Cincinnati bridges[edit]

I took some pics of the bridges around Cincy today and posted them to Commons. Find 'em here: commons:category:Cincinnati, Ohio.

Thanks a lot. --taestell 07:11, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

  • I got a better shot of the Taylor-Southgate the other day from across the river. --Tysto 04:51, 2005 August 14 (UTC)

Thank you for adding to wikipedia however I must point out that EPs are not considered albums and should not be added to that list. Also some longtime editors like Tuf-KAT are pretty much strict on what can be added to the list and periodically delete entries that are not formatted and do not have info boxes. Megan1967 04:33, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I will go ahead and remove all of the EPs from the list. The articles themselves were just created, and hopefully will grow to eventually contain info boxes. taestell 19:42, Apr 22, 2005 (UTC)

Systm pre-VFD[edit]

I saved the old Systm article, including the revision history, via Special:Export before it was deleted. I'm not sure how you saved it (if at all), but if you're interested I can send the file (xml) to you. —Markaci 2005-06-22 T 17:54 Z

Thanks man! I don't know why they pruned the revision history so that I can't revert to previous revision. Maybe because the one who did that is an admin? Anyway, thanks for fixing the article. --minghong 02:17, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

User:Tony Sidaway merged the article with Mozilla, eliminating its history. I understand that there was some sort of GNU FDL issue, but I still think it was a bad idea to undo all of the work everyone had put into that article. Oh well, it'll get fixed. --taestell 03:21, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)

f2g.net[edit]

It seems that the server is down. I can't visit my website, can't login the FTP or web interface. Just to see if you encounter the same problem too. :-/ --minghong 16:20, 28 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've experienced a lot of problems with f2g.net, especially general slowness. I just moved my main blog to a different free host, cjb.cc. It's very similar to f2g, except that they give more space and bandwidth, and allow some PHP and .htaccess. The guy running it hand-approves all of the applications, so it hopefully will not ever become as slow and unreliable as f2g. --taestell 23:59, July 30, 2005 (UTC)

It seems that the DoS attacks had finished. At least I can access my website now. :-) --minghong 12:55, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Baltic States[edit]

Hi, surely the Baltic States are commonly understood in English as Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia and the article Baltic States should primarily deal with that? The article as it is is 95% about them as it is, and this conception of 'Baltic Countries' while valid (e.g. http://www.cbss.st ?) is somewhat secondary to the existing meaning. Disclaimer: I have no specific knowledge on this, only snooping around because I'm off to Riga next week! -- Blorg 23:39, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not an expert on the topic, and I merged the three or four articles on the subject per requests from other users. I organized the sections (Baltic Sea countries, Balticum, Baltic states) in the most logical way that I knew how. However, if you know more on the topic than I do, I'm sure the article would benefit greatly from your contributions and reorganization. Thanks, --taestell 05:23, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning EP[edit]

I noticed you changed it from a redirect to European Parliament to a disambiguation page. However, we are currently seeking consensus on what to do with EP on its talk page. Please read the talk page, and possibly add in your two cents. (You don't have to undo your changes though.) To give you a little background, it was originally a disambiguation page, but then I argued that it should redirect to extended play, to which a few people agreed (and no one disagreed). Then, someone changed it to redirect to European Parliament, and we have to start all over again. My arguments against it being a disambiguation page are on the EP talk page. Chris(topher) Wood[edit]

Thank you for your good work here. I see that you're continuing to clear up the mess. When you get tired or too bored, don't push yourself but instead just stop: I have to disconnect myself from the net for a couple of hours now, but after that I'll continue the disambiguation. -- Hoary 00:53, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help on this. Unfortunately, I don't know a lot about the artists named Christopher Wood and it is hard to tell on some pages which one is being talked about.

For now, I'm just leaving several of them how they are; hopefully you or someone else knows more about them than I do. --taestell 01:08, 21 October 2006 (UTC) Done. (Aside from more or less automatically generated pages, archives, and a user page.) There's something slightly fishy about the Scots artist, however. This pair of edits was of course indefensible, but thought provoking all the same. -- Hoary[reply]

dab assistance[edit]

Thanks for the help with the William Wrigley dabs. I am wondering how I should dab the Category:Busch family. Many of them seem like they should have August Busch dab headers. However, it may be more appropriate for the whole family to have Busch dab headers. What do you think? TonyTheTiger 16:10, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Supremes albums[edit]

Category:The Supremes albums is a subset of Category:Motown albums (all Supremes LP releases were issued on Motown). Therefore, each Supremes album should not be included individually in the Motown albums category. --FuriousFreddy 03:49, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My frustrations wasn't totally directed towards per se, but towards the site in general, and some of our fellow Wikipedians and the way this site is used. Just wondering what was wrong with the previous name for this article (Mike Smith (Gloucestershire cricketer)). It doesn't particularly matter since the redirect from the latter still exists, but given that he's always called Mike it seems strange to change the article title to a form of his name that I don't think I've ever seen used! LoPbN Cat[edit]

Checking for Cat'n of LoPbN pages by scanning their source is an erroneous procedure. Their renderings show the Cat that they "inherit" by design thru a template.

Image:Shams3bw.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Shams3bw.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 03:59, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could you explain somebody would make edits like this? I might point a couple things out to you:

  1. The link points to the same article before and after your edit.
  2. You made no change which is visible to the reader, not even changing "and" to "&", as you may have intended, if indeed the ampersand is the more correct form.
  3. Needlessly adding piped links on a large scale makes paragraph text more verbose and difficult for article editors to sift through.

Please consider leaving the harmless redirects alone. On the other hand, there are likely thousands of pages that link to misspelled redirects. "Fixing" these "wikified typoes" (by doing a full replacement of the bracketed text) would be of significantly greater benefit (you will probably find other spelling errors to fix while you're there, even) than changing a link that's not broken, and piping one that needs not be disambiguated. —freak(talk) 21:32, Nov. 9, 2006 (UTC)

TV/radio station moves[edit]

Hi! Just want to let you know that I think you've misinterpreted the naming conventions. Per WP:NAME:

All full-power Canadian FM and commercial TV stations have a (-FM or -TV) suffix... most U.S. and many Mexican stations, do not.

A quick search of the FCC FM Query for, say, WUSB shows that the correct call sign is simply "WUSB"; compare to the results for WCBS (which lists the station as "WCBS-FM").

Some parts of the guidelines refer to what to do if there are multiple stations with the same base callsign. It doesn't mean that all FM/TV stations should have titles with the "-FM"/"-TV" suffices, because many do not.

It's a common mistake, but the distinction is important. Happy editing! — stickguy (:^›)— || talk || 22:08, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening. Per the discussion about privacy concerns expressed at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Privacy of birthdays, date of birth should generally not be added to the biographies of living non-public or semi-public figures. So far, that policy has been interpreted fairly strictly with a pretty high bar being set for the definition of "public figures" who are assumed to have given up their rights to privacy.

By the same token, we should not be adding Category:Date of birth missing to articles unless we have made the case that the person meets the "public figures" threshold. Otherwise, we're just baiting new users into adding content even though the community has already said that we shouldn't include that particular data point. Category:Year of birth missing is okay but the exact date is often not. Thanks for your help. Rossami (talk) 06:01, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:MMW.jpg. You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 00:59, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:BitTornado 0.3.7 on Windows XP.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BitTornado 0.3.7 on Windows XP.png. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 06:19, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Thee Shams[edit]

A tag has been placed on Thee Shams requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. WilliamRoper (talk) 08:05, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Bearcast[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Bearcast, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Bearcast.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bearcast.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:13, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Taestell! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 974 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Greg Brown (rock musician) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:14, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:57, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

allizom[edit]

Hi,

You once edited the allizom redirect. What is it for? --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 19:27, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Deathray has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No reliable sources found.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Disambiguation link notification for December 23[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Cincinnati Streetcar, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page David Mann (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
