Speedy deletion declined: User:VFIC123/AdamMiller[edit]

Hello Trijnstel. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User:VFIC123/AdamMiller, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: R2 does not cover redirects from userspace. Thank you. nancy 14:53, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, OK, didn't know that. I thought redirects from the userspace to the mainspace were not allowed. In that case several other nominations aren't right either. I will fix the double redirects than. Thanks for letting me know. Kind regards, Trijnstel (talk) 14:56, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. The cross-namespace redirects which are an issue are those from mainspace to elsewhere - although there are some exceptions even to that rule. Generally redirects from another namespace to mainspace are not problematic and seen sa harmless as a casual browser of the encyclopaedia is unlikely to stumble apon them; indeed userspace is littered with thousands of redirects to namespace simply due to articles being created in sandboxes and moved. The speedy criteria R2 is defined as :

Redirects, apart from shortcuts, from the main namespace to any other namespace except the Category:, Template:, Wikipedia:, Help: and Portal: namespaces.

Hope this helps, best, nancy 15:22, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that helps indeed. I'm an admin on nl.wikipedia and on that wiki are different rules. So it was a bit confusing for me. Again, thanks. Trijnstel (talk) 15:26, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of User:Enea puci declined[edit]

You nominated this as patent nonsense. In fact it is merely a user page that is written in the Albanian language, which is spoken by over 7 million people. Not being in English is explicitly not a reason for speedy deletion, as is indicated on the very tag you added to this page. If you find an article that is not in English you should mark it with {{notenglish}} and list it at Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English, but with a userpage there's really no point. Actually I don't believe the patent nonsense criteria was ever intended to apply to user pages at all, so even if it had been nonsense it still shouldn't have been deleted.

Some helpful tools if you see other pages that are not in English:

Hope this helps. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:14, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I know, but that (a page written in Albanian instead of English) was not the reason. I renominated it and added a more clear explanation. Trijnstel (talk) 19:16, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, "no meaningful content" is another criterion that was never intended to be used for user pages. Promotion/spam on the other hand is, but the rough translation [1] doesn't appear to be anything so bad we should be deleting it on sight. However I'll leave that for another admin to review. Beeblebrox (talk) 19:21, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Imo, enwiki has way too much deletion reasons and it's sometimes a bit confusing for me about which one I should use. Anyways, thanks for the help and I will wait for the second opinion. :-) Trijnstel (talk) 19:30, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Hi Trijnstel!

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! SarahStierch (talk) 03:38, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I will take a look at it. I know more female editors (on the Dutch Wikipedia, but also abroad) and I will approach them for this survey. Regards, Trijnstel (talk) 10:40, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I already answered it. Thanks Trijnstel :) Béria Lima msg 11:18, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Here are the results of it the survey. Regards, Trijnstel (talk) 18:34, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

December 2011[edit]

I noticed that you have posted comments to the page User talk:Wasbeer in a language other than English. When on the English-language Wikipedia, please always use English, no matter to whom you address your comments. This is so that comments may be comprehensible to the community at large. If the use of another language is unavoidable, please provide a translation of the comments. For more details, see Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Thank you. I'm aware of WP:DTTR but... well; you should know this already. If you must leave a message in another language (on enwiki), at least give a translation.  Chzz  ►  19:35, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is the English Wikipedia, but the discussion wasn't relevant to other editors here. This is someone who was active under a different name on the Dutch Wikipedia; that's why we know eachother and why I was curious how he's been. And if you're still curious to our discussion, see this automatic translation. Regards, Trijnstel (talk) 19:42, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yep; I do appreciate all that. And I know the user too. But the stuff in the above template holds true; you never know who else might wonder what you're chatting about. So, it's just a courtesy thing, and it's best practice. I hesitated to "template" you, and this really is a most polite request; I just hope you can understand why it is best-practice.
I have encountered situations when a seemingly innocuous posting in another language turned out to be a delicately disguised racial attack; and I've seen things written in non-goog-translatable langs that have turned out to be grossly offensive. I am not at all insinuating that there was any specific problem in your message - but I am definitely asking that you communicate in English here, or provide a translation. (In future, I mean - I'm not bothered about this specific posting) All the best,  Chzz  ►  20:09, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I can understand your concerns, but don't worry. I hardly speak in a different language here than English. This is/was an exception. Trijnstel (talk) 20:14, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, Trijnstel - thanks for taking it into consideration. I struggle with auto-trans, "if everything goes his passage on nlwiki. Arguments so keep your love. You should once again be fun to chat", but I imagine it's all good. Done, as far as I am concerned. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  20:16, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe, so you're still curious to what I said, huh? Ok, here's a better translation of those sentences (I used some abbreviations Google couldn't translate). "And yes, everything goes well on the Dutch Wikipedia. The usual fights between people will never stop. I would like to see you online on the chat for fun." Trijnstel (talk) 11:36, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, it was just a normal conversation about how he's been (and how I am) IRL and onwiki. That's all. Nothing special. Trijnstel (talk) 11:36, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
