Apologies for any mis-editing of "an a priori" to "an priori". Sct72 (talk)

Cyprian Norwid[edit]

As a thank you for your fine copy-editing of Cyprian Norwid, here is a barnstar. Keep up the great work! Brisvegas 11:12, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
You're welcome - you deserved it. Cheers! Brisvegas 03:04, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

On "are" and "can be"[edit]

I just reverted one of your (many) changes of "are" to "can be". This may be an appropriate change in some places, but take care in making this change in philosophy articles, amongst other places, as it can frequently make a substantive (and incorrect) change to a claim.

All the best. –Syncategoremata (talk) 09:22, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Just trying to remove some "are are" for Wikipedia:WikiProject_Fix_common_mistakes.
Thank you for your patience. Sct72 (talk) 17:00, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
No problem and thanks for fixing such things. I hadn't noticed it originally, but I assume what triggered your attention was that has something like "the things that 'are', are ...", which is odd but okay in this particular case (philosophers torturing language again).
Many thanks and please keep up this sort of useful work.
All the best. –Syncategoremata (talk) 18:21, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

An/the "fixes"[edit]

Please slow down with the an/the "fixes". "An" is correct if the text is referring to a single copy of an item. That might be OK in the case of AN/FPS-17 but not in the case of Antonov An-124. I've reverted several of these. Rwessel (talk) 04:54, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Trying to eliminate false positives in the search. Sct72 (talk) 05:25, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
Regardless of the accuracy of the search (and it's hard to imagine that a search for this type of error could be made accurate enough to be fully automated), these are changes that need to be reviewed before being made. Rwessel (talk) 05:42, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
It's manual effort via Google search results. "An AN-100" as A N or AN- is repetitive. This ain't my first time off the turnip truck. Sct72 (talk) 03:27, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for removing the typo in the "Enzo Martinelli" entry[edit]

Hello, I saw that you corrected a typo in the "Enzo Martinelli" entry: I want to thank you. I have not much time in order to review accurately the edits I do, therefore I fill them with typos. Daniele.tampieri (talk) 07:06, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

  • No problem! Thank you! Sct72 (talk) 00:37, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

I think this was a mistake ..[edit]

[1]. It seems to me that either the word 'to' should be removed from both clauses subsequent to the first, or from none. And there's no harm in the repetition, just as there's no harm in the repetition of 'from' in my last sentence. Philip Trueman (talk) 07:22, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

  • If you wish to revert, that is ok. My goal is to reduce the number of search results for those listed on WP:FIX. Sct72 (talk) 03:34, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Happy First Day of Spring![edit]

Please be more careful; this was correct before. But, since it's inside a direct quote, it shouldn't be changed anyway unless you reviewed the source. — Carl (CBM · talk) 02:42, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Typo Team Barnstar![edit]

Nice work on 'to to' errors :D Consider helping out with 'the the'? :D Also do you use AWB? If not, why? Newyorkadam (talk) 00:52, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Newyorkadam
  • Thank you very much, I appreciate it! As for AWB, either I never tried it or I couldn't get the hang of it, so I just do it manually. It's good to see more people working on WP:FIX!! Sct72 (talk) 01:05, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
  • From experience, AWB speeds it up, but whatever works for you :) There's about 4,000 'the the' errors, I've fixed a couple hundred already. Wanna help :D? -Newyorkadam (talk) 01:19, 26 February 2014 (UTC)Newyorkadam
  • That will be my next stop! Thanks again!! Sct72 (talk) 01:31, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
  • Good job. I am still plugging away at "a the" in my spare time (I just finished #900). --Guy Macon (talk) 08:14, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Great!! Sct72 (talk) 22:40, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

in in[edit]

Hello Sct72. It looks like you are going round correcting typos involving the phrase "in in". Although in many cases this will be incorrect, in some cases it is deliberate and correct - the one I have just reverted on Bat Hefer was the phrase "moving in in 1996" - i.e. the residents moved into the village in 1996. May be worth reading the sentences to check before saving. Cheers, Number 57 12:12, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

  • I do read the sentences, as this is manual effort. If I can avoid a false positive by modifying, I will do so. As it says near the the top of this page, if you wish to revert that is ok. Sct72 (talk) 22:39, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

October 2015[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm ThisGuyIsGreat. I noticed that you recently removed some content without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I have restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. ThisGuyIsGreat (talk) 22:20, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

  • This was not blanking, this was work completed. And it was notated with a link to WP:FIX. Also, I have been here almost 10 years, so I don't think a sandbox suggestion is necessary. Sct72 (talk) 22:29, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

Dewey Decimal Classification[edit]

Melvil Dewey was a proponent of spelling reform and employed unusual spellings both in the title and preface. "pamflets" is in the correct, original title which is reproduced here within a {{sic}} template to indicate the non-standard usage. Please also see note 2 at the foot of the page which explains this. Regards, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 08:39, 25 August 2017 (UTC)

  • No problem, didn't see the (sic). Thank you for the info. Sct72 (talk) 01:10, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
