please use arguments to counter wp:undue and wp:point violations

Welcome, and thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia.

  • Your test moveon the page Azad Kashmir / Pakistan occupied Kashmir has been reverted. Please take a look at the welcome page or introduction to editing to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia.Cityvalyu (talk) 02:43, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Your page move edit appears to be unconstructive and you have not used to used the talk page to counter the arguments.Further the edits that you reverted were well explained in the talk page unlike your edits. Hence, it appears to be an edit war with no logical backing to counter the issues discussed at the talk page. If you believe the edit was constructive, ensure that you provide an informative point by point rebuttal to counter the arguments on talk page and then please state the reasons for reverting to a "per se controversial" title (Azad Kashmir) that violates wp:undue and wp:point.Cityvalyu (talk) 02:43, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:NPsouthafrica.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:NPsouthafrica.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:15, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

reword

u wrote " India claims both AJK & FANA as 'PoK'"..you may have erred..first, pok is a term which came to exist from 1947..the article on northern areas and ak say that pakistan coined these terms and carved these entities out of pok (or whatever you wish to call that entity) AFTER 1970....SO, INDIA DOES NOT CLAIM ANYTHING HERE..constant name from 1947 till now-pok!! INSTEAD PAKISTAN CLAIMS THESE TWO TERMS (USED EXCLUSIVELY ONLY WITHIN PAKISTAN) AND THESE BIASED POST 1970 TERMS LACK MEANING TOO (AZADI=INDEPENDENCE)to erase pok memory and imply northern areas of pok was not under kashmir conflict(implying merger with pak state)..only fools will believe that and support its unilateral decision to betray the kashmiri cause by ceding kashmir territory to china.... SO wE HAVE TO WEED OUT PAK. PROPAGANDA AND USE OBJECTIVE TERMS UNDERSTOOD BY ALL!! i suggest a rewording "pak. claims pok is made up of two areas ajk and na after 1970.."..that should sound neutral and without any confabulation!!!Kashmircloud (talk) 21:32, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

insulting other editors

I notice that this edit history your reinserted comment didn't contain any earthshaking new perspective comes off as an insult to other editors. I just thought I will bring it to your attention. DockuHi 12:26, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

look, we have to be able to separate between the edits and the editors. Criticism of an edit doesn't necessarily mean disrespect of the editor in question. My criticism of cityvalyu's edit was essentially that it didn't contain very much more than a candid repeat of his 'keep' vote. My understanding was that there was no content in the latter edits that would have caused the closing admin to withdraw his closure. --Soman (talk) 12:37, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
It may be the case. In a poinsoned environment like that, even such a candid remark could be unhelpful. There was no need for you to revert his edit (as an involved party), a non-involved admin could have done it. DockuHi 12:42, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Look, the AfD was already closed, with the tags "Please do not modify it." and "No further edits should be made to this page.". At that point cityvalyu should have understood that further edits in that particular AfD was futile, my revert was merely a formality. --Soman (talk) 12:47, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Well, Shouldn't I have known that you have your own reasons why you did what you did, I thought I would let u know that I noticed the incendiary and insulting remark on the edit history you made. DockuHi 12:54, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
i think you can agree that 'incendiary' is not the appropriate term here. Do you think cityvalyu's last comments provided any 'earthshaking new perspective'? --Soman (talk) 13:15, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
But you and me are not the judge on that. DockuHi 13:16, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:FAsouthafrica.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Valencian Left (1934), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Valencian Left. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 08:29, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Kongunadu Makkal Katchi

A tag has been placed on Kongunadu Makkal Katchi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Forked articles (Valencian Left (1934))

Just a quick note to say that, when you take content from one article as a base for a new one, you should wikilink the original article in the edit summary of the first revision of the new article. This is to keep the GFDL attribution of the users' who edited the first article. Best, – Toon(talk) 23:54, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

I pressed save a bit to quick, and as you know edit summaries cannot be changed retrospectively. I did however, post a notice at Talk:Valencian_Left_(1934). I did also clearly state the shifting at [1]. --Soman (talk) 06:42, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I always hit return when trying to use "]" - which can be a pain! No worries, I added a note to the bottom of the article as well, just to make it clearer. Best, – Toon(talk) 14:46, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Wasakärven.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Wasakärven.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Lokal_Profil 13:20, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Discrimination against the Bihari community in India=

Hi Soman The article Racism faced by Bihari community in India, has been systematically altered to change the voice of the article. A similar edit was done in the past as well. Kindly refer the discussion here - Talk:Violence_against_Hindi-speaking_migrants_in_India#cleanup .

A systematic attempt has been made to change the voice (and not the tone) of the article which I feel is equivalent to deleting the article, which was protested at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Racism_faced_by_Bihari_people_in_India and writing a new article all together. The out come of the discussion ( Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Racism_faced_by_Bihari_people_in_India )was clearly against the deletion of the article.

I would request you to protect the article to it's previous edition titled " Discrimination against Biharis in India " till a agreement is reached. Thanks Manoj nav (talk) 17:57, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Free Norrland

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Free Norrland, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. CPI_national party

It is a good point. I do remember having read what I had added somewhere and I can back it up soon. I am also aware that it doesnt necessarily have to be right just because i can back it up. Whether CPI was a national party at that time is debatable. Docku:“what up?” 17:54, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the source. Docku:“what up?” 18:22, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
BSP and NCP are categorised here as national parties. As per the definition as seen here, they might very well be national parties, but they are not perceived as national parties in most of the India. Perception and definition can be different and guess you are right that we go by definition. Docku:“what up?” 18:44, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Zydokomuna

Regarding this [2]. I tend to agree that to label KPP as "anti-Jewish" is unfair, after all KPP more than often came to deffend the Polish Jewish community against state-sponsored Polish antisemitism and anti-Jewish pogroms in the Second Polish Republic. It is also true, however, that the Jewish religious community and KPP were in strong opposition. I think that the both of these aspects can and should be reflected in the article. I'm confident we can find satisfying wording for this complex historical reality with a little bit of effort, and further discussions on talk. Cheers.M0RD00R (talk) 17:16, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Anti-Stalinist left. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. --90.240.225.27 (talk) 18:41, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

There's actually not much meaning in posting retaliatory 3rr notices. The point of the 3rr warning is to inform other, perhaps less experienced users of the existence of the 3rr rule. Since I posted a notice on your talk page four minutes earlier, it would be fair to assume that I was aware of the rule. --Soman (talk) 18:43, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

The figures refer to SERP in 1906, which according to your article is the JSWP, and more specifically it has "one hundred were killed during the fighting, three hundred wounded, and about one thousand arrested." If you are interested, Frankel cites this as the source of the figures:

I've got a book that briefly mentions relations between Cuba and Vanuatu. I don't think it says much, though. I'll have a look tomorrow. Thanks for reminding me! (Incidentally, I think Tonga established relations with the Soviet Union, primarily as a way of getting increased aid from a suddenly worried West. But you're right, Vanuatu was by far the closest to the Eastern Bloc, with a foreign policy resolutely independent from the West.) Aridd (talk) 23:25, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Modification to Pinarayi Vijayan Page

I have noticed 2 things in the page, which I thought need modification.

1. V. S. Achithanandan's suspension from PB also was mentioned with that of Pinarayi Vijayan. But entry back to PB was mentioned only of Pinarayi. I think its intentional delivery of partial information. I have modified that point, please edit appropriately if you fee to do so.

2. Children's education. Agitation against self financing colleges was a very controversial and prolonged one. The Kuthuparamba firing was part of it. I think it is important to mention these things in relation to the fact that his children got education from self financing colleges. Here too, pls do "reasonable" editing if you feel so.

Proposed deletion of Canarian Socialist Party

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Canarian Socialist Party, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process.

Speedy deletion of Uzhavar Uzhaippalar Katchi

A tag has been placed on Uzhavar Uzhaippalar Katchi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. RavichandarMy coffee shop 14:43, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Maoists in Nepal to be renamed in Communist Party of Nepal

Hi. Have you heard of that? Check [4]. "Nepal Maoists ready to abandon Mao", 17 Oct 2008, 1800 hrs IST, TNN. -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:37, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes. But I think the article makes some mistakes in analysis. The nameshift has nothing to do with sino-nepalese relations. Its a condition but by Unity Centre-Masal for a merger. If such a name change would take place, we should move CPN(M) to Communist Party of Nepal and the old CPN to Communist Party of Nepal (1949). --Soman (talk) 08:41, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I also believe this has nothing to do with any sino-nepalese relations. We must be prepared to have rename some articles. That's all. -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:43, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Be VERY careful when moving radio station pages as there is no "-AM" in AM call signs, like in the move you made. If you wish to move a page, please go to WP:RM and request a move, an admin will move it for you to avoid problems like these. - NeutralHomerTalk • October 25, 2008 @ 15:20

I reacted rather strongly against the logic of letting a U.S. college AM station have precedence over an international federation with 130 million members, and thus took the bold step of doing an unilateral move. Honestly, I think the -am/(am) differentiation appears to be less problematic. --Soman (talk) 08:05, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Liberal Party Bangladesh

I am puzzled about the Liberal Party Bangladesh, but I found Bangladesh Election Commission - Participating Parties and their symbols for Parliament Election 2001 http://www.ecs.gov.bd/English/PartySymble.php?&electionid=8&electionName=Parliament%20Election%202001 which suggests that a party by that name participated in the 2001 general elections. When I used the Google Chrome browser to try to visit Liberal Party Bangladesh at http://www.liberalbd.org/ , I got a warning that it was a malware site. I added a hoax tag to the article, which you can remove if you wish. See also Liberal Democratic Party (Bangladesh), which may be related. -- Eastmain (talk) 12:42, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

I do think there are some vanity issues here, that the article was created to promote a very small party. But per my findings, see article talk page, i don't think its a complete hoax. --Soman (talk) 12:56, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

WCNL

Hiya.. The problems I saw:

  • 5 out of 6 references are to a single source; more sources are better
  • Tone and language: terms like "government crackdown" and "repressive measures" are both POV and essentially weasel words; if repressive measures were taken, for example, then detail them with sources. roux ] [x] 08:22, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

I have nominated Bundelkhand Mukti Morcha, an article that you created, for deletion. Wouldn't mind a chat...

... off wiki sometime. I keep falling over these great Cambodian history articles you've written - I don't even bother to check the history anymore - I just guess it was Soman. Send me a mail sometime and we can swap sources - I've got email enabled in my prefs. Just been reading Keo Meas, Nop Bophann, Um Neng and Cambodian parliamentary election, 1955 - keep up the great work. Cheers, --Paxse (talk) 15:46, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Absolutely, Cambodia and its history are fascinating (that's most of why I first came here in '96). Unfortunately, Cambodia coverage on Wikipedia is still poor - though thanks to you and others like User:Dr. Blofeld things are a hell of a lot better than they were 18 months ago. I love adding articles on Cambodia and improving the ones that we have. However, It's the two steps forward one step back aspect of working on Cambodia that frustrates the hell out of me. The pointless CSDs, PRODs and AfDs of Cambodian (or any little known third world country) topics that are just part of basic coverage - it shits me to tears. When I stumbled across WP:CSB in early 2007 it became one of the first (the first?) places I signed up on the 'pedia. Keep on keeping up the good fight against ignorance, narrow-mindedness, bigotry and plain old racism - it's appreciated by plenty of people both on and off wikipedia. Including me! Cheers, --Paxse (talk) 17:49, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Uvlogo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Uvlogo.jpg.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:09, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Marxist Study Centre

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Marxist Study Centre, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Notability has not been established. Unable to find significant coverage in secondary sources as per Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies).

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Karmon quote

The Karmon reference was taken from an article by Mr Karmon himself which is available online at http://www.tau.ac.il/Anti-Semitism/asw2005/karmon.html (International Terror and Antisemitism − Two Modern Day Curses: Is there a Connection?) I have not read the book.

He repeats the claim and the reference at http://212.150.54.123/articles/articledet.cfm?articleid=120 (German and Palestinian Terrorist Organizations: Strange Bedfellows - An examination of the coalitions among terrorist organizations).

As far as I can tell Hans-Joachim Klein of the RZ recanted after Entebbe and sent a letter to Spiegel containing a list of Jewish targets the RZ were planning to attack. There is a letter published online from the RZ to Hans-Joachim Klein responding to the allegations admitting that they planned to murder Heinz Galinski, the head of the German Jewish community. http://www.etext.org/Politics/Autonome.Forum/Guerrilla/Europe/Revolutionary.Cells/rz-klein

" instead of reflecting on Galinski's role in the crimes of Zionism, for the cruelties of Israel's imperialistic army, you don't reflect on the propaganda work and material support of this guy, you don't see him as anything other than "a leader of the Jewish community", and: you don't reflect about what to do against this fact, and what could be done in a country like ours... You avoid this political discussion and get exited about the maintained (anti-semitism?) fascism of the RZ and the men behind them."

Edit war

It doesn't matter which part of the material you are edit warring about. It doesn't matter that the main problems are in another article. It doesn't even really matter who is right or wrong. Corrected template used. sinneed (talk) 14:01, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Please stop posting phony notices. Instead, you may answer the following questions: 1) which of my edits have didn't 'appear constructive and has been removed', 2) i've reverted the Wagenknecht article once. What's your definition of editwarring really? Perhaps reading WP:VANDAL might be of some guidance, as per what constitutes vandalism and what doesn't. --Soman (talk) 13:57, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
This is not a phony notice. If you check, you will find that you and other editors are reverting repeatedly. That is edit warring. Stop it. I do apologize for using the wrong template. My error. I will fix it now.

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Sahra Wagenknecht. This is not a phony warning. You are edit warring. You have made no attempt to reach consensus, yet continue to revert. Stop it. sinneed (talk) 14:00, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Do you think I'm close to breaching 3RR? As a rule, it's good to avoid crying wolf. There is a problem in the wider scope of edit conflicts across various Die Linke-related articles, and Linkswechsel has sought dialogue with Jörg ÖA. Moreover, he/she has sought conflict resolution from other editors through a Request for Arbitration. That said, the edit history of the Sahra Wagenknecht article specifically doesn't really signal an edit warring that has spiralled out of control. Edit-warring is when an article is constantly unstable, going through multiple reversions in a short timespan, thus reducing the possibilities of enhancing the encyclopediatic quality of the article. --Soman (talk) 14:07, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Stop the edit war, and there will be no more need for flags. I have tagged the article, as the 3 of you clearly believe it is biased. I have given all 3 of you warning flags on your pages so you will have had a chance to understand you are not doing as well as you might. I am out. All the best, and I hope the 3 of you will stop your edit war and talk. I hear you saying that you don't consider the repeated reversion of the article to be an edit war. sinneed (talk) 14:11, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Impressed! :) Thanks!

I took a bit and looked over a very small sampling of articles (! there are so very many) you have started, and am simply impressed. Election results templates

Please see Trivia added to single use templates at Noticeboard for India-related topics for the plans to delete the Election result templates. The idea is to clean up templates. This information has been moved from templates into sub-pages, in most cases.

The reason I bring it up is that one of your subpages has the templates. This encourages editors who would like to add more information about their states and constituencies to continue creating templates for election results, by using the red links to follow and create the same. It is inappropriate as per the Template namespace guidelines. Since this page was created long ago when things were different, I guess it has lived on. The templates have been nominated for delete - see Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2008 December 10 for latest nominations and Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2008 December 9 for earlier nominations.

I plan to replace the Templates with sub-page links in temp4. This will still keep the red links, but will now be for sub-pages instead of templates (unless you want to delete or blank the sub-page temp4). You may also see comments with one other admin at my talk page. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 06:02, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

You raised some concerns here about BLP issues in the DYK nomination of NYPD subway sodomy incident. I have been reviewing the article and I can't tell what's wrong—it seems to me that the article presents the incident from a neutral point of view and that all the information about the parties involved is attributed to a robust source. If you have a chance, could you clarify what your concerns about the article are, so that we could address them? —Politizer talk/contribs 21:39, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Could you create an article on that subject? It sounds quite interesting.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 15:15, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Indeed, its on my personal 'to do' list. The book I use as a reference for the DSAP-Linke article has 200+ pages with material on the DSAP and its related parties. Also note Free Union of Poland. --Soman (talk) 15:18, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
It's possible. I have trouble finding any information in Poland on DSAP party. I did find some information about PPS-Lewica, and I'll update the article with it.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 15:26, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
http://www.om.partiapracy.cal.pl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=38&Itemid=32 is the only online polish ref i can find on DSAP-Linke. Leksykon organizacji niemieckich w województwie śląskim w latach 1922-1939 appears to have some detail on the party, but its not online at google books. --Soman (talk) 15:37, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I found some more info. Pl wiki lists a number of German minority pre-war ogranizations in Poland here.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 15:46, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
I stubbed it on pl wiki: [5]. Interestingly (to me, at least), despite the name the party appears to be anti-hitlerite. Its pro-hitlerite opposition was this: [6]/[7]. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 15:54, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Great. Actually, Blachetta-Madajczyk dedicates quite a lot of space to how DSAP navigated itself in an increasingly nationalist political atmosphere. DSAP emerged partly out of the SPD/SPÖ branches in areas that landed within Poland after WWI, at the time leftist ideas were strong amongst German workers in Poland. In fact, socialist unity was hampered by DSAP's perception that PPS was to nationalist. DSAP suffered splits both to left (hardline internationalism, DSAP-Linke, ended up in the KPP) and right (splinter that ended up with the Nazis). The DSAP in the end decided to stand by an internationalist position and quite vocal anti-Nazism, a stand developed due to closeness of the exiled SPD leadership in Upper Silesia after the 1933 Nazi takeover. The non-nationalist stand effectively isolated the DSAP from the German populace at large in Poland, as the war got closer. --Soman (talk) 21:11, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Looking forward to the articles :) What about the Jungdeutsche Partei in Polen? Was it indeed the main pro-hitlerite German minority party in Poland? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:26, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
There was apparently a microcosm of German political parties in the 1920s, with all kinds of tendencies represented. JDP was founded in 1921 as the German National Socialist Association in Poland, inspired by the NS movement in Sudetenlad. it took the name JDP in 1931. It was nominally tied to NSDAP. It gained popularity amongst Germans in Poland with the rise of Nazism in Germany. Blachetta-Madajczyk gives a brief description of JDP, p. 59. I think NSDAP/AO also had branches in Poland pre-WWII. --Soman (talk) 21:50, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Re: DYK for GSLP

Yeah, I was just noticing it too. Personally, I have just been avoiding it because I have a relatively hard-line approach to single-source articles and I would probably be less inclined to pass it than most other reviewers would; as you pointed out, the source is a good one, so the nomination shouldn't just be thrown away on account of that; it deserves to be considered by editors who are pretty impartial, and if I reviewed it more I might bring in too much of my own prejudices, so I've just been waiting and hoping someone else will come along and judge it more fairly. I imagine if reviewer other than me reviews it, they'll probably pass it; I just don't quite feel comfortable passing it myself yet, so I've been avoiding it ;). But since it's the last hook on the page (or at least very close to last; I don't remember exactly), someone should probably look at it soon. If it hasn't been responded to by the end of the day (my time), I'll leave a message at the discussion page; in the meantime, if you notice anyone removing it without consensus, or marking it as for any reason, feel free to put it back and to shoot me a message. —Politizer talk/contribs 20:55, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Merry Christmas!

Well for yesterday then :) I hope you had a great one, imbibing plenty of Christmas cheer and eating many tasty things. I am getting in early this year with my New Year's resolutions. Near the top of the list is getting the Pol Pot article to GA. It's a stinking crime that it is poorly organised, largely unreferenced and filled with ephemeral crap. That mad bastard deserves better coverage and a GA flag might help to keep the casual POV edit warriors at bay. Then of course I'd like to turn my attentions to the KR article, which is in even worse shape, and give it the same treatment. I seem to recall you mentioning you had the Philip Short biography of Pot. I have the Chandler bio and various other texts. Between us we probably have enough background to write an FA easily. Would you be interested in a no-pressure collaboration to enable Saloth Sar to hold his head up among all the vital GA articles on American High Schools? Also I can't think of a saner editor I would rather work with to improve some articles - I really admire your work. "No, leave me alone" is an answer I can cope with if you're sick of the subject or busy elsewhere. Cheers, Paxse (talk) 16:43, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

East Germany

This was my idea for a revised hook: ... that Paul Verner (pictured) fled Germany's nationalists and fought as a volunteer in the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War?

It includes the International Brigades. I was just speculating whether it was necessary to also say he was a communist, I don't think so. It's a hook not an intro. Also, I was asking whether the original hook saying he is East German wasn't a bit weird since he wasn't an East German politician when he was fighting in Spain. So it seems to confuse the history. Fascism

I see you have been editing articles on fascism. Can you help out at Intellectuals and Nazism. I am trying to keep the list of people who contributed to the fascist ideology as a philosophy. Someone else created it but I have been trimming it down and adding their contributions, and trying to find references. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 17:37, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice. I will see what I can do, but I think this is somewhat outside my field of expertise. Some opinions from me; 1) i generally don't like articles having the word 'and' in their title. If the article is about the philosophical roots of Nazism, perhaps it should have a name in line with that. 2) i think the criteria of inclusion seems quite wide. For example Martin Luther has of course in some ways contributed to shaping Nazism in the sense that he shaped German society as a whole, but to state that his anti-semitism directly contributed to the political discourse of Hitler feels a bit far-fetched. --Soman (talk) 19:54, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Flags of political parties of India

Just wanted to let you know that I have recently improved the coverage of "Flags of political parties of India" on various articles of political parties and plan to improve them further for next few days. Also I have created a page on Commons for ready reference. See here. Since you primarily work in this area - just wanted to let you know so that you can make use of these flags comfortably in future. --GPPande 20:18, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

That looks great. However, I think the image 'South Asian Communist Banner.png' should be used for CPI and CPI(M). If you look at the refs on the file page, the CPI flag doesn't have 'CPI' at its mast according to the party constitution. --Soman (talk) 22:10, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I visited the individual websites of the two parties and read the constitution just now. You are correct. I have reverted my edits on both party articles and also on Wikimedia Commons. I have nominated the CPI flag for deletion. The CPI(M) flag seems to be better as it is a .svg image as against the .png South asian Communist banner (as per recommended image formats). --GPPande 12:27, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
The exact design of the hammer & sickles of CPI/CPI(M) flags wary somewhat, but my impression is that the .svg flag has little to hard edges compared to the actual flags in use in India. see for example [8]--Soman (talk) 12:47, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi! Wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR! :-) I just want to ask you. How does a President become a "politician". He isn't a member of a political party, right. And he wasn't involved in an sort of political canvassing or expressing support for an party. He is just the executive head of the state nominated and appointed by the electoral college comprising elected members of state and national assembly. In this context, he was not even elected by the people. Now having said that, it is a regular practice of the Indian President to nominate 12 members to the Rajya Sabha. They include luminaries in different fields as law, cinema, etc. Would they, too, qualify as politicians?-RavichandarMy coffee shop 14:43, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Politician is a person who is involved in politics. A head of state is per definition a politician, regardless of his/her background or whether he/she has a party membership. All members of a national legislature are per definition a politician as well. --Soman (talk) 14:50, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Popular Movement for the Good of Borlänge

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Popular Movement for the Good of Borlänge, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Extremely minor party that never even got a single seat in the municipal council.

While Left-Wing Fascism in India may be a POV page, I don't think it qualifies as "negative unsourced BLP." It seem to address a legitimate subject. Please join the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Left-Wing Fascism in India. Cheers Dlohcierekim 21:10, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Fascism article

I wonder if you could look at Fascism#Political spectrum. The introductory sentence of this section is not supported by the footnotes, and much of the section is devoted to "left-wing fascism", which is not described elsewhere in the article. Image copyright problem with File:Tdpmk.PNG

Thanks for uploading File:Tdpmk.PNG.

Hi Soman

I see you do a great work with everything related to political parties. I'm creating thousands of redirections, mainly from native names, and categorising redirections. Is there anything in particular that you would like me to help you with? --Againme (talk) 14:04, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello User:Soman

I saw your comments in the SUCI page. I am wondering who this IP address user is! He is probably a puppet of Kuntan. I know the party through their activities in Nandigram (see my edits in the Nandigram page), though I am not an activist. I believe that this user has some kind of personal vengance against the party (if he is this Kuntan). I see his edits to be similar to that of those made by Kuntan, trying to defame the party and only targeting them. I cannot access Wikipedia very often, so please keep an eye on that page. --Radhakrishnansk (talk) 10:52, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

I have made a new section called Criticism in the SUCI page. I hope this solves the problem. The hidden user can edit and put what ever he wants there in. I see that the pages of other parties have a similar section. --Radhakrishnansk (talk) 18:06, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

I have removed the edits by this puppet of User:Kuntan as per the advice of senior editors. They have adviced to ignore all puppets of User:Kuntan. I think I will follow their advice and if he pops up again to disrupt the proper functioning of Wikipedia we could complain to the admins who intervened in this case.--Radhakrishnansk (talk) 16:25, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Socialist Party of Peru

Hi Soman, I noticed that you created the Socialist Party of Peru article. I was reviewing some articles on both the English and Spanish Wikipedias, and there appear to be some contradictions. The Javier Diez Canseco page for example states, "Javier Diez Canseco is a Peruvian politician and former member of the Peruvian Congress representing the party Partido Democrático Descentralista (PDD), of which he is a co-founder. He was also a candidate for President of Peru as the head of the Socialist Party of Peru in 2006 elections." This would give the impression that the PDD and Socialist Party of Peru are different. However, on the Spanish Wikipedia, Partido Democratico Descentralista redirects to Partido Socialista del Perú. The latter article states that the party was founded in 2005 and its current leader is Susel Paredes. However, the English article lists its current leader as Javier Diez Canseco and its founding date in 1930. The Partidos políticos en el Perú page apparently distinguishes between an old party (founded 1928) and new party (founded in 2005). I guess you can see where I'm confused. Please let me know if you have any sense as to how to sort this out. BTW, please reply on my talk page instead of here, thanks. Khoikhoi 00:15, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

I created the English article based on a metalist of political parties in Peru, that I believe had been produced by ONPE. But I have also been confused regarding the modern party using the name PS. Probably spanish wikipedia is right on this, and the English articles should be corrected accordingly. Unfortunately, I cannot assist with sorting this out properly at the moment. --Soman (talk) 22:19, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. Do you have a URL for the ONPE list of Peruvian political parties? Khoikhoi 22:28, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
It is this document (although not in the original location), http://www.pueblocontinente.com/partidos1.htm . It has been copy-pasted around the web for a few years now. It is identical to the original version of the spanish wiki article, but to me it seems likely it was copy-pasted into es.wiki. --Soman (talk) 22:43, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

As you can you can see from my contributions, I think I cleared the matter up. From what I can tell, the most well-known party in Peru called the Socialist Party is Javier Diez Canseco's (originally called Partido Democrático Descentralista). The other party participated in the 1962, 1980, and 1990 general elections ([10]). However, as pueblocontinente.com notes, as of 2000, it only appears to be active in the Talara and Piura areas. The Peruvian Communist Party was originally called the Peruvian Socialist Party when it was founded in 1928, but it changed the name to its current one in 1930. I guess this is where the confusion was. The only two questions remaining is which party (the 1930 or 2005 one?) participates in the Foro de São Paulo and which party is the one mentioned in the pueblos jóvenes article. Khoikhoi 04:42, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

I beleive you are right. Regarding FSP, my gut feeling is that it would be the 2005 party, considering its roots in PUM. Regarding Pueblos jóvenes, i think it should link to neither party. The author has probably written it to mean 'APRA, the socialist party of Peru' rather than talking of two separate parties. --Soman (talk) 10:32, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Their website no longer appears to be up, but back in 2001 they only listed the "Partido Comunista del Peru – Patria Roja." In 2003 it lists "Partido Comunista Peruano" and "Movimiento Revolucionario Tupac Amaru." As for Pueblos jóvenes, the original author of the article stated "APRA, the Partido Socialista del Perú", but this was in February 2004, before the current party was created.
One last thing: Do you think Socialist Party (Peru, 2005) should be moved to Socialist Party (Peru)? Khoikhoi 18:57, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for the confusion, [11] states that it is the 1930 party that had been a FSP invite. That source is from 2004, listings PUM as transforming into PDD. I think that we could disambiguate between Socialist Party of Peru (founded in 1930) and Socialist Party (Peru) (founded in 2005). --Soman (talk) 19:09, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
According to the source you cited (the one from 2004), Javier Diez Canseco's Democratic Decentralist Party (Partido Descentralista Democrático) was founded in 2002, not 2005. Internet Archive also confirms this. Perhaps the party changed its name to the Socialist Party in 2005, or do you think that the Partido Socialista is a separate party entirely? Khoikhoi 20:24, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Hm... es.wiki says that "fue creado en un primer momento como Partido Democrático Descentralista. Su fundación como el PS tuvo lugar a finales del 2005", the party was first founded as PDD, and then refounded as PS in 2005. --Soman (talk) 21:15, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Note that the es.wiki article is obviously written by a sympathizer of the party. ONPE states that PS was registered in September 2005, and was de-registed in 2007. --Soman (talk) 21:25, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
By de-registered, do you mean that they are not longer a political party? I think I found their official website, or at least their blog: partidosocialistadelperu.blogspot.com. Note what the "¿Quiénes somos?" section says:
Khoikhoi 22:25, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
By de-registered it means it is no longer recognized by OPNE. It is still a political party though, but not recognized by Peruvian state authorities. --Soman (talk) 22:34, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Independent Socialist Party (Greece) notability concerns

A tag has been placed on Independent Socialist Party (Greece) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Capitalismojo (talk) 12:55, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Brar

Dear Soman, I am not convinced by your edit summary as it would suggest to me some manner of bias. "Who cares" is scarcely a valid reasons -- if it were I am sure the entire article could be deleted as most people care nothing for what Brar or indeed almost all figures of the maoist left think. Indeed -- one could make the same point re most articles on wikipedia. As for "tiny" I am sure you agree that the CPGB-ML is also tiny. I am reverting your reversion as I do not think it good faith. Bigdaddy1981 (talk) 17:08, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

I have noticed your reversion (and the fact that it appears to be a general feature of your editing). No-one cares is not a valid reason for vandalising an article. Please provide a valid reason. Bigdaddy1981 (talk) 23:28, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
1) Contents disputes are not vandalism. Do note the passage "If you do not want your writing to be edited, used, and redistributed at will, then do not submit it here." under the save button. 2) 'Criticism'/'Controversy' chapters are generally a bad idea, they usually fill little other role than conveying the private opinions of a wikipedia (even though cited). 3) If 'criticism' is to be mentioned, then it should be notable. Its not really notable that a miniscule Trotskyist group dislikes Brar, nor is it particularily interesting. Would it be reasonable to include passages from Brar's works as a 'criticism' section of articles on Trotskyist writers? Overall, the Brar article ought to be trimmed. 4) the ICFI quote isn't really a criticism, its just a quote of Brar. 5) The wordings in the preceding 'Ideology' section are not exactly pro-Brar, so there's not really a POV issue at stake. --Soman (talk) 23:20, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
Content disputes are not handled by deleting the content and then ignoring any queries -- as you did until now. Are Trot critiques of Brar notable -- Id say yes as are "anti-revisionist" critiques of Trots. The "minuscule" barb is irrelevant given that we are dealing with the leader of a minuscule group himself. I think most estimates of CPGB-ML membership are around two dozen max and many of them Brar's own family. In future I would suggest raising content disputes on articles' talk pages to try to maintain at least a minimum of civility. Bigdaddy1981 (talk) 19:24, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

re: RDH

Hi. I'm shifting the discussion here instead, since our correspondence went somewhat beyond the query at the RDH page. In brief,

  • Relativism is a faulty logic. You may well think that Muslims are treated better in Israel than Jews in the Arab world. I would perhaps disagree, at least if we are talking of the entire Arab world as a homogenous bloc. But in any case it doesn't reply the question whether there is Islamophobia or not in Israel. Tolerance/intolerance is not a zero-sum game, whether Jews are treated unfairly in other countries says nothing about the situation inside Israeli society.
  • You chose a very convenient time-span regarding the number of (active) mosques in Israel. By starting to count from the early 1950s, you exclude the period of the 'war of Independence'/Nakba, when many local mosques were abandoned, destroyed or taken over for other uses. Since 1950s the Muslim population of Israel has been in steady growth in Israel (in absolute terms at least), it is not strange that the number of mosques would correlate with that to so degree.
  • Simultaneously, the Jewish population has shrunk inside the Arab world since 1947. Persecution of the Jewish community and sectarian violence has been important factors, but the Zionist organized appeal to emigrate (and organized mass emigrations, such as from Yemen and Iraq) has played a decisive role. Effectively, the Zionist project has elimated (or at least, moved) millenarian vibrant Jewish communities in many parts of the world.
  • I contest the notion that "Israel is remarkably pluralistic", at least if "pluralistic" is supposed to imply some sort of equality. Try showing up at Ben-Gurion Airport with a Western passport with an Arabic name, and you'll see differential treatment immediately. Count the percentage of Muslim cabinet ministers since 1947, and compare with the demographic percentage of Muslims amongst Israeli citizens. Etc, etc. Is this Islamophobia? It is debatable if we can separate Islamophobia from a general anti-Arab hostility, the identity markers Muslim/Arab are closely intertwined in this case. But the notion that Israel should be a Jewish state (and by similar logic, that Israeli society equals Jewish society), as opposed to the notion that Israel should be a state of all its citizens (in which all religions and communities would have equal claims to form part of the national identity), has a dominant position in Israeli politics.

I never denied that 70 years of almost continuous hostility and attempted Policide have left a legacy of suspicion and mistrust. However, I really fail to see according to what rational objective criteria Israel is allegedly virulently "Islamophobic" -- and it's not "relativism" to make relevant regional comparisons, or to point out the flagrant hypocrisy of the Arabs who effectively pushed out all meaningful Jewish communities (other than a pitiful remnant of a few old people) from every single Arab country except Morocco (in incidents such as the 1967 Libyan pogrom), and then endlessly whine and moan about alleged Israeli "racism" and "Islamophobia"! If the Arabs had really wanted to take the air out of the tires of Zionism in the 1940's and 1950's, then they should have made it absolutely clear that Jews born in Arab countries were native Arabs who were warmly welcomed in their own native lands. Instead, Arabs motivated by qawmiyyah nationalism made it crystal clear at that time that they indiscriminately blamed all Jews for Zionism, and refused to regard Jews as being "real" Arabs. It's perfectly true that there were both "pull" and "push" factors in the Jewish exodus from Arab lands), but it's also true that the overall main reason why most Jews left Arab countries was because they didn't have any confidence that they would be secure from mob attacks and arbitrary oppressive government action -- and the reason for this was that the majority of Arabs in those countries didn't consider Jews to be "real" fellow citizens of Arab states.
The Arabs in Israel have problems, sometimes severe ones, but ever since the fighting ended and the armistice lines were formalized in 1949-1950, they also have had a secure status as citizens of Israel -- while the majority of Jews in every Arab country other than Morocco were denied secure citizenship status in their own countries. And meanwhile, I don't see that "Islamophobia" really usefully explains anything much... AnonMoos (talk) 22:41, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
