Proposed deletion of Ryan Robbins (footballer)[edit]

Hello, Skyblueshaun. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Ryan Robbins (footballer), for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Ryan Robbins (footballer) to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

If you don't understand this message, you can leave a note on my talk page.

Disambiguation link notification for April 8[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2015–16 Manchester City F.C. season, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Etihad Stadium (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Releases[edit]

Hello. If we're being precise, the last day of a player's contract is 30 June, so it's expired by the time 1 July starts. But the reasoning is that the whole of those players' careers with Birmingham took place before the 15/16 season, so it isn't logical to tabulate them in it.

If anyone ever writes any proper prose for the background section, it'd make sense to include a sentence about the major departures, particularly that of Colin Doyle, which the Birmingham Mail calls the "end of an era", but that's enough. Thanks for asking. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:34, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Not convinced, personally. If the releases are listed in the season in which the players leave, their playing positions and nationalities already appear in the appearances and goals section, so it's an unnecessary duplication. You'd need additional sources to verify the more specific playing positions. And if you're listing non-notable kids (first-year professionals who've never been within miles of the first team, for instance) you'd need sources not just for playing position but also for nationality: the BCFC club site doesn't list them. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:32, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Good work[edit]

Hi, I've noticed that you've spent a lot of time over the past few days adding stuff to club's 2015-16 season articles. Just to let you know that someone does appreciate it! Eng66 (talk) 19:55, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Sadly, usually non-league clubs season articles are going to be deleted through WP:NSEASONS. Personally, I would love if you'll break this rule. Good luck! Martinklavier (talk) 08:14, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
I noticed you'd created many of the 2015-16 Conference National (or whatever they are calling it these days) articles while I was creating a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#Notablity of seasons articles for Conference Premier teams; based on the outcome of that discussion I'd expect many, if not all, to be deleted. Much of the reason I started the discussion is my concern about the amount of time spent on these articles, whose existence is tentative, at best. While I think the articles should be there, many (if not most) don't, and I wanted to give you a head's up, before you spent too much more time on them. Nfitz (talk) 20:29, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

I think the other user is correct, they are being released by Blackpool, it is not a transfer to the club they subsequently sign for as a free agent. GiantSnowman 11:53, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

Just so you know, GMT is not UTC+1 like you added for the start times of matches on this page. GMT = UTC + 0, and is what Britain uses in the winter, the start times for those matches are actually in BST, which is UTC + 1, and is what Britain uses in the Summer. Edit to 2015–16 York City F.C. season[edit]

Hi, a few comments regarding your recent edit to 2015–16 York City F.C. season. Per WP:ENDASH, "en dash in a range is always unspaced", so there should no spaces in scorelines. The reference you added did not support the time the goal was scored or the attendance, and neither did you include an access date. I've sorted these out now, but could you please be mindful of these for future editing. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 00:37, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

Please take on board my comment regarding spaces in scorelines, as I see you are continuing to add them. Mattythewhite (talk) 11:58, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
Could you please remember to add the |accessdate= parameter to every web based reference you add? Mattythewhite (talk) 17:01, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
Hi, a couple of comments after this edit. |accessdate= is for the date you accessed the reference, which was 19 August 2015, not 18 August 2015. And |date= needs adding whenever applicable, which for that source was 18 August 2015. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:35, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Primary Sources[edit]

Just some advice, please don't take this the wrong way because I think you're a great editor. When updating football articles, you tend to use club websites as references as your recent edits would suggest. You shouldn't do this because club websites are Primary sources. On Wikipedia, we're supposed to use Third-party reliable sources. The problem with club websites is that they're Primary, therefore they can be biased (I'm sure you know Wikipedia is meant to be neutral); also this is where the news is usually first reported, so they often get things wrong and update/ adjust their own articles acordingly. So in future, instead of referencing a club's website, please reference BBC Sport, Sky Sports News and other news sites. Check out Wikipedia:Third-party sources for more details. Kind regards IJA (talk) 08:29, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

I've brought it up with Wikiproject Football to seek some clarification. Regards IJA (talk) 14:26, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
I think the outcome of the discussion is to use both a primary and a third party source. IJA (talk) 13:02, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

It's not just results![edit]

Whenever you update a result, you must add the player statistics and yellow cards, etc. Your recent edits to 2015–16 Fulham F.C. season didn't do this. Spa-Franks (talk) 21:09, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Actually, that's not true. We're volunteers and we can add whatever we like as long as it's within policy. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:12, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
If you're still only going to do one section, can't you at least do it correctly?? In every match summary there should be a list of the yellow-carded. This was missing from the Fulham vs Sheff Utd match summary. Spa-Franks (talk) 15:35, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Introduction to the National League clubs season articles[edit]

I guess the way articles starts with the number of clubs seasons in Conference is not quite accurate, because Conference consisted of Conference North/South too. Also I believe, as the league was renamed, there must be a mention of it, so we could use name 'National League' further in the article without a confusion. Look at what i've done for a Chester season article. I am not sure about the grammar, though. Lets try to find an ideal foreword. Cheers, Martinklavier (talk) 06:35, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

Career stats tables[edit]

Hello. You may be unaware that there is (and has been for some time now) a standard format for these, whch lives at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players. For verifiability reasons, inline sourcing is much preferable to a link stuck above the table. Please don't change any more tables away from the standard. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 17:19, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for adding sourced stats tables, but please ensure they meet the format at the above link. A table caption should be present above the table, divisions should be to be in separate cells for accessibility reasons, season links should be to club season articles and not the generic "in English football" articles, and there's no need for "(loan)" to be in italics. Also, we don't need "Continental" or "Europe" columns when a player hasn't played in any such competition. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 21:40, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
At Peter Ramage, you removed the table caption which is required by Wikipedia's Manual of Style for accessibility, replaced club season links with generic "year in football" links which are far less relevant to the player's career, removed the footnotes that told the reader what additional competitions the player had appeared in, and changed reference names thereby breaking the referencing elsewhere in the article.
Shaun, if you think the standard format for stats tables should be changed, please start a discussion to that effect at the relevant talk page. Until you do that, and gain consensus for your preferred version, please stick to that standard format. Thank you for listening. Struway2 (talk) 08:43, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
The dash implies that there were no matches in that competition for the player to appear in. Either there was no such competition in the country, or the club wasn't eligible for it (Conference clubs in the League Cup, for instance), or the club had aleady been eliminated when the player joined, or the player was cup-tied when he joined, or (generally for short loans) they just didn't play any matches in that competition while the player was there, or whatever.
0 implies there were games to play in, but he just didn't play in them.
One thing that needs watching out for, is what competitions the source covers. Soccerbase is fine for British higher-division clubs, and for lower-division clubs for league competitions and (usually) major cups. But for Conference clubs, which it's only recently started covering at all seriously, it often doesn't include early rounds of the FA Cup or FA Trophy matches, and even for lower-division league clubs, it doesn't always include FL Trophy or early FA Cup rounds. It's best to either check the club site or some alternative reliable source for accurate figures, or else leave the cell(s) blank. Soccerway counts playoffs as league matches, which Wikipedia doesn't, and its coverage of cup competitions doesn't go back as far as its league appearance data.
It's worth having a look through the talk page, to see what's been discussed and what hasn't. And there's some FAQs at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Players/Archive 2#Stats table template needs to be updated. Although I think some discussions might well have taken place at the main WT:FOOTY talk page as well. Thanks for asking, Struway2 (talk) 10:21, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for removing the assists from Joe Cole's stats table. Hopefully now Mr Cole is a less high-profile club than some of his previous ones, they might not find their way straight back in... But I repeat what I said above about making sure your source covers what you're using it for. Soccerbase isn't a reliable source for non-British clubs: I'm surprised you didn't wonder about that when Soccerbase didn't have any cup appearances for Mr Cole for Lille and the previous version of the table did. There was a reliable source for French league and cup stats above the previous version: his profile at the French League website. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:26, 13 January 2016 (UTC)
Should have said at a less high-profile club... Only meant that fanboys of "big" clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona etc are often very keen on including all sorts of stats in "their" players' pages, and very reluctant to have them taken out. But when the player leaves their club, they're often less keen on keeping the table maintained. No offence or confusion intended.
Sourcing is the same for career stats as for anything else in an article. We have to use a reliable source that includes the information we want to give the reader. So if the player was playing in a country outside the UK, we have to find a source (or a combination of sources) that covers that country's clubs in general or his specific club in particular. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:38, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

January 2016[edit]

Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize pages by deliberately introducing incorrect information, as you did at Bojan Jokić, you may be blocked from editing. Perhaps you could explain why you added "sources" to the rows in the career stats table at this page, such as this Soccerbase link, that don't even mention the club whose statistics you're claiming it verifies? Struway2 (talk) 21:53, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

- instead 0[edit]

It is easier to read a table if there are " - " instead of lots of " 0 " and also in football "0" is used just for football matches scores, you can say that you won't 0 trophies or 0 runner-ups, so thats why you better use a line instead of 0 in tables. And already many tables related to football use this system already. Thank you.

Re: Reverted Edits[edit]

I reverted the edits to 2015–16 Senegal Premier League and 2016 Elite One due to your deleting the head-to-head column, which is important information as it is the first tiebreaker in these leagues. I don't specifically remember what the issue with 2015–16 Rwanda National Football League but it was likely only a partial update so it was easier to start over and know exactly what needed to be updated instead of figuring out which games were accounted for and which were not.

Speedy deletion nomination of List of international goals scored by Javier Hernández[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on List of international goals scored by Javier Hernández, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Proposed deletion of 2015–16 Tranmere Rovers F.C. season[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article 2015–16 Tranmere Rovers F.C. season has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:SEASONS (as the team wasn't in a fully professional league) as well as WP:GNG as all available coverage (e.g. match reports; transfer announcements) are WP:ROUTINE

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Free Agents / Previous Clubs[edit]

Hi, I noticed again your removal of "Free agent" from a signing's status on the current Rotherham United F.C. season article. It seems quite misrepresentative to talk about Kelvin Wilson being signed by Rotherham from Nottingham Forest F.C. when in fact there was over a month between him being released and signing. How long is a player a free agent before he is classed as a free agent for the purpose of a transfer in/out? Is there a consensus already on this please? Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 12:02, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi, would appreciate it if you could respond to this please, given you've just updated Lewis Buxton's transfer. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 19:14, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for your response. I have to say I believe differently, especially where reliable sources say the player has been released and/or the player was signed after being released. Can you point at a previous consensus for this, or should we take it to WP:FOOTY to establish one? Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 19:19, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Nottingham Forest season.[edit]

Hello Skyblueshaun. Thanks for your recent message and comments. I note that the players you had added to the In/Out section of the page 2016-17 Nottingham Forest F.C. season are, or were, players of Nottingham Forest F.C., and that you have a reliable source to prove this. However, there had been a note beneath each table of this section to say that only players named to the First Team were included, and none of the players you edited were/are members of the First Team. Here's a suggestion; a new section is created to list the players who were signed to or sold/released from the Reserves and Academy of Nottingham Forest F.C. - titled 'Reserves and Academy Transfers' - and a link added to the pageNottingham Forest F.C. Under-21s Squad and Academy. The section currently titled 'Player Transfers' could be renamed 'First Team Transfers'. Please let me know your thoughts. Kind regards, Charleydrgreen.

Revert of Jon Taylor transfer fee on 2016–17 Rotherham United F.C. season[edit]

Hi, I reverted your addition of the £500k Jon Taylor transfer fee from 2016–17 Rotherham United F.C. season. Although the BBC article confidently stated "for £500k" in the headline, in the text it says "reported to be around £500k". However there is no RS backing up this BBC "reported as" statement. The club have stated undisclosed but breaks the transfer record. We should stay with this. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 09:59, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Edited to add: Also removed the £300k Will Vaulks transfer fee, as the source you used is not a reliable source. Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 11:18, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
