the one most critical chemical, ignoring all the others that make maple syrup interesting.

Three things[edit]

  • Do not vandalise templates, like you did to {{LibDem}}. It's not funny, it just makes work. If you think it ought to be deleted, as others clearly do, then go to Wikipedia:Templates for Deletion and leave a note there.
  • Archive your user talk page. This makes it smaller, and takes less time to load. Eg, cut and paste the first month or two into a User talk:SPUI/Archive1, and link to that at the top of your talkpage with the dates it goes to and from.
  • Make your userpage less stupid. Self explanatory really.

RfC on RickK[edit]

Hi, thanks for your note, and sorry for not being around before the RfC against RickK was filed. Regarding Waking the Tiger, I have put that one behind me and since the article has been undeleted, I regard that dispute as "solved". Since that was the only issue on the RfC where I have been involved, and I consider that issue resolved, I cannot certify the summary. Incidentally I think that RickK was within his rights to argue against undeletion, even though he was totally wrong on that issue in my opinion.

As for endorsing the summary... I have concerns about a rather meager attempt to resolve the issue with a discussion on RickK's talkpage. Also, there seems to be two articles concerned, and I feel that filing RfCs over this is a somewhat drastic approach. Therefore I have not endorsed the summary either. Instead, I decided to endorse Outside view #2 (the "back off" view).

RickK is probably the one user on Wikipedia I have disagreed most with. However, filing RfCs should be reserved for serious cases of disruption or incivility, and this one does not seem to be one of them. I feel RfCs against users are used too often, in fact, the only time I have really been upset with one of RickK's actions was when he endorsed an RfC against Kappa, an RfC which had absolutely no basis.

But thanks for dropping me a note and letting me know!

re: my vote(s) on RickK's RfC[edit]

Well, frankly, you seemed to be turning a question of policy into a personal referendum on RickK and I wasn't totally comfortable with that. I still maintain that the policy is on our side, and not RickK's, but I don't believe he was operating in bad faith. Given that, I feel that the most prudent course of action is clarification of policy and (perhaps) a change in said policy if called for. I hope you'll join me in trying to get consensus on the clarification. --Dante Alighieri | Talk 18:25, Apr 27, 2005 (UTC)

Pandeism vfd[edit]

Please consider changing your vote on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Pandeism to a "redirect" to pantheism. I believe I have adduced sufficient referential evidence to show that this article was not "original research," but simply an uncommon use of a term that is most commonly used as a reference to a word of similar construction. It's very easy for those not acquainted with religous details to confuse "theism" with "deism", after all, so this would be a useful redirect. I apologize for having overestimated the importance of the use of this term with which I had been made familiar. It was, after all, one of my first posts, when I was new to Wikipedia and not yet familiar with the criteria for notability. -- 8^D BD2412gab 06:16, 2005 Apr 29 (UTC)

  • Forget the above. I have found conclusive evidence of the use of the term "Pandeism" dating back to 1833 [3], being used by Godfrey Higgins, a follower of John Toland, the creator of pantheism.[4]. The term is used in a book written by Higgins called the Anacalypsis. -- 8^D BD2412gab 10:27, 2005 Apr 29 (UTC)

the proposal[edit]

You are kidding, right? I restored the original page. If Gene Nygaard wants to make his own proposal, he should create a new page, not duplicate my page. My page was first, it stays. Slrubenstein | Talk 19:48, 16 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Look, if I did things the wrong way, I am sorry. And if you can fix it, by all means do so. But I just insist on one thing: Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/BCE-CE Debate was the proposal I made yesterday, after having spent a whole day working on it. Gene Nygaard created Wikipedia:A proposal re BCE-CE Debate and redirected my proposal to that page so he could change the proposal and confuse people. In effect, he deleted my proposal and that was wrong. All I wanted to do was restore what he had deleted. I compared the two carefully and copied any thing different from the second to the first. But please do not tell me I should have done it the other way around. For one thing, it would have taken much more time. In fact, the first thing I tried was to take the new proposal and delete all the duplicated and out-of-order passages that apparently were created by a bug. I spent an hour doing it, and while the edit history reflected my work, the proposal page remained unchainged, that is, in a mess. But most important, he also changed my proposal in order to weaken it. He disagrees with my proposal but it is not enough for him to express himself in the discussion section and vote no, he had to vandalize the proposal itself so that it did not say waht I was actually proposing. It would be a travesty to keep that second, damaged version, and simply to accept his deletion (in effect) of the proposal I crafted yesterday. Slrubenstein | Talk 20:09, 16 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way to restore the history of my article? Slrubenstein | Talk 20:11, 16 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I will not delete those images if you pledge that you will not vandalize other wikis with them. And yes, we know that it was you. So, will you promise that?--Eloquence* July 5, 2005 01:55 (UTC)

I will unblock you from Wikinews if you pledge to stop vandalizing - and not just Wikinews, but any Wikimedia wiki. WP:POINT is a matter of general principle, not just a policy specific to the English Wikipedia. I have cleaned up vandalism intended for "fun" which had lingered in an article for weeks on end. Wilfully attacking the integrity of a site like Wikinews is not fun. And whatever you think of Sep11 wiki, it is a site intended to be a memorial for the 2,986 people who were killed on September 11, 2001. It is visited by relatives of those who were murdered in these attacks and who try to find a place for them to express their grief. Putting stuffed animals on the frontpage is in extremely poor taste, and you should apologize for it.--Eloquence* July 5, 2005 02:42 (UTC)

Hi SPUI. The decision you made on this VFD debate was the "correct" one, but since you were involved in the debate, I would recommend that you do not close it. (Wikipedia:Deletion_process says that you should not close those debates you have participated in, although I personally give some leeway for closers who declare the result as "keep", when they voted "delete". According to the US Census; Lake Buena Vista is shown an "incorporated city". Go to "search", type in the place name, and the results will be shown LBV as a city according to the laws of the states.

Remember, few places are incorporated under special cirumstances and few do not have typical "municipal style" governments; see neighboring Bay Lake.

Metatroll[edit]

Hi there! I must say I was largely unaware of the GNAA before the (sixth?) VFD recently started. But what has happened since then is simply amazing. Rather than simply trolling Wikipedia, the GNAA has somehow been meta-trolling and has convinced Wikipedia to troll itself - as evidenced by the recent plethora of GNAA-related pages and requests for deletion thereof, AND requests for deletion thereof. I find this wonderfully ironic and more than a little hilarious. I can hardly say to keep up the good work (or possibly, bad work) but this may prove good medicine for people who take WP way to seriously. So cheers, and have a good laugh! Yours, Radiant_>|< 09:10, July 20, 2005 (UTC)

No Problem!!!....[edit]

Hey, no problem, I was totally surprised that the area around Walt Disney belonged to any incorporated land. But when I first got into comparing cities and unincorporated places, There were quite a few places that I thought were inorporated, to find out later that they're not.

Take Honolulu for example; I didn't know that the census treated Honolulu as an "unincorporated place" even though, it's technically co-extensive with Honolulu County. (Honolulu is the "only" incorporated city in Hawaii).

Another place that changed dramatically was the unincorporated community of East Blythe, California. According to the census, the community's population fell from 1,511 in 1990 to only 3 in 2000 due to the annexing by Blythe city. This was a big shocker for me. (Although Census Designated Places are hard to figure out and perdict).

My reply to your comment about the IRC incident that you wrote at Kmccoy's RFA[edit]

Here's the sequence of events, as I remember them: Someone (possibly Snowspinner, not sure) kickbanned and then unbanned soon after (long enough for the autorejoin to fail) a user who had been lurking and was suspected of being a Scientologist logging the channel, and was apparently in the same IP range as Scientologists. (It turned out to be a newbie who was puzzled at being kicked.) Kmccoy argued that this was rather over the top, and said that he could send the Scientologists logs and nothing could be done about it. Snowspinner then removed his channel op priveleges. --SPUI (talk) 07:33, 30 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

SPUI, I'm terribly sorry, but I'm afraid you got the whole IRC thing the wrong way round. It was I, not Snowspinner, who kick-ban-unbanned the user; it wasn't particularly that we thought he was a Scientologist, but more that the user had been logged on for something like 75 hours without any activity, and had an auto-rejoin on, so we assumed that the user may have been a logger and kick-ban-unbanned the user just so that the user is no longer on channel (not denying channel access, or performing any kind of disciplinary procedure - after all, it is meant to be a channel for chatting). As you rightly pointed out, the user was a newbie, and I apologised to said user and explained the situation. Kmccoy was upset about the fact that I'd kicked a perfectly innocent user off the channel, and said that he might as well send logs to anyone who might wish to collect them (using the Church of Scientology as an example, as we've been having some trouble with CoS-related personnel lately). Snowspinner only removed Kmccoy's ops for about 15 minutes just to prove his point; he gave them back afterwards, and didn't mean any harm by doing so. The ultimate irony of the scenario is, after all, the fact that I am a Scientologist. --NicholasTurnbull 17:09, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Asking for support[edit]

Hello, since you are interested in maps I thought hat you might support our letter to Centre for Cartography, Vilnius University. We are asking to release their maps found at www.balticdata.info under GFDL licence so they could be used in articles about Lithuania. So far we got 14 people to "sign" it. The draft in very very rough English is available at user:Renata3/letter. If you decide to support it, I'll need just your first and last names together with your user name. You can leave it on my talk page or send it via email: just attact @gmail.com to my user name. Renata3 22:26, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

InfoMI Webpages[edit]

You say the InfoMi webpages don't add anything to the articles. I couldn't disagree more. Other than the maps showing the location of the corresponding county, there are no photographs, and bookmarking the webpages gives the articles pictures and, in some cases, some extra info the Wiki articles don't. I feel it's a mistake removing the webpages.

Deleted image[edit]

Hi SPUI. Yes I realised my mistake last night and started screaming profanities whilst thinking of what to do (but then I fell asleep at my keyboard :-S). However, I see the image has been restored somehow (although still unsourced) and I guess I should slow down a bit when sorting through the images!? I wanted to ask you about the fair use images on Rhode Island State Highways/Map sources. They don't seem to be linked to from any pages at the moment, so I was asking you what they were used for. I was wondering if the "fair use" ones could be deleted if they are no longer used. Thanks. --Fastfission 15:49, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I was just wondering. The difficulty is of course that Rand McNally would be able to claim that they were being defrauded by this as people could use these instead of their wonderful atlases, but I find that pretty unlikely (especially since they'd be hard to print out) so I'm willing to not worry about it. --Fastfission 15:57, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I didn't realize that it was so out of date and useful only as a historical reference of sorts. I think that makes it pretty safe since there isn't really any market for outdated maps. ;-) --Fastfission 16:01, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

According to the AFD of this article: The result of the debate was delete.

Since someone recreates it, it's now a redirect? This is a chronically re-created article, at least that was what I got from a cursory glance at it. True; {{bike-stub}} is not a stub type in the sense that it is not a message indicating that an article is a stub; it is a template redirect under the jurisdiction of RFD. (That reasoning may appeal to some of the "process" voters at WP:VFU.) Wikiacc (talk) 19:10, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

DJ Amuro[edit]

For the song Mei on Happy Sky (credited to "Amuro vs Killer"), the scrolling LED marquee calls it "MEI(TAKASH)". As we know Killer is Tatsh, this would seem to suggest Taka + Tatsh, implying that Taka is Amuro. In any case, things like this suggest that it is *someone's* psuedonym, and I have yet to see any evidence pointing towards it being anyone but Taka (and even something as conjectural as what I'm presenting here beats no evidence to the contrary). Considering that people basically accepted Amuro being Taka as a 'fact' long before even this evidence was available, and I see no reason not to believe that, I'm not sure why you're holding out so steadfastly on this specific issue. Nonetheless, maybe this will convince you?

You don't have to sacrifice your full size image. Simply make a smaller version of it specifically for displaying thumbnailed in articles, and on that thumbnail page, link to the full size version. Please do not take it upon yourself to blank out the information at George Alexander (US Army soldier) and make it a redirect, as you have already done 9 times, this is a form of vandalism. Judeofascism[edit]

Please do not restore this again. You've misunderstood how AfD works. People vote on the title, not on the current contents, which can always be changed. It's only if voters feel the title is, say, inherently POV, or that it could never be encyclopedic because of the lack of good sources, that they vote to delete. If they vote to keep, it's up to the editors on the page whether it should stay as an article or become a redirect, just as all content decisions are up to the editors on the page at any given time. People voted to delete Judeofascism, as a title, which is why you can't restore it without going through deletion review. If you restore it again, you may be blocked for disruption. SlimVirgin (talk) 02:40, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You've misunderstood AfD. Once a title is deleted, it can't be unilaterally restored to be either a page with text on it, or a page with the word "redirect" on it. It has to go through deletion review, which is why Ta bu has nominated it. Please allow that process to take place without pre-empting its decision. SlimVirgin (talk) 02:47, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
No, look: suppose a completely unknown person is suddenly elected to a senior political position, and I create an article on him, and it's terrible: full of errors, no sources, bad writing. You see it, try to delete the contents and start again, but I keep reverting you. According to your view of AfD, you could then nominate it for deletion, and people might vote to delete it on the basis of the current contents being terrible. But of course that wouldn't happen, because the guy would be notable, so everyone would vote to keep, regardless of the current contents. When people vote on AfD, they are not voting on the current contents. AfD has no control over the normal editing process i.e. page content. They control only which pages exist i.e. which titles exist. If a title is kept, it's up to editors to decide what to put on the page. If it is deleted, it has to go through deletion review, whether you want to write the word "redirect" on it, or a whole article. SlimVirgin (talk) 02:58, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Those are the speedy delete rules. Not the same thing. This article wasn't speedied. It went through an AfD where people voted overwhelmingly to delete the title. But please don't post to my page and to deletion review, because I'm having to write everything twice. Please just read the deletion policy and let the review take place. Why are you so keen to pre-empt it? SlimVirgin (talk) 03:09, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:Deletion policy. SlimVirgin (talk) 03:14, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
This is becoming ridiculous. Read the policy. "Deleted pages can be restored, by administrators, if and only if there is support on Wikipedia:Votes for undeletion, or the page was speedily deleted out-of-process." Ta bu, who is an experienced admin, started that process. He would not have done so had he been allowed simply to recreate it as a redirect. Please stop making me repeat myself. A vote is underway. Please respect it! SlimVirgin (talk) 03:33, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

First off, we had a page written by a 13 year old girl claiming to be the person that invented "Shpants", saying that it was invented in October 2005, when in reality the term had been in use since 1997, but was more commonly called "Three Quarter Pants". We investigated and found out that "Shants" and "Shpants" (meaning "Short pants") were 2 common alternative names.

So I went and wrote "Three Quarter Pants" halfway through the AFD, and Peyna made Shants redirect to 3/4 pants rather than shorts, and made Shpants an exact copy of Three Quarter Pants. It is a word, proven to be, it just wasn't invented in October 2005 by some 13 year old girl. Quite a simple thing.

Everyone bar the person who nominated it for deletion agreed on a redirect.

The closer somehow missed the "or" votes and went and deleted it. 5:3 is a no consensus anyway so I don't know what is going on there.

I went and made it a redirect, rather than going through the undeletion issue. I did the same thing for Satan Worshipping when we had the exact same issue, and nobody cared about that. Its the same issue. How popular a name is is irrelevant when making a redirect. Just so long as some people use it. Satan Worshipping means Devil Worshipping and Shpants means 3/4 pants. Simple.

Then the guy who nominated it for deletion put it up for speedy deletion on the basis of "recreating previously deleted content". Wait on - but previously there was an article. This was just a redirect. I wrote to him on his talk page, and the guy wouldn't listen to reason. And then to top it all off, it actually got speedied. Since when? There's no rationale for it. I asked him to remove his speedy request, and he wouldn't do it.

So I go in to deletion review, cos there's no choice now. I mean having to go to deletion review over a redirect is stupidity personified.

Everyone agrees that its an open and shut case. Except that WAIT ON there's no published sources that says that Shpants is the name! OH NO! That means it doesn't warrant its own article! OH NO! But it does still warrant its own redirect. Of course it doesn't warrant its own article. We know that. Well, unless we accept that Shpants/Shants means 1 leg shorts and 1 leg pants - in which case it does. But I only saw one reference for that, so I am not accepting it. And of course then sometimes 3/4 pants are used to mean capri pants.

But then in comes the back patting. "Yes, yes, good job". "Support our fellow admins". "Get rid of the vandal". etc. Sometimes I think that these people don't have brains. They just go around with a brain sucker sitting on their heads telling them what to do, and they all work as one being.

I find it funny anyway.

You should have seen the personal attacks that I got from the other 3 articles I nominated for undeletion. Oh no. Its like the worst possible thing that you can do to suggest that an admin did something wrong - ESPECIALLY if there's proof that they did! Oh man I got a talk page full of abuse from those 3. Actually, I tried reverting without using rollback but for some reason even from the older version of the redirect it wouldn't bring it up in the edit page. Honestly, try checking out the talk page for the discussion. .:.Jareth.:. babelfish 02:46, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Articles Needing Attention[edit]

Hi! I'm going through the articles in need of attention page and removing any user pages I see. Let's face it-no one knows as much about the user as the user themself! The pages needing attention tag is best reserved for articles that others may know about. In other words, the tag is best used on articles. As for your user page, looks ok to me! I hope you enjoy Wikipedia! KC. 18:23, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops! I didn't realize __NOTOC__ would have that effect on the whole page. So sorry for the trouble I've caused. —Keenan Pepper 23:30, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Dick[edit]

Quote: Please don't be a dick.

The subject "you" is understood because this is a command. Throw out the "please" and it becomes "You don't be a dick." It implies that I am. Please a) increase your vocabulary and b) don't use profanity such as "dick" and comment on content, not the contributor. As much as you can try to make excuses they won't fly with me. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 06:35, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

So being a dick isn't a personal attack and being a WikiNazi is? (I was called the latter and it was considered a personal attack.) --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 06:51, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You've called 3 people dicks. None of them have accepted your phrase. That phrase is "generally accepted"? --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 06:57, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I am not being a dick here. I will continue to revert "Don't be a dick" until I get tired of it, then if you really want it on my talk page you must want it as evidence or something. Considering that none of the other users involved have responded to me with similar comments, I do not believe I am being a dick. Since you won't admit the PA, there really is not much to discuss right here. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 07:13, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User:Karmafist/Stub Petition. Oh, and if you'd like me to help you bury the hatchet with a large number of the people at the top of the page, please let me know. Trust me, whatever you might think, they're not bad at all IMO, and not bad at all compared to the real obnoxious people around here(the stub people, the revert warriors, the sewer mutants, etc.) It was probably just a misundering of your unique approach to Wikipedia.karmafist 08:02, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding stubs[edit]

SPUI,

I've done some low level work with the stub sorting project, mostly just sorting out category {{stub}} in to other categories. I really do believe that the categories will encourage editors to expand the stubs to fuller articles. I try not to be to involved with the politics of the stub sorting project much though, there probally is room for improvement. I respect your choice to not use stub categories, but am glad that you will still mark stub articles as stubs at all, even if using the generic stub category. The debate over the stub types and their management is getting pretty heated, and the last thing we need is angry editors, on either side; afterall we are all trying to build a better encyclopedia.
I am writing to you today to ask you to consider changing your signature advocating the non-use of stub categories. It seems that you think that the categories may be useful, although you don't like their management, however I don't think you were in favor of removing all of the categories. If someone is familiar with, or wants to become familiar with, the stub categoreis, using them saves editing time of stub sorters, freeing them up for actual editing; if they are not then they will be using stub anyway.
Hopefully this has not come off as argumentitive, I'm trying to be civil in this, and won't pursue this further then this thread.
Thanks for your time, xaosflux Talk/CVU 18:57, 23 December 2005 (UTC) If replying here, please drop me a short note on my talk page to come check, my watchlist is rather full. [reply]

I, FREAK OF NURxTURE, award this Barnstar of Diligence to SPUI for publicly acknowledging the recent uselessness of SFD.

SFD considered harmful?[edit]

SPUI, I appreciate the fact that you've brought this subject to a central discussion on the village pump. Even though I disagree with your proposals, it may well turn out that consensus supports them. However, in the meantime you should realize that bypassing your own discussion thread to create a dozen template redirects that you knew in advance many people would disagree with, is disruption to make a point. As such, I've blocked you for 24 hours; please don't do that again, and use the various discussion processes instead. Radiant_>|< 03:41, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My recommendations on the RFC[edit]

I'm not in the habit of commenting on other people's votes, but I'll make an exception. Maybe I didn't make it clear enough, but "there is a large number of editors who disagree" is meant to mean that there's no consensus for doing things that way. Doesn't that automatically make it a Bad Thing? Zocky 02:14, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We can help each other get this template back. I made a backup of every single userbox on wikipedia just in case another admin decided they were above the law. Here is the code....

page moves[edit]

Do you really have to move pages that fast (more than 47 per minute)? -- Curps 17:04, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's easier to go through in one go, as I can copy-paste the summary. Please unblock the IP autoblocks. --SPUI (talk - don't use sorted stub templates!) 17:05, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK. However, you had more than one IP autoblock... is that your ISP using multiple proxies? Can you clarify exactly how you're doing the moves so that they wind up being simultaneous... how does the tabbed browser do that? -- Curps 17:11, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea about the several autoblocks - I have one fixed IP. As for the moves, I went through the tabs and pasted the summaries, then went back to the first, double clicked Highway, pasted Route, and hit enter, and did the same for each tab. --SPUI (talk - don't use sorted stub templates!) 17:14, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So you go from one tab to the next clicking Enter, one by one? You're not pressing one button and the browser somehow submits everything simultaneously... you need to manually click to each tab and hit Enter in each one? And doing this, you manage to reach a speed of 70 moves per minute?? -- Curps 17:43, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - it's ctrl-tab to the next tab, double click on Highway (always in the same place), ctrl-V to paste, and enter to submit. After a few of them it takes less than a second each. --SPUI (talk - don't use sorted stub templates!) 17:46, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm trying to visualize the finger and hand movements described above (especially the double click) and I have trouble picturing how you could do it manually without a macro, 70–80 times in a row at a rate under one per second. It's not a race against time after all. -- Curps 18:14, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Right hand on the mouse, left hand on the left side of the keyboard. Right hand moves off the mouse to hit the numpad enter. --SPUI (talk - don't use sorted stub templates!) 18:15, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes[edit]

My head is spinning, since, for the past fifteen minutes or so, I have been trying to figure out why a template for furry wikipedians is 'disruptive' to Wikipedia, whereas other fetish userboxes seem to be accepted. I still have not found a conclusion, other than either the guy has some issues, or he's just suffering from testosterone/ego poisoning. I really can't see why these templates are apparently trojan horses, waiting to subvert wikipedia. Even a template saying 'I am a gravy telephone bone' is not distruptive; it's just self-description, albeit an unusual one. --It's-is-not-a-genitive 01:50, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
