Stats tables[edit]
G'day, I see that you've added a stats table to Jobe Watson. Sorry to be blunt, but I really hate them in wikipedia articles, espeicailly for currently active players. Leave them on the link to AFL Tables. They run a database, and it all happens automagically after each game. Ours need manual updating. Most stats are also fluid - up until recently, each paper would publish their own stats, and they'd all be slightly different. They also aren't really that significant - I much prefer to only see games and goals. I'm not going to revert you (unless you start adding them to Freo players!) but I ask you to reconsider what benefit they really provide. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 01:32, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
- The basis for having them is pretty simple: the only modern AFL player to be FA'd is Joel Selwood, and the table is plied from that. If that's the high standard, then so be it. I think there's definitely a huge advantage to have statistical data and biographical information in the one spot, and it's the only real quantifiable way to demonstrate the ebb and flow of a single player's career. Games and goals are readily available in infoboxes, of course. The table is really only the most universal statistics anyway, plus goals and behinds. I would say that they only need to be updated at the end of every season (and to do the whole comp, it would be about 4 hours work at most). As for the varying stats, that much is true, but if FootyWire is an acceptable standard for an FA I don't see why that just shouldn't be the primary source. New player articles[edit]
G'day ...., Thanks for creating articles for the new players, it's always good to have a basic stub created by someone who knows what they are doing, rather than a first time editor. A couple of suggestions to add to your "standard player article".
- Can you please put the stub tag right at the bottom, not above the navboxes - it's in the WP:ORDER guidelines.
- Could you add a Category:Australian rules footballers from Victoria or wherever to the category list. We noticed that without this, the players don't always fall under the Category:Australian people tree, as not everyone who is a Category:Collingwood Football Club players is necessarily Australian. So for recursive category searching through the Australian people cat tree, we missed most AFL players.
- As some people read WP:BLP in black and white and not shades of grey, not having a properly cited reference to an independent source in addition to the external link can result in some editors tagging it as unreferenced. I disagree with this, but it does happen. The easiest answer is to just find a story in a newspaper about him (generally not hard for most current players) and add it to the first version.
- Finally, if you could add the WPBio and WPAust/AFL tags to the talk page, I'd barely even have to look at your new pages!
If you wonder how I find them, I have Special:RecentChangesLinked/List_of_current_AFL_team_squads bookmarked - a very useful page to detect vandalism on current player articles, but it also detects New pages. Thanks again, cheers, The-Pope (talk) 01:40, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Hey, saw you made a start on making rookie draft and pre-season draft navboxes. Fair enough that you redlinked all the players for the 2012 templates as they're all still on AFL lists, but if you plan on going further back with these it might be a good idea to only redlink guys who played an AFL match or are still listed. VFL/AFL premiership templates[edit]
Hey,
If you're ever looking for something to do, template related, I reckon we should phase out the multiple premiership templates like 1955-57 1959-60 Melbourne Demons premiership players (the most extreme example) and replace them with the individual years. The only reason they were combined originally was to avoid having too many templates on a page, but now I don't think it really matters. What are your thoughts? - I'm open to the discussion... I don't mind the condensed format per se, but I do think that you lose information, such as certain teammates and in some circumstances, some premiership coaches which is the ultimate point of said templates. GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive[edit]
In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00. At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge. |

March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive[edit]
It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:
- This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
- Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
- The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
- An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.
Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.

WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive[edit]
Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!
TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.
If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.
At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.
As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

GA Cup[edit]
Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!
As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:
For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.
For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).

WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup[edit]
 WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers. Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition. Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now! If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the four judges.
