The bad news[edit]

Now the bad news. Some (perhaps even all, I'm still checking) of your contributions so far are going to be removed or reverted or undone.

There are several reasons for this. In the case of this edit, it achieved nothing except to break a link. The capital you inserted was to an image's file name, invisible in the article, and when the file name in the article didn't match that of the image, the image was no longer displayed. I've already reverted this one.

In the case of this edit, which I was about to revert but another has already done it, [1] the new style does not match the standard we follow. See MOS:DECADE for the applicable style guide, which reads in part Decades as such contain neither an apostrophe nor the suffix -ies (the 1980s, not the 1980's,....

There is a lot of documentation in the Wikipedia Manual of Style, and it's best to consult it before making changes of this sort. It's searchable to some degree, and there are other navigation guides as well. Andrewa (talk) 18:41, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

And now another of your edits has gone,[2] not by me but by another editor following the MOS. Hang in there. Andrewa (talk) 21:48, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

The good news[edit]

No harm has been done. You are encouraged to be bold and I'm happy to clean these things up (and if I don't others will as we have just seen).

I just hope you don't feel your time has been wasted because some of your first attempts are reverted. It's a learning curve. Keep being bold! Andrewa (talk) 18:35, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Your interests[edit]

What are your particular interests?

Probably copyediting isn't the easiest place to start in Wikipedia. Is there some other place you'd like to start? Some topic in which we can find articles badly in need of repair, or missing entirely?

I am more than happy to help. Or if you want to continue with copyedits, I can make some suggestions there too. We do need copyeditors!

In either case, one of the first things to look at is the style of other articles, particularly featured articles and good articles, in your fields of interest. These should conform quite closely to all expected standards.

And of course there's the possibility that the standards are wrong, and there are provisions for questioning them, for changing them, end even for ignoring them. But this is not to be taken lightly. Best to get some experience with less controversial contributions first. Andrewa (talk) 23:30, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
