Sorry about what was somewhat of an overreaction in those discussions. My problem was that I was trying to participate constructively in the discussion, but all I saw was people attacking Dylan F, some quite rudely and irrationally. I saw no sensible response at all to what I suggested, just continued attack on someone else. I guess I misjudged you as another who was ignoring what I posted. February 2011[edit]

Hi Shirt58. Thank you for your work on patrolling pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I just wanted to inform you that I declined to delete E.volvin, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion because of the following concern: the criterion you used does not cover this kind of page or the reason you specified is not a valid reason for speedy deletion. Please review the criteria for speedy deletion and especially what is considered non-criteria. In future you should rather tag such pages for proposed deletion or start an appropriate deletion discussion. A7 requires a specific kind of subject to be applicable, and a style of dance is most definitively not a "real person, individual animal(s), organization (e.g. band, club, company, etc., except schools), or web content". Please consider instead Prod'ing such articles. Snowolf How can I help? 12:05, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions. Please remember to mark your edits as "minor" only if they truly are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. --John (talk) 03:59, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You've been Invited![edit]

You have been invited to join and help WikiProject Insects in its most recent collaboration, Lepidoptera, which has finally been nominated for Good article, soon a reviewer will review and you are welcomed to help before and during the reviewing process as a member of the project. Your also welcomed to nominate yourself as an unbiased, reviewer for the article.

When you wish to help (which is greatly welcomed) you can get briefed and ask questions on my talk page or the WikiProject insects' talk page when you're ready!! Thank you for your cooperation.Bugboy52.4 | =-= 21:09, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note: Wow, its nice to see your still editing after all this time, keep it up :D
Thats good to here, the article is still only a nominated GA, however as we wait for a reviewer, you can look at the Lepidoptera talk page for whats needed. Bugboy52.4 ¦ =-= 14:07, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just a comment[edit]

Thanks for your speedy deletion tagging! However, when an article contains just a dead picture link, such as SUBEESH BOSE, A3 is a better criteria than A1, since there really is no content in the article. In any event, the article does deserve to be deleted. Reaper Eternal (talk) 14:12, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CSD A1[edit]

Before doing speedy deletion because of not enough context, please wait for a couple days after that it is made. If there is nothing new, you may tag it for speedy deletion. ~~Awsome EBE123~~(talk | Contribs) 11:37, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Which one of my edits?[edit]

You said:"one of your recent edits did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed". Sorry, I cannot find which one of my edits you refer. I gave not my opinion. I gave references from the EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS. Does the reverters give any reference or idea before reverting? Requirements for attribution for translations from Wikipedias in languages other than English[edit]

 Done Hi all,
{{helpme}} I'm currently working on the List of Kangxi radicals project, and have translated some text from the corresponding Japanese Wikipedia project. As far as I am aware, I can't simply translate from wp:ja without attribution, as it would be a violation of the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL. Could some fellow Wikipedian possibly give me some guidance about this? As always, colleagues, thanks all for all your ongoing help! --Shirt58 (talk) 12:01, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. It's fine to translate from the jawiki article, as long as you say where it came from. You can do that with a message on the talk page - and there are templates to help.
Give me a few minutes, and I will add one for you - and let you know, right here. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  12:06, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK; I added the code {{translated page|ja|康熙字典|version=36886727}} to the talk page of the article, with this edit.
Notice the small box near the top, Article contains a translation of « 康熙字典 » from ja.wikipedia.
That shows that some text on the page comes from the ja article 康熙字典 - and it gives the specific version number of that article, 36886727 - which I got by looking at the history of the jawiki page; note the URL of the most recent version is;
...and that is where I took the number from.
That fulfills the requirements of the CC-BY-SA, because we've shown where the text came from.
For more info about that, see Wikipedia:Translate#How_to_translate and Template:Translated page.
I hope that makes sense; if you need further help, please ask again. Best,  Chzz  ►  12:18, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
d-mned fine work. Thank you indeed!--Shirt58 (talk) 12:33, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kangxi radical articles[edit]

Peter,

  • Actually, I was completely unaware of the Jyutping romanization system for Cantonese! Nonetheless, I think having a modern romanization method is a good idea, as it makes for good comparison opportunities with the older and more pervasive Yale romanization system (sort of like Pinyin vs. Wade-Giles). As for adding a Jyutping category to the infobox, that'd be a wonderful addition but I have no idea how to parse the scripting used for mediawiki templates. :(
  • Well, including all possible readings for hiragana, kanji, hangul and hanja transliterations might be overkill, so I guess I tend to lean towards only including first-mentioned ones from the ja: articles. It'd be nice to have an idea which readings are most common (Japanese words have on and kun readings, so having at least one example of both such readings seems adequate to me. I think Korean has the equivalent of on and kun but I have less knowledge about that language in general.
  • This is something that I'm still trying to figure out myself. I'd like to add all such information if feasible but so far I can't tell how I'm going to go about that.
Okay, I just found this article section about Chinese characters of Korean origin (known as Yakja). It looks like only specialized terms and personal names use this written form, thus the reason for only romanized entries in the Sino-Korean section of radical infoboxes (i.e., the written radicals are unchanged when used in Korean). Cheers! Bumm13 (talk) 15:53, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just a couple of other points: I'd like to get someone good with mediawiki/template scripting to add the functionality used in the German wikipedia's radicals infobox that shows links (as a radical number) to the previous and next radical articles with triangles as guide arrows. Having this feature would help in navigating these articles while making content additions to them. Also, please don't convert the external links into inline sources in reference to the number of characters a particular radical is based on, as I got that information from en: wikipedia's List of Kangxi radicals article and not the Unihan database (no biggie, but I don't want to cause source confusion). Regards, Bumm13 (talk) 14:38, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Back to business[edit]

Okay, I saw that you updated the Kangxi Radical Infobox documentation but not the template itself. After testing the template in my personal sandbox, I found that updating it wasn't as difficult as I initially thought it would be. There are now usable entries for Jyutping and Cantonese Yale for the infobox! I also updated the article (Radical 211) used as the example in the template documentation. Cheers! :) Bumm13 (talk) 13:43, 5 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Incidentally I noticed your "creation" of Du sollt Gott, deinen Herren, lieben, BWV 77, I don't know for what purpose. If you have to create a Bach cantata, would you please follow the established scheme as discussed in Classical music, compare perhaps the latest BWV 182. Re:known from..[edit]

Hmm, okay, I could find another phrase to use I guess. What about "it is found in". I think "native to" still suggest it occurs in that country naturally, while it might be an introduced species. Like I replied to User:Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 though: I really think it is okay, if I search for "known from Europe" on google I get a lot of scientific articles about species. For instance: "The genus Myrmecina is known from Europe", "The species indicated by an asterisk are known from Europe", "Actidium baccarinii is known from Europe", etc. so it might be science lingo? But okay, I will switch to "is found in". One thing though.. I made about 15,000 species articles on wikipedia in the course of a few years and used "is known from" countless times. I am not going back to change all of that. If it is really gramatically incorrect, a bot might be able to correct it. On an unrelated note: I noticed you link the authorities sometimes, thanks for that! But if you do, please mind the brackets. If there are no brackets, i.e. Meyrick, 1910, it means the species has not been transferred to another genus. If brackets are used, i.e. (Meyrick, 1910), it means the species was described in another genus but was transferred later. So I would like to ask not to add brackets when linking the authority (unless I made a mistake offcourse). Cheers! Ruigeroeland (talk) 11:18, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Peter,

I would very much value your comments on my first draft of an intended major edit addition to the stub, "7604 Kridsadaporn". This draft can be inspected at my Draft subpage.

No, I am not interested in Cricket - my username was selected by way of randomly typing a string of alpha-numeric characters on the keyboard - no meaning at all. Although I am honored you have suggested we co-edit an article together. I don't think I am anywhere near that standard, yet - I hope to achieve such a standard though however, it's only been 1 month since registering at Wikipedia - a lot more to learn.

I come from Coonabarabran NSW - half-way between Melbourne and Brisbane - offically the Astronomy Capital of Australia. I hope we can co-contribute towards Wikipedia once my skills gain some sort of momentum. But firstly, I would very much value your opinion and suggestions of how to improve my draft - before feeling confident enough to append to that stub. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NehruR42 (talkcontribs) 13:36, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My toes are quite resiliant!

Yes, I'd rather these articles were improved. I made a point of going through them all (I may have missed a few) when they appeared on NPP, to avoid the contributor being hit with a dozen invalid CSD-A7 notifications and being scared off for good. The subjects surely must be covered somewhere in more detail than is currently referenced. Normally I'd do a little investigating myself, but I don't really have the time at the moment.

Hopefully he'll come back and expand them now that he's been pointed in the right direction. Catfish Jim & the soapdish 12:35, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Isff, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia for multiple reasons. Please see the page to see the reasons. If the page has since been deleted, you can ask me the reasons by leaving a message on my user talk page.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Kevin (talk) 07:38, 30 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Ben McKay (actor) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) was deleted by AFD for notability: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ben McKay (actor). But that was back in 2007, and this version of the article is more substantial, so this recreation shouldn't fall under G4. (Someone could still renominate for AFD if they wanted.) Recreation of talk pages doesn't really matter - a talk page should exist only if the article exists. If an article exists it's always fine for a talk page to exist regardless of previous deletions. A tag has been placed on Ioannedae, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to an article talk page, file description page, file talk page, MediaWiki page, MediaWiki talk page, category talk page, portal talk page, template talk page, help talk, user page, user talk or special page from the main/article space.

If you can fix the redirect to point to a mainspace page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you are fixing the redirect. If you think the redirect should be retained as is for some reason, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Welcome-advert[edit]

Hi! You left a {{Welcomespam}} at User talk:EC Cyclopedia, and the editor has responded with a {{helpme}}. Can you answer there? The article Santa Barbara Tax Products Group doesn't look too bad to me, but I'm no expert in this kind of thing. -- John of Reading (talk) 10:50, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Santa Barbara Tax Products Group[edit]

Re. the now-archived User talk:Chzz/Archive 31#About: Santa Barbara Tax Products Group and User talk:EC Cyclopedia

(I had some 'issues' with my talk page, so things got archived)

I think what you did was fine; sorry I was unable to help at the time - but, yes, seems OK. Keeping things short and thus a 'necessary oversimplification' is most effective, I think. And whilst we have to be careful not to BITE, there's also the often-quoted "AGF is not a suicide pact" - ie, is the user actually here to improve the project, or just to plug their company (an SPA, unlikely to be a net positive). I wrote a thingy (unfinished), User:Keegan/Butterfly.

About the only suggestion I would make is, to always emphasize that they should read WP:BFAQ - which is a great guide, in those cases.

Dealing with COI is certainly hard work, and can be very demoralizing - but I don't think you crossed a line to bite, at all; I think your response was fine. Keep up the good stuff.  Chzz  ►  18:18, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sig/Talkpage[edit]

For the sig, you can copy other people's sig but change the font/symbols/colors to make it "uniquely" you. Same goes for userpage. I got mine from an assorted of userpages/wikiproject which I modified over time. --Tyw7  (☎ Contact me! • Contributions) 12:33, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also regarding your note, are you suggesting that I wait for an editor to make an edit before welcoming them? --Tyw7  (☎ Contact me! • Contributions) 12:33, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Since there is no reply here, I will unwatch this page. If you want to talk here, just leave me a talkback notice. --Tyw7  (☎ Contact me! • Contributions) 22:26, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry, but I don't see the problem with those welcome templates either. Could you explain? Thanks, Drmies (talk) 18:53, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Tyw, editors aren't always 'on' 24/7! Shirt58, thanks for your note; I responded there. Drmies (talk) 16:20, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
