Noteflight article deletion

Hi there -- you appear to have deleted the article on Noteflight on 17 February 2010. The reason you gave for the deletion was ‎"A7: Article about an eligible subject, which does not indicate the importance or significance...". For background, Noteflight is a free online music score writing program that is used by many musicians, kids and teachers, and many similar programs (both open source and commercial) have associated articles on Wikipedia. I would like to ask for your help in restoring the article so that an eligible author can resolve the issue, so that it does not need to be rewritten from scratch. Can you please assist? Thank you!

But the reason it was deleted is because there's nothing in the article that satisfies Wikipedia's Notability guidelines. If you can satisfy that guideline, be my guest at re-adding the article.

Thanks for your help. SatyrTN. I see what you mean, the article is really thin (I didn't write it in the first place). I think a new one will need to be written from scratch and of course will need to conform to the Wikipedia guidelines.

Overcast deletion

The fact that Overcast is a band composed with Killswitch Engage's guitarist and bassist and Shadows Fall's vocalist gives the band enough notability, so to speak, to have an article in Wikipedia. It's been years since the last time I read the notability guide for bands and musical ensembles, but I'm sure if a band/side project is composed with notable musicians, it complies with Wikipedia's notability criteria.--Kmaster (talk) 10:32, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Discussion on speedy deletion of Belgrave (band)

A discussion on the notability of the band Belgrave has been started at User talk:Blanchardb. I think it's only proper that you offer your two cents in as well given that you deleted the page. I included citations to articles published in print journals and you still deleted my entry. PPI Assessment wants you!

hi, you signed up to help assess LGBT related articles on the project. (More of them need to be tagged as well.) But are you interested in assessing other articles? Because this project is a little bit different than other Wikiprojects especially in assessment. There is more information about it on the talk page but basically you would assess about 8-10 specific articles approximately once a month. Other people would assess the same articles and I will be doing some analysis of the assessments to learn things about article assessment in Wikipedia. Like do subject matter experts rate differently than Wikipedians? What is the best way to measure article quality? How does this article quality assessment compare with the results from the new article feedback tool? If you would like to be involved, you participation would be very appreciated. Hi SatyrTN, recently you signed up to help with assessment on Wikiproject: United States Public Policy. This project is probably different than other assessment drives you have worked on, it involves more assessment of lower ranked articles, it has input and staff from the foundation, and specific goals to improve and measure content of public policy articles. It also involves collaboration from some university classes, we are using an experimental assessment rubric, and most articles will be assessed by multiple reviewers to get a range of scores for each article. It's a lot to digest, and totally understandable if it's not what signed up for. However, there are also some exciting perks to this project: 1) your assessments are part of research that is attempting to increase credibility of Wikipedia in academic circles, 2) there is a great group of assessors involved in discussion of what is article quality and how to measure it, 3) WP:USPP is also piloting the Article Feedback tool, so those involved in assessment on the project will be asked to help improve and rate this tool as well, 4) subject matter experts are assessing articles alongside Wikipedians and comparisons of results will provide some insight as to the rigor of Wikipedia quality rating, and 5) other interesting benefits you will find with participation.

The first group of articles requesting your assessment has been posted. I was hoping to do a preliminary comparison of the data on 8 October 2010. The second assessment request, which is part of the same comparison, will go out about the same time. To help with organization, if you haven't posted any assessment scores on your assessment page by 8 October 2010, I will delete your assessment request and you will not receive further requests. I hope the unusualness of this assessment research does not discourage your participation; if you are not interested working in the research I hope you will continue to assess articles within the project. Regarding your deletion of ClueNet

(Full disclosure: I wrote the original version that was eventually deleted back in 2007–08, I have a COI, and I am not the author of the latest incarnation of this page.)

I believe your speedy deletion of ClueNet does not fall within WP:CSD#G4, as stated in the deletion rationale.

Here is my rationale:

The CSD was declined by another admin before you deleted it.
Someone unrelated to me created the page without the original content. It is highly unlikely that it is "sufficiently identical."
The page size was double what it was at the original deletion. I would not consider that "sufficiently identical." Note that CSD G4 does not apply to articles that are not sufficiently identical to the original.
The fact that the CSD was declined means deletion would have not been uncontroversial (at least one admin disagreed with it), and as such, should be discussed instead of speedily deleted. Note that CSD does not apply if there is a demonstrated non-consensus.
It was deleted because it had insufficient references. The fact that it has doubled in size means that the AFD reason for deletion still necessarily exists. It may still exist, but it would need to be re-evaluated at AFD. Note that CSD G4 does not apply if the deletion reason no longer necessarily applies.

Hi, Cobi - thanks for the full disclosure :) I have to comment that your restoring the history caused me confusion when I was researching the article :}

My main reason for agreeing with the G4 is that the article *still* didn't have any references that led anywhere but back to the website in question, and therefore continued to fail the original AfD. While I realize the article wasn't *exactly* like the originally deleted article, it seemed (to me) to be substantially similar.

I'd also like to note that the CSD that was declined was for an entirely different reason - G12, not G4 - so that didn't hold sway in my decision.

However, I'm perfectly willing to step aside and let the community decide on the notability of the subject again. The original AfD was back in 2008, and consensus can change :) I'll restore it, but am going to put it up for AfD discussion.

Dear Sir:

We are very disappointed that you chose to delete the Dr. Michael Schwartz Wikipage. Dr. Schwartz has worked for the past 20 years as a Ringside Physician creating novel and critical testing protocols in Professional Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts in order to save lives. As you know, these fighters are primarily minorities and uneducated who rely on boxing to support their families. Dr. Schwartz has been the leading physician in the world protecting these individuals. Once again, boxing and those who participate have been dealt a "Black Eye" by your decision to delete this post. As such, once again, it just exemplifies the problem that most people dont care about these minority athletes nor anyone who is trying to protect their lives and spread the word of safety in boxing.

We hope you reconsider and add this post with the corrections necessary. We have also sent this note to Mr. Wales to see if he can help as well.

I recommend reading Wikipedia's Notability Guidelines and Wikipedia's Reliable Sourcing Guidelines. If reliable sources can be found for Dr. Schwartz, feel free to re-create the article with those sources. The article Comodo Backup was speedily deleted because an editor placed a {{db-spam}} on it. I then reviewed the article and found it to be mostly promotional material, and felt that it violated Wikipedia's Guidelines on Advertising. I recommend reviewing that page for tips on how to write an article about a corporation or product.

If you feel like re-writing the article, feel free to do so. I recommend, though, that you review Wikipedia's Guidelines on a Neutral Point of View and write it in a more neutral style. Another big help would be to include references and information from a third party - find and use news articles about the product. Reviews can also be used, but those are often simply propaganda pieces, which therefore fall under WP:ADVERT.

133P/Elst-Pizarro

Hello SatyrTN,

I notice that on 12 January 2010 you moved 133P/Elst-Pizarro to 7968 Elst-Pizarro stating that the "Minor Planet Center recommends to list objects, both designated as asteroids and comets, as asteroids." Do you have a reference for that? I ask because both Hsieh and Jewitt seem to refer to the object more often by the cometary name. So 133P would seem (IMHO) to be the common name. Having written what I did I notice JPL only refers to the asteroid name even when you specify 133P. Which do you think we should use? -- Kheider (talk) 17:35, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Hm - I don't know what to tell you. I don't remember that page at all, and I don't have much expertise with asteroids or comets. I'm actually confused as to how I might have moved that, since I don't think I've edited or moved *any* comets or asteroids! It looks like I was doing a few WP:CSD articles at the time, so I suspect someone tagged that article (and 4015 Wilson-Harrington at the same time) with a {{db-move}}. In fact, that's what happened - Chesnok (talk · contribs) tagged both of those with the move.

Doesn't Wikipedia have rules about using the common name (Articles are normally titled using the name which is most commonly used to refer to the subjec)? This could come to down to Wikipedia practices vs IAU/JPL practices. Google "7968 Elst-Pizarro" = 16,700 results; "133P/Elst-Pizarro" = 42,200 results. -- Kheider (talk) 17:56, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Dancing Demon

You deleted the page I put up.

Dancing Demon was not unambiguous advertising.

There is nothing for sale. It discussed a classic game from 30 years ago that hasn't been on sale anywhere since, and run's on hardware that also is no longer available.

I am new to Wiki and it's rules, but I don't understand the logic of deleting an article about my all time favorite video game. It certainly seemed to me that that page is needed and a valuable entry to Wikipedia.

It's no less valuable then en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarCraft

I'm sorry that article got deleted. The article had two things missing that would have kept it from being speedily deleted. The first would be any information that indicated why it is important. For instance, if it were the first game created on the system? Was it a best-selling game? The second thing missing would be reliable sources that discuss the game.

If an article has those two things, it is not eligible for speedy deletion. Please feel free to recreate the article, but I recommend including those two things.

Eric Eskola

I'm wondering about the deletion of the Eric Eskola article. I went looking for some information about him, and only found peripheral references from his television program, etc.

As a somewhat casual Wikipedia editor, I'm not too overly familiar with the deletion process, but I see assurances that the information is not gone. I also see the rationale for the deletion (living person with no indication of importance or significance.

Since I can't find the content of the deleted article, I can't assess that critique.

1. How does one find the content of deleted articles, assuming you know.

2. Since Eskola is a journalist and television personality of some note (having hosted the premier political/public affairs show in Minnesota, Almanac for about 25 years, 'I feel the article should be undeleted.' In addition to the Almanac link above, here is a biography, and and one of many news articles discussing his importance.

Hi, TjoeC!

The article in question was created without any references at all in it - and it was only four sentences. As such, there were two reasons for deletion - the first, as you said, was "no indication of importance or significance". The second reason is the Biography of Living Persons guideline. The refs you provided would satisfy the second criteria, as they provide some reference about a living person. The first issue, though, is the tighter one - if Eskola has only hosted a local TV show, he doesn't reach Wikipedia's Notability Guidelines.

I'm going to Userfy the article - so that it's in your personal user space. With that, you can work on the article to improve it, providing the references you indicated, and hopefully improving the article. However, you should know that any other user may mark the article for the deletion process.

Add EOS (company)

You deleted the article for EOS (company), which was moved here: User:NittyG/EOS (company). There was a recent cover article in the Economist [3] mentioning the significance of 3D Printing and the significance of EOS within 3D printing. Can we please reinstate the article? Robotics infoboxes

Hi

I am soliciting some opinions on my first attempts at designing infoboxes and wondered if you might have time to help.

I made a post a few days ago at robotic infoboxes concerning the first attempt I had started, an proposed expansion of the current Template:Infobox_robot.

As no-one has replied I was hoping that if you had time you might be able to have a quick look and perhaps comment on the discussions page.

Redundant category

Hi, regarding Peter Murphy (politician): how is Category:LGBT people from the United States not redundant to Category:LGBT state legislators of the United States? People by nationality is a different tree from people by occupation. IMO, "Gay politicians from the United States" and "LGBT state legislators of the United States" are the overlap. But the LGBT categories are a mess - we split by nationality, occupation, sexuality, and even religion, so (especially with people) there's always some overlapping. --SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 17:13, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

"Gay politicians from the United States" and "LGBT state legislators of the United States" may have some overlap and you can nominate them for partial merging/deletion if you want, but both are subcategories of "LGBT people from the United States" so the inclusion of that category makes no sense - with it there is no overlap, only the inclusion of an article in a higher-level category when it's already in subcategories. I will remove this again to limit the number of categories per WP:COP. I'm sorry for posting on your talkpage, we should have put this on the article talk page. Hi, E Wing! I don't know that I'm going to be much help here. The article I deleted was created by Simplealexz (talk · contribs) on 2/11/11 and had simply one line of text:

Logan j Pynakker was born Aug. 16 1989 and never had a life. the end.

A month later, TboltHurricane (talk · contribs) created another version of the article, which you saw and asked for the speedy deletion. I'm unable to give you access to the history - I think you have to be an admin for that? But let me know if there's some other way I can help out. I've been removing the articles from the list after they've been reviewed - whether or not I changed the rating.

In general, I'm not in favor of having the project banner on redirect pages. The pages redirected to, yes, but not the redirect itself. Others may disagree, and I've noticed other project tags on redirects, but I don't think they serve a purpose.

My suggestion for what's next is to a) find some more sources, and b) maybe expand the "Peabody Award" section to be "Reception" or "Critical Reception" - a section I've seen in many TV articles that is a bit broader and would allow for more about how the show has been reviewed.

WikiProject LGBT studies partnership with new WikiQueer project?

Greetings, I am the sysop and public representative for a new Wiki project, WikiQueer - specifically for the LGBTQ communities - that supplements the LGBTQ content on Wikipedia with other resources, talking points and information pertaining to the LGBTQ population. Essentially content currently not allowed on Wikipedia or articles that don't meet Wikipedia's notability requirements but might meet the notability requirements of a queer historian. Put another way - all that content some of us wished we could post but have had shot down too many times to keep trying. We will be soft launching in the next few days with a grand opening later this year. I am very interested in partnering and supporting Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation in whatever ways we can. A number of international, national and local nonprofit organizations and community leaders have already signed onto the project or are preparing to publicly join in the coming months.

I am hoping that as a deputy coordinator of WikiProject LGBT studies you can help us navigate a possible partnership. We're especially keen on helping convey that we support Wikipedia and are trying to expand on and enhance that experience rather than challenge or compete. In a number of ways we are attempting to promote and give due credit to the WikiProject LGBT studies and will continue to expand on those efforts.

Any feedback on the WikiQueer project itself is also appreciated. We're also actively seeking individuals within or supportive of queer communities to join our Global Advisory Board if you or others you know may be interested.

It's good to go as is, but there's an excellent YouTube video, uploaded there by the producers of In the Life, that explains the case and has an interview with Martin Gill. This is responsible journalism, and meets the requirements for reliable source IMO. Problem is, I'm not sure if WP:YT allows such an external link to the article or not. What do you say? Anthony Venn-Brown

SatyrTN - I am curious as to why you have changed my entry on the listings for Gay and Lesbian people for Anthony Venn Brown - he hasn't been an evangelist for over 20 years now and resigned his credentials with the AOG back in 1991 . I think I misunderstood the link that was in there. The way it was written, the word "Author" was linked to the non-existent wikipedia page LGBT aadvocate. Event spelled correctly, there is no article for "LGBT advocate". And when I reviewed Venn-Brown's article, my mind skipped over the word "former" - sorry about that.

Wellseley House School

Seems to have been deleted by you in 2007 but references to it seem to accumulated since so probably should be undeleted. Of course it could have just been your Bot but thats still your fault !

The reasons given in 2007 were DB-A7, DB-A3 which suggests the issue was no content and no indication of importance. I could start rectifying this if page available. I noted issue with links that lead nowhere. I have identified at least 5 articles that refer to recently famous persons worthy of own wikipedia articles that were educated at this prep school vis:

It seems to be potentially notable by quality of education and British establishment connections. Has educated a few famous sportsmen too (gold metal Olympics). St Peter's Court which was folded into it educated a fair few UK establishment figures including Royalty (Duke of Kent Prince_George,_Duke_of_Kent and Prince Henry (Duke of Gloucester) last century.

Peltzer was already in the "Gay sportspeople" category, and the "LGBT sportspeople from Country" categories are much less used (and, to me, much less useful) than the "LGBT people from Country" cats. LGBT terminology

Hi. Our paths have probably crossed a few times. I remember the TN part of your name because I lived in Tennessee for a couple of years in the 1980s.

I'm interested in LGBT concepts and issues, particularly terminology. I've joined the LGBT Studies project [4], and I've started a list of terms ~~at [[]]~~. But I'm not sure that's the right way to get started, and I'm open to any suggestions you may have.

One thing that makes it hard to write about homosexuality - or anything related to it - is the shifting use of terminology. Does "gay" mean male homosexual, as in "gay and lesbian"? (What happens if we don't tack on Lesbian?) It even looks like LGBT started off as LGB.

More about me: In the distant past, I worked on "Gay gene", trying to make a neutral and comprehensive article about the then-controversial idea that homosexuality is inherited genetically and therefore immutable; I've also worked on "Reparative therapy", based on the still-controversial idea that homosexuality might not be 100% inherited and immutable. Then there's how (if?) homosexual and/or bisexual preference, desire, orientation, identity or "behavior" are related to their heterosexual counterparts: same as, same but different, different only because society looks at it that way, etc.

Hi, Uncle Ed! I suspect we *have* crossed paths, though I can't think of a specific instance :) Since you're an experienced editor, you know that you can work on whatever articles strike your fancy! I should warn you that articles like Reparative therapy tend to be battle grounds, so take breaks often :) But feel free - the project's articles are fairly well tagged as ours, so look around at Category:Stub-Class LGBT articles, etc, and jump in where you feel called.

The Guardian obituary says "He is survived by {his partner} Toer {van Shayk}

Unfortunately, sources that would really be interesting are either pay-per-view or "snippet view", so I'm unable to get more than that. The DutchNews.nl obituary, though, is a reliable source that specifically says that he was gay. LGBT people by occupation and nationality

I couldn't support killing off the whole tree, no. I still do agree that some of the subcategories aren't particularly needed; as you may recall, sportspeople was an edge case that I really had to struggle with before "voting" one way or the other, and I would probably still support killing "comedians", "journalists", "radio personalities" and "television personalities" as not really needed. But by the same token, I'd have to oppose killing off "musicians", "politicians" and "writers", since typically those are the things that constitute the most distinctively and relevantly unique aspects of one country's LGBT culture vs. another's; for instance, if I had to pick out the things that made LGBT culture here in Canada most uniquely Canadian, rather than generically international, I'd pick out things like Timothy Findley novels, the musical career of Carole Pope and the political impact of Svend Robinson.

Conversely, broadcasters like Jane Farrow or Rick Mercer are just people who happen to be queer, but whose cultural significance is quite "general interest" in nature and not LGBT-oriented per se, which is why the radio and television personalities cats are less useful. Being an "LGBT writer from Canada", in other words, is an aspect of Findley's notability in its own right, and being an "LGBT politician from Canada" is an aspect of Robinson's — whereas Mercer is both an LGBT person from Canada and a television personality, but the fact that he's specifically an "LGBT television personality from Canada" isn't really all that important.

I'd suggest maybe holding off for now, and instead initiating a project discussion to hopefully come to a better articulation of where such categorization is useful and where it isn't. But I don't agree that it's never useful or valid — some of the existing ones should be put out of their misery, certainly, but there are others that should quite legitimately be kept. And I would be in favor of a project-wide discussion, except that there are precious few of us involved in WP:LGBT at the moment. MSU Interview

Dear SatyrTN,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. I am currently copy editing and amending Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky to improve the article's overall quality and ensure it remains an FA. If you have time, I would greatly appreciate your looking over the article and giving feedback. My aim, other than the stylistic goal of improving the writing quality, is to add information and sources to keep coverage of Tchaikovsky's life and music as well-rounded as possible. Per WP:BLP, putting her in the Category:LGBT directors needed a) to be stated in the article, and b) have a reliable source that backed up the statement. I looked at The Advocate article before I removed the category and didn't see her stating she was lesbian, but I obviously didn't read close enough - I see where she says that. I don't know much about the criteria used, but I was to the belief that it would be at least C-class at this time. Hi, ZackTheJack!

My main reason for going with "Start" instead of "C" class is length. If you look at some of the other "C" class articles on Greece and Rome (i.e. Catullus, Digamma, Roman numerals), you'll notice they're a *lot* longer and usually have more references. Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

No - I have done them by hand, though I haven't done them in a while :) I think the last person I sent a welcome message to was User:Abster397 back in March of this year. WP in general has always had a "welcoming committee", believing that a real person delivering a welcome message is preferable to a bot doing it. In a recent cleanup of {{oldafdfull}} that I am working on, I noticed that there were a few anomalies, so I looked into it and found edits like this. Now I don't think it would be worth it to try and fix the errors since many of them have been overwritten by other bots/users. Josephine Baker

I'd like to ask that you review the talk portion of the sexuality section on Josephine Baker's page. My discussion went off on a tangent with Malik Shabazz when it really should have included you as well. The Jean Claude Baker book on Josephine Baker seems biased and unacceptable. For example, he states at the beginning that he "hated her" and refers to himself eighteen times on the first page. Since he did not meet her until she was 52 it seems inappropriate to rely on his claims about her life when she was 20 or 30. The blanket statement "Baker was bisexual," written as if it indisputable, really has to go, don't you think? There is no evidence given except the claim of a fan who changed his name to hitch onto her celebrity. Complete family history from my paternal grandmother And supposedly we traced back to Mary Queen of Scots then her successor her son etc. I do not have access to this Information from that family member I just went by what I was told. Our name under the Rule of Scotland / Ireland was "Allen"/"Alan". How do I trace REAL bloodlines to determine real legitimate family tree/genealogy? Mary's son was King then I found Charles I. Extended confirmed protection

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However,due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance.
