Archiving noticeboards[edit]

Thanks very much for your help in archiving noticeboard threads. If you would, please remember that noticeboard threads need to stay visible at least 24 hours after they are closed, in order to insure that all participants and interested parties are able to view the close and its instructions. Editors live in time zones all over the world, and also have varying sleep, work, and log-in schedules (especially during the weekend), so 24 hours is the least amount of time something needs to stay visible on the boards. The best way to calculate the 24-hour window is to Google utc time, and then subtract one day from that, and then only archive threads that were closed before that date/time. Thanks again, Softlavender (talk) 04:15, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

I understand. I was only trying to help, maybe really old threads that are past 24 hours need to have one-click archived? Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 04:41, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, that was my point: They can be archived if they are more than 24 hours past close (using UTC time, not your local time, to verify) -- but not before. Thanks, Softlavender (talk) 05:04, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

June 2016 Guild of Copy Editors Newsletter[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors June 2016 News
Writing Magnifying.PNG

Copyeditors progress.png

Hello everyone, welcome to the June 2016 GOCE newsletter. It's been a few months since we sent one out; we hope y'all haven't forgotten about the Guild! Your coordinators have been busy behind the scenes as usual, though real life has a habit of reducing our personal wiki-time. The May backlog reduction drive, the usual coordinating tasks and preparations for the June election are keeping us on our toes!

May drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in last month's record-setting backlog reduction drive. Of the 29 people who signed up, 16 copyedited at least one article, 197 copyedits were recorded on the drive page, and the copyedit backlog fell below 1,500 for the first time! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

June Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz will occur from 12 June through 18 June; the themes will be video games and Asian geography.

Coordinator elections: It's election time again; how quickly they seem to roll around! Nominations for the next tranche of Guild coordinators, who will serve a six-month term that begins at 00:01 UTC on 1 July and ends at 23:59 UTC on 31 December, opens at 00:01 UTC on 1 June and closes at 23:59 UTC on 15 June. Voting takes place between 00:01 UTC on 16 June and 23:59 UTC on 30 June. If you'd like to assist behind the scenes, please consider stepping forward; self-nominations are welcomed and encouraged. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible; remember it's your Guild, and it doesn't run itself!

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Miniapolis and Baffle gab1978.

Coordinator elections: The second tranche of Guild coordinators for 2016, who will serve a six-month term until 23:59 UTC on 31 December, have been elected. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible; self-nominations are welcome and encouraged.

Greetings, Sjones. I'd be interested in getting Howl's moving castle (the film) up to GA in the next few months, if possible. Hello everyone, and welcome to the September 2016 GOCE newsletter.

>>> Sign up for the September Drive, already in progress! <<<

July Drive: The July drive was a roaring success. We set out to remove April, May, and June 2015 from our backlog (our 149 oldest articles), and by 23 July, we were done with those months. We added July 2015 (66 articles) and copy-edited 37 of those. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from June 2016. Well done! Overall, we recorded copy edits to 240 articles by 20 editors, reducing our total backlog to 13 months and 1,656 articles, the second-lowest month-end total ever.

August Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 21 through 27 August; the theme was sports-related articles in honor of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Of the eight editors who signed up, five editors removed 11 articles from the backlog. A quiet blitz – everyone must be on vacation. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdlsk.

Gerbert (TV series)[edit]

I understand what you meant the "I hate to do this" part. I understand that you do not want me to cross too much in crediting segments in the Gerbert TV series episode without the proper source. It is okay that you deleted it and it was an overload. Since it was an old show, it was harder to do research online on cast members who appeared in the episode ahead of time and it was incomplete and disorganized. The only way to fill out the gap is to record the show and type in who appeared on the episode. Unfortunately, the first season rolls the same end credits, but we cannot tell who exactly appeared in the episode. This page needs to find a way to credit other cast members who have appeared in the episode including segments. Like what you did by deleting the staff members on the show, we obviously cannot credit everyone per season and that would take so much wikipedia space and unnecessary information. I checked the past previous wikipedia edits and before I and others started editing this page a little bit up to wikipedia standard as possible, the summary of the show was pretty sloppy, no list of appearance of cast members and citing improper sources. Not many people have worked on this Gerbert (TV Series) page was close to deletion. So far, both of us were the ones active revised this page up to standard at our best. We need to find another solution to credit segments on the show and a note section on the page. There is got to be a way to get this page up to wikipedia standard.

Cbears22 (talk) 19:06, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

I feel that something doesn't look right. I plan to help get this article up to Wikipedia standards for a potential GA or FA. A good example of a featured article about a television series is Sesame Street. If there are find some reliable sources for the production and casting of Gerbert (i.e. newspapers, books), that would help also. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 19:33, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

Some of the sentences from past Wikipedia edits from previous wikipedia users were good and I incorporated their sentence into the summary. The rest from previous edits were sloppy and I cannot incorporated it into the summary and they did not talk much about the premise of the show. This page started in 2007 and since then there were so many changes and it became so messy and vandalized. Past wikipedia users just threw in information and did not credit the source. Looking through past wikipedia edits, I do not know where they got the information from or how they got it. Again, this page was close to deletion back in 2007 and this page revived aftermath. I agree with you that with other wikipedia edits on television shows are up to Wikipedia standards. With a short summary like this, it is not enough to pass Wikipedia standards. I am not sure if we can find any books and newspapers on the website about the television series.

Cbears22 (talk) 19:43, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

Hmm, you may have a point there. Meanwhile, I found a source from the Chicago Tribune about the series. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 20:07, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

A Wikipedia user found this article as well before I began revising the page. I also got the same results as you and the previous Wikipedia user. However, it is not enough to meet Wikipedia standards. I tried IMDB to look at several cast members who appeared on the show and it seemed incomplete and mixed up. It also needed some work. For the first season cast members, it is hard to determined who played Miss Deegan or Gerbert's mother. Molly Goodrich (actress) does not have any current information and Sharon Round's last information was that she was in a movie in 2001. I had to take a little guess to figure it out who played Miss Deegan or Gerbert's mother.

I was looking at McGee and Me! Wikipedia page and it passed Wikipedia standard. Gerbert (TV Series) does not have the gray box on our right hand side and I think that what the page needs.

Cbears22 (talk) 19:22, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

I found the synopsis of the Gerbert (TV series) episodes on this website Gerbert Episode Guide along with the summary of each episode. How are we going to do this without copying and pasting and plagiarism? (Thinking?) This page needs to be more reorganized. With my notes that I previously typed under the Cast section for all seasons, I can incorporate it into the episode synopsis. Organize it as if you were dividing it into seasons, but I do not know how to do the technical stuff; and I am still learning.

As for this article Chicago Tribune, you gave an idea that this page should have a synopsis and the premise of the show. How it was created and began? Previous wikipedia users have already mentioned it, but it was not like an introduction. Making a synopsis section of this page would make this page a bit stronger. We have the introduction of the show, but not how the show started or created. I would suggest to put the synopsis section in between the intro and the Cast section (put it above the cast section).

Cbears22 (talk) 22:31, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

What do you think we should name this section? Some of these are recyclable sentences from previous edits. All of the other previous edits have been vandalized without any proper citation. It needs more work, but I do not want to post it on the actual page until we agreed that this paragraph will sound good and come up with a section for this paragraph. I was the one who added the "See You Later Alligator" and "..after a while crocodile." I understand this does not make any sense, but I was just throwing out ideas.

"The Gerbert character was created and performed by Andy Holmes, of Abilene, Texas. Holmes first developed a program using Gerbert for hospitals to show children to help them get over their fears of hospitalization Chicago Tribune Gerbert's friends include Miles, Miss Deegan, a variety of multi-ethnic children, and the obnoxious Stu. Gerbert loves all people, all cultures, and his viewers. At the end of each episode, Gerbert says to the viewers "See a later alligator." At the end of many episodes of Gerbert in beginning of Season 3, the camera would zoom into a dark hole in a hollow tree, cutting to a 3-4 minute episode of Dot and Dash." Cbears22 (talk) 07:26, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

I think a plot section would be fair enough for me. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 07:36, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

I agree. I think this page needs to have a better plot. With the research you found, it is a good idea to incorporate it onto the page. Again, I found the episode guide with the premises of the episode. If I copy and paste it is plagiarism. Cbears22 (talk) 23:29, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Hoodwinked revert[edit]

Hi - I just reverted your edit to Hoodwinked!, but accidentally saved before writing an edit summary. The reason for the revert is that I don't see anything in Template:Infobox Film stating that co-directors shouldn't be mentioned. If you can point to a specific policy or guideline stating this rule, then I'll certainly be open to considering the change. Otherwise though, I think that it would be best to mention all three directors. --Jpcase (talk) 23:52, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Hey there. I'll go ahead and open up a discussion on WT:MOSFILM so uninvolved editors can voice their opinions on including co-directors in infoboxes. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 00:17, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup[edit]

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup
Symbol support vote.svg

Greetings, all!

We would like to announce the start of the 4th GA Cup, a competition that seeks to encourage the reviewing of Good article nominations! Thus far, there have been three GA Cups, which were successful in reaching our goals of significantly reducing the traditionally long queue at GAN, so we're doing it again. Currently, there are over 400 nominations listed. We hope that we can again make an impact this time.

The 4th GA Cup will begin on November 1, 2016. Four rounds are currently scheduled (which will bring the competition to a close on February 28, 2017), but this may change based on participant numbers. We may take a break in December for the holidays, depending on the results of a poll of our participants taken shortly after the competition begins. The sign-up and submissions process will remain the same, as will the scoring.

Sign-ups for the upcoming competition are currently open and will close on November 14, 2016. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors, so sign-up now!

If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the judges.

Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase. We apologize for the delay in sending out this message until after the competition has started. Thank you to Krishna Chaitanya Velaga for aiding in getting this message out.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News
Writing Magnifying.PNG

Copyeditors progress.png

Hello everyone, and welcome to the December 2016 GOCE newsletter. We had an October newsletter all set to go, but it looks like we never pushed the button to deliver it, so this one contains a few months of updates. We have been busy and successful!

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: Nominations are open for election of Coordinators for the first half of 2017. Please visit the election page to nominate yourself or another editor, and then return after December 15 to vote. Thanks for participating!

September Drive: The September drive was fruitful. We set out to remove July through October 2015 from our backlog (an ambitious 269 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of oldest articles to just 83. We reduced our overall backlog by 97 articles, even with new copyedit tags being added to articles every day. We also handled 75% of the remaining Requests from August 2016. Overall, 19 editors recorded copy edits to 233 articles (over 378,000 words).

October Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 October; the theme was Requests, since the backlog was getting a bit long. Of the 16 editors who signed up, 10 editors completed 29 requests. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

November Drive: The November drive was a record-breaker! We set out to remove September through December 2015 from our backlog (239 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of old articles to just 66, eliminating the two oldest months! We reduced our overall backlog by 523 articles, to a new record low of 1,414 articles, even with new tags being added to articles every day, which means we removed copy-editing tags from over 800 articles. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from October 2016. Officially, 14 editors recorded copy edits to 200 articles (over 312,000 words), but over 600 articles, usually quick fixes and short articles, were not recorded on the drive page.

Housekeeping note: we do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your Watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

WikiCup December newsletter: WikiCup 2017[edit]

On 1 January 2017, WikiCup 2017 (the 10th Annual WikiCup) will begin. This year we are trying something a little different – monetary prizes.

For the WC2017 the prizes will be as follows (amounts are based in US$ and will be awarded in the form of an online Amazon gift certificate):

  • First place – $200
  • Second & Third place – $50 each
  • Category prizes – $25 per category (which will be limited to FA, FL, FP, GA, and DYK for 2017). Winning a category prize does not require making it to the final round.

Note: Monetary prizes are a one-year experiment for 2017 and may or may not be continued in the future. In order to be eligible to receive any of the prizes above, the competing Wikipedia account must have a valid/active email address.

After two years as a WikiCup judge, Figureskatingfan is stepping down. We thank her for her contributions as a WikiCup judge. We are pleased to announce that our newest judge is two-time WikiCup champion Cwmhiraeth.

The judges for the 2017 WikiCup are Godot13 (talk · contribs · email), Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), and Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email).

Signups are open now and will remain open until 5 February 2017. You can sign up here.

Noctis Lucis Caelum[edit]

Hello. I noticed you are interested in Final Fantasy XV. I have been expanding Noctis Lucis Caelum's reception section and I think it's enough. Last year, I asked its primary user if he planned to make it a GA but he told he lost interest. The only thing left before nominating it to GA seems like expanding the appearances section if you have played (I don't have a PS4). If it does not interest you, okay. Just looking around since all Final Fantasy character articles are GA. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 23:56, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

I've played the game before actually. I'll take a look at the section and see what can be done. There's no rush. Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 01:33, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

Note.[edit]

I am the user Kordads. I apologize about my many edits to thee page Wolf Children, but I feel that the wikipedia version makes it somewhat empty. I will stop editing the page if I have to, but what exactly is wrong with my edits that they are reversed? Thanks.

64.107.167.2 (talk) 17:34, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi, Kordads. I apologize for the late reply, I was busy with other things. Some of my concerns regarding your edits to Wolf Children are that the plot summaries are to be generally between the 400 to 700-word count per WP:FILMPLOT when I looked at the history page and word count for lengths. I think we can discuss some issues on the plot summaries on the article's talk page per WP:BRD if it's required so that others can weigh in and get a consensus. Thanks. Guild of Copy Editors February 2017 News[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors February 2017 News
Writing Magnifying.PNG

Copyeditors progress.png

Hello everyone, and welcome to the February 2017 GOCE newsletter. The Guild has been busy since the last time your coordinators sent out a newsletter!

December blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 11 through 17 December; the themes were Requests and eliminating the November 2015 backlog. Of the 14 editors who signed up, nine editors completed 29 articles. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all who took part.

January drive: The January drive was a great success. We set out to remove December 2015 and January and February 2016 from our backlog (195 articles), and by 22 January we had cleared those and had to add a third month (March 2016). At the end of the month we had almost cleared out that last month as well, for a total of 180 old articles removed from the backlog! We reduced our overall backlog by 337 articles, to a low of 1,465 articles, our second-lowest month-end total ever. We also handled all of the remaining requests from December 2016. Officially, 19 editors recorded 337 copy edits (over 679,000 words).

February blitz: The one-week February blitz, focusing on the remaining March 2016 backlog and January 2017 requests, ran from 12 to 18 February. Seven editors reduced the total in those two backlog segments from 32 to 10 articles, leaving us in good shape going in to the March drive.

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: In December, coordinators for the first half of 2017 were elected. Jonesey95 stepped aside as lead coordinator, remaining as coordinator and allowing Miniapolis to be the lead, and Tdslk and Corinne returned as coordinators. Thanks to all who participated!

Speaking of coordinators, congratulations to Jonesey95 on their well-deserved induction into the Guild of Copy Editors Hall of Fame. The plaque reads: "For dedicated service as lead coordinator (2014, 1 July – 31 December 2015 and all of 2016) and coordinator (1 January – 30 June 2015 and 1 January – 30 June 2017); exceptional template-creation work (considerably streamlining project administration), and their emphasis on keeping the GOCE a drama-free zone."

Housekeeping note: We do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Miniapolis, Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

March Madness 2017[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Fairy Tail spin-offs[edit]

I want your opinion on some changes I'd like to make to the Fairy Tail spin-off articles. I haven't contributed much to them myself, and I wasn't involved in their creation, but any little bit helps. I'd like to:

  • Move them all to a single "List of Fairy Tail spin-off manga" article. Apart from Fairy Tail Zero (which is already a stretch besides its inclusion in the anime adaptation), none of the spin-offs have enough notability to warrant their own individual articles.
  • Group the three Fairy Tail Gaiden titles together. Each one is listed on Kodansha's site as a volume in a three-part Gaiden series and, in the event it warrants an article of its own, should all be done on one article.
  • Change the titles to their official Kodansha-licensed English titles: Tale of Fairy Tail: Ice Trail to Fairy Tail: Ice Trail, Fairy Tail: Blue Mistral to Fairy Tail Blue Mistral (remove the colon), and Fairy Tail Gaiden: The Twin Dragons of Sabertooth to Fairy Tail: Twin Dragons of Saber Tooth (remove "the" and split "Saber Tooth").

March 2017 WikiCup newsletter[edit]

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. It would have been 5 points, but when a late entrant was permitted to join the contest in February, a promise was made that his inclusion would not result in the exclusion of any other competitor. To achieve this, the six entrants that had the lowest positive score of 4 points have been added to the 64 people who otherwise would have qualified. As a result, some of the groups have nine contestants rather than eight. Our top four scorers in round 1 were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber, last year's winner, led the field with two featured articles on birds and a total score of 674.
  • European Union Iry-Hor, a WikiCup newcomer, came next with a featured article, a good article and a tally of 282 bonus points for a score of 517. All these points came from the article Nyuserre Ini, an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh,
  • Japan 1989, another WikiCup newcomer, was in joint third place at 240. 1989 has claimed points for two featured lists and one good article relating to anime and comedy series, all of which were awarded bonus points.
  • South Australia Peacemaker67 shared third place with five good articles and thirteen good article reviews, mostly on naval vessels. He is also new to the competition.

The largest number of DYKs have been submitted by Vivvt and The C of E, who each claimed for seven, and MBlaze Lightning achieved eight articles at ITN. Carbrera and Peacemaker67 each claimed for five GAs and Krishna Chaitanya Velaga was well out in front for GARs, having reviewed 32. No featured pictures, featured topics or good topics yet, but we have achieved three featured articles and a splendid total of fifty good articles.

So, on to the second round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Little Shop of Horrors[edit]

Hi! In this change, you removed song titles from the Plot section with the comment "Cast names and song names are to be in dedicated sections". Can you point me to the policy that says this? I took a look at a sampling of musicals and musical films, and in all of these, the song titles are included in the plot section:

So I'm unclear why these articles have not been written in accordance with this policy. CodeTalker (talk) 23:43, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

Hey there. I thought musical-based films would include songs in the soundtrack section. In actual musicals, we use the song names in the synopsis per the Article Structure page on the musical WikiProject. However, for the musical numbers in the summaries for musical-based films, it doesn't say anything about it in the manual of style for the film WikiProject. Maybe we can ask about the songs in the plot section for musical-based films at WT:MOSFILM. Thoughts? Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 23:55, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
In the absence of a specific guideline, I would have thought that musical films would be treated similarly to musical plays, especially since the guideline for musicals "strongly encourages" the incorporation of the song names into the prose, and also includes the song titles in a separate "List of musical numbers". I don't see an obvious reason that articles for musical films should be structured differently than those for musical plays in this respect. But I certainly have no objection to asking for clarification at WT:MOSFILM. CodeTalker (talk) 22:51, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

May 2017 WikiCup newsletter[edit]

The second round of the competition has now closed, with just under 100 points being required to qualify for round 3. YellowEvan just scraped into the next round with 98 points but we have to say goodbye to the thirty or so competitors who didn't achieve this threshold; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Our top scorers in round 2 were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber, led the field with five featured articles, four on birds and one on astronomy, and a total score of 2049, half of which came from bonus points.
  • Japan 1989 was in second place with 826 points, 466 of which were bonus points. 1989 has claimed points mostly relating to anime and Japanese-related articles.
  • South Australia Peacemaker67 took third place with two FAs, one GA and seven GARs, mostly on naval vessels or military personnel, scoring 543 points.
  • Other contestants who scored over 400 points were Freikorp, Carbrera, and Czar. Of course all these points are now wiped out and the 32 remaining contestants start again from zero in round 3.

Vivvt submitted the largest number of DYKs (30), and MBlaze Lightning achieved 13 articles at ITN. Carbrera claimed for 11 GAs and Argento Surfer performed the most GARs, having reviewed 11. So far we have achieved 38 featured articles and a splendid 132 good articles. Commendably, 279 GARs have been achieved so far, more than double the number of GAs.

So, on to the third round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! List of Fairy Tail characters[edit]

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article List of ‘’Fairy Tail’’ characters has been completed.

A couple of points. In the Grimoire Heart section this sentence appears:

"Afterward, Zeref denounces Grimoire Heart's plans as a fable created by his fanatics and kills Hades, which summon Acnologia to the island and causes Zeref to forsake the value of human life.[ch. 250]"

I’m afraid I cannot make any sense out of this – I hope you can fix it.

In the Reception section we suddenly switch from brief review quotes to lengthy sentences. These really need to be shortened and to the point. This is the section in question:

"Anime News Network writer Rebecca Silverman, in her review of the 20th volume, said, "Mashima still manages to get some action and laughs in as well, including one especially funny subplot involving Gajeel. Wendy takes over from Lucy as the primary female of the series for most of this volume, and how you feel about that will probably depend upon which character you prefer." Silverman also thought that readers "may have had mixed feelings about Jellal's return earlier in this arc, but the bond between him and Erza has been underlying their scenes for most of their page time together [in chapters 162 through 164]." However, she said that "for the romantics in the audience, Jellal is still a criminal, and the government wants him. And so they come for him," and pointed out that "Erza fans and detractors will find it deepens her character a little while still finding it sad."[30]"

At 19,000+ words, perhaps the community should give some thought as to how this could be broken down into shorter lists? The entries themselves seem succinct and to the point.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Regards,

Twofingered Typist (talk) 13:27, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

About "Attack of the Clones"[edit]

Hello

I'm sorry, but I can't understand why the mention of the official Prequel novel to the movie was taken away. That book is part of the story - hell, it even had "An exicting prologue to Star Wars: Attack of the Clones" written on the cover. That was part of its marketing. So what is the problem - please, tell me. Robudor (talk) 04:39, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

Hey there. The Approaching Storm isn't marketed as a prequel to Attack of the Clones; it's part of the media franchise and is set before the film, but it's not really the same time. If the article were to list every single work that precedes the film as prequels, it's going to be listing half of the entire media franchise. By the same token, the article doesn't list every single work that takes place after Attack of the Clones, and there are many, as sequels. Hope this helps. Abandoned Drafts Wikiproject/Draftspace Cleanup[edit]

Hi Sjones23,

As a long time Wiki-editor, I notice you have quite a few old untouched drafts lying about. If you don't need them anymore, consider deleting them, or if needed, do a history merge. I'm sure you know better than I do about this, considering the amount of time you've been a part of this community.

Thanks! Hwdirre (talk) 06:15, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

WikiCup 2017 July newsletter[edit]

The third round of the competition has finished in a flurry of last minute activity, with 288 points being required to qualify for round 4. It was a hotly competitive round with all but four of the contestants exceeding the 106 points that was necessary to proceed to round 4 last year. Coemgenus and Freikorp tied on 288, and both have been allowed to proceed, so round 4 now has one pool of eight competitors and one of nine.

Round 3 saw the achievement of a 26-topic Featured topic by MPJ-DK as well as 5 featured lists and 13 featured articles. PanagiotisZois and SounderBruce achieved their first ever featured articles. Carbrera led the GA score with 10, Tachs achieved 17 DYKs and MBlaze Lightning 10 In the news items. There were 167 DYKs, 93 GARs and 82 GAs overall, this last figure being higher than the number of GAs in round 2, when twice as many people were taking part. Even though contestants performed more GARs than they achieved GAs, there was still some frustration at the length of time taken to get articles reviewed.

As we start round 4, we say goodbye to the fifteen or so competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them (some people have fallen foul of this rule and the points have been removed).

If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! WikiCup 2017 September newsletter[edit]

Round 4 of the WikiCup has ended and we move forward into the final round. In round 4, a total of 12 FAs, 3 FLs, 44 GAs, 3 FLs, 79 DYKs, 1 ITN and 42 GARs was achieved, with no FPs or FTs this time. Congratulations to Peacemaker67 on the Royal Yugoslav Navy Good Topic of 36 items, and the 12 featured articles achieved by Cas Liber (5), Vanamonde93 (3), Peacemaker67 (2), Adityavagarwal (1) and 12george1 (1). With a FA scoring 200 points, and bonus points available on top of this, FAs are likely to feature heavily in the final round. Meanwhile Yellow Evan, a typhoon specialist, was contributing 12 DYKs and 10 GAs, while Adityavagarwal and Freikorp topped the GAR list with 8 reviews each. As we enter the final round, we are down to eight contestants, and we would like to thank those of you who have been eliminated for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. The lowest score needed to reach round 5 was 305, and I think we can expect a highly competitive final round.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck, and let the best man (or woman) win! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Saturday Night Live Band, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Steve Jordan, Chris Parker and Buddy Williams (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Despite the dispute over Bosch as the voice of the Mega Man X character Zero, I should reveal that while MvC3's credits did list him, but did not list any of the characters that the voice actors did for MvCI they did and whether you believe this or not (since I will not be part of this edit conflict), here is a direct link to a Youtube video that has the credits for the cast which can be found right at the beginning of the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTqhyoHJArY). -67.171.250.202 (talk) 14:47, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
