Removal of sourced content from bikaner article.[edit]

Hi Syamsundar,

Today you removed sourced content on bikaner history ironically all about Jats ,why???

I think you will be aware of the fact that Jats ruled Bikaner for more than 1000yrs and rajputs for 500yrs, than why content on rajputs also not deleted on the same time???

Bikaner was formed with the coilation of Bika rajput and Nehra or Nera Jats, thus Bika + Nera = Bikaner ,so why sorced info about jats deleted???

You say all that additions about jats should be on History of Bikaner section, than why info on rajputs is on main article??? It should also be on History of bikaner section then????

Do you have any proof of Gujara-Pratihara clan ruling bikaner or jangladesh, if you do have than provide, WP:POV wont work on here !

Proposed deletion of List of people from Punjab (India)[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article List of people from Punjab (India) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Appears to be an exact copy of List of Punjabis, with all the Pakistanis axed out. Utterly unnecessary WP:CFORK.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Currently Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation is a redirect to TASMAC. TASMAC is the cognomen - it has even entered popular culture as a word (mostly used derogatively) and even in governtment and media reports no one uses the full name. This would be the search term commonly used. So i named the article per WP:COMMONNAME. we should be using the more commonly used term right?--Sodabottle (talk) 07:09, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Results of AFD[edit]

I am really annoyed with the decision to delete this page, as you may imagine. i dont think any of the BLP issues were unfixable. I really dont understand why people think that labelling someone a Muslim without sources is slander. its like when a woman called Barack Obama a Muslim, and john mccain defended him but made it sound like if he WAS a muslim, it WOULD have been a bad thing. Im not going to protest its deletion, but i just find it weird that we delete this one, but dont delete other lists just like it with equal passion. thanks for your support. You do probably know that there are ways to request admin oversight on deletion reviews, right? if you decide to do so (your call, im ok either way), let me know and i will participate. And, i still want to know: in india, is it patently obvious to most people when someone is a Muslim, by their name, or even their ethnicity, or some other matter? Thus, do people not bother to comment on it so much?Mercurywoodrose (talk) 18:54, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your personal take on my question. i believe you. i agree there was no consensus in this afd, and i think the existence of so many similar articles means it would be better to open up a dialoge, i think its a "request for comment" somewhere. again, if you ever want to try to do so, notify me, and i will participate.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 03:12, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Category:Indian photography[edit]

I noticed that you created Category:Indian photography, so I populated it a little. (I'm sure that there are plenty more photographers who could be added; I just couldn't think of them immediately.)

That inspired me to create "Category:Japanese photography". I did so, and started to populate that.

But then I suddenly decided that "Category:Photography in Japan" was a better title, populated that, and depopulated and killed off "Category:Japanese photography".

I preferred the new title because it unambiguously includes photography by the (very?) non-Japanese within Japan. I didn't want somebody objecting (for example) "Bruce Gilden was in Japan but what he was doing there wasn't Japanese but American photography."

Before "Category:Indian photography" is much populated, what do you think about "Category:Photography in India"? If you prefer it, I'd be happy to help you with the name change.

I've adapted the text I wrote for "my" (!) category and copied it to yours; I hope it seems helpful. -- Hoary (talk) 13:38, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

I was in two minds about the name of the category . I checked names of the other countries. I noted American photography and British photography and like So I went with precedent and named it Indian photography. I prefer Photography in India and am okay if anyone changes it to that. Shyamsunder (talk) 19:28, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Done! Actually I think the other cats should be changed similarly ("British photography" to "Photography in Britain", etc), but there are only so many hours in the day. -- Hoary (talk) 21:58, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

I've populated Category:Photography in India a little more. There are probably yet more people (etc) who could be added, but unfortunately I know very little about India. -- Hoary (talk) 22:07, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. Shyamsunder (talk) 02:06, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Several notable British photographers worked at one time or another in India. Let's imagine for a moment that Wikipedia had articles on a large number of them. Here I suggest that Category:Indian photographers and Category:British photographers in India should belong to Category:Photographers in India, which itself should be part of Category:Photography in India. Of course I hope that you agree, but I'd happily consider any better idea that you might have. Please comment there. Thanks. -- Hoary (talk) 13:12, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Ancient literature[edit]

Hi, just a note: please be careful with the category "Ancient Indian literature". I'm not sure what "ancient" means, but literature from the medieval period certainly shouldn't be categorized as "ancient". For instance, the Hitopadesha dates from the 12th century; this is not ancient! You've also added the category "Sanskrit texts" to "Ancient Indian literature", but not everything in that category is ancient. Shreevatsa (talk) 07:30, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

It would be good to have some definition for Category:Ancient Indian literature since you created the category: what exactly counts as "ancient" according to you? For instance you have placed Category:Jain texts in the category, but to pick a random article from the category, there's Atma Siddhi which was composed in the nineteenth century… rather recently! It's awkward having categories without defining what the category means. Shreevatsa (talk) 10:10, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

The definition is already there in the parent Category:Ancient India which is "This category contains the pages relating to history of India before arrival of Islam in India in 8th century". Hope this helps.Shyamsunder (talk) 11:14, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Hmm. While I'm not happy with that periodisation (I'd really like for "ancient" to mean the pre-Gupta period), that's probably a matter for historians. :-) I've edited the category page to include the definition — it's always useful to add this, so that others know what pages/subcategories can be added to that category. Regards, Shreevatsa (talk) 11:45, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

hi[edit]

Hi there, I just wanted to know how you know that new page requires categorization? KuwarOnline Talk 11:27, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Your contributed article, P.J.Thomas (CVC)[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, P.J.Thomas (CVC). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - P. J. Thomas (politician). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at P.J.Thomas(CVC) - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Suri 100 13:30, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Removal of categories in History of rail transport in India[edit]

Hi Shyamsunder,

AshLin here, another colleague from the subcontinent. :)

I was happy to see your numerous edits on Indian Railways and am awarding you this barnstar for an unrecognised facet of your work.

I also noticed an edit of yours and I respectfully disagree with your removal of categories from History of rail transport in India. A person looking for the history of rail transport in India would not look for it in History of rail transport by country but would search for it in Category:Indian Railways and Category:Rail transport in India. I also feel that this article should figure high in the category tree and should be retained in these two categories for that reason and not just nested deep into the history of rail transport in India category. So, I am reverting your edits. If you feel that you would like to remove the categories again, I respect that and request we continue this discussion on the talk page of the article.

Happy editing, my friend.

Hello[edit]

I just need to know "Why have you removed this Visitors attractions in India by city category from Visitors attractions in Sambalpur Category, do you have any explanation for this? or you are simply trying to increase your edit counts by doing unnecessary edits using Hotcat? You don't justify your edits also, I take this behavior as reckless editing!" This is not the first time I have observed you activity for quite sometime and I am reporting this. One possible explanation you will now add is that "Sambalpur is not a City!" my answer to this is "Who are we to decide, what's the definition of a city?"

I would request you to kindly undo such edits and refrain from editing in such careless manner.--[[++@adikka (talk) 02:53, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

On that note, if you must have a "horse breeds originating in India" category (and WPEQ doesn't feel these national cats are needed, they just cause edit wars, what if the breed originated in Ancient India but modern Pakistan??) at least PLEASE do not remove the parent category "horse breeds." We need it for proper navigation and maintenance. Montanabw(talk) 21:46, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

V. P. Singh administration[edit]

I suggest you see Category:Presidency of Barack Obama and like categories to better appreciate what should be added to such categories for Indian prime ministers like V P Singh administration and others. Thanks Shyamsunder (talk) 06:37, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion. I had looked at various categories under Category:Categories named after politicians. The categories relevant to India remain in the fledgling stage. Will be working on some of them. Karnan (talk) 17:02, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Category:V. P. Singh administration is not a category named after the politician. In example given there is a separate category Category:Barack Obama. Shyamsunder (talk) 20:56, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
And the latter includes Category:Presidency of Barack Obama. I had looked at those too. Karnan (talk) 00:01, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Categorization of ESI[edit]

Hi Shyamsunder, Thanks for taking the trouble to appropriately categorize the ESI article.. The category 'Insurance in India' is very appropriate. However, ESI has no bearing with labour relations. It is a separate corporate entity that oversees the medical and disablement benefits of industrial workers. It's a contributory scheme in which the employees, employers and the government all contribute.. As there is no appropriate sub-category in 'Industry in India' category, I added it.. -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 05:15, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

hi Shyam[edit]

I need your help, Some of the other 'good' wikipedians from developed countries are not properly understanding the importance of articles in Indian context and have been resisting my edits and contributions. Though i am working on improving my quality of contributions, I think your being in the circle will make things some easier for me.

Recently User talk:PMDrive1061 deleted my talk subpage User talk:Maheshkumaryadav/List of schools in districts of India. The page was not having any offensive contents, but was edited to perfection by me for three hours. The deletion of contents from 'main' domain can be understandable, but is deleting my subpage which i was planning to use fair. Has he violated any rules. Mahesh Kumar Yadav (talk) 18:24, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

  • I've taken care of that. He had it titled as an article talk page; I deleted it as an orphan. I would never have otherwise deleted his subpage. Thanks for helping with this editor. He's enthusiastic as all get-out, but he needs some guidance. PMDrive1061 (talk) 14:38, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Copyvio fix[edit]

Thanks for resolving the copyvio issue at Rock Garden. I am afraid that myself and several others are between a rock and a garden hard place at the moment in trying to clean up a trail of stuff and are sometimes having to take a rather black-white view of things. You are probably aware that there are a huge number of articles that require review in this area and, of course, in the case of copyvios, the basic rule is "remove on sight but fix if you can". We're going to get it wrong some times, although on this occasion it was not so much getting it wrong as simply wilting under the sheer scale of the task. It has been a frustrating few days and has consumed a lot of hours that could have been spent in more productive areas. Your efforts in fixing the article are much appreciated. No-one wants to see an article about a notable subject deleted. - Sitush (talk) 23:24, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Category:Lists of universities and colleges in India[edit]

Hi, you recently undid revision 438303727 of this category by me. The text you deleted was:

The main article for this category is List of Indian institutions of higher education

Now, I forgot to wikilink but the article List of Indian institutions of higher education does exist. I was merely trying to add some text to the category page in accordance with Wikipedia:Categorization#Content of category pages.

Was this text inappropriate for the page? Please elaborate.

If not, and if you do not agree that the said article is the main article for the category, a discussion on the same can be started on the category's talk page. Thanks.--Siddhartha Ghai (talk) 18:22, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Re:This is regarding the reversion of my redirecting the page List of universities in Rajasthan to List of educational institutions in Rajasthan. As you can see, the latter list already contains all the universities listed in the former. Also, you may see by looking at the category named above that the current convention is to have a single article for educational institutions in one state. Also, there has been talk on Talk:List of universities in India#List of universities in Tamil Nadu for the deletion of a similar article. Since the same arguments apply to List of universities in Rajasthan, I converted it to a redirect. If you still think that this content merits a separate list, please feel free to start a discussion about it on the article's talk page. Thanks.--Siddhartha Ghai (talk) 17:17, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of History of Haryana[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article History of Haryana has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Pretty much a duplicate of the history section at Haryana

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sitush (talk) 00:29, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

I removed the prod, as I believe that there is a (currently unverified) likely notable topic under this. However, if reliable sources aren't added, it wouldn't surprise me to see this get sent to AfD, so, if you have any idea where to look and could add some sources to verify notability, it would be a great help. Bhavan's Vidya Mandir (Poochatty)[edit]

First of all read WP:NHS. The fact is articles about schools rarely get deleted, even in AfD. And notability is certainly not the most important factor when it comes to deleting an article about a high school. An article about a school is acceptable if it has been mentioned in verifiable secondary sources. You might even want to see Jimbo Wales' opinion on the issue. Also see the following:

All are from The Hindu which is a very reputable newspaper. That said, I'm not in for a heated discussion/edit war regarding this. I hope that you'd assume good faith and remove the PROD. Thank you! — Fιnεmαnn (talk) 19:45, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

It seems that you have edited Wikipedia since I posted this message. And you haven't removed the PROD which I asked you to do so, or haven't stated any reasons to keep it. I'm removing it. — Fιnεmαnn (talk) 01:29, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

I don't know what has caused you to start an edit war on the article. You first PRODded the article, which I removed because of WP:NHS. You then added two citation required tags on the article. The fact that this is the only school in Thrissur which has a ISO rating was clearly stated on the older website of the school. Still I removed the whole sentence which seemed promotional and not supported by their new website. And that the President of India inaugurated the school is well supported by the school website. I don't find that promotional and I have removed the citations required tag. I was just looking at your creations and it looks like half of them won't even survive an AfD!. Maybe you should focus on improving your own articles than wasting others time by your bogus tagging and deletion requests. — Fιnεmαnn (talk) 13:44, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately since I am new to Wikipedia and since A2Z Group is an Indian company the wikipedia editors haven't been able to verify the 'notability' of the company.

Could you please help me with improving the Article and with convincing other editors/administrators about the notability of the Company? Thanks!

Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988[edit]

Thank you for all your contributions to wikipedia. Just an additional thought: Pls have a look at wiki page for Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and see if you can update it with any missing info, if possible. You may take a look at USA Patriot Act as a sample.Onkar 09:49, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Tamil Nadu things[edit]

You objected to the deletion of Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited - unfortunately, it was a copyvio of their site (found out after I'd deleted it for being promotional). I've also deleted two more of User:Musukundan's articles for the reason of copyvio, and suspect more are there, as the writing of some of them is more like official sites than the usual Wikipedia article - and there are others deleted for copyvio or reduced to one line with about ten references. You undoubtedly know India better than I do - would you care to have a look at some of the other contributions of this user and see what you think? I've warned the user about repeated copyvio, and that it can lead to blocking. Peridon (talk) 16:00, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Karpoor Chand Kulish[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Karpoor Chand Kulish, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. —teb728 t c 17:11, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Durga Lal[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Durga Lal has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I am not sure what criteria does the article meet or does not meet. But an article with a single sentence that too unsourced is definitely not worth keeping in Wikipedia.

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Category removal from talkpages[edit]

Doing this might be a better idea instead of removing category link from the comment, hence removing context. [1]. Cheers. --lTopGunl (talk) 10:57, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
