Ran into this block as I was clearing the "autoconfirmed users with the confirmed flag" report. Since you cleared the OTRS, I figured you might want to consult about it. Courcelles 01:33, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Possible sock

Stifle, would you mind checking the contributions of MindyHall (talk · contribs)? Seems another sock of ElPilotoDi (talk · contribs) to me. — Legolas (talk2me) 05:45, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Could possibly be. Have you tagged any of the non-free images for review? Stifle (talk) 14:33, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Problem is the user is uploading on existing images with non-free, non-replaceable versions. I don't know how to submit for review then. — Legolas (talk2me) 06:52, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Just revert them. Stifle (talk) 08:14, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Audley Harrison complaint

Hi, Thanks for this note on my talk page. Can you provide an update on the status of this complaint?--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 00:22, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

The complaint currently sits with the WMF's legal team. I do not have any update on it. Stifle (talk) 08:09, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
How long does it usually take for the legal team to make a determination on a complaint of this nature?--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 16:41, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
I don't know, sorry. You can contact them at legal-en@wikimedia.org. Stifle (talk) 19:17, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Projapoti

There is a You Tube clip showing the Projapoti being bowled: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMyAkM5M-J4 here it is referred to by Ian Pont, one of the creators, as Projapoti "Butterfly". It seems that Projapoti means "Butterfly" in English, as Doosra means 'the other one'. The name of Projapoti was given I have read to reflect the Bangladesh heritage of the delivery and the fact it was created for the Bengali speaking fast bowlers who call it the Projapoti. In the same way Cul-de-Sac is used in language in English, you would not say "bottom of the bag" (literal translation) when referring to a road that has no way out. Projapoti therefore is a genuine title for this creation, which has been given a Butterfly 'handle' so the English media can understand what it is meant to look like in flight. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ecbsux (talkcontribs) 08:29, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Can I please ask why you're telling me this? Stifle (talk) 09:27, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
Ah, found it. Projapoti was deleted after a consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Projapoti. I did not decide to delete it; the community did. You can open a deletion review as previously advised, but only if you can establish that deletion process was not followed or you have new information which wasn't previously available. 898FM deleted 2009

Stifle, I'd like to create an 898FM page but I am not sure why the old one was deleted, ref: 23:24, 10 January 2009 Stifle deleted "898 FM" ‎ (A7: No indication that the article may meet guidelines for inclusion). I don't remember seeing the page so I don't know what was on it. Otari (talk) 07:18, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

I'll need the exact old article title in order to check anything further for you, spaces/capitalization being important. Stifle (talk) 16:25, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Exact title was "898 FM" (898 space FM). That's all I can find. Otari (talk) 08:45, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

The article was a short description of a NZ radio station (later known as The Breeze). It was deleted because it didn't explain how it was notable or important. Stifle (talk) 14:42, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Ok, so if I created a new, more comprehensive article about it, and mentioned why the station was notable, would that be sufficient for it not to be deleted? Otari (talk) 11:38, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

It would probably help, but you should also include citations from reliable sources so that the article is verifiable. Stifle (talk) 15:15, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the info and suggestions, I'll do some reading on this, but it would be difficult to verify the article as the station no longer exists and the only information about it is what is known by people who used to work there, most of who are less than interested (apart from me) in keeping the memory alive. User:Nnemo's edit in Wikipedia

Hello, Stifle

We have a problem with one User:Nnemo. He is going around Wikipedia and tampering with URLs, changing them from {{URL|http://www.example.com}} to {{URL|http://example.com}}.

I think he is doing it intentionally to irritate us because you see, previously, he used to convert {{URL|http://www.example.com}} into {{URL|http://www.example.com|www.example.com}}. Multiple Wikipedia users and I told him (see his talk page) to stop and that we and most other users do not want to see the strange www part. And now, he is removing the www from the underlying URL too. Most websites have no trouble without www, but some rare ones do, so at best this is an ineffective edit and at worst a disruptive edit.

Please tell him to stop. Work you verbal magic, you know. You have a way with words. Watch out though: He knows how to play dumb and he has some other verbal tricks too. Fleet Command (talk) 06:57, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

(a) What's the difference? (b) did you see my edit notice, I don't get involved in third party disputes. Stifle (talk) 19:40, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
(a) Read the last sentence of my second paragraph and you find out. (b) Eh? I take it that you mean you are not interested to involve yourself in this one. But I have seen your editing habits. You constantly enter disputes, often without being asked. I thought that is an administrator's duty after all. Piece.Fleet Command (talk) 05:58, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
I read your first paragraph which says "...changing them from {{URL|http://www.example.com}} to {{URL|http://www.example.com}}." Those two are the exact same. From the second paragraph it appears you're referring to the www prefix, that's fine.
I have cut down my Wikipedia activities a lot; I am not in the habit of injecting myself into other users' disputes by request because I find it often results in a negative outcome for me. I'd much rather you tried WP:ANI but if you really want me to, I'll have a look. Stifle (talk) 19:07, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Wow! My autofix gadget backfired! Correcting it now... (Actually, wrecking it.) Anyway, thanks, but I took your first "No" for solid and sent the case to WP:MEDCAB. Fleet Command (talk) 05:37, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Photos from Dublin

Hi Stifle, I am preparing an article about the Irish architect J. J. McCarthy and as you have offered to take photographs in Dublin I wonder if you could photograph following churches:

  • St. Mary of the Angels Capuchin Church in Church Street (unfree shots at Flickr: [1], [2]) — so far nobody has contributed a photograph of it to Wikimedia Commons, nor to Geograph, nor under a free license at Flickr or Panoramio. If possible, I would also like to have an inside photograph (along the nave, looking east).
  • Church of St. Paul of the Cross, Harold's Cross — we currently have three photographs (commons:Category:Church of St. Paul of the Cross, Harold's Cross) but none of them is of good quality and in particular we do not have inside views. This church is currently endangered as the site has been sold off by the Passionists to an investor. While the church itself is under protection it is still possible that changes to the bad occur and the attached convent building is not unprotected such that it will be possibly demolished.

There is a deal: If you find the opportunity to take some photographs and upload them, I will happily write an article of your choice of medieval Ireland (whatever can be done with my literature at hand which is quite extensive). --AFBorchert (talk) 21:23, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

P.S.: In case it should be raining, and you've time to spend in Dublin libraries: There is another wish for the same project: Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request#Duffy's Irish Catholic Magazine. --AFBorchert (talk) 21:27, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Oops. I should have updated that when I moved to London. Sorry )-: Stifle (talk) 16:18, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi Stifle, you left Ireland? As there aren't many active Dubliners here, I guess I will have to wait until Fall 2012 then when I plan my next trip to Ireland. Best wishes, AFBorchert (talk) 16:35, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Deletion of Chelsio Communications company page

Hi,

This is Debasish Roy, a reader of WIKIPEDIA. I want to ask you about the deletion of Chelsio Communications company page. Actually I got a call for an interview of this company. So I want to see the details of that company. But here you deleted the page. Is there any complications for this deletion.

Thanks and Regards,

Debasish Roy Mobile Number: [redacted] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.78.237.72 (talk) 07:41, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

I've removed your phone number; it's generally a bad idea to put personal details on Wikipedia as it is widely visible.
I deleted Chelsio Communications over a year ago because it was a copyright violation and because it did not appear to be a notable company. Stifle (talk) 10:11, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Andorra at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics

Entered the article for completeness: Andorra at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics contains the redlink to 2011 in the corresponding standard infobox. They might compete again in 2013.

A total of 8 IAAF member federations did not compete: Andorra, Georgia, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Montserrat, Jordan, PR of Korea, and Norfolk Island.

If there is concern about publishing this (negative) information, I won#t create the respective pages.

Hi there, perhaps you can advise... The above image is in Commons but during a review on Albert Ball, where it's used because he helped design the aeroplane, the Crown Copyright / Public Domain claim was questioned because there's no credit on the original image. I daresay this is a fair observation. However given the fact that only one example of this aircraft was built, back in 1917, I was considering that it might be a candidate for uploading on WP with a FUR. If so, can the Commons copy just be speedily deleted by an admin or does it have to go through a delete request process? Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 13:49, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

It would have to go through a deletion request. Stifle (talk) 14:56, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Florence LaRue.jpeg

Thanks for uploading File:Florence LaRue.jpeg, which you've sourced to http://thefifthdimension.org/florence.html. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:08, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Your URL has been deleted and blocked on Wikipedia.". (beside my point, but if you were the person leaving this comment under the name of "wiki", I find it ironic that your page on here has an image "Don't abbreviate as Wiki", and the caption of "Wikipe-tan says: this is Wikipedia.")

This comment received a reply from the owner of Ozbargain, Scott, saying the following: "Okay. I see OzBargain gets deleted on Wikipedia — while communities and websites of similar size continue to have wikipedia pages dedicated to them.

By the way, why do you think that I am using wikipedia for “spamming and self-promotion”? The page is not created by OzBargain, nor have anyone I personally know have touched it. The “moderators” at Wikipedia might need to get their facts right :)"

Scotty said in the blog post "Thanks to “Eno1″ on Wikipedia for creating the page!". Obviously, it was no one from OzBargain that he was aware of. You might like to know that I have nothing to do with the management of Ozbargain too, I am just one happy user of the site.

So basically, please re-add this page.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.177.199.87 (talk) 12:28, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

OzBargain was deleted under criterion 7 (under Articles) of our criteria for speedy deletion because it appeared to be an article about a company which didn't indicate why it was important or significant. Please see WP:CORP for details of what might show notability. If you think that these criteria are met, please explain which one and provide citations from reliable sources to back up your claim, and I will consider undeleting it.
You may alternatively file a deletion review request. Stifle (talk) 17:00, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Reviewing deleted Article

This article about Celebrity Cricket League was deleted by you as the result of deletion discussion process, But it got more importance now because of new session and more public interest. And few new teams also joined, making it serious cricket(even they got logos and sponsors, it is no more a game in the front yard) with various celebrities of Indian states/language. It will be great if you can review the deletion process. Have a look at this also[3] -- Rahulpattuvam talk 06:57, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

You need to file a request at WP:DRV for this, quoting as many sources as you can. Stifle (talk) 19:18, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

St. David School (Richmond, California) an article that you voted on during a previous deletion debate that led to a no consensus decision nearly six years ago has been relisted for deletion. It should be noted that there have been a considerable amount of edits to the article since then.
