UAA submissions

Thank you for making a report at Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention. Unfortunately, your report has been removed due to the username not violating policy, or not being blatant enough for a block. Please remember you should only post infringements on this page if they are so grave that the user needs to be blocked immediately. Others should be discussed with the user in question first, for example using the {{Uw-username}} template. A request for comment can be filed if the user disagrees that their name is against the username policy, or has continued to edit after you have expressed your concern. Thank you.

Claiming that Joan de arc1412 (talk · contribs) is blockable because it is the name of a living person or a recently deceased person when Joan of Arc died in 1431 seems like a poor-quality submission to me. If we expect admins to take our UAA submissions seriously, I think we need to be correct when we assert why a username requires immediate blocking. MKoltnow 17:57, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Look at this

User was blocked by admin User:Animum.

So next time please look before you put a message like that on my talk page.

Mel Bampton

Hi, thanks for commenting on my change to the Mel Bampton entry. If you wouldn't mind, would you go back and review your decision to replace all the text I deleted? You will note that it is a word for word reproduction of the text above it. Following your changes, the page clearly looks like a new user's misunderstanding of wiki's editing code.

I therefore suggest we revert to the earlier deletion. Would you mind commenting on this suggested change? I await your response.

Hi, still waiting for your review of the change. Please clarify on this page whether your earlier change was unecessary. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hydeparkblvd (talkcontribs) 17:06, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

G'day, I see you've noticed my entry on the Proclamation of Governor Bourke. What I'd like to do is source the link on the Batman's Treaty page to the document on wikisource... which I've now figured out how to do. I spose that was helpful of you, o helpful one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Menswear (talkcontribs) 15:24, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A bit more alertness, please

You recently nominated a page named "FUCK FUCK FUCK" for deletion. If you look at the edit history, you see that a vandal actually renamed Wikipedia:Administrators Noticeboard to "FUCK FUCK FUCK". As a result, you nominated the Administrators noticeboard for deletion.Kww (talk) 19:33, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ahhh, that would explain the warning on User_talk:Ta_bu_shi_da_yu. TBSDY was one of the creators of ANI, not the vandalism page, and has been retired for a few months. Could I ask you to please remove that warning from TBSDY's talk page? Regards.--12 Noon  19:53, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bad faith edit

Do not stick a silly template making ridiculous accusations of vandalism against me on my talk page ever again as I will post these bad faith allegations of yours to AN/I if you do. Understood? Thanks, SqueakBox 18:36, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the explanation, sounds like there was bad faith but not on your part. I have never used twinkle but if it is generating such bad accusations against good faith vandal fighters then we have a problem and this probably should be posted on AN/I as some more thin skinned or less experienced user might well feel trolled and leave the project. And yes someone moved Brian Eno to Brian Emo and I reverted. To stick templates on anti-vandal users talk pages accusing them of vandalism is simply way unacceptable. Rudget!

Dear Thehelpfulone, my sincere thanks for your support in my second request for adminship, which ended with 113 supports, 11 opposes, and 4 neutral. I would especially like to thank my admin coach and nominator, Rlevse and Ryan Postlethwaite who in addition to Ioeth all inspired me to run for a second candidacy. I would also like to make a special mention to Phoenix-wiki, Dihyrdogen Monoxide and OhanaUnited who all offered to do co-nominations, but I unfortunately had to decline. I had all these funny ideas that it would fail again, and I was prepared for the worst, but at least it showed that the community really does have something other places don't. Who would have though Gmail would have been so effective? 32 emails in one week! (Even if it does classify some as junk :P) I'm glad that I've been appointed after a nail biting and some might call, decision changing RFA, but if you ever need anything, just get in touch. The very best of luck for 2008 and beyond, Rudget. 16:09, 15 January 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Excess only warning blocks

Hi, please explain your excess only warning warnings on User_talk:64.80.63.131. A only warning is level 4, which means after one vandalism you should AIV report after the only warning. I would just like to remind you of that. Please answer the question on my talk page.

Thanks,

The Helpful One (Talk) (Contributions) (Review Me!) 18:04, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I came here to say the same thing. There are many reasons not to use the only warning notices. One is that they don't work. Another, as seen here, is that they are often not the only warning. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:08, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, its not really usual two people come in for the same issue at almost the same time. I will give an explanation on this one: Personally i use the vand4im to indicate there has been a warning past the last warning. Usually im using this as a reminder to myself that this user has already been reported, saving me the hassle to report twice. Also, i dont deem it just that anything after the last warning is deemed "Void" since it has already been reported to AIV. I have met several IPs that committed over 20 vandalisms)On the logs), yet only received a 4 warning + ban sequence(On the talk). In those cases future vandal fighters tend to be lenient with IP' s that generally cause a lot of reversion work. By marking them with the amount of vandalisms after the final warning, they will probably go down faster due to higher first warning levels.

I understand that this one is especially worse, and the amount of vand4im's looks rediculous. Normally there is 1, at most two vand4ims after a vand4 on any IP. This one however, managed to get up to equal performance with manual vandalism, then i could get with automated reversal; Hence, the insane amount of 4ims! I used to use a custom template to tell a user he was on AIAV, but after a recent discussion with another ditor i found out that this template was removed some time ago, which caused me to go back to my usual vand4im sequences.

I hope this explains the situation a bit, and with kind regards, --Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 18:17, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the user answered the question? Do you get this as I certainly don't, too much waffle! The Helpful One (Talk) (Contributions) (Review Me!) 18:21, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation

  • (Sigh something about being lucky to watch other talk pages)

For the people who DONT understand:
1) User receives level 4 warning
2) User vandalizes again, gets reported.
3) User vandalizes again, warning is already 4, marking as 4im for tracability (tracking Already reported/Warnings not getting lost)
4) IF vandalism.commited.again = true THEN goto 3.
Clear? --Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 18:30, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But you haven't said why you did so many excess only warning warnings! Just a simple reason is required, and please don't do so many next time! The Helpful One (Talk) (Contributions) (Review Me!) 18:31, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes i did: Also, i dont deem it just that anything after the last warning is deemed "Void" since the user has already been reported to AIV
In short: Im adding a warning for each offense, regardless the reporting status or the amount of warnings. No single editor ever looks at the user contribution list, let alone doing a diff of the edits they made. All the offences should result in warnings should be on the talk page, to give a complete image of the user. --Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 18:36, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thx

Thanks for the notification and the question which you will see I was surprised by. I now have a question. Do you think I should sign my previous answers? I wouldn't want to be seen as "removing evidence". Cheers Victuallers (talk) 21:22, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for adding that Welcome Template to my User Talk Page. I am just curious why you did so? I have been editing for quite some time now. And, coincidentally, I noticed that my contribution count was approaching 10,000 edits. I actually have that Template, but I just moved it to another one of my Pages -- a Sandbox page. This way, I can refer to it when I need to -- but it does not stare me in the face every time I go to my Talk Page. (I rarely use the Template, but I am constantly on my Talk Page.) Just curious. Hi

I notice you tagged Wavelet transfromation vs fourier transformation as patent nonsense. While a "versus" style article is of course not appropriate for wikipedia, that doesn't mean that the content is patent nonsense. You could have just as easily moved the article to a more appropriate title and attempted to rewrite it, or even left it for others to rewrite.--69.118.143.107 (talk) 19:48, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Anthony Horowitz.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Anthony Horowitz.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:46, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Black Christmas revert

Thanks for your message re: the reversion of my edits to the Black Christmas entry (quoted below). I assumed that the majority of my changes involved incorporating trivia entries into the body of the article, their constructiveness was pretty obvious, but I'll be sure to provide that informative edit summary you suggest in the future, so it's crystal clear. Your suggestion that I use the sandbox for testing is noted. I will endeavor not to infer any condescension in it, or to take offense at same. I am aware of its presence, and will use it for testing, as you suggest. When I have good-faith contributions to make to particular articles, I will continue to edit the articles directly.
