Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Sattriyacritic assam. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 20:07, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is this your only account? Have you used other accounts? The images in the article seem very professionally done, but you claim them as your own work, and mention something about billboards. Please clarify. 331dot (talk) 20:09, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 331dot,

In assam, sattriyakristi initiative has been the flagbearer of popularizing the dance form on the internet. I have been associated with them and contributed immensely since 2011 even with decade old accounts to whom I do not have access to eg. "Sattriyadancer". I currently have access to sattriyacritic assam. I have acquired rights to usage of selective items from sattriyakristi initiative and have even contributed to the whole costume section in the wikipedia sattriya page from their website (https://www.sattriyakristi.com/costume) way back in 2011-2013. I have contributed by uploading the image in conflict after receiving their rights to usage and it being a professionally shot photograph to represent Sattriya, it is even used by Govt of India, Cabinet Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and the Cabinet Minister of AYUSH in the Government of India and at numerous occasions by many. There was no reason for it's replacement. Wikipedia lives for expansion and not reduction of contributions. If any information such as pose description seems missing, it can always be updated, as I did in the last updation. As I see now, the sattriya page is currently looking like a portfolio page and is a deliberate action of (talk), hence the conflict.

Please place posts at the bottom of the page for proper discussion flow. Regarding images, you cannot claim them as your own work unless you personally took the image with your own camera. If someone else took the image, they need to either upload it themselves(with the understanding that they are releasing the image for use by anyone for any purpose, including commercial) or donate the copyright(with the same understanding) per WP:DCP.
Regarding your editing itself, please review conflict of interest, as you have one. You should avoid direct edits to the article and instead propose them on the talk page, as an edit request. 331dot (talk) 22:40, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi 331dot, I am the owner @ sattriyakristi.com and the image in question is a work that I had sanctioned for promotion of the Sattriya in Wikipedia and elsewhere. I am the owner of the image and have uploaded it with CC BY-SA 3.0 license in wiki commons with the correct mention that it is my own work. I do not understand what you meant my reviewing the conflict of interest, I assumed, writing a note here is discussing the same for it's early resolution. Sattriyacritic assam (talk) 05:19, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Typically, the owner of the copyright is the person who took the image. This is the case in the United States(where Wikipedia's servers are physically located and whose law is controlling here). If a contract or other legal arrangement like employment assigns you the copyright, then the source of the image should not say "own work", but something like it being the work of your organization.
The conflict of interest issue is resolved by you disclosing this on your user page, User:Sattriyacritic assam(see WP:COI for how to do that) and by you refraining from directly editing the article(except in the cases listed here) and instead making edit requests for another editor to review. 331dot (talk) 08:32, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi 331dot, I have updated the source in the wiki commons image I uploaded in 2014 as suggested. kindly verify and suggest any other change that is required. Sattriyacritic assam (talk) 15:22, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
