Thanks for the belated holiday greetings. Yes, I have had a happy holiday, and anxiously wait for the new year.

As far as your portal, I think that it looks very good and has some great information. I should make one suggestion, you should make links to the categories listed under the categories section. To do that, format each as a link, but before the work category, you should put a colon i.e. [[:Category:Your category name]] Other than that, I think you have done an awesome job putting that together. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 14:07, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow the portal looks great!!! The only challenge is to keep updating it atleast fortnightly so that it doesnt go stale... I will also try to contribute... Great job! — Lost(talk) 11:39, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I will try to pitch in whenever possible. I am putting it up on the new Indian article noticeboard — Lost(talk) 11:44, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Great job. Congratulations. -- P.K.Niyogi 12:31, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portal:Indian Independence Movement[edit]

Hi Sushant, it looks very nice. I have announced the portals on the Indian notice board. — Lost(talk) 07:31, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe, well you could call that wikiholism:) Since both topics are close to me, I will definitely be contributing to them — Lost(talk) 07:38, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The new portal looks nice. I think that you are well on your way to creating featured content on Wikipedia. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 14:48, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sushant, I have seen that you have created Portal:Indian Independence Movement and related subpages. But you are creating subpages of Portal:Indian Independence Movement, India. Please do not make such mistakes. Move all the supages to the parent portal, i.e. Indian Independence Movement. Shyam (T/C) 23:46, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I think we need to fix the portal name as well. It should be Portal:Indian independence movement according to naming conventions. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Shyam Bihari (talkcontribs) 06:11, 31 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Check out the edits made to the portal. I think will be in action in this portal.Amartyabag (Talk) 10:06, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Delhi FAC comments[edit]

Could you please see Blacksun's comments in the FAC? I guess we need some die hard Delhiite to take care of the culture section. Please help. I am also requesting some others. You can communicate with your known people as well. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:47, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Umm...we cannot add many photographs. May be a collage of some well-known monuments. "Blueification" of red link and classification (to maintain flow) is of utmost importance, definitely. All will be blue (or removed) by Monday. But the point Blacksun and Saravask is concerned about is the "Culture" section is pretty fact-oriented, like Demographics and Economy. While there must be facts (with source), they are also drawing the attention that it fails to portray the exact vibrant picture of Delhi. Mumbai and Kolkata are supposed to have done that in a better way. As one originally from Delhi, do you have any idea if we have missed some cultural snippet or interesting trivia there in the article? May be some more stuffs on the predominantly Muslim culture of the Old City? Whats the condition of the theatres and literature? I gues Delhi does not have any specific attire also. My problem is I had been to Delhi for very little time, and does not have any idea about the "vibrancy". Parataha of the alleys of Jama Masjid or the dingy alleyways of Old City are what may add some soul, I guess. Any idea?--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:50, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Uh oh... the change you made will not be welcome by most of the reviewers. We should not have subsections in culture, unless absolutely needed. Rather a "daughter article" can be created named Delhi culture where every individual aspect can be described at length. However, the article Delhi should have unsubsectioned section on "Culture" in a summary form.
This is a very tough job. I've been through this process in the past. I could have tried the same if I had a feeling, an understanding of the Delhi culture. See the culture sections of Mumbai, Kolkata, West Bengal and even Darjeeling. Almost all culture sections have something that is uniquely Mumbai-like, uniqueli Calcutta-like, or Bengal-specific etc. Dont we have something like this for Delhi? Very Delhi-like? Uniquely smelling of Delhi? Can you add something? You can also see the Kolkata FAC. I hope User:Nichalp would come soon in the FAC. He may find a way out. Regards. --Dwaipayan (talk) 06:13, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am afraid there may be concerns about the copyright status of the collage you just added :( --Dwaipayan (talk) 06:18, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use problem with Image:Delhi 12345.jpg[edit]

I notice you uploaded the image Image:Delhi 12345.jpg with the {{logo}} fair use image tag. However, it appears that this tag is totally unrelated to the content of the image, and as a result it may qualify for speedy deletion. Image:Delhi 12345.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you can find a valid tag that expresses why Image:Delhi 12345.jpg can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the {{logo}} tag that you have placed on it with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can reupload it but please ensure you place the correct tag on it. However, you must not remove the speedy deletion notice. Unspecified source for Image:Delhi 12345.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Delhi 12345.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then you need to specify who owns the copyright, please. If you got it from a website, then a link to the website where it was taken from with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:19, 14 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. JonHarder talk 23:19, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 1 - January 2007[edit]

Project News
  • Project tagging:After a brief edit war over the addition of {{WP India}} to ancient archaeological sites now located in Pakistan, a "pre" parameter was introduced to remove the ROI flag from the template for pre-1947 articles, following discussion. After another large discussion on ANI alleging that the automated tagging by Ganeshbot and LostBot was "nationalistic", Ganeshbot was briefly blocked. Currently, the bots are again in action.
  • Swastika on Hinduism templates:Recently, an extremely large and at times emotional debate broke out regarding the use of the swastika on Hinduism templates, given its association with Nazism. As a result, {{Hindu Links}} now contains an educational message about the use of the swastika, as discussion on a more permanent resolution continues.

Hey Sushant, all the best for the FAC... Also announce it at the Indian states wikiproject. I will try to pitch in wherever possible, but I am really busy these days so dont expect much from me. But people like Nichalp, Dwaipayanc, Rama's Arrow are experienced FA writers. Take their help. — Lost(talk) 10:16, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I've just started working on Indian independence movement. It's not in a good state. I started with heavy copyedits and brought the size from 70 to 62 kb, that too going through less than half of the article. If you have time, try to provide as many inline citations as possible. See the section "Regional movements prior to 1857" which I tried to provide with citations. Given some thorough copyedits and citations, the article can be brought to excellent status, even FA! Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary[edit]

Does this look better? =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:42, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A user is allowed to oppose an article on FAC if it does not follow the WP:WIAFA criteria. FAC is meant to be a serious forum, and ideally only complete articles are supposed to be there. Experience on FAC allows many editors to preempt common objections and speed the promotion. We need more and more editors to work towards pushing their favourite India-related articles towards featured status. Preferably they should also nominate their city and state towards FA too. PS that template has been removed. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:13, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aamir Khan[edit]

That trivia section should go as wikipedia is not a collection of indiscriminate information. What cannot be sourced should be removed, and what can be cited should be gelled in with the text. You can remove those sentences with the edit summary: "removed unsourced claims". Post a message on the talk page on the removal. That's not considered to be vandalism. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:16, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

Hello Sushant. Looked at the various Himachal Pradesh related articles you have been creating lately. Great work. IMO after creating so many useful articles, you should try to get Himachal Pradesh in the FAC. With so many articles, it would be easy to improve Himachal Pradesh. You can utilise materials from those articles easily and incorporate there. Hope to see Himachal Pradesh in the FAC soon. Have a look at the Indian state articles that are featured. You will know what is needed. We'll be happy to offer any sort of help if needed. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:25, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I checked your archived article on Himachal Pradesh here. One thing that comes into my mind is that the draft is severely lacking in inline citations. At present, FACs have become pretty rigorous. You have to provide far more inline citations, and be ready that you will be able to provide citations for any fact, in case someone questions in FAC. One more suggestion would be to run it in the Peer review before going for FAC. It may turn out to be helpful. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:35, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, do not worry :) It is not easy that someone else will take it for FAC!! You have put hard work, and you are the one who will lead it. But that does not mean no one can see it or try to improve it. That does not depend on whether I disclose it! It's open out there, under GFDL license. Hehe! Oh just kidding. Best of luck. Hope it will pass FAC easily. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:53, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:History of Himachal Pradesh[edit]

Hi Sushant, dont worry about this one. The material and structure has been picked up from the source mentioned but the matter has been changed. So it is not a copyright violation. Hi Sushant, can you let me know which sections are copied verbatim. Those sections may need to be completely removed from the article. — Lost(talk) 08:49, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Who is Essjay"[edit]

That's what you asked on Jimbo's talk page. I'll be helpful and answer. Oy, where have you been? :) Essjay used to be one of Wikipedia's most outstanding contributors: an administrator, checkuser, bureaucrat and arbitrator. Then a magazine found out that he lied to them, so Essjay resigned and left. You can read about it here. YechielMan 20:11, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'll try to explain again. Last year, a magazine called the New Yorker wrote an article about Wikipedia. They interviewed Jimbo, of course, and they also interviewed Essjay because they wanted to hear from an administrator. At the time, Essjay had on his userpage that he was a professor of theology with postgraduate degrees. Essjay talked on the phone, so the reporter had no way of knowing that Essjay was basically a young (24 years old) professional who just left college. A few months later, Essjay changed his userpage, and someone asked him, "Wait...I thought you were a professor." And he said, "Really I'm not, but I want to protect myself by hiding my identity." Word got out, and the New Yorker issued a correction. Jimbo wasn't worried because he thought Essjay was just creating a "pseudonym", a false identity, but not trying to fool anyone.
Then someone found that Essjay used his false credentials to win an argument. People were talking about one of the religion articles, and Essjay said to someone, "I'm right because I'm a religion professor, so I know more than you." So Essjay's false identity wasn't a white lie - it was a tool to exert control over other people. And that goes against Wikipedia's most fundamental principles.
So why is everyone beating up on poor little Essjay? It's because he was so exalted to start with. For example: on your userpage you say you come from India. I have no reason to doubt you. But suppose I receive a reliable report that really you're from Pakistan or Bangladesh, and you were lying on your userpage. Should I care? No. Your lying may not be so wonderful, but it has not caused harm.
In contrast, Essjay's lie did cause harm. It harmed the discussion which he was trying to control. It also harmed the reputation of Wikipedia because one of its best and brightest was shown to be a fraud. That's why everyone is so upset. That's why major news outlets in the world have covered the story. And that's why Wikipedia has an encyclopedia article about the Essjay controversy. YechielMan 06:05, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, no! That's not what I meant at all. I meant there are different levels of friendship. I am the best friends with my family. Then I am friends with folks in school. Then I am friends with folks I used to spend time with in camp. But these are all people I've met. I can be friends with you here on Wikipedia, but it will never be as much as real life. That's all I was saying. With that in mind, yes, I will be your friend, and I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. YechielMan 07:26, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 2 - March 2007[edit]

Project News
  • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis ([1]). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( [2]), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Wikipedia) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
  • Wikipedia Weekly 15: Wikipedia Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Wikipedia happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Wikipedia in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.

The translation department of the India WikiProject aims to utilize high-quality non-English material related to India for the goals of the project. This includes both translating articles from and to other-language Wikipedias as well as assisting contributors with non-English sources. The department aims to provide services in transliteration, formulating scripts for various languages, as well as translating articles from one language to another and validating sources in other languages to that of the encyclopedia article. If you are looking for a friendly translator here is your go-to point. Currently, we are still seeking representation for Kashmiri, Nepali, Oriya, Sindhi and Tulu, as well as reinforcements in all other languages.

Julie Christie filmography[edit]

My point was that the filmography list was not enough to merit a stand-alone article, and that it should be a part of the main Julie Christie article, if for no other reason than consistency with other actors' articles. However, you may make a case that the filmography should be separate because of its length or that it would make the main article too long. I don't have that strong a feeling about it one way or another, so proceed as you see fit. Realkyhick 06:17, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edits[edit]

Hello sir, You are 54th on the Overall Top Editors, and 45th on the List of Admins. May I also know where I stand. I know that I won't be anywhere in the list but then also I would wish to know my rank. Sushant gupta 09:25, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sushant. In fact, number of edits are not important but the quality of edits. Small is Beautiful is not only the name of a famous book, but it is true - one goes up step by step. This page lists editors based on the number of edits, and if one continues here for few months doing some edits regularly, one will find a place there - though finding a place is not important but the overall quality of edits and the dedication to build a true encyclopedia. Sometimes, 1000 words may be written with a single edit while sometimes few words may create many edits. Please see two of my own examples: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sri_Padmanabhaswamy_temple&oldid=20986744 as it was originally done by me gave me one edit while yesterday this edit gave me about a dozen edits. As such, please do not worry about edits - you will get many over a period of time. In case, you want your current number of edits you may refer to this tool: kate's tool. Sometimes, the tool does not work! Right now you have 1908 edits and they are really fine. Cheers. --Bhadani (talk) 13:47, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello sir, firstly I really appreciate your awareness regarding MediaWiki. Secondaly, there I gone through the term number of unique pages. Now what does that mean? I was having more 500 unique pages. Does that mean the number of special pages. Sushant gupta 15:42, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Unique pages indicate the number of distinct pages which were edited by you - I will explain it by an example. Suppose I make 10 different edits to Himachal Pradesh, 5 edits to Bihar, 6 edits to your talk page, then my total edits will be 21 and unique pages edited will be three, namely, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, and User talk:Sushant gupta. In a sense, unique pages edited indicate one's interest in more or less number of pages in which one may be interested. Some editors like to do edits to many different pages while some editors concentrate on few pages. Sometimes, editors just click random pages and do edits like me. For example, now you are concentrating on upgrading HP page to FA status - so your edits to this page will be more till the page becomes a FA. --Bhadani (talk) 16:02, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You will find that your number of edits shall be going up with each edit you do as reflected in above link :) - though the link sometimes remain down. --Bhadani (talk) 16:02, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for your service Sushant gupta 16:08, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are most welcome. Please feel free to message me. Best. Thanks. --Bhadani (talk) 16:23, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rocky Marval source[edit]

Rocky's former partner Call Urbanski is a friend of ours which is where the info in the Rocky Marval article comes from. There are no sources to cite. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Chartran (talkcontribs) 11:56, 9 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Himachal articles[edit]

Hello. I see that you have recently created a number of very short articles that have (himachal) in the title. These articles appear to be short pieces of a larger narrative. The individual sections by themselves do not seem to make a lot of sense. Perhaps it would be more useful to combine them into one or two longer articles that provide a broader historical context for the individual events described in the existing articles. --Russ (talk) 12:51, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Anglo gorkha and anglo sikh war (himachal), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. How is Satyanand Stokes related to Vidya Stokes, I've heard of the Asha Sharma relation, but not the other one.Bakaman 00:13, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sushant, you are right... I have gotten very busy in real life... Will hopefully return to editing in some time... Go ahead and rewrite the Geography of Himachal article mercilessly. Feel free to rewrite it completely. And you are right about the lack of editors on HP as well... Hopefully some more people will join as the net access gets better there... — Lost(talk) 14:24, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Digerronden[edit]

You put up unreferenced and context-tags on Digerronden. I removed the unreferenced-tag, as all facts in it are referenced. But do you think it needs further context (I have made some changes)? --Berland 09:16, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi berland, the page don't cite any thing from where you took the info. you need to cite it properly before removing the tag. create the reference column and mention the source. if you don't know how to cite source then do take a look at the following link-

WP:CITE. One more thing don't remove tags until you are sure. you might get blocked. Anyway may i help you. don't hesitate in asking any of your query. though my english is sick but i'll try my best to answer you. Sushant gupta 09:41, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All the info on the page is deducable from the Topographic map that is mentioned in the Infobox, so stating that the article does not cite its sources is erroneous, that is why I simply removed the tag (but I won't do it the next time). But of course, this reference could be more explicitly stated. But I have never seen a mountain where the topo map has been mentioned in the References section (though I sometimes write the primary factor with such a reference, as it is sometimes not deducable from a single topo map). If you could show me an example of how to reference all the info in the infobox with a map reference, I would like to see how it should be properly done. --Berland 11:19, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
hello berland, you mean to say

this is sufficient for citation. See you need not worry about it. you tell me from where you took the content and i'll mention the source for you. when i was new here i was also confused regarding citation. Sushant gupta 11:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not exactly, I am talking about the topographic map in the infobox, which refers to the official topographic map series of Norway, M711. This map, "1718 I Rondane" is the reference for all the information in the article. So the article is not unreferenced, but we could write the reference in another way, I am open to suggestions. Also, I wonder if you still need more context, and what context, and I can try to improve. --Berland 14:54, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia positions[edit]

Wikipedia itself is not a company, so there are no jobs available with Wikipedia. However, there are very occasionally positions advertised by the Wikimedia Foundation at Wikimedia:Job openings. They have very few staff though since the project is run by volunteers. Angela. 11:12, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Accounts are given out by Board members to people who are already involved with Wikimedia. I suggest you look at meta: for ways you can get involved as a volunteer if that is what you want to do, but if you're only looking for paid work, please understand that such positions very rarely come up. You don't need an account on that wiki to apply for those. Angela. 11:48, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Indian wildlife portal[edit]

I am really sorry that I am bit late in replying, my net connection was giving a bit problems for the past few days. u are really fast, for the past few days i was thinking of creating the same. by the way great work, keep it up. The current portal looks more like that of the protected areas of india, from the history i found out that u moved the page once and again moved it back. By the way u can create a seperate indian wildlife portal and lets move this page to protected areas of india with some admin help. Amartyabag TALK2ME 10:16, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Regarding your comment in the FAC of Climate of India ("the page needs to be properly wikified"), could you please specify where the article needs wikification? At least some instances will help. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 10:27, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. Please never do that and please do not start any such page - it is wrong to do so. Please never think of starting any page in my name as a simple reporting in a newspaper does not satisfy notability guidelines. Please listen to me and please do not try to create any page about me. Thank you. --Bhadani (talk) 12:17, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
However, you may surely see my photographs Bhadani. --Bhadani (talk) 12:22, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HP FAC[edit]

Hi Sushant, in its current form, the article is far from ready. The sub articles are very nice but they will not see the article sail through an FAC. The article has almost no inline citations. Also the flow is not very good. There will possibly be a lot of work required before you nominate the article for FAC. Infact I suggest you go for a peer review before an FAC. And take ideas from Nichalp, Dwaipayanc etc. — Lost(talk) 08:20, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i am not talking about the current page. Sushant gupta (talk · contribs) 11:01, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
