Orphaned non-free media (Image:Edit link screencap.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Edit link screencap.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:27, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Strategic America

Hi, thank you for your comments. I have made some changes to the page. I made it more wikipedia friendly too. A number of Strategic America clients already have entries on Wikipedia and are multi national corporations, so i've linked to them through this article. I have also added references from BBB, AAAA and United Way to verify Strategic America's credentials and awards. I believe I have fulfilled the citation and references requirements of Wikipedia.

Also, I have removed superlatives that border towards blatant promotion. I referred to a couple of other wikipedia entries for advertising agencies to develop this page. I used a similar format.

As far as why the agency is important is concerned, I have added reasons for that on the page too. It is the largest privately owned agency in the state of Iowa and has a number of national clients like Lennox, Nationwide, Wendys, Sprint Nextel, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage etc. The clients have been listed and you will notice how many of them are national and even international.

Hopefully this fulfills the requirements for the significance and importance of the company. Please let me know what else I can do with the article to make it good enough for wikipedia. Thank you for all your help. Athard (talk) 17:01, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana

I am extremely upset that the page for Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana has been deleted.

The reason stated because the page didn't show any significance. This is outrageous! Not only is WAMM a revolutionary group that provides medical marijuana to the terminally ill, WAMM has been involved in many court cases which has expanded patients rights not only in California, but in the entire US.

The person who deleted the page was quick to make judgment, and deleted something that took me time to correct and edit.

STX Norway Offshore AS

Good call on the speedy, it's too bad the author doesn't know how to use {{hangon}}, even though it's right there on the page. Since he obviously cares about the article, I took the liberty of putting a hangon on the article for him. That should buy him a day to show if the article is worth keeping or not. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:53, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

The Other Place

Good lord old chap, what did you go and delete the redirection to Oxford's page for? Listen here, everyone knows that the university ranked second in the United Kingdom is known as "The Other Place", in much the same way that the second best public school in the world---Harrow---is also known as "The Other Place" to those who come from "The Place". In fact, the terms are so widely used within the United Kingdom, that even those who do not, and have not attended the respective institutions are very much familiar with the terms of endearment, as described here. Frankly I was shocked to discover that Wikipedia did not have a disambiguation for "The Other Place" which contained this information---no doubt this is the action of a past yank thinking he is acting wisely. I added the new page as without a redirection link I am not aware of how it could be disambiguated. I trust that you now understand, so now, please revert your deletion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andorin (talkcontribs) 14:57, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Sock Puppetry

Recently, I reported an editor for suspected sock puppetry. I am contacting those editors who may have had some unfortunate dealings with this editor. In your case it was on the article on Dave’s Market, which you tagged for speedy delete. What I wrote in the evidence section was:

  • Dave's Markets: This is one of the more blatant abuses. Frank created the article and is actively working on the article when within minutes of its creation it is tagged for speedy delete by ukexpat. Just 13 minutes after it is tagged Baseballfan789 removes the tag[1] and leaves a note on the talk page explaining notability and stating his intent to add the article.[2] (He never does.) Frank then continues editing the article. Where this is blatant is that Frank knows that as the original editor of this article he can not remove the tag. His other puppet, NewYork483, had actually referenced this very fact in an earlier edit on the Oakland Zoo (cheering section).[3]

Speaking of the Oakland Zoo (cheering section), you also recommended this article for speedy delete. Frank and his two puppets were on the other side. [4] Note in the article history that, again, Frank creates the article, someone tags it, and Baseballfan789 steps in to remove the tag.[5]

The purpose of this message is only to make you aware of the case, particularly since I reference your dealings with Frank directly. If you would like to review what I have written you can find it here.[6]

On a different note, I think you’ve done good work over at Tudor Rickards.

Thank you for your suggestion. When you believe an article needs improvement, please feel free to make those changes. Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone can edit almost any article by simply following the edit this page link at the top. The Wikipedia community encourages you to be bold in updating pages. Don't worry too much about making honest mistakes—they're likely to be found and corrected quickly. If you're not sure how editing works, check out how to edit a page, or use the sandbox to try out your editing skills. New contributors are always welcome. You don't even need to log in (although there are many reasons why you might want to). Jokestress (talk) 17:01, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
One of the biggest problems on Wikipedia is the overzealous use of speedy deletion. If an article is sourced to the New York Times, to a book, and the subject held a major government office, you should use WP:AfD instead. Please be less speedy and more circumspect with that particularly odious tool in the future. That kind of behaviour drives new contributors away in droves. Thank you. Thanks for your help.

Yes, I just read the wiki page on Subpages -- I don't really understand it, it is written so densely and technically as to be inaccessible: yes please -- would be grateful for your help to create one.

It`s also extremely confusing bc the wiki says that subpages are not to be used for major editing. .

re public domain images

I`ve applied the tests that are laid out on some of the wiki pages about images. They meet the criteria laid out about not violating privacy, identifying an individual etc.

Is that adequate, or must users take more active steps? I`ve read the help pages, but so often the wiki help pages overwhelm with such vast detail and content to the point of leaving me more confused than before I started reading them. Sigh.

Discouraging, because I am following the intructions as I thought they were presented. There seems to be substantial problems with user-friendliness of wiki guides.

Okay. I have some work to do!!

I better start with the see also links. I have spent 9 hours reading wikipedia manual on see also links and don`t understand what is being conveyed or asked.

I have read 'help link' and 'help section' at least 12 times, and thought I was following the instructions to the T.

Can you tell me what I`m doing that needs to be different?

(just wondering -- has anyone thought of an readable 'how to' guide? I can`t be the first person to spend days getting nowhere with the wiki manuals.) !!!!

Help:Section

Cleaning some of this up now.

I used Help:Section for linking to sections within my article. This is what it said to do. (The see also help page appears to omit to explain how to link within an article.)

A link to this section (Section linking) looks like this:

Section linking To link to a section in the same page you can use displayed text, and to link to a section in another page displayed text.

The anchors disregard the depth of the section; a link to a subsection or sub-subsection etc. will be #subsection name and #sub-subsection name etc.

An underscore and number are appended to duplicate section names. E.g. for three sections named "Example", the names (for section linking) will be "Example", "Example_2" and "Example_3". However, after editing section "Example_2" or "Example_3" (see below), one, confusingly, arrives at section "Example" from the edit summary.

If a section has a blank space as heading, it results in a link in the TOC that does not work. For a similar effect see NS:0.

To create an anchor target without a section heading, you can use a span: but this won't work with some very old browsers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Woodrowpongo (talkcontribs) 20:12, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

First Amendment Issue in regards to John J. Nance

You are correct, there is no First Amendment issue within the confines of Wikipedia.

However, I wasn't suggesting there were. I simply meant that his threat to file a lawsuit, because he has been criticized in a public forum, on an issue that has to do with important govt policies, amounts to an attempt to stifle the First Amendment rights of free expression, by citizens of the United States.

That is what SLAPP lawsuits are all about: An attempt to silence that right of free expression, by making it prohibitively expensive for defendants in a lawsuit, which seeks to punish them for exercising that right of free expression, which the US Constitution and most State Constitutions protect, with such declarations of fundamental rights of free expression.

That is why so many States now have specific statutes to deal with those kinds of SLAPP lawsuits, making the plaintiff pay for all the court costs and attorney fees of the defendants, that are being wrongly harassed with the processes of law, quite illegitimately.

Thanks much,

About Customer's Equity

I had operated thousands of business units/outlets, all over the country, since the sixties, and finally I decided in the late seventies, in order to avoid a part of the cost of the setting up of new outlets/branches (time, money and effort/labour) to give the right to customers to provide me (my business) with the facilities, equipment etc of the operations by reducing - in exchange - the prices of my products, that the customers would buy. Thus I discovered this relation and I called it "Customer Equity" or Customer's Equity (Consumer Equity and Client Equity), CE. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aristolaos (talkcontribs) 22:33, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

John Vernon (of Clontarf)

Delete the entry if you want to. I added it to help disambiguate for someone elses work on Clontarf, Dublin and Clontarf Castle. Their reference to John Vernon pointed to the actor not the person they intended. If you delete it then the reference to John Vernon will likely revert to the actor John Vernon which should be confusing to most people but no doubt you know what you are doing and I was just trying to help. I am a casual user so I don't even know if I am doing this right but since John Vernon (the one who acquired Clontarf Castle) was apparantly an ancestor of mine I noticed the problem and tried to provide a solution under disambiguation. Speedy deletion of LEMspare and article on Stephano Sabetti

I have had several post/responses with administrator Fughetaboutit concerning the article for Stephano Sabetti and the deletion/reinstatement/speedy deletion of not only the article but the user (me). I understand now, being new to Wikipedia contributions, how and why the article was perceived as blatant advertising. However, I was willing to greatly reduce the sheer magnitude and tone of the article to rectify the situation, and I have rewritten a greatly condensed version that I would like to post.I have also read the suggestions on spam and peacock terms.

Though I understand you were within the guidelines to suggest deletion of the article, I felt it was a bit harsh to block me as a contributor, to not give me an opportunity to fix the problem. The best I can understand the logs, Fughettaboutit asked for help after reinstating the article,it looks as if you suggested speedy deletion of both the article and user, and Pascal Tesson executed the suggestion. It now appears as if LEMspare has been deleted. Is this correct? I believe the only way I'm able to send this is because I never logged off yesterday, when the deletion took effect (Jan 11) How can I get reinstated? I would be willing to post the article "Under construction" or another way to ask yours and/or Fughettaboutit's okay so the article doesn't just get deleted out of hand at its mere appearance.

As I say, I've greatly minimized the voluminous nature of the work and its tone. I've reduced the article to just a few pages of facts. If you want, I can also delete all links to his related organizations and affiliations (though I've put them at ther end of the article) and other material, though I see this convention in many other articles. I really wasn't trying to shill for Sabetti's books. Rather, I was trying to show references for the contentions in the article.

Thank you very much for your assistance in this matter. Please help with a suggestion that will allow me to resolve this problem --LEMspare (talk) 11:54, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Fasting

You asked me not to put the Fuhrman material back on the Fasting page. Yet this material has been there for years, and has been recognized as authoritative, and the author recognized as notable in an AfD discussion with a verdict of KEEP. It is editors like LSD and others, usually anonymous, with a bias against the benefits of fasting, who periodically delete it, as in last April, and August. When I see that, I have reverted it, as it is cited, and correct. And I have discussed it ad nauseum on the Talk page. Obviously, I think it should stay. Ralphyde (talk) 22:25, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Please check the additions we have made as they are very accurate and reflect the truth, not one man's opinion. We have enclosed links as requested to prove our point. Hi there

I noticed you were editing some of the articles I just did, so I figured I'd say "hi". Thanks for the hint on {{Lifetime}} - I hadn't seen that one before.--SarekOfVulcan (talk) 18:31, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

ROCMET

Why have you moved this new sandbox from my userspace to Wiki?...It is a work in progress and will not be ready to go live for probably several weeks....and you have added a references tag to an unfinished stub....what were you thinking?...please move it back to my userspace sandbox as quick as you can. 21stCenturyGreenstuff (talk) 19:28, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Phew, thank for that....I thought I had lost half a day's work there. Much appreciated 21stCenturyGreenstuff (talk) 19:38, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Back off man.

seriously i don't appreciate you deleting an article that i created. this sucks...you should think about improving it to make it better then. or get someone else to...--Justme89 (talk) 21:49, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

wait, so who are you to decide whether or not it can be deleted? like who are you exactly... just curious--Justme89 (talk) 21:54, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

alright then. can you get a user to fix the article or improve it in any way shape or form so that deletion can be avoided? or can you possibly fix it? Justme89 (talk) 22:05, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

my edit

hello there, first thank you for working so efficiently to improve this wonderful tool that is wikipedia! this is the first time i'm editing and creating something here - it has been interesting :-) i am now trying to create a page relating to Bailey's elementary in the FCPS system - i'm putting more content after i realized that saving a page with little content was a sure death sentence ! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Polyglot-Mom (talkcontribs) 00:08, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi

really like your userpage - one of the nicest and funniest i have seen (especially like the babel box lol)

anyway, i thought i would like to nick some of the features and when i went to edit the page i found hardly anything in it and lots of subpages. I wanted to put a few of the banners on my own userpage but i cant work out how to do them any chance you could spare a few mins to explain to me how it works ?

regards

ok - im a bit thick lol - after many hours of trawling through the notes and links, I eventually found out how to create subpages !! woohoo !!
i would like to understand unified login though - i am getting a bit confused as to how to do this and even if i am allowed to

Category: Surnames | Greek surnames

Wondering if it is possible to include the new submission under the category 'surnames' as well as maintaining its current status under 'Greek surnames'.

Please and thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chondroyannos (talkcontribs) 19:50, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

What about this one?...

Hey. Thanks for the speedy response and it does certainly make sense but there are plenty other names filed under the 'Greek surname' category which are also included in the more general 'Surname' listing.

An example, the name 'Alexiou': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexiou

So I wondered if it was worth also including this surname in the general category. You're the pro, so entirely your call. Thanks again for the speedy and sensible advice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chondroyannos (talkcontribs) 20:02, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

thanks for taking the time to help !

hi

wow - thanks again !! i have puzzled over and looked at other pages to try and get them to align vertically but couldn't!!

i did try and follow the proc. for unifying before i left you my last message problem is when i try and login using this account, it tells me there is no user with that name ??

ah well, I do have 2 other accounts, on Wikinfo and meta.wikimedia but as they are same username i suppose ill leave it separate till i can work out why it doesn't work

thanks for the time again (nice to see a manc online for a change lol)

cheers

College of Public Administration SA

Hi Could you please check on my article and see if I have supplied the necessary information?

Corpfin (talk) 23:20, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Ukexpat,

I a fairly new, have just began creating an article in my sandbox, and there are a lot of things I am not sure about.. could you please take a look and give me some pointers. Thanx.

Also, I wanted to ask about sub-headings.. for example, I managed to create the appropriate headings in the sandbox but cant get subheadings... for example:

1. Social Enterprises

         1.1 Easy Being Green
         1.2 Cool nrg International

.....how do I create these?

Also, How do I make the very first headline (name of the article) into large size, bold.. if i click 'headline' it enters the article title into the table of contents..?

Please note: the article is still in first draft and I know I have to go back and fill in some gaps particularlly in the references sections.. these sources are being checked and confirmed and will be entered soon for an editor to check.

What mainly needed help with is - where do I go from here? And are there any issues outstanding that I really need to look at again before proceeding?

Thank you for your time and help.

Coolnrg (talk) 05:25, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Article status / recogntion

I'm relatively new to Wikipedia submissions. I was wondering if you could refer me to an article or info posting of some sort on the site that might make it a little more clear how I would go about having my article officially recognized. Should I contact a post-secondary institution for citations to add as reference points to my article? Can I link my own article to other ones listed on Wikipedia to act as sufficient backing for the information listed in my article? Will the warning label noting that the article does not cite any references or sources fall off after it has been listed for a certain period? Thank you for both your patience and your assistance! Kind regards Chondroyannos (talk) 01:09, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey thanks. So are references from other Wikipedia articles sufficient? If the 'See also' listings are too many, what would be an acceptable amount of internal references? It doesn't say how many should/shouldn't be listed in the informational text posted on the site. Only that there should be few. Chondroyannos (talk) 01:57, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi again, thank for your reply/help.

Just wondering - what did you mean by 'the title of your article will change when its moved..' ?

What is wrong with the title?

Look forward to your reply after reading over the first draft of the article.

Thanks again.

You participated in this discussion back in October, which didn't really go anywhere at that time. academy group tags

I was surprised to see that you added notability, npov and other tags to the Academy Group article yesterday. You know from my help desk query that I'm going to do a major clean up of this article. It seems questionable to hit an article that you only learned about from the help desk query. Is this action part of your Wikipedia responsiblities? If so, you might have mentioned it when you responded to my question.

I'm a new contributor and just trying to understand how things work here.

Thanks for the helpful message on my talk page

Thanks very much for the helpful info you put on my talk page. I'm completely new to wikipedia editing. I've used it quite frequently as a resource though. I've gotten involved in editing due to some apparently malicious editing on the article about the church I work for. I'm looking forward to expanding the article now though.

Thanks again - Jayreilly (talk) 17:44, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

converted numbers

the converted numbers are NOT in the source (http://boston.bizjournals.com/boston/stories/2007/04/23/story7.html) as you indicated "the converted numbers are in the source". The source mentioned "2.8 acres" and "117,000-square-foot" but NOT (11,000 m2) and (10,900 m2). am i over look the article that i don't see 11,000 m2 and 10,900 m2? Please point me to the exact paragraph that those converted numbers of 11,000 m2 and 10,900 m2 mentioned.

Even though I don't own the article once submit, but it has to be true to its professional's source. The source didn't state 11,000 m2 and 10,900 m2 so it should'nt even mentioned, so how can you make the change - through what source did you get the conversion formula?

You might want to help me keep an eye on the problems I've mentioned here with the article on the Chacha search engine thing. garrard transcription turntable - your 'tone' tag

Hello Can't seem to locate any discussion or explanation for your tagging the article I originated on garrard 3/401 transcription turntables. Looking to find out what seems amiss to you regarding the 'tone' of the article. Without any explanation the tag alone is not really helpful. Percy Thomson

Hi, Just wondering if you could let me know if this article is still classified as a stub? Thanks again for all your assistance.Words420 (talk) 01:50, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

If I were to stop making additions to a cult article, you'd likely continue asuming you were church. Though of course, religion itself is phonetically and technically a religion, as you are in the United States it is a legal issue. Besides, negativity is a relative term. Are you perhaps a fellow or madame that one would go to per instructions of a lawsuit?

There is a history philosopher and professor in the Ohio area with students coming to them, that is concerned about the way the Xenos cults, locally, are changing their students. I suppose your study group is less popular in all academic fields.

di falco page

Hello ukexpat. Thanks for your help with this page. I'm rather inexperienced with using the many functions of Wiki and the pc, but I'm muddling along. I hadn't noticed that the name had been changed again when I changed the year of birth. I also supplied, per suggestion, in the discussion area, various references made by the author to her age. If you have a moment sometime, could you look it over and give me any suggestions you have on improving it. Thanks for your assistance. Acimmouse (talk) 15:51, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

di falco page again

(I'm not sure if I am supposed to reply here or under your message.) Yes, it is a rather antiquated custom for women to lie about their age or reinvent their year of birth. It becomes difficult if one has previously extensively documented one's age. Acimmouse (talk) 16:07, 26 January 2009 (UTC) (edit: I forgot to sign it again.)

Dear Ukexpat,

As I have previously stated, the sentence is uttered in the film at 1:20:48-50. Beyond referencing the film itself, what else can be stated? She says this in the film, not in any print media. new article

I am new at this but wanted to get your feedback from an article on my userpage. I responded on my userpage but then didn't know if you would actually see it there. You referred me to some articles on Spam, COI, etc. but I need more specifics about the article I wrote on HMR. I used what I believe is a very neutral tone and referenced everything extensively (with outside published sources, US government references) so I'm a little confused now. I thought I carefully followed everything I read about a new article. Weightdoc (talk) 20:07, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

National Preservation

I must protest at your assigning the article in question for speedy deletion. The article was an article representing a business concern, registered at Companies house, which I do not hold a stake in so cannot be accused of bias. It provided a neutral, balanced history of the company and included references from external sources.

If you are to delete this article, I assume every article dealing with inernet based companies, and companies in general, is also listed for deletion.

I fail to see how this article broke any of the criteria for speedy deletion, and am shocked and appalled at your decision.

Typo redirect Archelaus smith

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Archelaus smith, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Archelaus smith is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Archelaus smith, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Hey, that picture of Jimbo scared me... Because you are so seasoned, you deserve an explanation beyond the automated CSDwarnbot. The reason I speedied it is because typing in a proper name searched with lower case would automatically redirect anyway to the original page. If you disagree, please comment on my talk page. RE: Bob Muran

Hello. I came to the Bob Muran article via your block request at WP:AIV. As per your vandalism report, I have blocked AlpineSkiingCanada (talk · contribs) for three hours for edit warring. I was also going to speedily delete this article, however (1) the individual in question appears to be notable, and more importantly (2) I do not know what is going on with the OTRS note on the talk page. As such, I went ahead and declined the speedy deletion request, then trimmed out all of the copyvio information and tagged the article as needing maintenance. Thank you for your dedication in keeping this copyright violation off of the project! Kudos to you, sir! --Kralizec! (talk) 04:36, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Indeed, there is nothing on Commons. The permission is only for text (archived in OTRS system, I gave the number on the Bob Muran discussion page) and it states that there is permission to use the text from this website: http://www.skiwithbob.com/about.html Email sent by the webmaster, so there is no reason to doubt it.
