Promotion of List of Doctor Who Christmas and New Year's specials
[edit]WikiCup 2024 August newsletter
[edit]The fourth round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 29 August. Each of the 8 contestants who advanced to Round 4 scored at least 472 points, and the following contestants scored more than 700 points:
- Generalissima (submissions) with 1,150 points, mostly from 3 featured articles, 2 featured lists, 7 good articles, and 13 did you know nominations;
- Arconning (submissions) with 791 points, mostly from 2 featured lists, 8 good articles, 4 did you know nominations, and plenty of reviews;
- AirshipJungleman29 (submissions) with 718 points, mostly from a high-multiplier featured article on Genghis Khan and 2 good articles; and
- BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 714 points, mostly from 1 featured article on Susanna Hoffs, 2 featured lists, and 3 good articles.
Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated. Contestants put in extraordinary amounts of effort during this round, and their scores can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 36 featured articles, 55 featured lists, 15 good articles, 93 in the news credits, and at least 333 did you know credits. They have conducted 357 featured content reviews, as well as 553 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 30 articles to featured topics and good topics.
Any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed during Round 5, which starts on 1 September at 00:00 (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. If two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether for a good article, featured content, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Remember to claim your points within 14 days of earning them, and importantly, before the deadline on 31 October.
If you would like to learn more about rules and scoring for the 2024 WikiCup, please see this page. Further questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Private Practice season 1
[edit]Hello again. Sorry for the random message. I hope you are doing well. I wanted to let you know that I am planning on rewriting the Private Practice season 1 article. A couple of years ago, we talked about how it is really more of an article than a list. I just wanted to double-check with you to make sure that it was okay that I was going to rework the article. In one of your edit summaries (here), you said that you considered making this one of your projects so I wanted to check in you so I did not want to over-step or anything like that. Aoba47 (talk) 23:21, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Aoba47: Feel free to reach out anytime! I'm doing pretty well (minus the COVID), I hope you're well, too! As expected, I've gotten sidetracked with several other projects and I haven't made it back around to that article. That said, I probably won't have the time in the foreseeable future to take it on a solo-project, so feel free to take it on yourself! If you need any help on a specific area I may be able to spend a bit of time on a section or two, just let me know and I'll see what I can do, but I'll let you take the overall lead. TheDoctorWho (talk) 04:14, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! You can always reach out to me anytime as well. I hope that you feel better soon. I had COVID a few years ago and it was pretty rough. Obviously, your health should take priority over anything else. I will definitely let you know if I need any help with anything. I plan on taking my time with this project as I am trying to be better with balancing Wikipedia with other things in my life. I have mostly just been looking through and formatting citations for now. I honestly cannot believe that I forgot to mention the 2007–08 Writers Guild of America strike in the article as it did have a big impact on the season, but I have been trying to not be as hard on myself. Again, I hope that you feel better soon. Aoba47 (talk) 14:54, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry for the double reply. I just wanted to let you know that I decided to not rewrite Private Practice season 1. Even though it seemed like a good idea at the time, I really did not enjoy the process and had many false starts with it. I believe that my primary reason for wanting to revisit it was that I felt a bit ashamed of my work there and I felt more obligated to improve it rather than actually enjoying it (and I am aware that is not a good mindset to have in general). I would not have any issue with Private Practice season 1 being brought through the WP:FLRC process, and I do find the recent discussion on these FLs for television seasons to be interesting. Anyway, apologies again for the long message. Just wanted to explain this since I brought it up to you in the first place. Hope you are feeling better! Aoba47 (talk) 01:25, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- Apologies for the late reply. I am feeling much better, thank you. You definitely shouldn't be ashamed of it, it's a very well-written article! I may offer to oversee this one at GA given the way the discussion you mentioned has been going. As for FA, I hope to get it there someday, but it likely won't be in the immediate or even semi-distant future. TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:40, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- I am glad that you are feeling better. That is really the most important thing. There is no need to apologize. Thank you for the kind words. I just get too stuck in my own head about it rather than being proud of my past work. I have citations for the article in my sandbox history so let me know at anytime if that would be helpful. I did not go through Newspapers.com as I did not have access to it at the time, but I do have online sources. No pressure of course as I do not have any plans on working on it either. Just out of curiosity, what are projects are you thinking of working on for the future? Aoba47 (talk) 22:08, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- I definitely understand where you're coming from. I've definitely struggled with the same thing before. Things that I've considered to be good content five years ago seems really crappy compared to the pages I've produced more recently.
- As for my my current plans, I'm trying not to do much thinking since it seems like I am already in the middle of so many projects 😅. Those are currently spread across a few areas, but just to name my primary ones that I'm actively working on. Doctor Who specials (2022), Doctor Who series 14, and their related episode articles are both on track to all be good topics. Individually, I'm hoping to also get the nine Line of Duty articles to a GT and have also been meaning to expand Cobra Kai season 6 and get it to GA status. The only thing that I'll admit to thinking about was eventually pursuing FA for either Line of Duty or Tulsa King, but that process is stressful so I'm not quite sure. TheDoctorWho (talk) 03:22, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the response. I would say that I am glad that I am not the only one who has felt this way, but I am sorry that it has happened to you as well. It is a weird feeling for sure. Best of luck with the projects! The FAC process can be quite stressful so I completely understand that. Whenever I do become more active on Wikipedia, I would be more than happy to help out if/when possible. Aoba47 (talk) 17:27, 6 October 2024 (UTC)

The Christmas Invasion
[edit]I apologize for my inactivity in regards to improving that article, as I've had a lot hit me irl and what time I've been spending on Wikipedia has been dedicated to clearing up a few things in other WikiProjects I'm associated with. I'm really sorry about the delays; I'll try to get on the article soon. Has one ever considered Magneton? Pokelego999 (talk) 04:42, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- No worries, I've had a few IRL commitments that have kept me from progressing on the set that I've been working on. Some of these bigger projects take time, that's why I'm glad that there's multiple of us tackling this one. I'm hoping to get a start on Revolution in the next week or so.
