unblocking guide[edit]

Step 1) check your own block log. Go to 'my contributions and across the top, block log. It will tell you. -- Wirelain 23:37, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And what did you find when you looked? -- Wirelain 23:55, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

THERE WAS NOTHING THERE! I AM REALLY REALLY POSITIVE I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING WRONG!

Good. Step 2) Check the IPblocklog for your ip and see why it's blocked. Special pages, List of currently blocked IP addresses and usernames, put in your ip and push search. Since your username was not blocked, it must be IP. -- Wirelain 00:03, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can't unblock you without knowing your IP address. Can you post it here? NoSeptember talk 00:19, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MY IP IS 81.129.36.169

That IP has no record of being blocked either. I went ahead and unblocked it anyway, just in case. Try it. NoSeptember talk 00:27, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, it may have been part of a range block, which would not show under each individual IP. Glad it worked. NoSeptember talk 00:37, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What help is it you need? ForestH2
Now don't take this as if you won't be a good admin, I think you'd make a great admin. But someone with 22 edits is most likely not going to get much supports. You have to be nominated for admin and then the Wikipedia community will ethier pick Support, Nuetral, or Oppose. If you get so many supports you become an admin. However, I think you'd make a great admin but you only have 22 edits and a LOT of people are going to disagree and say you need to be around more. To respond you need to ask someone to nominate you...that thinks 22 votes is enough. I nominated Foxearth for adminship and he only had 300. So....I hope you understand now, this doesn't mean you can't be nominated for adminship and if you want to again, have to find someone to nominate you. ForestH2

Touth why don't you ask me next week or around the end of May about adminship? Then you'll most likely have enough edits. Don't feel discouraged. In fact, if you want to do it like in two weeks, it's my pleasure to nominate you. You may want to create the userbox. Hope to be Adminnistrator like on Cracker017. ForestH2

Touth contact me next week and we will look in to it. Post to my talk page. Best Regards, ForestH2

Yes, you'll be able to edit every page....In the mean time build up those edits to at least 100 you currently have 34. ForestH2

Further into Action[edit]

Do not nominate yourself until the end of May. You can, you'll just get a lot of opposes. But here's the sheet that has the Requests for Adminship. Requests for adminship You can nominate any other user if you feel they would make a good admin. Try to nominate the users who have a lot of edits. ForestH2

37 edits....500 needed. ForestH2

You need at least. 1,000 edits. I didn't want to get Touth's hopes up. Actully, you can nominate yourself when ever you want. But I'd say 5-8 months, 1,000 edits. Something in there. ForestH2

Sorry to intrude here, but I must offer some advice. I feel ForestH2 is very much mistaken in advising you that 100 edits would be appropriate before you request adminship. Per Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship a good rule of thumb is probably at least 1000 edits and two months of activity on the English Wikipedia. Whilst ForestH2 is perfectly entitled to nominate you for adminship at any point, I would remind you that nomination alone is not enough: it would then be for the community to reach a consensus as to whether you would make a good administrator. I would offer you strong advice that accepting a nomination (or self nominating) for adminship with less than 100 edits will fail. You may find it helpful to read over other user's standards that they use when choosing to support or oppose an RFA at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Standards. I see your question "look if i really was an administrator would i be able to edit every article on wikipedia?" and am not sure you fully understand who Administrators are. As an editor like you are now, you can edit every article on Wikipedia with only a few exceptions (things like the Main Page are protected against vandalism). Before you should consider being nominated, you need to build up experience with all aspects of editing Wikipedia (and understanding our policies). I would encourage you to make significantly more contributions to Wikipedia articles, and to take part in some of the WP namespace activities (things like WP:AFD would be a good start) before considering adminship. Being an administrator should be no big deal... it gives you tools to block users, and to protect or delete pages, and that's about it. There's a lot you can do to help without admin tools! UkPaolo/talk 08:38, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You see, I didn't want to get Touth's hopes down. Actully, I know you need to have AT least 1,000 edits on the English or you know 5-8 months before becoming an admin. I suggest Touth thinks about just editing for another 4 months....ForestH2

Hello[edit]

Hello, just a small request; can you please not talk in all-capital letters? I.e., LIKE THIS? I mean, you can if you want to, but people generally don't take your opinion as seriously if it looks like you're screaming at them. If you want someone to listen to you, try talking calmly and politely. Thanks, Master of Puppets That's hot. 00:34, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's ok, I was just wondering if you could do me a favor. Thanks again! Master of Puppets That's hot. 00:43, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

help[edit]

What do you need help with? --pgk(talk) 18:26, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

USING ALL CAPS IS GENERALLY CONSIDERED SHOUTING AND VERY RUDE. Wikipedia has a policy regaring civility, shouting and call other users silly is not civil. I understand your frustration at being caught in a block, but keep cool. As above look in the block log and you have not been directly blocked, you are likely collateral damage of the IP address being blocked. The block message which you got contains a section entitled "Innocent?" which explains some of this.
Admins cannot see who will be impacted by an IP address block or the result of an autoblock. As above also the people looking at {{helpme}} generally cannot help as they are not admins. As the block message says you need the {{unblock}} tag. However I am an admin an can look at this. What precisely is the block message you get? --pgk(talk) 18:46, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock}}

I still need to know the precise block message you get. --pgk(talk) 18:48, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
When you try and edit an article you get a message telling you that you are blocked. It contains some details about the reason for the block. I need to know those details. And again do not use the {{helpme}} tag for unblock requests, it won't get you unblocked any quicker. --pgk(talk) 19:19, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock}}

you don't appear to be blocked. you've most probably been affected by an autoblock. In which case we'll need to know what IP address is displayed in the "blocked" message you're receiving when you try to edit. If you could copy and paste the message here, we can look into it... UkPaolo/talk 20:16, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As I've asked several times now you need to give me the details of the block. If I don't know what the cause of the block is, how can I undo it??? As the unblock template says "If the block message says that your IP address is blocked or that your IP address was recently used by a blocked user, please paste the block message or post your IP address below as we have no way of unblocking you if your username itself was not blocked." --pgk(talk) 20:17, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

this is the IP address 86.139.34.73.

OK That IP also is not directly blocked. You must be getting a message like "Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by ..." I need to know that part so I can removed the autoblock and make sure you don't get that particular block affecting you again. --pgk(talk) 20:26, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

its been used by an editer that i DONT know! he or she is named Pika88

Ok I've removed the autoblock now. You should be ok. --pgk(talk) 20:37, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

What help do you need? I haven't heard from you in a while. ForestH2

I AM REALLY GETTING SICK OF THIS NOW! I HAVE BEEN BLOCKED FOR THE 3RD TIME FOR NO FRICKEN REASON! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Touth (talkcontribs)

I'll look into this but don't use caps O.K? This is your last warning. The next time you use caps you could be blocked for yelling at other users. ForestH2

i want you to go and contact wikipedia and say that a user named touth is having a serious problem getting blocked repeatly if you dont mind. please? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Touth (talkcontribs)

Well I'm ahead of you. I just went to Pgk's page and asked what he could do and now I am going to contact Wikipedia and ask them why this keeps happening on you. O.K? —Preceding unsigned comment added by ForestH2 (talkcontribs)
You need to read the section of the block message entitled "Innocent?", shouting about being sick of it doesn't help. Like the last couple of times you need to give us the details of the block if you want us to be able to do anything about it, we can't see the block message you get. --pgk(talk) 23:16, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

thank you thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Touth (talkcontribs)

But the details of the block are still up in the air. Thank you pgk for responding to me. ForestH2

it says that i have been blocked by katefan0 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Touth (talkcontribs)

That is a lie, Touth. Katefan0 doesn't edit Wikipedia anymore. ForestH2 (discuss | contribs)

And where does it say that? ForestH2 (discuss | contribs)

Touth, try to edit. NoSeptember talk 23:28, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

of course it says so! when i click on the edit this page tab i just get a message saying i have been blocked by katefan0. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Touth (talkcontribs)

Katefan0 doesn't edit anymore. He couldn't have blocked you. What don't you understand? ForestH2

Hold on, don't jump to conclusions about it being a lie, autoblocks can still exist even though the admin may not be currently active. I'll assume this is the same one as last time Pikka88? But Touth you need to give us the proper information you've been through this several times and with the shouting and having to ask several times before you give us what is needed this is annoying procedure for me and takes several times longer than it should. --pgk(talk) 23:30, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Really pgk? I never knew. ForestH2

Yes, see Wikipedia:Autoblock --pgk(talk) 23:33, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I've removed one autoblock and I hope it's the right one, sometimes the autoblocker may start again so try and let me know how you get on. But to reinforce what we've been through a couple of times now we need all the information, just giving us the name of the blocking admin is pretty useless they may have many blocks outstanding, we can't guess you need to give us the full information, even if it is the same as the last time, keep it simple and the process works a lot faster. --pgk(talk) 23:33, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Touth[edit]

I contacted some devlopers to ask why it always happens and your always affected by it. I know that you are sorry for using caps, I will forgive you. I overreacted to. Per Wikipedia's blocking policy you can't be blocked. ForestH2

Thanks. Forest

Touth, the reason I keep deleting your contributions to Lists of video games and computer games is because the links you are adding are not lists. The article specifically says "This is a list of all video game lists that can be found on Wikipedia". Pac Man is not a list. List of Pac Man games is a list but it can't be found on Wikipedia. If you want to create a List of Pac Man games article, feel free to then add a link to it in Lists of video games and computer games. Until then, it's not appropriate to keep adding links. Powers 13:31, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Touth, even if you don't know how to create a new article, it's completely inappropriate to continue behavior for which you've been warned. If you don't know how to do something, ask; don't just keep doing something wrong. If you want to create a new article, you can click on a red link to that article title, such as one of the ones in my message above. Or, if you don't have a convenient link, you can search for the article title you wish to create and click on the red link found on the search results page. And if you really don't want to create a new article, you don't have to. The article Lists of video games and computer games is for lists that already exist on Wikipedia. There is no need to add an article that isn't a list to it. Why are you so insistent on adding a Pac Man link? Powers 01:16, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

user boxes[edit]

hello again! NoSeptember i want some user boxes on my user page! can you tell me what i need to do? thanks Touth 21:37, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't use them. You can find some here, but I think it is more rewarding spending your time on writing some good articles. Cheers, NoSeptember 01:48, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Userboxes ForestH2

Mario Troll[edit]

I'm not sure what your rational is, but I suggest you avoid editing Mario for a while as it is very apparent that your views on the article are a minority of one and all you are doing at present is being disruptive. Garglebutt / (talk) 05:30, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to improve the article then discuss. Don't call us vandals. --Golbez 05:49, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe they're ignoring you because you ignored them. --Golbez 06:38, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Concern[edit]

Hi, Touth. I'm very concerned about you. I think you are a very well-intentioned editor, but I'm afraid that you're being overzealous in making sure certain changes are made to articles. We have a very very important policy at Wikipedia called "Consensus", and here's a link that explains it: WP:CONSENSUS. In a nutshell, it means that a change should be acceptable to a large number of editors. If you get into a situation, like you have with Mario where you are making a change and lots of people are reverting that change, it's likely that the consensus is against you. That's why we have a Three-Revert Rule that says you shouldn't revert a change more than three times in 24 hours.

Unfortunately, you've done just that with the Mario article, and so you'll probably be blocked for about a day. When your block expires, I hope you'll stop removing the image from the Mario article; you may not like it there, but it's clear that the consensus is to keep it.

I'd also like to discuss Lists of video games and computer games with you some more. I understand you really want Pac Man on the list of lists, but that article just is not a list. What I don't understand is why you are so insistent on Pac Man being there. Can you explain this to me? Powers 12:25, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Touth. I wanted to add a comment about Mario. Last night, I modified the lead so that it would cover the scope of the article, as recommended in WP:LEAD... and there were some edit conflicts, so my Edit summary didn't say WP:LEAD in it like I would have wanted to. Eight minutes later you reverted it because you thought my contribution was vandalism.

I'm going to guess that you didn't notice my entry on the talk page where I said I was working on the lead.

I don't claim to be an expert in Wikipedia, but I would encourage you to read the Wikipedia style guide before dismissing well-intentioned edits as vandalism. The new lead - while it may not be ideal - is much more descriptive of the article than the old lead was. Bugmuncher 00:02, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Touth, the people are not ignoring you on Mario's talk page. They like the image. Don't remove it again. ForestH2

Hi, Touth. In response to your comment on my talk page: I said above that I think you're a "very well-intentioned editor". I mean, I think your intentions are good. I do not think you intend to be disruptive to Wikipedia; I think you intend to help. But unfortunately, your actions have been disruptive. I still would very much like it if you could discuss why you want "Pac Man" added to the list of video and computer game lists. Powers 17:18, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Touth. Please work with me here. The article in question: Lists of video games and computer games simply a collection of other articles on wikipedia that are themselves lists. There is no need to list every video game character in that article. There are lots of characters besides Pac Man who are not listed in that article. The places that Pac Man does need to be listed are things like List of arcade games and List of computer and video games: P-S. You'll see that Pac Man is indeed listed on both of articles.
Now, if you think a List of Pac Man games article should be created, you can do it yourself. Just click that red link and start typing. It's easy! I'm not going to do it for you. If you really really don't want to do it yourself, you can place a request here: Wikipedia:Requested articles/Culture and fine arts#Video games. Once the article is created, THEN you can add it to the Lists of video games and computer games list.
Once again, I want to thank you for your enthusiasm. Happy editing! Powers 17:51, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree with Powers. You're adding game articles to an article about lists of games. Your edits are illegitamite because they miss the entire purpose of the article, and thus should be reverted. Don't take this personally; this is about the good of the article, not you. -- LGagnon 21:02, 13 June 2006 (UTC) Also, if you want to add series articles to a list, try List of computer and video game franchises, which is the proper place for the articles you were adding. -- LGagnon 21:04, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Be reasonable[edit]

Tooth, discuss your edits on the article's talk page; a discussion has already begun, and you are expected to explain your actions there. There is already a consensus building against you, and if you do not at least try to talk this over in a reasonable manner your edits will be considered vandalism. If you continue with what you're doing without discussing it first, I'm going to get an admin to look into this. -- LGagnon 19:39, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And no, the new section still does not justify your edits. The article is about lists, not franchises. -- LGagnon 19:41, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, do not shout at me (that is, type in all caps). That's very rude and makes your arguments look unworthy of attention. Second of all, don't make personal attacks such as "what is wrong with you"; that will be reported to an admin if you continue to use them. Lastly, you are not improving the article. Look at the current content of the article: it's all articles beginning with "List of". That is the purpose of the article: to present all game-related articles that are "List of" articles. What you are adding are not articles of that type, and thus they are removed. If you want to improve the article, add articles that begin with "List of", not the stuff you were adding. What you were adding belongs on List of computer and video game franchises. -- LGagnon 19:58, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copied from LGagnon's talk page, where I placed it incorrectly...

Take a look at List of Wario games and then a look at Dizzy series and you should be able to see the problem. You're adding an article to a list of lists. If there were an article that was titled List of Lemmings games and consisted of nothing but a list of games in which Lemmings characters were used, with links to their individual title articles, then you could add it. You're adding full articles where they do not belong. --Xinit 19:56, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Touth, I have attempted to help you understand in the past, but you haven't really taken my advice. Now, as you can see, other users are getting involved. I hate to see this happen because I like your enthusiasm. I have an important question, that I've asked before but which you've never answered: Why, exactly, are you so intent on making sure the articles you are adding to the list stay there? What is so important about them that you get upset when they are removed? Powers 23:02, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Touth, you didn't answer my question. I am not going to scold LGagnon for removing your edits, becuase I'd do the same thing. It has been explained to you why your edits are not appropriate for this article, but instead of making a good argument in favor of your position, you simply keep trying new things in the hope that something will stick. I cannot figure out why you persist, and you won't tell me. What else can I do? Powers 23:18, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Touth, you seem to be in violation of community concensus, and also of the WP:3RR. Please try and constrain your edits! HawkerTyphoon 23:37, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning[edit]

Touth - your constant reverts are classed as vandalism. Do not continue, as community concensus is against you. Further reverts will result in further warnings, and perchance a block.. HawkerTyphoon 00:08, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia under the three-revert rule, which states that nobody may revert an article to a previous version more than three times in 24 hours. (Note: this also means editing the page to reinsert an old edit. If the effect of your actions is to revert back, it qualifies as a revert.) Thank you.

The above page is not for your use as a bookmark page; please consider using your User Page or your internet browser for such things.

Why Touth is Unhappy[edit]

Copied from my talk page;

excuse me why are you getting involved in all this? you are really not helping are you? i am really not happy at all! and why are you getting everyone to look at my user page huh? Touth 02:42, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I pointed at your user page because it states that you want to be an Administrator, and I have heard that you have already applied to be one and been sent packing. You appear to be unable to understand how Wikipedia works if I am to judge solely by your edits and revisions. As you have been warned multiple times, with more than enough explanation by the parties interested in the pages you're vandalising, there's really little more that I can see to help you understand other than to request a block on your account from the Admins.
Not that it matters, but I witnessed the drama surrounding your deletion of images on Mario and was lead to the lists drama thanks to your edit history. As a Wikipedia editor, it's in my best interests to help people understand the place, but if they can't understand, what else can be done? --Xinit 03:21, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: [your] feelings[edit]

Hi Touth. I understand that you like to use the Lists of computer and video games article to navigate to your favorite articles. What I would suggest to you is that you use the article List of computer and video game franchises, either instead of or in addition to Lists of computer and video games. Does that make sense? Vandalism warning[edit]

Please do not remove content from Wikipedia; it is considered vandalism. If you want to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. LGagnon 02:19, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of Lemmings games[edit]

Hi, Touth. I saw your new article List of lemmings games. I took the liberty of a) moving it to the correct title (List of Lemmings games) and b) linking to it from Lemmings (game)#Sequels. Your new article still needs categories most desperately, as well as more content (the full list of Lemmings games can be found at Lemmings (game)#Sequels; why not just copy that list?). Powers 12:35, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, first of all, if you really don't want the article deleted, remove the {{prod}} tag from it. That will at least delay the deletion until an AfD determines its fate. Second of all, the article is incomplete as it stands; the information in Lemmings (game) is complete. I'm not sure how you intend for this list to be "different". It's just a list. Third, I'm not particularly interested in making sure this article sticks around, so I'm not going to spend my time finding images for it. Powers 23:46, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Where did Gagnon tell you not to remove it? Anyone can remove those prod tags. And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE sign your posts with ~~~~, OK? Powers 23:55, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's been taken care of. LGagnon should NOT have restored the prod tag... that's a basic concept behind the whole thing. Powers 00:04, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for deleting "List of Lemmings Games"[edit]

"excuse me Xinit! the List of Lemmings games article will not be useless! it will be a quick way for me to get to my favorite articles. do you understand? by the way if i were you i would stop hurting Touths feelings ok? thanks! Touth 00:22, 22 June 2006 (UTC)"[reply]

Touth, if all you want is a quick way to get to your favorite articles, you should place links to them on your User page. Powers 12:28, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Touth - what about our feelings? HawkerTyphoon 00:32, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Touth, I am trying to understand. Why are you so insistent on getting articles placed on the Lists of computer and video games article? You said before that you just wanted a way to access your favorite articles. I gave you a way to do that, but apparently that isn't your true motivation. Powers 14:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why not use List of computer and video games by genre? I guarantee all of your favorite games will be listed there, unlike the Lists of computer and video games article. Or, you can use List of computer and video game franchises, which includes Lemmings and Mario and Pac-Man. What I'm saying, Touth, is that there are other articles that suit your needs; you do not need to modify some other article to fit them. Powers 02:10, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: be helpful[edit]

I don't really know anything about those topics aside from what's already found in Pac-Man and Lemmings. That, and I'm not really sure the articles are necessary. Therefore, I'm not particularly interested in trying to improve them. I'll help you if you have any specific questions, but "make my articles better" is far too open a request. Powers 22:27, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
