Request[edit]

I realized that you are an expert at Userboxes. Actually, I was looking for Allergy Userboxes, but i could not find them. Will you be willing to make them? Thx --Innocentkimme 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Futsal[edit]

I don't know if you're the one that makes these or not, but can we actually get an image with the Futsal userbox? 24.255.152.91 19:24, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Where are they?[edit]

How can we see/pick from the Userboxes designated as belonging to User:UBX ? --Lexein 21:57, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

The userboxes are all in directories hosted in other user's userspaces, and a list of userboxes belonging to User:UBX can be found at Special:Prefixindex/User:UBX/. —METS501 (talk) 22:15, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Tone[edit]

I would make User:UBX way less apologetic. You haven't done anything wrong, but the page sounds defensive. — SMcCandlish [talk] [contrib] 21:48, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

I think that it's necessary given the controversy that it's caused, though. —METS501 (talk) 01:52, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

I Want My Userboxes Back![edit]

This is in no way meant to sound rude, but would I be able to migrate the userboxes I created back to a location under my Userpage? I've set one up, but hadn't got around to moving them all over there yet. --Major Despard 00:38, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

You mean migrate them to a subpage of your userpage? Sure, no problem, just give me the list and I'll get to it :-) —METS501 (talk) 01:51, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Is the bot supposed to move userboxes from other users subpages to this users subpage? If so, why? [1] --Boivie 14:17, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Rfrisbie is taking a wikibreak, and wants to clear his userspace of userboxes, and he asked that I use MetsBot to migrate the boxes. His userboxes are the only ones I'm going to migrate. —METS501 (talk) 15:18, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Okey, then I understand. Thanks. --Boivie 15:59, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Our very own userboxes[edit]

I don't mean to be rude, but could we like create userboxes under User:UBX/(userbox name here)? - PatricknoddyTALK|HISTORY 22:47, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Of course; no problem. —METS501 (talk) 16:15, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Unsubst?[edit]

When the user stuff all started, a lot of bots went around subst'ing the boxes. Do you have plans on having your bot go around and (a) unsubst them or (b) notify users that a "global" version is now available? — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 12:52, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Neither as of now. You may want to try Wikipedia:Bot requests. —METS501 (talk) 16:16, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Nice userbox directories[edit]

userspace -> userspace[edit]

Have a look at this edit[2]. 2 problems; "User:UBX" implys that it is more official (why can't you host them on your own account?) and the UBXs were already hosted on a willing user page. There's no reason to move them, and especially not to a specific account for userbox hosting. Scepia 03:56, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Great userbox idea[edit]

Some of you may have heard about the whole Chris Benoit case with the Wikipedia editor. Well, he vandalized Wikipedia, and what happened? He could face a lot of prison time, and his computer was seized by the police. So, the idea of the userbox is this:

This user knows you could get in trouble with the police if you vandalize Wikipedia.

Something like that, but wittier, and a link leading to story. I dunno what picture should be used, though. What do you guys think? I'd make it, but I dunno how to :'( Xihix 02:07, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Sure, either one or both is good, and feel free to host it in your own userspace or in User:UBX's, but to avoid any allegations of being a central repository, I would prefer that host it in your own. Just put them at User:Rhanyeia/UBX/Male and User:Rhanyeia/UBX/Female and add them to a directory somewhere. —METS501 (talk) 14:35, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Userboxes[edit]

These boxes have been created by an indef blocked sock: User:UBX/Shrooms and User:UBX/heroin. Do you think they should exist? I wonder if Wikipedia is a right place to advertise drugs. Best regards Rhanyeia 15:15, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Do you think you could delete these with {{db-userreq}}? Best regards Rhanyeia 17:55, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi. While I do personally believe that these pages maybe should be deleted, I do not feel it best to simply speedy delete them, as such speedy deletions have been the cause of many problems in the past. You are certainly free to nominate them for deletion, although it may not be worth the effort. —METS501 (talk) 20:50, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
I'll nominate them for deletion if they can't be deleted otherwise. However, they have been created by an indef blocked sock on your userspace, so I guess you are at the moment responsible of them. If you don't want the responsibility of either holding or deleting this content, could you rename them to my userspace please? Since UBX is your account, if you don't hold responsibility over the content of its userspace it ceases being a userspace and becomes another template namespace, and that would be problematic because on a deletion conversation it would be treated as a userspace. Best regards Rhanyeia 07:05, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
I've renamed them. Best regards Rhanyeia 10:53, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Dear UBX!

I appreciate your created templates in Wiki Userbox. As I can see in International Cuisines section is not enough. Category suppression[edit]

See User talk:Areldyb#Problem with Category:Russian Orthodox Wikipedians. The User:UBX/Userbox/Russian Orthodox userbox template does not implement category suppression. This causes Category:Russian Orthodox Wikipedians to be self-categorizing when it displays the User:UBX/Userbox/Russian Orthodox userbox template. We could fix this problem by adding category suppression to the template. See: User:Willscrlt/UBX/categories for the simple change that would be necessary. Do you mind making this change, or letting someone else make it? Thanks. --Teratornis (talk) 05:02, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Category suppression automated[edit]

Many userboxes are created and stored here as "User:UBX/something", so these pages act like the "template space" for userboxes. Many of the userboxes contain some category so that users that put such a box on their user page get categorised.

But we usually don't want the boxes to categorise the page here where they are built. Userboxes that were built using the meta-template {{userbox}} already didn't get categorised here, except in some special cases.

But to further improve that category suppression we have now made it so {{category handler}} does not categorise when on User:UBX or any of its subpages. That is, we have added User:UBX to the blacklist in {{category handler}}. This means two things:

  • Since {{category handler}} is used in {{userbox}} it now never categorises here under User:UBX.
  • If you build a userbox without using {{userbox}} you can use {{category handler}} to neatly handle your categorising.

In most cases it is probably best to use {{userbox}}, but if you choose to use {{category handler}} directly, here's how you should use it:

{{category handler
| subpage = no    <!--Don't categorize on subpages-->
| user = [[Category:Some user category]]  <!--Categorize in user space-->
| nocat = {{{nocat|}}}   <!--So "nocat=true/false" works-->
}}

The reason I added "subpage = no" is that people often put their userboxes on a subpage that they then transclude into their user page. And we don't want all such users to be categorised twice.

--David Göthberg (talk) 00:18, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

I have now also made it so {{category handler}} prevents categorising on the talkpages of User:UBX (like this very talkpage you are reading now) and its subpages. That is, the talkpages of the userboxes here. Since people often demonstrate and discuss the userboxes on the talkpages here.

WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum[edit]

Hi UBX,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

  • Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
  • It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
  • Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.
  • I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.
2. If you're a law student,
(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)
3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.

Confusing, not fair wiki use[edit]

I'm new to wiki and thought that I have to store all my created userboxes under User:UBX. You're trying to use other wiki editors in a manipulative way to full fill your own ambitions. That's not fair. If you're not trying to do that, then why does User:UBX has resulted in duplication of functions of Wikipedia:Userboxes#Gallery? It gives indirect message and obligation to store userboxes under User:UBX; see also 'A userbox (commonly abbreviated as UBX)' on Wikipedia:Userboxes. I suggest to reconsider your actions if your intentions are fair and with common sense. – imis 04:44, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

New Userbox for Jewish[edit]

I don't know anything about creating these userboxes...however...I do desire one.

I am ethnically Jewish, born and raised...but not by religion. I'm a Muslim by religious beliefs, I'm a Jew that reverted to Islam. However, I'm proud of my heritage.

Is is possible to have a userbox that can reflect on this? Can anyone please create any of these following?

Maybe "ethnically Jewish"; Jewish-Muslim; Judaic-Islam; Judaic-Islamic; Judaica-Islam; Judaeo-Islamic; or "I study Judaeo-Islamic Sciences"....?

Plus, the userbox listings also lacks "This user is Qara'it Jewish"; "This user is a Qara'i Jew"

Migrations[edit]

Four userboxes Per a request on my talk, userboxes have been moved to User:UBX/AAAwareness, User:UBX/Autism, User:UBX/Autistic, and User:UBX/Aspergers. Please do whatever you need to do to curate these and if you have any questions, post to my talk. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 06:03, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Categorize (much) more[edit]

I currently have 28 userboxes but only have 11 categories reflecting those meaning 60.7% doesn't categorize. I assume to fix this I'd have to search for categories then link the deficient userbox with it. I don't know hoe to do either of those. Is there a way to incite categorization? An meanwhile, can one give me tips on how to do it? Perhaps I'd do a few ones. Thanks DynV (talk) 23:31, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

Sunandclouds.svg Sunshine!
Hello UBX! Amanussya has given you a bit of sunshine to brighten your day! Sunshine promotes WikiLove and hopefully it has made your day better. Spread the sunshine by adding {{subst:User:Meaghan/Sunshine}} to someone else's talk page, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. In addition, you can spread the sunshine to anyone who visits your userpage and/or talk page by adding {{User:Meaghan/Sunshine icon}}. Happy editing! Amanussya 12:00, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Can anyone host a custom userbox here?[edit]

Is there a preference or recommendation to create/host userboxes on our own userpage, rather than create one here in UBX? Or is anyone free to create/host userboxes here? Jenglish02 (talk) 01:17, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
