Ross Hutchins

Ambox warning pn.svg

The article Ross Hutchins has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content. If you can provide more information about this subject, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 18:01, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Bob Lanier[edit]

According to WP:V, "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth—meaning, in this context, whether readers are able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether we think it is true. Editors should provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is challenged or is likely to be challenged, or the material may be removed." Please provide a reliable source that states that Lanier recorded a quintuple double, and we can include it in the article. Bash Kash (talk) 19:09, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Please read my comment at the bottom of the talk page. Bash Kash (talk) 20:54, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Replied at the talk page. Bash Kash (talk) 18:38, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

LOL, I'm not mad, I'm just saying that we need reliable sources. I looked for a very long time on the internet, and I have concluded that quintuple double thing is nothing more than an internet rumor. However, if you want to prove me wrong, you're going to have to come up with something better than a fourm or Yahoo! Ansers. Bash Kash (talk) 19:05, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Information.svg Thanks for experimenting with the page 2008 Philadelphia Phillies season on Wikipedia. Your recent edit appears to have added incorrect information, and has been reverted or removed. All information in the encyclopedia must be verifiable in a reliable published source. If you believe the information you added was correct, please cite references or sources or discuss the changes on the article's talk page before making them. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Information for the season pages is drawn directly from the official MLB box score, and blatantly incorrect attendance figures, among others, can and will be vigorously reverted. Hearing something on the radio does not make it verifiable. Please read the policy, which states that "[the] threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth—meaning, in this context, whether readers are able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether we think it is true." This source and this one are both verifiable sources.KV5Squawk boxFight on! 11:03, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Redirects[edit]

If you'd like to create a redirect page, you can create the page with the name you would like to redirect, then click the #R button at the top of the editor, then fill in your link. Alternatively, you can insert the code #REDIRECT [[Insert text]], making sure to enclose the link to the alternative site in double square brackets (the wikilink) so that it redirects properly. If you would like to see an example that I've done, go to Phillies seasons. This will redirect you to "Philadelphia Phillies seasons," and there is a link at the top so you can look at the code for the redirect. If you need more help, just ask! Recent edits to Tiger Woods[edit]

I still believe your recent addition should not be included because the event is not notable. Additionally, the section contains original research: were the remarks really "controversial?" What "criticism" was offered? Please see Wikipedia:NOT#NEWS and Wikipedia:OR. Farside6 (talk) 01:36, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Nuvola apps important.svg You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Tiger Woods. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. Please discuss on the talk page thread before reverting again. ZimZalaBim talk 12:02, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Rushfrank.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Rushfrank.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ZimZalaBim talk 12:41, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Rushfrank.jpg)[edit]

Nuvola apps important blue.svg Thanks for uploading Image:Rushfrank.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:13, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Please stop removing this tag fromImage:Rushfrank.jpg. The image is orphaned. --ZimZalaBim talk 20:41, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Copyright problem: National Golf Coaches Association[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! A number of the images you have uploaded appear to be taken from websites, which are likely protected under copyright, and not licensed under Creative Commons like you suggest. For example, Image:Psumenchampions.jpg seems to come from here. Please familiarize yourself with our image use policy, as we generally cannot accept copyright-protected images without valid fair use rationales. Thank you. --ZimZalaBim talk 16:24, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Commercial use of Image:Bruins1989.jpg[edit]

Information icon.svg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Bruins1989.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Bruins1989.jpg has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[2][3]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Bruins1989.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. Proposed deletion of Huggy Wuggy[edit]

Nuvola apps important yellow.svg

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Huggy Wuggy, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 13:28, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Tiger Woods[edit]

Information.svg Please do not delete content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Tiger Woods, without explaining the valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Thank you. Just becuase your contribution has been considered by some to be inappropriate, does not mean you should remove other content that has been included. Please don't disrupt articles to make a point. AfD nomination of Huggy Wuggy[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

I have nominated Huggy Wuggy, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Huggy Wuggy. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? ZimZalaBim talk 13:39, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Your edits[edit]

Hi. A large majority of your edits seem to be less-than-constructive, either inserting inappropriate material, uploading copyright-protected images, or creating inappropriate articles. I suggest you pause, and read through the articles provided in the "welcome" message at the top of this talk page. Further disruption could lead to suspension of your editing privileges. Thanks. --ZimZalaBim talk 13:43, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Huggy Wuggy[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on Huggy Wuggy, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Alexius08 is welcome to talk about his contributions. 14:31, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Regarding your edits[edit]

It is unnecessary to include this information in the article Brett Myers at this time. It is easier to classify and categorize baseball statistics month by month. Please be civil. Do not use the existence of other pages to justify the existence of information which you consider to be notable. Thank you. KV5Squawk boxFight on! 14:00, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Flagging Charles Torjo for further review[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg

Hello, Smuckers … I recently encountered the article about Charles Torjo and in my opinion, it either lacks sufficient Attribution that it satisfies the Notability criteria for Biographies, or it may violate the Conflict of interest guideline, or perhaps it violates a copyright.

I am considering tagging Charles Torjo (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) for deletion according to the Deletion policy … I do not have time to examine the article in depth at the moment, and it may improve over time, in which case this warning was premature.

I have created this initial entry on your Talk page because you are either the original author of the article, or else a recent contributor to it; I will leave more detailed information regarding my specific concerns about the article on its Discussion page … please respond either there or on this Talk page, instead of on my Talk page, in order to avoid fragmenting the conversation.

Be sure to read Ownership of articles, and remember that other editors may not share your opinion about the notability of the article's subject.

I do not mean to imply that your contribution is unappreciated … perhaps you should read Your first article … and remember, there was a time when I knew less about how Wikipedia works than you know right now. — Triwbe (talk) 11:59, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Hidal Tinav[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on Hidal Tinav requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ukexpat (talk) 19:51, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. As stated in the above notice, the article does not indicate why he is important or significant. If you can deal with that issue, the article will survive speedy deletion, but you will also need to show why this person is notable per WP:BIO and support that with some sources. – ukexpat (talk) 20:24, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Information.svg Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Hidal Tinav. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion. Thank you. ukexpat (talk) 03:15, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Per WP:TPG, please don't remove comments (even your own) from article talk pages, as you've been doing (apparently also while not logged in) at Talk:Nicole Fawcett. Your recent edit to my talk page[edit]

I have not made any "joke edits," and I have no idea what you're talking about. Please double-check before you place erroneous templates on users' talk pages. And there's no need to "welcome" me; I've been here a good deal longer than you have. Coemgenus 13:04, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Same here. What's the deal? Stevie is the man! TalkWork 17:30, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Smuckers: I reverted your edit to the comment Coemgenus left above; I don't the s/he was being rude. Rather than leaving more comments on others' talk pages about being rude, perhaps you should reply to the two queries above regarding why you left {{joke}} on their talk pages? --ZimZalaBim talk 22:38, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Sigh. Ok. Please don't give users warning for edits they performed 2 years ago, as you've accused Coemgenus (without evidence, I might add). Also, in the future, when such a warning is appropriate, please follow the instructions on the template's page (i.e., Template:Joke) regarding template substitution ("subst:"), and using the parser function to add more detail to the warning, thus helping those being warned understand what the devil you're talking about. (Honestly, I don't feel you're at a level of technical or policy proficiency to go around warning people, but that's not for me to decide). --ZimZalaBim talk 22:56, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
So just because I'm not an admin, I can't try to help Wikipedia? Without the "non-admins", Wikipedia wouldn't have any edits and would have 1,000,000 less pages. I'm not mad, but I feel like you're saying I'm inferior to everyone else =( Smuckers It has to be good 23:00, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
I didn't mention anything about being an admin. But going around and simply leaving WP:STALK (diff) or {{joke}} (diff and diff) on various pages without any context or explanation shows a lack of understanding of how to do these things. That's all I'm saying.--ZimZalaBim talk 23:10, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Please cite the edit in question and explain why you felt it was necessary to correct it two years after the fact. Coemgenus 11:05, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
IMO, I felt that (This) "To hell with IE" was a joke edit. I realize it's older. Also, I didn't write "Welcome", the template autmatically writes that. Smuckers It has to be good 13:12, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
I added a user box to my own user page and included a whimsical edit summary. Neither of these is vandalism. I hope this experience has taught you to use caution with templates generally, and especially when questioning established editors about edits to their own user pages. I will assume good faith and chalk this up to an honest mistake, but I advise you to be more prudent in the future. Coemgenus 15:14, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

re:edits to infobox at Maine South High School[edit]

Greetings Smuckers!

I wanted to stop by with an explanation as to why I reversed some of your edits to the infobox in this article

The infobox, because it is a template, works very oddly at times. This big one has a lot of space for information, but also has some peculiarities that are different as to how you and I would interpret things.

The "mascot" entry is typically used for a named mascot like "Howard the Hawk" or "Donnie the Demon" or something like that. "Nickname" is for the actual "name". This is not something I came up with, rather what I have observed after observing and editing a lot of school articles.

If there is no mascot named, anything in "mascot image" will not show up. Virtually every school article I have seen uses some image of the school crest or some other symbol at the top of the infobox, and an actual photograph at the bottom. When I set up Maine South's I was shooting for a level of uniformity.

I just wanted to given an explanation instead of simply reverting anonymously. LonelyBeacon (talk) 22:00, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Proposed deletion of Donald Bolt[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Donald Bolt, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. howcheng {chat} 16:25, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Recentism tag[edit]

The "recentism" tag you added to Barack Obama has been removed, because it was completely inappropriate and redundant. Please try to think more carefully about your contributions to this BLP in future. Discuss proposed changes on the talk page before doing anything to the article itself - particularly since a very high percentage of your edits are getting reverted for similar reasons. -- Scjessey (talk) 22:06, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

2008 Philadelphia Phillies season[edit]

Please refrain from tagging the statistics section with an update tag. My time is very limited right now, and no one other than me is going to take the time to update it. I am aware that it needs to be updated, and I am planning on taking this article to GA, and perhaps FA eventually, so it will get done. The tag is completely unnecessary and has been removed. KV5Squawk boxFight on! 12:18, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

No, it's not "completely unnecessary". If you have a section on something like stats that is on a popular page, it should be updated. I removed your "hidden message". I felt as though it was rude and an attack. Please be Civil. We're all trying to make the article improve, but to call someone "insensitive to me working", is out of line and really didn't need to be done. It's not like I said "Killervogel5 should be the one updating the stats!". An established editor like you should know that attacks on someone is uncalled for. Smuckers It has to be good 12:23, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
If you think it should be updated, the best course of action is to update it yourself, not to leave a template demanding that someone else do it. This is, after all, "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit." Coemgenus 13:00, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
In addition, communicate using my talk page, not edit summaries. If you want to single someone out, there's the best way to do it, and you did. KV5Squawk boxFight on! 13:02, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
I did leave a message on your talk page? Also, this is not the first time I think you've attacked me, KV5. On the talk page when I asked "why is no one updating the game log" you were kind of rude. Do you not like me? Smuckers It has to be good 13:10, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm not attacking you, but I do get frustrated with some of your edits. You do a lot of tagging and templating in articles that I work on and it's extremely frustrating to see things that are on my list to do or to finish get marked up by someone else. If you see something that needs to be fixed, fix it. It feels like you'd rather demand for others to do things that work on them yourself. Things like statistical tables take a long time to update, and I know they are a lot of work, but think how much more work it is for one person to do it all the time. It's not a matter of like or dislike. This is Wikipedia, not real life. KV5Squawk boxFight on! 14:42, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Digger Phelps[edit]

I wonder if you might elaborate on this, particularly relative to whether you have any source for it. In response to a query about his Wikipedia bio on a local sports talk show today, Phelps averred that he has never played chess in his life. The factoid, interestingly, has gotten into his official GameDay bio, which seems to have been distilled from our page. Were the trivium inserted by an anon, I might, my distaste for our elevating registered users above the unwashed masses notwithstanding, imagine it to be simple vandalism, but this is evidently a good-faith edit, and so I am just curious (especially because I recall having heard elsewhere that Digger was a chess player) about its genesis. Joe 22:13, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I added it because I read I must have seen it somewhere online, not knowing it (was probably) false. I put it up because I thought it was worth noting. I am sorry I did not put a source. Hope you aren't mad at me. From, --Smuckers It has to be good 16:45, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
No, not mad at all; I did not doubt your good faith and was (and remain) just perplexed (I am sure that I, as you, have seen Phelps and chess associated before—and not only on a mirror or the ESPN.com bio [the researcher for which got a bit lazy, one supposes]). Thanks, in any case, for your reply. Cheers, Joe 19:28, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi Smuckers. My name is Mike Lyons and I am a doctoral student at Indiana University. I am conducting research on the writing and editing of high traffic “current events” articles on Wikipedia. I have noticed in the talk page archives at Barack Obama that you have contributed to the editing or maintenance of the article. I was hoping you would agree to fill out a brief survey about your experience. This study aims to help expand our thinking about collaborative knowledge production. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Orphaned non-free media (File:VBLOGONCAA.jpg)[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading File:VBLOGONCAA.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:33, 4 June 2013 (UTC)
