Copyright violation[edit]

Hi, it's me from IRC. I like your photo. I was just checking out your creations and such and noticed something: a copyright violation. Please do not copy paste content. That is a copyright violation and could lead to you being blocked from editing. I reverted one instance. Are there others? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 15:40, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Thanks for letting me know. I had edited some content and also given references to the articles I created. I would appreciate if you could have a look at the following and patroll them:

--SajjadF (talk) 15:44, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
At article Al ITRAH BROADCASTING NETWORK TELEVISION, "...aims to satisfy listeners' needs in order to maintain majority market share through quality programming..." is copy pasted verbatim from I see no other copyright violations. Please always rewrite in your own words. Also, I think the correct title for the article is Al Itrah Broadcasting Network Television or something like that. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 15:55, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

How do I change the title to "Al Itrah Broadcasting Network Television" - please help on this --SajjadF (talk) 15:56, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

I can do it for you. Pick one:
Al Itrah Broadcasting Network Television
Al itrah Broadcasting Network Television
Al-itrah Broadcasting Network Television
Anna Frodesiak (talk) 16:01, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

This would be better: Al Itrah Broadcasting Network Television Thanks :) --SajjadF (talk) 16:09, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Please don't forget to remove the copy paste from that article. Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 16:15, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

You are very lucky to be in Tanzania. Lots of people are stuck in places like America and North Korea.

Now, you're in Tanzania and also have a camera right? Well, I'm in China and have a camera. One thing I do, is take photos of ordinary objects for articles. Whether it's sofa, parking meter, tool, or teapot, almost all articles have Western lead images. This is English Wikipedia, not Western Wikipedia. So, to counter systemic bias, I like to add images from other countries. And guess what? They stick. The community likes them because it makes the project's images more diverse. Would you be interested in adding such photos? Plus, there are zillions of other photos related to Tanzania that we really need.

Of course, such images must be without the copyright mark I notice on some of your lovely images. :) The copyright watermark isn't allowed. Plus, they are not a good idea because people will come along and crop the photo smaller or replace the copyright name with a block of colour and despoil your image.

If you like, come on IRC sometime. :)

Best wishes,

Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:44, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Hey, Yes - thats a great idea !! Since, Im a photographer, I'd really like doing that. Nothing is better than having your photos appreciated as a photographer. I'd like to discuss more on this so as to know how to go about it and how to identify what photos are needed. --SajjadF (talk) 02:34, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

New Page Patrolling[edit]

Hi Sajjad, I noticed you have been doing some new page patrolling, which is great! My one concern is I've seen messages to the author that are limited to "expand it". That doesn't come across as friendly and formatting it almost like an order could be considered biting a new editor. Ryan Vesey 19:03, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

Sure, Will welcome the editors and explain in more detail --SajjadF (talk) 18:44, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for trying to keep Wikipedia free of vandalism. However, one or more edits you labeled as vandalism, such as the edit at Kay Quattrocchi, are not considered vandalism under Wikipedia policy. Wikipedia has a stricter definition of the word "vandalism" than common usage, and mislabeling edits as vandalism can discourage newer editors. Please read Wikipedia:NOTVAND for more information on what is and is not considered vandalism. Thank you. Note that providing sources for biographies of living persons is a policy on Wikipedia. Adding a template encouraging editors to provide these sources is the process established within the community in accordance with the deletion policy. The template serves to inform editors that the article will be deleted if the sources are not provided within ten days. Al-Aqsa Mosque[edit]

Hello, I wanted to let you know that I have reverted the edit you made to this article. You have used Twinkle and tagged my edit as vandalism but if you check the article history you'll see that I have maintained the article against an I.P. that was removing all of the Hebrew references and leaving the Arabic references in. This is a clear violation of WP:NPOV as this location is in Jerusalem, which is an important site to several religions. Please do not remove any more of these references without providing a rationale in the edit summary or on the talk page, Thanks. Alex J Fox (Talk) (Contribs) 17:18, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

You are not allowed to remove the arabic references either as this makes no difference between you and the person you were correcting. Muslims don't recognize the "temple mount". It is believed that the Al- Aqsa mosque is the mosque itself and the surrounding area. If you want to use it as temple mount, then say "temple mount" according to jews and aqsa according to muslims. Besides there is an article about the temple mount, ( You might want to make edits there. Let us not be biased here. Thanks

I believe you need to check my edits, at no point have I removed any arabic references, My reverts were done to restore both the hebrew and arabic references when they were removed by an IP address to bias the article. I also had to revert vandalism to the Temple Mount article as the same IP address had vandalised that page. The Al-Aqsa article is subject to an arbitration ruling as listed on it's talk page. You have broken the 1RR rule on that talk page by making 2 reverts within 24 hours to the article. I'm sorry, this is really nothing personal but I'll have to report this as I feel the article is biased only when the hebrew translations are removed. Alex J Fox (Talk) (Contribs) 23:06, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

You should have kept it as al - aqsa mosque / temple mount. Replacing the word Al - Aqsa with temple mount is clearly being biased with the judaism side of the argument. In terms, of reporting me. I did what was right to keep the article unbiased and i had to correct what you did wrong. Read what i posted on your talk page. It will explain the unbiased view.

Enayatollah Atashi[edit]

Dear Sajjad, about this article I should say I don't agree with you. This article is about a coach who has been head couch of Iran national basketball team, strongest team in Asia, isn't it enough for having an article? Soroush90gh (talk) 18:15, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Al-Aqsa Mosque[edit]

SajjadF, please stop making edits to this article until you have read all relevant policy pages. This is a sensitive article that is subject to an arbitration committee remedy. You have already been reported under the One-revert rule and you agreed to cease reverting the article until consensus was reached on the articles talk page. By your own admission you have not read the relevant policies and have continued to disruptively edit this article, dismissing any edits you disagree with as vandalism.

Also, this behaviour is completely inappropriate and I strongly suggest you refrain from posting anything like this again. Alex J Fox (Talk) (Contribs) 20:17, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

A point[edit]

Did you look who created Mojtaba Mobini Pour? Same chap that created Shahin Shafie. I've deleted it as a test page, as possibly he was using it as a template. Perhaps the other article needs investigating too - I've not much knowledge of UK football, never mind Iranian... Peridon (talk) 19:03, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Since you are an experienced editor, I would like to ask you, I have come accross many new pages which just have a one line or very small paragraph about a football player and the reference is or some website that apparently has a database of players. I don't put them up for deletion because apparently the players do exist. I was wondering though, can I put these pages for deletion under "Not significant person" or Do we just leave it ?? (Wiki will end up being a database of soccer players) How do you decide which "person" is important enough. --SajjadF (talk) 19:09, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

WP:ATHLETE contains the notability criteria for various types. I agree about the football players (all sets of rules) and would add articles that consist of a title (an album name), and a track listing. If in doubt, try AfD for a particularly non-notable one and see what happens. If they don't meet the criteria - and it's damned hard to find what the status of some leagues actually is - CSD them. If they don't have references, use PROD. If you think an editor is creating loads of articles about non-notables (that is, very obviously amateur players), contact an admin (and tag the articles). Peridon (talk) 19:31, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
Good idea, I will follow these guidelines, Thanks :) --SajjadF (talk) 19:33, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
If you find one that doesn't exist, tag for hoax, of course. Do check carefully, especially the professional as opposed to semi-pro status of leagues. If they have ever played in a fully pro league, they will probably not be taggable, no matter where they're playing at the moment. If they play for one of the top clubs like Liverpool, Everton, Man U or Man C, but haven't risen above reserves or academy level, they can be tagged. Be careful with Gaelic Football - that's purely amateur but still has notable clubs and players. Best leave it well alone (like I do...). University and college teams are often notable, but players are usually not unless they have something else that passes WP:BIO. Takes a while to get really familiar with all the policies and twiddly bits. I've been here since 2008 mainly working in CSD, and I'm still learning. Peridon (talk) 20:05, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
Hey, Could you help me by arranging my user boxes. I can't seem to arrange them or group them well. Thanks --SajjadF (talk) 21:29, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
In a word, no. I've never managed it myself. I put up a message "This user is looking for a sheepdog (or boxer) to herd userboxes gently", and after a couple of years three people tackled the problem (and ruined my doggy joke...). One succeeded, but I can't remember who it was. Just tried to see who, but the history of my page is a bit complicated with vandals being reverted and people reorganising things. If you look through the history, you might work it out. Could have been User:Jeraphine Gryphon whose page says he/she has retired, but still seems to be editing. I hope they haven't - they've been keeping my archives in the right places. I'll be in a mess if they've gone. I see you've got one of mine - it was designed to be nicked... Peridon (talk) 21:49, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

A tip[edit]

to do with a post further up the page concerning a novel. CreateSpace is Amazon's self-publishing arm, and anything published through them is automatically of little notability, as are things published through lulu, Xlibris, AuthorHouse, PublishAmerica and their overseas branches, and quite a few that I can't remember off the top of my head (but recognise instantly on sight...). For a self-published book (or author) to be notable is rare, and requires exceptionally good references - which, as they don't get reviewed in the big papers and magazines, is not forthcoming. People look at the quoted profit margins at the self-publishing outfits, and at what you get through a regular publisher. They don't realise how much work a good publisher does to get books on shelves, and reviews in the papers. Virtually impossible to do all by oneself. Being listed at Amazon is valueless for our purposes - they list almost anything. Not being listed at Amazon (for a newish book) means that the author has given a copy to his aunt, and sold three to friends, and then thinks he'll advertise here for free to try to sell the other sixteen copies he's got hanging around. Feel free to ask me about deletion stuff - not that I'm guaranteeing to answer everything. I usually know someone who does know the things I don't, though. Peridon (talk) 19:23, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

I think my question is still pending about articles on soccer players. Please read above. Thanks. --SajjadF (talk) 19:30, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa[edit]

I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.

If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page:

Isra and Mi'raj[edit]

I undid your edit to Isra and Mi'raj as the references on the page do not use the proper references (<ref>blah, blah, blah</ref>) and instead add the reference number [1], [2], [3] directly. As soon as someone adds or deletes a reference(s), the numbers will be incorrect and confusing. This effectively makes the addition "unsourced", unencylopedic, and therefore subject to removal. If you want to add the proper references, please feel free to do so. I am not interested in the subject matter, just keeping Wikipedia encyclopedic. I presume that you desire quality Islamic articles and not encouraging editors turning them into garbage? Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 20:45, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

I hadn't noticed the reference mess up. Well, Im great you pointed that out. Thanks --SajjadF (talk) 05:58, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

No better quality picture available.[edit]

The file: "Manipal, as seen from Manipal Institute of Technology.jpg" is the best quality copy I had with me. That picture was taken from a 2 megapixel fixed focus camera, so yes, I do agree that the quality and clarity is poor. As I'm new to wikipedia, I'll leave it for you to decide whether to remove the image from the article or to keep it there.--Karan (Theintuitus) (talk) 02:15, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

Dear Karan, I have decided to remove the photo due to its low quality & clarity and as you said it's from a 2MP camera as its evident. However, Do not let this deter you. I am gald there are Wikipedians from Manipal. Please continue to make wikipedia better !! --SajjadF (talk) 13:56, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

Re: Help with nomination[edit]

You can nominate your images yourself by going to this link and following the steps given there. You have to create a nomination page for your picture and add the title of the nomination page to the list of candidates for featured picture nomination. It is very easy. If you are still finding it difficult, then I can nominate those for you. Thank You and wish you all the best regarding your nominations! Nikhil (talk) 15:09, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

I'm getting mixed up with the categories. And its almost end of october, will that change my voting. I will highly appreciate if you can nominate them for me. Thanks a lot :) --SajjadF (talk) 15:14, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I have nominated your picture of African bee here. If you have time, please add your vote. Also, I am not convinced about nominating your picture of zebra because I find it a bit soft and slightly noisy. No offence meant, but I am not sure adding this pic to the nominations will result in getting the FP status. Great work with the photography any way! Keep them coming. Thanks! Sunset Article[edit]

Hello, You were one of the folks that spoke up about Alvesgaspar's "ownwership" of the Sunset article. I recently posted this in the talk page, and could use your support. Perhaps you can comment, and also reverse Alvesgaspar, should he reverse me again. This should be a community effort, and I could use your help. Thanks.

I recently replaced the photo: Knysnasunset.jpg, that was only receiving Apox: 150 views per month in Commons, with the photo: Burning Yellow Sunset.jpg, that was receiving upwards of 270 views per month in Commons. Alvesgaspar has reversed me, and had some of his old friends come to his rescue by reversing me, as well as coming to my talk page and threatening me. I intend on holding strong here on solid ground. I made a logical edit that improves the boring red colors on the page, while proving its quality by posting the hits it gets in Commons. The average photo in commons gets around 20 hits a month. Both of the photos in question are far above average. The issue here is the fact that Alvesgaspar is positive that he owns this article. As anyone can read here on this talk page, the community consensus has spoken, and any reversal of my edit by Alvesgaspar or any of his long time friends, will be considered an "Edit War".→Pocketthis (talk) 18:38, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

New deal for page patrollers[edit]

Hi SajjadF,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
