I looked at

those articles that you sent me links to and they looked okay to me. it is not necessary to get an article reviewed or approved by anyone before publishing it on wikipedia. That the same person is authoring these articles is interesting, but the topic is one that is meaningful to her (?) so she has written them. it is always possible that she works with or even for some of these organizations, but while writing about where you work is frowned upon it is not forbidden, even if you are being paid to do it. Also feel free to ask me any questions about how wikipedia works (or doesn't work) and what you will get is my opinions on the subject. I rarely read the rules and guidelines for editing which sometimes gets me into trouble but mostly not. The areas I am careful about are picture copyrights and plagiarism or cut & paste editing without noting the source. Those things I don't do. Carptrash (talk) 23:02, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

I am glad to help make your first inter-editor interaction a pleasant one because they aren't always, but mostly they are. New page patrol is a fine cause to pick up. One thing that I suggest you get in the habit of doing when looking at new articles is who the author is. New articles, and many edits, by redlinkers are always worth looking at. I have about 4,000 articles on my watch list and almost always start with looking at redlinkers and anonymous edits. After a while you will compile a list of editors that you trust and I find that I tend to cut them more slack than I do ones that I find suspect. Yikes! I didn't think about that! I have now "cleaned out" my sandbox. I had to get used to WP's use of this term. To a cat owner, it has some different associations.

How did you save the info into a spreadsheet? I tried to use WP's "make a book" link, but this did not work for me. One of the questions I wanted to ask you was how you did the research. I understand searching for the name, but how did you access the all the IP numbers? Did you see the research I did about the locations of the various IP numbers? I'm formulating some theories.....

I went back thru the list and revisited the articles that I had researched because some of them had reference problems (not related to him) in the citations. As a result, my edit count is now over 500, and I think I may have the wiki-gnome gene, as I like to "repair" citations.

It was really nice of you to make a thank-you list on your user page. This experience has helped me to understand that the behind the scenes work is very important. My username- thanks! I was looking for inspiration, and picked up a poetry book. The Jeoffry poem is a favorite of mine.

Ha! Thanks for clearing the sandbox... I grew up playing in "sandboxes," so the way that term is used here seems about right to me. The one you think of is what I call a "cat box." I'm glad we don't deal with those on Wikipedia!

To get stuff into a spreadsheet, I do a lot of copy-and-paste, then parse the heck out of it using find and replace functions and crazy formulas. It was getting it all back INTO wiki-format that nearly stumped me. Then I found this. Wikitables have some of the most cumbersome coding I've ever seen.

For ferreting out the IPs, here's what I was doing:

1. Start with one IP that had added the refspam to an article, say 182.186.87.63
2. Go to the contributions page for that IP: Special:Contributions/182.186.87.63
3. Choose a different article that he had edited: Basque language
4. View the history for that article
5. Click on the link to the revision history search
6. And behold the perfectly named WikiBlame tool!
7. Plug his last name into the search field and run the tool
8. Wait
9. After it runs, the last line below says "Insertion found between 20:59, 25 September 2013 and 21:59, 25 September 2013", with the dates made into links
10. Click on the FIRST of the two dates to see the whole article as it was at that time
11. Click on the diff for the newer revision
12. And there is the citation, added by 84.13.74.181, and that's another IP to add to the list!

Rinse and repeat.

Of course, they weren't all so straightforward. The history-search tool can be finicky; if someone reverts the insertion, it may not be found at all. I fiddled with the various settings on the tool (it always counts backwards) until I got what I needed. Other times, I just skimmed through the history, looking for additions by IPs that were about 200 bytes, more or less.

As you can tell, I'm a little gnomish myself. Come on by my talk page anytime you have a question. I edit in fits and starts, but I'll answer whatever and whenever I can! — Gorthian (talk) 08:20, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

I saw you were recently chatting in the teahouse and you offered to help create a page. I'm getting in contact to ask if you would be able to help me? I've noticed that Bupa CEO Evelyn Bourke does not have a wiki page, and looking at the persons of notability guidelines, I feel she's sufficiently notable to be included. Especially when considering other UK business people and CEOs in similar positions already have pages. I work for Bupa and have explained that in my bio and dont want to fall foul of the conflict of interest guidelines and/or paid contributor guidelines.

Our CEO is a senior executive in the insurance and financial services industry for over 30 years. And Bupa is a company that if it was listed on the stock exchange would be in the FTSE 50. She was one of 50 execs to go to China on a trade visit last month with the British Prime Minister. And I'm also pleased she is a big champion of diversity by signing up to the 30% club - committing to ensuring over 30% of the company’s senior executives are female.

Is this something you can help with? I can supply a factual draft with external references for you to review and use as a basis as an article?

Hey there, caught your message on my TP- I would leave the ref tag up for now, because a lot of them arent working. (all links to the website which hosts a lot of the clippings has been removed because of copyvio concerns). As I mentioned on Laramies TP, I think a lot of them can be saved by converting them to standard print refs, but it will take a bit of work, and I have only checked a few. Sadly, there might not be enough info/context for some to be usable though. May have to rewrite parts of the article if we cant use or find other sources for certain ones. I hope that if Laramie isnt too discouraged, she would be a great help with the references even if the coi thing means she shouldnt directly edit. I asked her if she would, anyway.. Hi Tribe of Tiger, I am going to have to revert your changes to the above article. The program you used destroyed the references by going from individual page references to the volume. It is often very difficult to find the actual listing in a Lloyd's Register or Register of Shipping. The name may be subject to many variants and it take some experienced sleuthing to figure out where it appears. It may also appear both in the main listing and in supplemental pages, or in pages dedicated to ships of the British East India company. We also need the sequence number. Sometimes when one is scanning down the correct page, the name is badly printed and the sequence number helps the reader find the item. The program also destroyed the links in Lloyd's List. The same and (identically named different vessels) may appear 20 or 30, or more times in the same volume of LL, but only one of the items is actually the relevant news item. Because the indexes are based on OCR work, they often miss items. I have made a number of links over the years by finding not the vessel I was looking for, but her captor, or prey, or convoy mate. I am so relieved! But not as much as you, I warrant. Yes, reFill works well on run of the mill cite web and newspaper, etc. Which is the majority of the current cites, as they are copyrighted. I've never worked on an article that referenced old public domain books, like you are using. I do like to WikiGnome, so I will be pleased to copy edit when I am reading. I noticed the edit on Irlam (1813). I haven't reverted as it was fine. Am I correct in surmising that you are figuring out how to make reFill work on things like Lloyd's List and Lloyd's Register? If so, good luck with your efforts. Unfortunately, I think some other articles I have worked on have undergone reFill some time ago and I just took it for granted there was no problem and did not check. No, I have not discovered a way for reFill to work on these pages. I may copy some refs into my sandbox, and try a thing or two. But I don't think there's enough info in the cite address for reFill to "grab". Do you have a list of articles? I would be willing to help check them. As an exercise, I hunted for #5877 in the Lloyd's book and found it! How do you get the abbreviation for "number" to print in such a stylish manner? It is that extra touch of class! Unfortunately I have no list of articles. At the time I just noticed the reFill change and thought "Not necessary, but OK", and drove on. As for №, it's a symbol in the list of symbols. When I edit I have the symbols at the top of the editing pane, and the Latin menu at the bottom. The list of symbols has a number of to me useful symbols such as the symbols for the pound sterling, and fractions. The Latin list has French variants. Between the two I lack for naught. I changed his birthday to May 22, 1956. I got that information from his tweets. It's obvious it's his birthday. And the year I got from articles citing him as being 61 yrs old. @Pairunoyd: Sorry for the delay in responding to you. Mr. Israel's article is a biography, so per WP:BLP any information added must be verified WP:V by a reliable source WP:RS. (Also note that WP:V and WP:RS apply to all articles.) So, we can't add this info because Twitter is not a reliable source. The birthdate you added may be TRUE, but WP requires that it be Verified. I hope that helps. If you are just starting out at Wikipedia, there is a lot to learn, and I'm sorry to throw the "alphabet soup" at you, but it's the best way to understand the policies. I was thinking the same thing. Or perhaps a "meat puppet". Since they zeroed in on the marijuana paragraph, and tried to disguise the removal with an edit summary of "a small edit". The IP geo locates to NYC, NY. Does,that give you any clues? Frankly, I don't see the problem with this particular information. But I "grew up" in the 1970s in the USA. Smoking the occasional joint was not uncommon then, and I would not disparage someone for doing so...particularly in the hell-hole of Vietnam when Laurence was there. O & O's walls-of-text at ANI seemed rather hysterical to me. I'm glad you have been able to return to editing JL's article without interference. We'll see what happens. Thanks, I really don't know the difference between sock and meat puppets as I've been fortunate enough to not have to deal with them much before. Yes I checked the geolocate of the IP, which only added to my suspicions so I have gone ahead and opened the SPI and asked for a checkuser. Mztsouris launched the "John Laurence" page with three paragraphs based on Laurence's award-winning 850 page memoir: "The Cat from Hue: a Vietnam War Story." Those paragraphs were: 1) a disparaging comment about his drug use at a Saigon hangout for reporters; 2) a false claim that Laurence's reporting became "more cynical" as the war went on; and 3) his reporting of the killing of allied soldiers caused "outrage" when broadcast, making it seem as though there was something wrong with the report. What else to conclude than Mztsouris's motive was to defame Laurence's reputation? Otherwise, why not say something decent about the man and his book instead of writing three negative paragraphs? All of the copy about Laurence's achievements as a network television reporter, a documentary filmmaker and author were added by Onward&Upward. The BBC wanted to get some shots of me playing with a couple of bands (very local, Northern New Mexico village stuff) so we set up a bash in the library park and they arrived half way through. Carptrash Thanks for the links. I have not read them all throughly, but the "Wired" article, really spoke to me. Despite my own lack of "formal credentials", I hope that I have something to offer WP, even if it's only wikignoming. This is a major strength of WP...harnessing the abilities of intelligent people, without requiring "proof" of credentials. An amateur, in the original/best sense of the word, can benefit others through their specialized knowledge, as you have done for a number of years. Kudos! and thanks!

As a native of NC, I have lived here, or in SC, all of my life. I grew up listening to people talk like Billy Bob, particularly my paternal grandmother. She was born in 1898, and used to amaze us with her stories of hitching up the horses to a wagon, so that her father could deliver pottery (butter) churns to the train depot. She played both the piano and the banjo, which we viewed as an exotic instrument in my childhood.

Curly apostrophes

Hi TT,

I added a few hundred titles to your sandbox. Note however that some of these have other problems than just a curly apostrophe, so some care is needed. A few don't even match what's in the article, others have other formatting or wording issues. For example, there are a number of articles on Belarus that were translated from Belarussian or Russian, and the titles are not in colloquial English. (Many of these can be spotted by the en dash in place of a 'be' verb after the bolded phrase in the first line, or there is a 'be' verb but they forgot to remove the dash.) An example is Skvortsov_doctor’s_house (which I'm pasting here rather than in your sandbox). In the original, 'doctors' is in the plural, and I don't know what it actually means. There are other cases where a title has "-'s" but probably shouldn't. In some cases I've just deleted it, in others changed "X's" to "of X", etc. Another common problem is titles being capitalized throughout, despite being descriptive phrases rather than proper names.

Hi Tribe of Tiger. Do you realize that WP:MEDMOS2020 has a corresponding arbitration and sanctions, WP:ARBMED? I believe editors have been rather cautious on what edits they make on the topic since the arbitration closed. Have you reviewed the past discussions, or noticed how the editing has been going since? Hello Hipal/Ronz, I followed the Arbcom case, and then read the entire MEDMOS2020 RfC, which took considerable time. Have also followed some of the editing. If you will review all of the edits I made at Tranexamic acid, you will, please, note that I copied this stmt from the body of the article. (I did not write it, or "add" it to the article myself). The stmt is still located under "Society and culture".

As it had a supporting secondary source, (a good one, I believed) I thought it might be okay to substitute it for the primary sourced prices, which I had removed from the lede. However, as you have voiced an objection, I wiil remove the stmt from the lede, ASAP. I will also add a subheading under S&C, labeled "Cost". Hope that is okay. I will add the section in a separate edit, which you can "undo", I think, without risking sanction, as it would be a minor copyedit revert.

Earlier, you pointed out my mistake at the Bates method article, see previous talk post. I really appreciate your willingness to engage with me, by pointing out any errors I have made, including this new one at TA. I am very willing to learn from my mistakes, and I am grateful to you for your willingness to "teach me" by offering correction. (This senior-citizen "old dog" is willing to learn new tricks!) My take on dealing with costs of the form "inexpensive", "expensive", etc:

• It doesn't belong in the lede unless highly noteworthy.
• It needs to be qualified with the year, location, and other such factors.
• The quality of references for such information should be very high.

There are many hundreds of articles with problematic medical pricing content. Until there is a coordinated cleanup effort, any cost-related content currently in an article needs at least some careful review. Hipal/Ronz Yes, the "reading through" was a mind-expanding and mind-blowing learning experience! Per your comments above, I now know that we are in agreement on all three counts. I have been doing my best to fly under the radar, while working through the 500 plus list. And I "tell you true" that TA was the only article to which I added (any, or any already stated) price info into the lede. I will Not Do That again. Prior to the TA article, I had aways deleted, only. And per the prior recommendations I received, I have provided the good edit summary.

I have noticed that (at least two) other editors are of the same mind, because they had already done the deed, before I arrived at a listed article. One of the editors was informed (by a third party) of my intention to "gnome", and the other has, no doubt, noticed my activities. So, I think there is a "coordinated cleanup effort", but it has not been formally declared, for good reason.

Hi noticed this note when you made the last edit to GWAR. I can't find anything about reFill 2 when I googled it - well, actually, I did find some things but not anything about what it is and how to use it. I have added references before I had an account, but I always just used "ref" and "/ref" and put a URL in between, because I didn't know how to get all fancy. in loco parenti I am not very tech savvy, and type like a turtle, one finger mostly, two when I am in fine fettle (some physical problems). So, using reFill is marvelous!!

Anyway, at the top of each of each article, is a Page tab. Click here, choose Tools, and then Expand bare references. Then wait a bit. Once Success! pops up, press Preview/save, which takes you back to your page, where you can preview the changes, which are shown in the right column. Save the changes/publish, as usual, and you are good to go! It is very satisfying to see those dreadful bare urls turn into lovely formatted citations!

Okay, my friend, the situation at Gwar looks weird to me, too. But I tell you true that "our" cause is a lost cause. Hoary would have checked the situation over before commenting. (I asked for additional help at the Teahouse, that is why he came to have a look.) I am sorry that NJZ may not have been friendly/kind/welcoming, but please, do not pursue this any further. Tilting at the monstrous WP windmill...will not work out well. From my standpoint of 4 plus years, I am giving you good advice. I suspect that you have a lot to offer, if you wish to do so, by continuing to edit. But WP has an enormous amt of strange and arcane rules, like the rest of the world, sigh.

In the meantime, I think the GWARbar argument needs more people to weigh in because so far there are only 4 people that have offered an opinion. I would like to find out if there are more lists I can add the request for comment page to, and how to add it. I did ask about this at the Request for Comment talk page, but I do not know how often people read that, it looks like the date stamps on posts show that not too many people comment there. So, after I posted this I think I found it. I added "media" inside the RFC "template" as a new topic area. That seems to have worked. You are right about the "strange and arcane rules". in loco parenti, have a look at the Gwar article, and the section name. It has been that way since I changed it. With all the arguing on the talk page, it went unnoticed. Don't say anything about it, and it will probably stay that way, ESPECIALLY if you refrain from making any edit to the article or talkpage in the near future.

At the top of each article is a little star. If you press it, it puts the article/talkpage on your Watchlist, so most likely NJZ has a watch on Gwar, as do I, any changes made now will draw attention.....Not sure what to say about your posts at Wikiprojects, since we have what we want for now. Suggest a wait and see mindset. Also, WP does have a sense of humor, and this short humorous essay makes some good observations, that apply here. Please read it! WP:STICK. Somehow I can't get it to make a footnote. Could you please help? Its probably child's play for you. There is so much that is false in this article, that 95% of it should be deleted. I am shocked that there is only 1 reference, even that reference (Ebel) does not accurately reflect the source. @Hroberth Dunbar::I think I have fixed the problem. When you add a inline citation, you Must enclose it with the ref tags. They are helpfully supplied for use just below the "typing panel" that we use to edit. Just click the spot in your article, click on the ref tags:...<ref></ref> ... and then insert your cite btw the tags,... <ref>Insert here</ref>...

Does that help? I am going to post some helpful info on your talk, for future reference.

Another thought. This article was started in 2006, when some of the present rules may not have been in place.

@Tribe of Tiger::I made some edits to the first paragraph of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lübeck_law and corrected some catastrophic errors and added references. One question, the Cordes reference didn't go by page numbers but column numbers (2 per page); a German proclivity. I tried replacing "pages" with "columns" but it was not accepted. Can you think of a solution? I could put "(columns)" after the numbers?

IMAGE: Any image posted on ANY Wikipedia site, was First uploaded into WP:COMMONS. So, you can use them, no problem! I have added the image. Now, you will see, under the image is a caption. We can change this, to a better description, if desired. After adding the image, I revised the caption from "Bardewik Codex 1" to the longer description found in Commons, "The "Bardewik Codex" of Lübeck Law, written in 1294". As you can see, the longer caption allows us to highlight the relationship between an old (and beautiful) manuscript page, and its relationship to Lubeck Law. Hope this helps.

I tried searching for relevant policies, but it seems like WP:ACCUSE does not refer to this. He also claimed to be writing a letter of complaint to the Found., which makes no sense, but seeing such legal (is it legal? it sound like one) threat, I think we must keep an eye on what he will be doing. Dear Tribe of Tiger I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all your wonderful edits of my article especially because in classical music there has long been a divide between White Cisgender males and everyone else. My intention is to continue to bring articles of incredibly successful composers of color such as Rodriguez but there has been a blatant rejection and racial discrimination against composers and musicians of color negating or diminishing their achievemenst. When it comes to composers and musicians of color, females, non cisgender, and non heteronormative, they are all held to different standards with the intention to maintain a "justifiable" White Frame against any type of change. I plan to add to wikipedia a lot of incredibly successful composers of color that have been neglected by the WP:Composers: standards, as those standards are associated to an industry that will inherently negate and discriminate against anything not male and not white and not heteronormative.

If possible I ask of your help to approve my articles because these composers lives and incredible achievments deserve to be recorded.

MahlerLover, Thanks so much, for your kind words, I do not think that I did very much of anything to deserve them! My perception is that EN-WP is very accepting and welcoming of the sort of people that the outside world labels as "different". As long as an editor can provide proper sources, etc., for a composer/artist, the article subject's skin color, sexual preference, gender, etc. are certainly not an issue! I think this is a strength of WP, we make judgements on the sources only, read the secondary sources, and base our articles upon them. I will try to watch for your contributions, and help, if I can. So, this subject has a long list of credits as a producer and is famous in the experimental and commercial animation world. Otherwise, he's published/curated a big animated film collection, and edited a book. I wasn't 100% sure how to format the published section and am wondering if I should continue adding credits. @Canberranone: I have great respect for the manner in which these people relate to their environment. However, saying that they "help to look after country" is grammatically incorrect. So, I changed it to "they help to look after the countryside", which is grammatically correct. Now that you have provided this link, I will try to add to the sentence/statement, to make it clear that their cultural view of "country" has a deeper meaning. Given their cultural views, "country" is an unusual terminology that needs to be defined, as it can be confused with a nation/state, or just a parcel of land. In the context of this article, it refers not only to a physical region, but also to an environment, with cultural and spiritual meanings. Give me a day or two...I believe that this additional meaning is very important to add to the article. Thanks so much for your comment, and this information.

@Canberranone: I live in the US, so from my standpoint, I saw a grammar problem. Plus, I did not know about the indigenous viewpoint regarding the word "Country". So very many of us, worldwide, "speak English", but each country has phrases, etc., that are understood in our own country, but do not make sense to others. So, we help each other! This is a wonderful way to promote understanding across the thousands of miles that separate us! I would really like to work on rewording this, as a mark of respect, so the importance is clear to non-Australians. Then you can provide corrections, etc...a collaborative project! Education in Iran - ratio

Hello! I reverted your edit on Education in Iran that changed 1.22:1 to 1:22. The reason is that the female to male ratio as stated in the source is 1.22. This means that for every 1 male student, there are 1.22 female students (on average). This is the highest in the world - females outnumber males. Changing this to 1:22 would mean for every 22 male students, there is 1 female. Females definitely would not outnumber males if it was this. If you look at the edit summary, you will see that my old eyes misread the info: "per source. 1:22, not 1:22.1, which doesn’t make sense.Probably a typographical error". @Tribe of Tiger: Yes your edit summary did seem odd. This article needs more of a cleanup as in my opinion the style doesn't fit the classic Wikipedia trademark style of article writing. I may work on it. For example, are Press TV (described as regime propaganda by some) and Tehran Times (also linked with the state) reliable sources? The statistic is actually repeated as the ninth bullet point in the "Statistics" section. I don't know if there is a Wikipedia guideline about repeated info but we could probably do without one of them. Hi TT!

There's a Youtube series "Periodic Table of Videos" that's fun. Not a lot of info on any one element (and not always accurate), but there are 118 videos if you're bored!

I know thorium and uranium occur as ores. I think they're the only ones. (And they're more common than silver or mercury.) Radium I think is only a decay product (mostly?) from uranium. (Actually, almost all helium on Earth is a decay product.) Most other elements up to plutonium are present in trace amounts. (I know thorium is because ThO2 is used for crucibles to smelt platinum, so it has to be common enough to be relatively inexpensive. Thorium contamination of low-grade platinum (from the crucible) might be the reason the original cold fusion experiment got the results it did -- the thorium impurity might have seeded a fusion reaction. When the experiment was replicated, they spent extra for chemical-grade platinum, so there was no radioactive impurity, and they couldn't replicate the results and dismissed the original claim as bogus. So the US patent office gives cold fusion as an example of something that can't be patented because it's inherently impossible, like perpetual motion, but the US dept of energy continues to investigate it because further experimentation suggests there is something to it after all (though they're careful not to call it 'cold fusion'). Another cautionary tale, if one is needed, that you should only change one variable at a time in an experiment.)

@Kwamikagami: Per your cautionary tale...Fortunately, I was already familiar with the "one variable at a time" concept, when many years ago, I began to "hand dye" fabric on a semi-pro basis. Customers provided color samples of the commercial garments, for the upcoming season's clothing, and I would have to discover the proper combination of dyes, to closely match the colors, in order to produce silk fabric to make scarves, etc. to coordinate with the season's colors. I kept copious notes, regarding time, tempurature, assistant chemicals, but most importantly, the exact grams of each dye color (synthetic acid dyes), per weight of the fabric. Then, I would tinker with the samples, adjusting each dye color, in a sequential and individual manner, until I acheived the desired result. Eventually, my "eye" learned how to evaluate a specific color, and the experimentation period was much shorter. There were many variables to consider and adjust for, including the "type" of silk fabric. In view of your note above, if I had dyed in an aluminum vessel, versus an inert stainless steel vessel, it would have affected the results. Small potatoes, compared to "real scientists", but the same principles. I do know that people who dye, using "natural dyes" take advantage of the composition of the vessel. I find it amazing that the physicists who claimed they replicated the cold fusion experiment weren't that careful, when the stakes were so high (an end to global warming?). The fact that the USDE still hasn't gotten any results more than jusst encouraging suggests that cold fusion, if it exists at all, won't be an easy fix. @Kwamikagami:, I agree with your stmt concerning lack of care. As I stated above, even "very minor people" understand that small variations can affect an experiment, and the outcome. And, per my example (iron vessels, versus..... etc.), this has been recognized by logical minds for many (hundreds) of years. I don't know much about this field, and I dislike considering a conspiracy-type train of thought. But important and powerful people have, I think, a stake in promoting "fossil fuel", vs environmentally clean energy. A bit lost and concerned, but thanks. I don't think there's any conspiracy here, just sloppy debunking and people annoyed at self-promotion through the media (of the original experiment) rather than going through peer-review. Motive and dowry

Section I saw there in Talk:Kerala snakebite murder, but I dont know whether do we need to go that details about a case that is not yet proved by police and still running in court. But as per the news and all its very clear he done murder for the money and gold. There are some questions in mind, as per the custom that follows here, after death of the bride usually people used to return the money and gold back to parents of bride. If there is a kid (Son or daughter) who is taken care by the husband then the parents will not ask the assets back. So its not 100% clear what is his exact motive and all. Thank you for the information regarding Indian customs, which is very helpful to your “Western Culture” wiki friend. Some of the sources in the article state that their child, a 1 year old son, is in the care of Uthra’s parents.

I trust and agree with your judgment, that we should wait to add further details, as the murder case is still in process in the courts. From what you are saying, I think that if a wife dies in childbirth, or through some other natural occurrence, like a normal snakebite, then her assets/dowry, would be retained by the husband, to be used to support the child, send them to school, etc. Or, at least, this is what “should” be done?

I just read from you on the talk page: I think it is both useful and important to divide her life and her career. That was I doing. Her getting her US citizenship and her opinion on WW2 has nothing to do with Casablanca, or I don't get it.

I think only her affair with the Italian director and the American politician presenting his apology are the only times where her career is affected by her personal life.

Filmman3000Although I perceive you as a decent person, and a good editor, I am very concerned that you have it wrong, and "don't get it", as you said. Yes, perhaps some people may not realize how important Bergman's personal views on Nazis and Weirmar Germany were. Perhaps her views may not have been well-known at the time, but for those of us, who are the children of people who lived through, and fought in that terrible war, Bergman's thoughts (and their perceived recognition through her movies) are very important. This is not a separate thing from her wartime movie (Casablanca). It was an important part of her life, which is absolutely connected to her Hollywood career. Although this film was made much later, you may be familiar with Cabaret (1972 film), a 1972 film. Made @30 years after Casablanca, it was still a moving and timely film. Now, in present time, please go back through a few hundred edits , and you will see that several of us have been carefully and respectfully working our way through editing this article. Making small changes, working in a cooperative way, respecting not only this wonderful actress, but appreciating each other as editors. Bergman's career spanned @47 years, and it seems disjointed to separate her personal life from her life's work. The decades of her acting life and her personal life are all of a piece. Connected. Your comment at the talk page seems reasonable. The current owners do seem to prefer Cottrill's [1] but that's not necessarily the standard. Other sources use Cottrill, according to a quick Google search. There seems to be a plaque on the building, but it's not quite big enough to read, even if I enlarge the photo. I'm not sure of the best answer in this case. Sometimes there's more than one WP:COMMONNAME and it's just a question what most editors think is best. Station1 (talk) 06:39, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

Hu Nhu, Yes, I saw that you had done magnificent work on New Albion, and that your GA reviewer was quite thorough. This process resulted in a very "good article" indeed! We are run by a team of volunteers, but have a look at your GA review, vs the review at San Francisco Bay Area. I think your review was more rigorous, which resulted in a high quality article. I do not have experience with GA and FA, but by comparing the New Albion GA process against the San Francisco Bay Area process, it appears that New Albion has met a high standard. I wish you the best of success, if you try for the FA standard.

WP is a complicated place, but archiving is pretty easy...if one knows how to do it. I will post a short primer on your talk. You will then understand that I do not deserve great praise. @Rahulsoman: I am sorry that I cannot understand the concept or importance of your work. I believe you once mentioned the possible importance of Timothy D. Lash's work, in regards to cancer. After my cancer diagnosis in August 2014, I was fortunate to have a good surgeon and oncologist, plus many others who cared for me. It seems that hundreds, perhaps thousands of worthy scientists contributed to the level of care that saved me. So I have great respect for the scientists, like you, who make discoveries that may benefit our world, in some manner.

If I am feeling sad, I visit your talkpage, and read the many conversations we have had, beginning at the end of August. It always makes me happy. I Alway Know that you may be busy with your family and your work, so if it takes a few months for a reply, I am not concerned. You have important responsibilities and work! Sad to say that things are getting worse in the US, in regards to COVID-19. Many hospitals are 90% full, and some have to send patients hundreds of miles away, to another hospital. High numbers of people are testing positive, and also dying. Millions of people still do not have jobs and children are not in school. I am so glad things are becoming more normal for you! Still, you must be careful, I think.

I think/hope I am okay with the cancer, it has been approximately six years. My next annual test is in January. It seems that your research and patent are a "discovery", and you have added to knowledge. MarnetteD Where does the time go? This reminds me of hourglasses. I just read today that in order to build an award-winning sandcastle, the best ratio of sand to water is 8:1. Something to do with capillary action. I suppose we can build sandcastles, while socially distancing. A bit of humor in dreadful circumstances.

I am quite honored that you chose to read my user page, and that you liked my poem. It was written in response to the section on my tp entitled "Reverting my edits ". The edit I reverted had no edit summary and removed sourced info from the lead, which was no longer covered in the text body. (It had been added years earlier.) As a new, law-abiding, by-the-book editor I was appalled and intimidated. Rather than engage with such a person, I wrote and saved this "poem". Your wise "haiku" speaks to the same sort of situation. Over time, I may have retained some stars, but chose to skip over them, in favor of my mental and WP health. I don't edit contentious topics, but losing a source/reference is my bete noire. Grrr!

You may have seen Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. In a final, pivotal scene, "Indiana" Jones, Jr. is reaching for the Holy Grail. His father, Jones Sr. is grasping his son's arm, and preventing Indiana from falling to his death. Jones Sr. says "Let it go". Wise words, encompassed by your "haiku". Being on an iPad might explain it, but if you look at Special:Diff/1004916949 you'll see that there was a line break between the | and "FBI". Wiki code is (fortunately) smart enough to recognize that all of that text is still inside of one wikilink, but it makes for messy code (and could break depending on how it's edited in the future). Not sure what would cause it, but as long as you're checking your changes and there are no weird spaces, you should be good. Primefac (talk) 13:01, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Primefac, ah ha, the "pipe" was followed by an unnecessary space, and that caused the line break. Our smart wiki code caused the article to look okay, but we were still left with "messy code", which could cause future problems. The only problem with the iPad is that the text is pretty tiny, versus my desk monitor...more difficult to spot a minuscule space! Fairly certain I accidentally added the space but didn't notice. Hello again Tribe of Tiger. I hope all is well with you. Very clumsy of me to not sign a post and most gracious of you to simply take a look. I've much going on--life happens and right now much of what is happening is good. Chalk paint can work very well to repair furniture, and there are many fine YouTube videos on the matter. I am of course very happy to answer questions and give advice, too. My woodworking projects have been varied-chests, pub table, cutting boards, and a cradle. Jaguar article

I have just noticed that you replaced the Wikipedia Featured picture in the infobox with a very low quality image on 7 February 2021. Please do not do this again. I have reverted your edit. Charlesjsharp, The image in my edit was, in fact, the original image when the article was Featured Article on Sept. 24, 2006 (promoted Sept. 11, 2006) You can confirm by reading the yellow box on the talkpage.

Also, on the TP, you will note (#10) that there was conversation & comparison of several images, and consensus supported the use of the original image. This was, in fact, the "proper procedure" for choosing the image.

A FA is Not Required to be illustrated by a FP. Likewise, a normal article may display a Featured Picture. A FP is a beautiful photograph, and this is true of the image you used when you reverted. However, it may not be the best image to illustrate the subject of an article. This is why several editors agreed with me that the original image showed the actual "Jaguar" to best effect. Hence, your edit has been reverted by another editor.

In future, consider reviewing the TP prior to making changes, and admonishing editors. FA and FP are "different animals"! Tribe of Tiger ^{Let's Purrfect!} 03:07, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Circumcision

Well dad wasn't, but as far as I know the doctor(s) didn't ask anyone if they only wanted to remove enough that it can retract, they definitely didn't ask me or I would've said just do that so it's more natural-looking (I was too young to be assertive and ask) But circumcision isn't all bad, as foreskins are a double-edged sword. Sagittarian Milky Way, thanks for telling me this. So, your procedure was done for aesthetic reasons ("more natural-looking")? I am curious as to why your parents made this decision, your age, and the country, but this may be entirely too personal. I do realize that foreskins have pros and cons. The entire circumcision process makes me cringe. I wonder if there was an evolutionary advantage gained by having a foreskin, or if this one of the oddities of human anatomy. It was likely done cause I couldn't get the flacid little boy incarnation even close to retracting fully by hand so they assumed without proof that the future pubescent incarnation of the organ couldn't get erect without pain, but they could've waited to be sure and even if they were right they didn't have to remove the whole damn thing, they could've just removed the minimum percent needed for the glans to fit so it looked more natural but they didn't even ask. Sagittarian Milky Way, Okay, I did some research and I think your childhood "condition" was Phimosis. The lede plainly states "99% of cases resolve by age 18". This article also describes a number of less drastic treatment options, both non-surgical and surgical, if age does not resolve the problem. Even the surgical treatments have a range...as you mentioned before, it wasn't necessary "to remove the whole damn thing".

This WP article is of interest. Even if you don't read the whole article, you may be interested in these two references, regarding one man's experiences.

This article/reference has fascinating info regarding the medical uses of harvested foreskin and the lucrative products that it can yield. It says that one foreskin can be lab-grown to the size of a "football field". Naturally, the patient doesn't receive any of the financial largesse.

PatLurcock, it hasn't gone live, because I lost my nerve, fearing NPP or AFC. I've never written an article from scratch, although I have "worked" on many others, through the years. See Gerald Bonner, Nigel's brother, where I learned a great deal, working there. Now that you have contacted me, I am inspired to cleanup and finish! I'm old, slow & working on a tablet, because I can't sit. Of course, I don't own this draft (of course), but pls give me a week or so? There's a very nice admin, Nick Moyes, who has provided encouragement re: the Nigel Bonner article, so now I have two editors who can have a look!

Thanks for your kind words. I copied the table from another article listing US congressional medals, and someone else stepped in and did the merged first cell thing for the years. I was not aware of NPP and AFC, but have just looked them up. Wikipedia is a nice friendly supportive space for those genuinely trying to contribute, so there is no need to be fearful! Your article looks good from this amateur's point of view so I would encourage you to go ahead and publish. If there are any issues that someone identifies then we can address them and make the article great. Indeed, I have often found that when I go back to tidy up a hurriedly started page, someone else has already improved it. Then I can point a buddy who knew Nigel and lots about him to have a look at it. I'll make any changes that he comes up with.

When too many people work on a text !

Hi Tribe of Tiger,

it is more than three years that we talked here. Maybe you remember me? You and Curtle had re-written and deleted a lot of my original text! I had been criticized for my English (not by you), because I had been so daft to admit it was not my mother tongue!

I was able to accept that, but what I cannot accept now is how other people destroyed and added in really 'awful English' what they thought was missing. I am pretty sure to know who did it, there are certain entries which betray this people. I do not want to argue with them, they probably thought it just "needed them" to finish that page for which I had done so much hard work. Like making sure there was the image of that TV-series and so on...

However, I would appreciate it very much if you or someone else would find the time, to go over that page again! As I was able to read on the History page, I do not seem to be the only person who complained about the 'confusing^' entries. here the link to that wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_(1986_TV_series)

Hu Nhu, no chalk painting in sight. I had foot surgery in May was cleared to walk more on July 13.Then had a stroke July. 14. Rahulsoman Hello, dear friend! I think my physical health is better, (my arm works again) but this event has caused my mental and editing energy to slow down rather drastically. I don't think I will get back to editing WP regularly until after the New Year. Yes, you can change your username and still keep your same "account" so all your articles, contributions, etc will still be "attached" to your new name. Look here WP:RENAME and see if this helps. Here's an easier page WP:CHUS, look here first.

Hi! Ages ago, you mentioned to me that if I was ever in need of a WikiGnome, to let you know. I came across an article that could use a little help. Principality of Tarragona was created by a fairly new editor earlier this year. They did a great job, and I've since cleaned it up a bit, but one issue remains. As you can see, a lot of the article is sourced to two journal pieces by Lawrence McCrank. However, the reference is duplicated each time a new page number is used rather than being set up as a source with repeated notes for each page #. I'm not very good at handling references, so I'm mentioning it in case you are interested and have any spare time. Its very funny you did that, because I noticed you linked to articles on your user page, and I was going to ask you about it, but didn't get around to it or begged off. I'm flattered you're interested, so I'm in the process of linking right now, but there's a problem. Is there a way make the link so that the name of the film stays in italics, but the qualifier (19XX film) stays in plain text, like at the top of the page if said article? I was flattered by your three recent thank you's; do those manifest themselves somewhere else, or are those small notices all there is? They don't really explain what you're thinking, or put them in context. @Pete Best Beatles:. Thank you. Yes, the thanks is "all there is", so to speak. It's a quick way to give appreciation, approbation, agreement, etc. If first editor (ToT, that's me) makes an edit and the next editor (PBB, that's you) changes it and the first editor (ToT) says "thanks", it means...Yes, my fellow editor, I agree with your changes. Or...I made an error/poor choice/mistake, thanks for correcting. Or... I'm not certain, but I bow to your judgment. So "Thanks" while not specific, is a positive affirmation! Now, I am no longer physically able to type on my desktop computer, and work by tippy-typing on a tablet, which is very slow. So, the thanks button is a simple way to say "Yes!" But, many editors are very busy, and WP:THANKYOU is a marvelous way to appreciate our fellow editors and their contributions. Six more (making seven total) seems like a lot, but I'm not objective enough to see any that should be cut - I like them, that's why I put them there. I had to do that to wrest what I wanted out the source material, but it looks cluttered and I might be accused of altering the narrative to fit my own ends. Regarding the Episode summaries, I just had the most distressing thing happen only moments ago. I wrote the summary for Episode 3 yesterday, and did Episodes 4 and 5 tonight. I know they're short, but I put some work into them to make them tight and concise. I watch each 45 minute episode, taking notes, and I watched them a second time to clarify some minor points (the streaming service Hulu or my TV wouldn't let me use the playback feature). The I condensed my notes, and double-checked the linking situation on lots of words, and on a couple of disambiguation situations. When I submitted the second one, I got an edit conflict warning. Apparently, someone was writing synopsis of episode 6 while I was too, and they posted it before me. To make matters worse, it looks like they erased my episode 5 summary totally, and I don't know if it got saved or not. I was rather fond of them...I left a message on the editor's talk page asking if we could merge the different versions (something the edit warning mentions), but I'm sad. (Place in a Retrospective review section). PPS: I looked at the article this morning; I don't know if it was before or after I left a message on their talk page, but the editor did use some of my language (more for one episode than another), so all is well and I'm satisfied. I made a few changes, and briefly mentioned them on the article's talk page, and elaborated on the editor's talk page. The editor left my summary of Episode #6 intact, although by design or by fault I'm not sure. (I didn't bring it up.) I did not rmv because I thought the sources were unreliable, I rmved because they don't support the text! I suppose I should have said "remove unsupported statements", sources fail in every way to support the text." This longer edit summary seems a bit redundant, but I am absolutely willing to be extremely specific, in future, if you so advise.

The question, "In any case, are you saying that didn't happen?", seems unfairly accusatory. I have not denied making the edit, and certainly have not said "it didn't happen"! I stand my my good faith edit.

Now that you have reverted my edit, I ask you to please read the two sources. I made the edit after reading the sources and have reviewed them again today, both original and archives. I am still unable to find support for the statements. Perhaps you are seeing something I missed?

On a more friendly note, I first saw your name, (in an article editorial sense), years ago at Bhimbetka rock shelters, where you were holding the line. @Doug Weller, my apologies, I obviously have not understood your question. Perhaps I should say that what was described in the text, was not mentioned in the sources? As a both reader/editor, I am unable to confirm that the events happened, as the sources speak of other matters, but not these particular events. So, I am confounded, by the article text.

My own experience with chemo & radiation occurred in NC, (fall through spring), mild weather, but not very cold. I know that being both hot & nauseous is absolutely miserable. A suggestion...if you have access to "cold packs" (the soft, squishy ones, preferably) that are stored in the freezer, and used to place on sore knees, etc. wrap them in a linen tea towel (to protect your skin from damage) & place on your chest, below the clavicle area. May also be helpful at the back of your neck. Years later, I still use cold packs to help cool down & often sleep with them. (My personal thermostat has been wonky, since cancer.)

@Doug Weller Given that your brother attended Duke, it's possible that my 67 yr old husband (and I) have some Six degrees of separation connections to you. He has worked at Duke OESO (Occupational and Environmental Safety Office) since the early 1990s, and met many "Duke" people, (some a decade or so older). So we may be within six degrees of each other.

I've not visited Yancey County, but have been up/down/over the TN/NC border, and up into the VA/TN area, over the decades. North of Yancey County is Watauga County. Fond memories of hiking on Grandfather Mountain, visiting Moses H. Cone Park...and riding the train at Tweetsie Railroad, as a child. I've traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway from mid-south NC up through Virginia, where it joins Skyline Drive and debouches at Front Royal, VA.

Yes I have. When my parents moved from Miami to Arlington because my father was working for the government, we did Skyline Drive and the Blueridge Parkway - in fact I've travelled all of it more than once. Grandfather Mountain, sigh. The worst thing that ever happened to my father was the loss of his older brother there. See Worth Hamilton Weller. It still upsets me. I've been there, crossed the swinging bridge despite my acrophobia.

I'm half way through chemo but feeling pretty good. Walking a mile a day - 4 days ago I struggled for 2.2 mph, the last two days at 2.7 and today at 2.8. But I think my drug levels will go up from 80% next time, so.... Doug Weller talk 07:25, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

@Doug Weller I am so sorry about WHW's death. A terrible and tragic personal loss for your father & family, and a loss to the future scientific community. At a very young age, he had already discovered two new salamanders! A highly intelligent, promising and intrepid young man. (Reading his article & connected ones, thanks.) I've hiked a few "trails of death", one misstep & you're down a cliff. Your uncle was, no doubt, chasing little creatures, to record them for posterity. A worthy goal. I regret his death.

On my honeymoon, the swinging bridge revealed to me that my husband had acrophobia, poor guy. We met another couple, while crossing. The "other husband" & I were gaily walking, but my husband & the other man's wife were exchanging words of commiseration, hanging onto the rails for dear life! By the time we made our return trip to the "safe" area, the winds were so powerful that we (two young, strong people) could barely walk upright. Had the winds been that strong, earlier, even my daredevil young female self would avoided the bridge!

So pleased with your progress, it's very impressive to walk a mile, at any speed, while undergoing chemo, (esp with lack of sleep and the heat). Doing so requires determination, dedication and will to survive. That's not easy. Drug level increase...I sincerely hope that this won't be too much more difficult for you. T-Men redux

With the addition of a new plot summary, T-Men is just about in the can, but I'd like your opinion on one small matter. Whoever wrote "Although the film was a success it led to a breach between Small and Eagle Lion, as Small was unhappy with the way his contribution to the film was minimized in its advertising" placed it in the Critical response section, but it obviously has nothing to do with criticism, whether from consumers, reviewers, or academicians. The only other places it could go would be in the lead or in the Production section. I had been laboring in b-movie obscurity, but I think all those views of the Pistol article went to my head and turned me into a click-bait whore! It's not necessary to ping on someone's talkpage, (we usually receive a notification that someone has posted on our personal talkpage) saves you some time! But your ping wouldn't have worked because you used [[ at the beginning, versus {{. There's a new feature. When you open the edit panel on talk pages, there's a little "person" icon with a plus sign. Click there and names are supplied, if the editor has already commented there. Click on desired name and all the brackets, etc are filled in, automatically, and a Ping is generated. This is helpful when you are conversing on an article talkpage, esp with multiple conversants! (You still have to sign your name) In addition, you could copy my ping {{ping|Tribe of Tiger}}, and save it in your Sandbox, for ease of copying for future use, if required. Saving a Ping will not alert people to your Sandbox, etc. The ping only works if you sign with the four ~~~~. When you mentioned "embrolio" I understood your meaning, but was puzzled by the spellcheck error. See [Embroglio] an alternate spelling for [Imbroglio]. Spellcheck couldn't parse the missing "G". I checked my 3.93 lb, 1991 era print dictionary, & then researched on WP, which connected me to Wiktionary...I do this fairly often, some good exercise, lifting the massive tome. I am heavy reliant on Predictive Text/Spell Check, because I edit on a tablet. If sitting at a desk computer (which I am no longer able to do) my ten fingers remember how to spell. But tippy-typing with one/two fingers is more difficult, as I've lost that subconscious spelling. Not sure if that makes sense. Thus the "tome" lifting. I am happy to assist with further questions. The preferred course of action is to ping me to the article's talkpage, so that other editors can read the conversation and understand the questions and resolution, versus traveling to my backwater TP...possibly a year or more in the future. If you have a question, please ask me on the article talkpage, as an aid to fellow editors. Please note that I'm not chastising, just informing. There have been past occasions when I moved a conversation from my personal talkpage to the article, to aid our new editors, who are very valuable, IMO. (How will they know if we don't tell them?) As for T-Men..here before you began and now. You have expanded the article in both the plot and the lede. Both of which were lacking, IMO. So, very well done! I'll have you know I contributed a lot more than just to the lead and Plot in the T-Men article! ((Insert winking emoji or typographic wink.)) I understand the need for transparency and community involvement, but I also understand my arguments are subjective and petulant. Maybe I could vent here, and then we can figure out what the best approach might be: I don't like the sentence "The film was identified as a b-movie in the 1992 documentary Visions of Light: The Art of Cinematography". Who cares? (If you go back to a previous version of the article, you'll see I trimmed it down from something incomprehensible). Films noir are often not identified as b-movies even when they are such. The only reason I see it might help the article is because I mention that it's a b-movie down below. Their use sounds disparaging to me, for some reason. I know we're not supposed to avoid a point of view, but I don't see any reason we can't respect our topics, either. To me the only way the addition of this information improves the article is if you somehow show that this fine movie is hitting above its weight class. B-movie adds nothing without context. And I'd like to see the actual reference and how it's phrased. B-movies have a storied reputation in film noir tradition, the movies are often better because of that characteristic, and there are in-between movies that were designed to be either a feature or a (literal) b-movie. Is a book about cinematography the best source for describing that aspect of a movie? The way it's phrased here makes the use of it sound significant and positive. (I think my sentence about it being a b-movie is sub-consciously or surreptitiously celebratory: the little film that could.) And why is the reference made explicit in the article like that; the details should be down below. I want to make an observation that doesn't really impact my arguments, but it might explain some of my problems with this sentence: it seems to me that the person who created the stub just grabbed the most convenient bits of information they could find and just "threw them against the wall" to get something in the article. The comments had no context then, and with all my additions they are now out of context. I scoured the sources to get the best information, and what they put in wasn't it (I'm also referring to the other sentence we worked on, which was woefully out of context and/or out of place, if you'll remember). I just don't like it, but the rule "don't delete well-sourced material" is prohibiting me from acting drastically (I guess I address well-sourced above). Note: I was recently spanked for trying to shoehorn a word into a short description of an article without it being supported in the body of the article, and I was slapped around for the same thing in another article but for two different reasons by two different editors: "not the primary genre" and "made the short summary too cluttered". According to our B movie article, "In its post-Golden Age usage, there is ambiguity on both sides of the definition: on the one hand, the primary interest of many inexpensive exploitation films is prurient; on the other, many B movies display a high degree of craft and aesthetic ingenuity." It seems you consider the term to be pejorative. Others may feel differently. Two sides of a coin? You say: "And I'd like to see the actual reference and how it's phrased." I assume you mean the T-Men article's phrase: "The film was identified as a B movie...." Next you state: "Is a book about cinematography the best source for describing that aspect of a movie?". It seems that someone has gone and created a stub article for every film noir. That perfunctory plot synopsis you saw for T-Men? I now think that's par for the course: something to just get the article started and intended to be fleshed out by someone later (like me). Well, maybe the two comments I was unhappy with are analogous to that - facts chosen randomly just to get the references required for a new article. With that thought, I feel better about deleting sourced material, just as I happily deleted the entire plot summary when I made my own. Regarding B movies, I didn't mean to sound like I considered the term pejorative, I felt that the original editor's phrasing sounded somehow vaguely pejorative. As for my thoughts about the legitimacy of a piece on cinematography characterizing a film as a B movie, you don't characterize a film noir, you define it as such because the criteria is an objective one - with film noir a b-movie is defined by its budget or its placement on the bill, not its aesthetic (although its aesthetic might be influenced by its budget). If you appreciate the B-movieness of a film noir, you don't do so in a Mystery Science 3000 or John Waters way. There were feature films noir and "in-betweens"...being an objective B movie helped films noir: young (talented) directors were assigned to direct B movies, and they often brought their A-game (maybe that's where the phrase came from). And the standard procedure of the day was to bundle pictures, so exhibitors had to take the (literal) B movie if they wanted the feature. Thus there wasn't the same pressure to make a profit from the B movie, thus the studios didn't pay as much attention to them, thus the (creative) directors were able to express themselves more, push boundaries and come up with better and more innovative movies. As for mistaking Visions of Light for a book, I was going to point out that distinction wouldn't change my argument one whit, but it ultimately determined my final decision, in a roundabout way. I happen to have two books about cinematic lighting on my "to be procured and read in the near future" category, so I just subconsciously assumed that was a book. I had decided to reduce the troubling phrase to something like "this film has been characterized as a film noir" without mention of the source and stick it in the fuller paragraph above it. I wasn't totally happy with the decision, but it was a comprise. Right before I made the edit, I thought maybe I should hear the quote itself, so maybe watch the documentary myself. I checked on the reference to get the name right, then something made me investigate it more fully. It turns out that although the editor name-checked the documentary in the article, the reference itself was to the Allmovie review of the film, which doesn't even contain the phrase "B movie". The reference didn't support the information cited. Thus I changed my mind, and deleted the offending phrase entirely. I didn't argue the case on the merits, but decided on a technicality, like a judge ruling a case based on standing or jurisdiction and not the facts, although if I'm ready to make my case if I'm reverted, See, more cogent now. I never asked before, what about you? What is your typical area of editing? If you go to my (or anyones) User or Talk page, and click (over to the left side, on my particular "skin") you can see others recent contributions. For example, I haven't made an edit since July 6th. (Until July 14th). This lets you know that your friend is a bit offline, not ignoring you. I have been worried that you might feel that way, but no help, I had RL issues, no time to edit. Typing is slow for me, I had been reading your interesting text, but composing offline and I started a reply. Offline Reply, Begins...(this took several days to compose.... Much of my editing springs from my love of reading the sources. I tend to read WP a great deal, thus discovering problems. This leads me all over the place, which is rewarding. Many sources are not formatted properly, so I do repairs. WikiGnome work, very satisfying. On short articles, someone may have culled only one or two facts from a source and added to the article. My "discovery" is that by reading the sources, I can often add more information. They walked into a diamond mine, plucked one stone, called it good, and left other stones to be "discovered" by future editors. I call this "mining the source". The articles on my user page are not my "favorites" they represent what I consider to be my best work/contributions, at least since I kept track. I began editing in 2016, but didn't publish my first (and so far only) article until 2021. (I nervously vacillated for months!) I was determined to produce the type of article I love to read...complete with info box, images, good sources, etc. So when Nigel Bonner was moved to Mainspace, it was like Athena springing from the head of Zeus, (ha, ha!), as fully formed as possible! This is how it appeared at the time [[3]], and kind editors made minor additions, later. It was published on 9/9/2021. I was so pleased, and a DYK nomination was in the pipeline. Five days later, on 9/14/2021, in an utterly terrifying & unexpected turn of events, I had a stroke & was in hospital for 4 days. Took a few days to recover my ability to type, longer to return to editing & even now, my brain seems to move more slowly. I regret that I lack the typing energy/ability to converse with you fully, but my suggestion is to recognize that you have an interest in fleshing out some placeholder/stub articles. The only activity on your part I could see was the addition of the Signpost to your user page. I wasn't above looking at your contributions to check on your activity (although that seems a little stalky), and I have done that before in a slightly different context, but I forgot how to do it! I think you read the reply I was hoping you'd see: it's above, under "Reply". It starts "I got lucid!" I have to say, your sentence about "mining the source" is tres eloquent. As I remember, we met when you were trying to fix a reference in an article I had worked on. I actually can't remember which movie it was, or I was going to ask you how you stumbled upon that particular reference in that particular movie. Yes, the Production Code had much to say about movies' attitudes towards crime and much else, although it's rules changed over time, both formally and informally. It was a HUGE part of Hollywood and ran from 1934 to 1968. Screenplays had to be approved before movies could be shot, and after shot films had to be approved again. Comments on screenplays could run over 40 pages, dictating miniscule changes to the length of kisses, the number of shots in a shootout, etc., and macro changes in addition to those micro ones. Some say the movies were better for it, though. The pre-code days were a wild west of sex and violence, and adhering to the code meant topics like that had to be dealt with with more suggestion and nuance, elevating to tone of movies. (Regarding the pre-code world, I made an addition about it to the Barbara Stanwyck article [second paragraph, Film career section]. It doesn't look like much now, but at the time I was excited to be able to contribute on that topic.) But the code chafed film noir directors the most because those are the films that were pushing the boundaries concerning violence and sexuality. You could check out the article Motion Picture Production Code. Regarding "expert", I just started this new hobby about a year ago, and just started editing in mid-July. I wasn't even a cinephile when I discovered film noir, although I admit I've gone in whole hog. Any appearance of expertise is due to a skill that has been useful in my past: I talk a good game. Randon thought: maybe some of the negative connotations of the phrase B movie come from a subconscious internalization of some of the misogynistic overtones of the phrase B girl? Mentioning the Criterion Collection reminded me I was going to suggest that if you wanted to check out a film noir, T-Men would be a great choice: you know it's a good one from the article, and you know the fascinating backstory from the article too. Best of all, it's free. About 98% of all films noir are available free on the internet. Of the approximately 375 films noir I've seen since I started my hobby, I've only had to rent 2 or 3, and I was only totally shut out of one. How did cinema scholars do it back in the day? I just came up with a good one: in place of saying "noir" and "noir adjacent" for films noir and near noirs, I could say "canon" and "loose canon"! I want to tell you about my Wikipedia Cootie Adventure, but we should take it to e-mail. Although the tale involves Wikipedia, it's primary aim is not to improve Wikipedia, and I read an essay that said it would therefore be verboten. It explained that some Wiki-humor is allowed, but this would be more personal humor. @Tribe of Tiger: Regarding the Motion Picture Production Code and T-Men, as head of the Production Code office, Joseph Breen was arguably one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. He determined, if not morality, the depiction of morality in all of Hollywood's movies; that good must triumph over evil in the end and that authority and the police must not be disparaged being two salient rules here. That he went in with a major gangster to form a silent partnership to invest in this movie is mind-blowing to me. I had to hesitate from using the word "ironically" when I wrote about that (describe, don't prescribe). And that gangster, Joe Roselli! It was fun using the term "afficionado" to describe him, but really he was more. As I remember, he married a starlet, and as we know he invested in this movie. A gangster actively involved in film production, it sounds like the movie Get Shorty, or James Ellroy's depiction of the flamboyant LA mobsters Mickey Cohen and Johnny Stompanato. I wish I could have included the facts Roselli went on to be the Chicago Mob's main man in Las Vegas, and that he was the liaison between the CIA and the Mob in the plot to assassinate Fidel Castro (!!!), but I know it wouldn't have been appropriate for the article; that's what links are for, right? Then the double irony hits you: this movie, partially funded by organized crime, was endorsed by the US Government! The backstory to this movie is amazing. (As far as the info about Breen goes, I discovered it in only one place, a recent source. Hello there! My mother asked me whether Levolet is a trade name of Levofloxacin or not. I'm not well-versed in terms of medicine, so I'm asking you right this minute. I googled "trade names of Levofloxacin", and I opened medinda. com (or org. In a word, I don't remember exactly), so, according to the afore-mentioned site, Levolet is a trade name of Levofloxacin. I don't know whether medinda is a liable source. Could you recommend me a good source which deals with the trade names of Levofloxacin?

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Thank you, my friend! What a lovely Christmas card! Christmas was spent caring for my 90 yr old mother, while my brother & SIL stayed in a nice local hotel, had a break from their loving, but demanding 24/7 care of Mom. She has dementia, many health problems. I live 250 miles away, no longer drive.

A small tree, festively adorned with lights, was a reminder of past Christmas celebrations, and the joys we shared, when we were all younger and spry! Mom, my husband & I had a wonderful time! As did my dear brother & sweet SIL.

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
