Who'd a thunk it?

Giants/Vikes tonight. Logged in just to mention, humbly, that I never for a second thought that this game would be meaningful for the midwestern team and not the east coasters. Happy new year to you TC! Keeper | 76 01:44, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Ugh, happy to forget that it happened. Congrats my Keeping friend StarM 03:42, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

issues with your observations

Dear Star Mississippi,

Thank you for comments however I would like to point out that's its not advertising or flaming I would like you to re look at the website thegibbriverroad.com and let me know that a website with over 50+ interacting pages..... all of these pages don't sell anything except 4 pages, the rest are a travel and information guide. granted back in January 2015( i just threw the website together casually) back then till now is looks completely different in Jan 2016, but would like you to review your decision based on what the content is today 2016.

I know Calistimon brought up the issue in the past and I rectified it esp for red dog, but lets be serious here these are travel and general information guides, that I do all over Australia, I have had a good working relationship with Wikipedia for over 6 years and donate also.

I just find that if you re look at what I am trying to design these are information and knowledge based websites, not fully fledged selling websites.

Anthony

Hi Anthony, thanks for your note. I'm not sure you understand the role that external links and references are supposed to play on Wikipedia. Wikipedia isn't meant to provide travel guides. There are other Wikis that fill this space well and wehre I think your site would be perfect. Maybe wiki travel? StarM 23:00, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Star Mississippi. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Star Mississippi.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the quick response on the AFD. In case it wasn't clear, I'm in no way disagreeing with your decision to take this to AFD rather than leave it at speedy.Meters (talk) 20:15, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

You're welcome. I think we're both similarly confused about how this should be handled. StarM

Question: Why?

You undid a change I made to the Staten Island Children's Museum page. I did this at a Wikipedia NYC Hackathon at the suggestion of an experienced Wikipedian in attendance; it was my second edit to a Wikipedia change. Both are extremely minor, as I am new and don't want to do anything drastic yet. It seemed clear enough to both of us that the article was no longer a stub, although it not quite complete as it could be. (I was hoping to update it in the future.)

As I said, this was my first day editing Wikipedia. I thought I was helping out with some low-hanging fruit, but apparently even such a simple edit is not welcome.

Together with a very condescending message I received on the Wikipedia NYC Meetup page, my early experience has not been good.

Don't worry about educating my. I am so discouraged that I may never be back.

Karen5Lund (talk) 17:55, 31 July 2017 (UTC)Karen5Lund

(talk page watcher) Karen5Lund, the only edit you have ever made to Staten Island Children's Museum was to remove two (obviously correct) categories, which Star Mississippi correctly restored. Are you sure there hasn't been some misunderstanding here? ‑ Iridescent 18:10, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
@Karen5Lund: I admit I"m confused, although I intended no offense. As Iridescent noted more quickly than I could respond, the Staten Island Children's Museum is still considered a stub per the guidelines of the museums and (I believe, though I'm not familiar with their guidelines intimately), the NYC projects. I thought you removed them as an accident as you didn't explain your edit with an edit summary, something we use to communicate while we make changes. Your edits to Girl Scout Museum were great, so I hope you do choose to come back. I'm not sure what happened with the NYC Meetup page, but pinging @Pharos: in case there's something he's able to address. If you come back, please feel free to reach out. Also visit WP:Museums, a project that focuses on museums on Wikipedia. StarM 02:40, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

Thanks @In ictu oculi:. Alas, I don't own a hard copy of the book to take a photo. StarM 01:57, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant that Amazon covers can be used. No need to take a photo :) In ictu oculi (talk) 08:05, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
Oh sorry, I'm clearly not too familiar with process. I'll look into it. THanks StarM 03:38, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

Go twins!

Go Twins!

I had to find my log in creds just to post to the only Yankee fan I know.

Go Twins! (Currently 3-0 in the first inning of the 10/3 WC game). Things could be terrible for one of us by the time you read this. Hope you are well! Keeper | 76 00:38, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

HI! Who expected this earlier this season? Certainly not I. This season has been a pleasant surprise. Hope you're well! StarM 03:24, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
GGGGAAAAAWWWWD I hate the yankees. Twins are 0-10 against them in the postseason. Hate hate hate. That said, the twins were def on the pleasant surprise side of things. Once the sting wears off, I'll see that for what it is. But for tonight....damn yankees!!!! Keeper | 76 04:08, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
I was seriously worried about "due" for that game, especially with the way it started. Twins are way more than due vs. NYY in post season. StarM 03:19, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

I have unreviewed a page you curated

Hi, I'm Boleyn. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Danube Park, and have un-reviewed it again. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you.

Hi, you deleted this page on 20 August. Could you please check and let me know who created the page on that day? This bio is being created repeatedly and I am trying to identify the usernames behind the bio. Thank you. --Saqib (talk) 18:00, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi, apologies for the delay @Saqib:, I was traveling for the holidays. It was User:Shashank0022 and I was 2nd deleting admin after Jo-Jo Eumerus closed this AFD. StarM 03:14, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

museums

Thank you for quality articles such as Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, Sandy Ground Historical Museum and Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District, for "how does this not exist?", for help from 2007, and admin services, - repeating (28 March 2009): you are an awesome Wikipedian!

Thank you @Gerda Arendt:. Ten years? WOW. Has been fun even though I'm not around as much as I used to be. Belated THANK YOU StarM 01:48, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
You are welcome! 10 years ago, I wasn't even around, but my great predecessors in passing the award, three at the time. Interesting to meet some of the awarded such as you! (Many are long gone.) I was late, I try to do it the anniversary day, but first comes a Featured aticle writer, then a DYK author whose article I reviewed, then someone from the new day, and somedays I just don't get to it. - Every morning I make my little exercise of thanks, and it's a good start in the day, even if taking some time. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:17, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
