Mediation[edit]

I have agreed to mediate the discussion in the Gilad Shalit case, if accepted by the participants. I have experience mediating in the world outside Wikipedia and have completed the Dispute Resolution Program at the Justice Institute of British Columbia, Canada. I have been a Wikipedia contributor since 2003 and have informally mediated several cases, including one for MedCab (which was concluded successfully). I have applied to join the Mediation Committee. As a mediator, my role would be to facilitate discussion. My approach would include the following:

  • Listen to all participants
  • Help formulate an agenda
  • Identify common interests
  • Identify pertinent facts/policies/research that would assist participants in forming agreement
  • Facilitate an agreement and action plan.

As a non-member of Medcom, the convention is for participants to approve the mediator. Please indicate your response here. Sunray (talk) 22:09, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your vote of confidence in the process in the RfM for Gilad Shalit.
I suggest that we start with an opening statement from each of the participants on the RfM talk page. I've also suggested a few groundrules there. If at any time you wish to contact me privately via e-mail, please feel free to do so here. Best wishes. Sunray (talk) 22:02, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've updated the content at User:GaryECampbell/Sandbox. Comments ? Also, should I be editing the User:GaryECampbell/Sandbox content or the WebTrain content, or both ? GaryECampbell (talk) 20:49, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've finished my editing for tonight. Should I be posting the changes at WebTrain as well ? (since it's the article up for deletion). GaryECampbell (talk) 03:06, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

labelling (CDN) | labeling (US) is different, no matter. GaryECampbell (talk) 03:41, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added the Colin Hansen, Minister of Economic Development for British Colimbia reference (which you've seen), although it is not 3rd party major news, it is extremely notable to be cited as one of 10 from 6000 ITC companies in British Columbia. It would seem this reference qualifies as notable. Comments ? GaryECampbell (talk) 11:14, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}} Someone reported suspicians of a sockpuppet ? See User:GaryECampbell All my edits are marked, there is no history of such. Perhaps it was from renaming my account ? GaryECampbell (talk) 15:48, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the history comment about where to use helpme, will do. GaryECampbell (talk) 21:34, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • added major 3rd party reference in lead content from the Society for Technical Communication - they published a Webinar Matrix comparing WebTrain to other main stream vendors. It was quite detailed, the reference was found using Yahoo. GaryECampbell (talk) 06:48, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • The AfD passed, thank you. I created a categorized list of a few hundred references on my talk page that should be helpful when editing the article. GaryECampbell (talk) 07:45, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • The WebTrain article is complete, all items are cited and lead improved. Also changed the lead to be more notable. I hope you are pleased. In regards to a different issue, I moved my user talk to /Archive 1. I moved the /Sandbox content to /Archive 2. So now I have a blank user and talk page. When I tried to edit my user page for the 1st time, the following was generated:

The text which was on this page has been moved to User:Gary WebTrain/Sandbox per Wikipedia talk:User page#WebTrain company article in userspace & Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#User Gary WebTrain

Are there some things that need to be cleaned up ? Maybe I messed up on the move ?
Perhaps you could check that out and also provide a starting point for my user page. Thanks GaryECampbell (talk) 03:38, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the Barnstar buddy! But that weird message keeps appearing when I try to edit my user (not talk page)??? GaryECampbell (talk) 04:10, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Congratulations on your successful adminship. GaryECampbell (talk) 16:05, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm alive[edit]

I haven't been able to get online recently (past two days), but I should be able to get on sometime tommorrow. I'll say hi to you on IRC or whatever. I guess I'll be able to jump back into the case, but we'll see. Have a good day =)  Mm40 (talk | contribs)  23:54, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My Josh Bernstein Articles[edit]

The BOSS article was not an advertisment had the person who eleted the link gone and read the article. My other interviews with him are relevent because he had some really good points and answers to the questions. Maybe others would enjoy reading them and they are no worse than the ones already included on the list of articles about him as my articles are about HIM  :)

Convo w/ Chagfeh[edit]

Hi there. I'm confused here; am I even allowed to edit this page? I have read your guidelines (although I think they're kind of hilarious, but I suppose that's natural for newbies probably). Anyway, I have had received an adoption invitation from another person (although I can't find him now). Can one have two adoptees? Also, it says in your guideline that one needs to ignore all rules? I don't think I quite understand that... Thanks a lot for your help! --Chagfeh (talk) 19:51, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, sorry to come off as such a stalker, but I just added information about the Bird and the Bee's latest album, but I wanted to upload a picture for the album and I didn't know how to do so; how can I go about it?

Thanks so much for your help!!! --Chagfeh (talk) 19:51, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for the words of encouragement; I very much appreciate them! Well, to be honest, I actually looked at the other articles that were written (to write up One Too Many Hearts) and copied them in order to fit it into the style of wikipedia (it's quite an ordeal to memorize all of the functions that would allow to develop a better format); is that ethical or alright by the way? Sorry that I'm asking so many questions! I REALLY appreciate the help which you have offered and I am enjoying this mentor-learning approach a lot (I'm really social; in the sense where I learn faster when I receive information from a person rather than from a tutorial).

Again, thanks a lot! --Chagfeh (talk) 23:35, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I hope all is well with you. I've edited my personal page; I'm quite happy with it now! I was meaning to ask about Wikiprojects and portals; I've noticed that there isn't a Wikiproject dedicated to discuss Jordan, how can I go about initiating such a project? I honestly do not think I have the capacity to undertake such a project, but I'm more than glad to contribute.

Also, how can one go about finding articles that have not been initiated yet, or that need citations and cleaning up to meet the standards of Wikipedia? Finally, how can I post a little box indicating that you're my mentor? :D

Cheers,

--Chagfeh (talk) 19:50, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, can one change one's username? Yet leave all the edits and contributions untouched?--Chagfeh (talk) 09:55, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot!!! Figured out to add photos and change my signature. So, how/when does one become an established editor?

Have a great day! --karmasbh (talk) 15:16, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep I've requested for a name change...I hope they accept it, thanks so much. Sorry I've been busy in "real life", I still find it funny how everyone at Wikipedia refers to "real life" as some parallel universe, whereas like the WWW is actually becoming a parallel universe with alter egos and all. Anyway, have a great day! --karmasbh (talk) 14:22, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WebTrain[edit]

I'm concerned that Gary WebTrain's main user page is displaying most of the content which was deleted twice (WebTrain Communications and WebTrain) as per the blatant advertising WP:CSD#G11 speedy deletion criterion and the WP:NOT#ADVERTISING policy.

I don't know whether his userpage should be moved to a less highly visible subpage or, as per WP:UP#NOT #6, speedied as the articles were or prodded. Thoughts? — Athaenara 19:00, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

I am really busy in RL and have been away on business, that's why I haven't had the time to follow up with the mediation. Can you give me an update on the developments of the mediation? I came back today, and first thing I saw was Nostradamus1 removing a bunch of sources, and deleting a notable sub-section. Was there a consensus for such removals? Best Regards. --07fan (talk) 06:43, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My edit review[edit]

I wanted to thank you for the kind words and thoughts you put into my edit review; I have taken to to heart, and acknowledge them with great interest. You mentioned the matter of conflicts, and I'm am proud to say I can not recall a moment when emotions took over the volunteer work I put into here. That is not say I am very social on this project; my talk page is very small and I just got into AfD. Personally, I rarely let my temper out, and growing up with two younger siblings, let me tell that I am often tested, and I cringe at the thought of being uncivil to people who dedicate their time to this project. My only goal is to my work, and not get in the way. Much appreciated, and happy editing, Leonard^Bloom (talk) 20:58, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Xavexgoem. I've noticed that you have a completed set of responses to the RfA Review question phase at User:Xavexgoem/RfA review , but they don't seem to be included on the list of responses here. If you've completed your responses, please can you head to Wikipedia:RfA Review/Question/Responses and add a link to them at the bottom of the list so that they get included in the research. We have a closing date of midnight UTC on 1st July, so please add your link before this date. Demographics of Argentina[edit]

Thank you for doing your job and helping to protect articles from vandalism. The edits I made to the article Demographics of Argentina were sourced, by the Universtiy of Beunos Aires in Spanish. I intend to see that facts are seen by all people. And hope that good faith edits such as these will be protected from public or personal opinion (which isn't sourced =). I understand that User:Fercho85 would like protection of this article from vandals, and I share that opinion... I am not, as Fercho85 may believe, one of those vandals. Cali567 (talk) 06:34, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I have yet to recieve a message from the party in question... but will do my best to talk it out. It's difficult when people want everything to fit in a box. Thanks again, Cali567 (talk) 06:44, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am abroad, away from home[edit]

And in the meanwhile, Nostradamus1 used an IP to remove a bunch of sources from List of Turic states that he did not like [1]. This is unacceptable editing, and what's more disturbing is that you have endorsed this behavior, by closing the ongoing case, and giving a green light to Nostradamus1 to do as he wish on that page when there are 3-4 editors who disagree with him, but don't have as much time and energy as him to push their POV. --07fan (talk) 19:55, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

o7fan, how do you know that 85.98.207.88 is my IP address? The 3-4 editors you are referring to all popped up suddenly to back up your version this week. They all appear to be fellow Iranians of yours. Have you asked them for a show of solidarity? --Nostradamus1 (talk) 03:29, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Enough. My talk page is not a battleground for personal attacks against others. Xavexgoem (talk) 14:12, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Martin[edit]

Quite. You raise a valid point, one which I also raised at Talk:Scotland (I wasn't happy that people were calling for a block without formally welcoming or even warning them!).

I certainly appreciate that this user may really be new, but, socking asside, what actually concerns me is the level of cognative ability on display. With the greatest possible respect, the contributions made thusfar suggest to me that the user may struggle fitting in by way of adapting to Wikipedia's needs. I'm you understand my... thoughts here. --Jza84 |  Talk  23:20, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, a cursory glance at his contributions confirms this gentleman is evading a block by way of using Martin as a sockpuppet. Just take a look at Talk:Kilmarnock#Protection. In this capacity, I'm going to indef block this new account as a sock. --Jza84 |  Talk  23:29, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all. I think we behaved as well as, if not better than could be expected. :) --Jza84 |  Talk  23:35, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestions[edit]

I appreciate the time you took to give me some direction and guidance. As a new contributor just learning the ropes, I was deleted before I knew what I did wrong! I will try to incorporate your ideas into my article and let's see if I can last more than 4 nanoseconds. Cheers! ztrautman (talk) 02:44, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

07fan is back reverting[edit]

User:07fan is back reverting my contributions without any discussion claiming consensus. You are familiar with the case. Here is what he reverted [2]. Please, advise.--Nostradamus1 (talk) 02:43, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know if user:07fan is an admin but I received the following 3RR warning from user:07fan. That is false. There is a WP rule not to intimidate contributors on any false claims. This user does not engage in constructive dialog on the disputed issues but insists on periodically restoring the article the a version he prefers. Since you are familiar with the dispute, could you, please, take a look. Without a constructive dialog the article will be left as it is.--Nostradamus1 (talk) 03:29, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am back[edit]

Sorry for my last message, I was jet-lag, tired, and trying to access and post on Wiki ia my mobile phone in a hotel lobby when I saw that a bunch of sources and sourced dentals had been removed from the List without a consensus, or a proper justification, and the mediation had also been closed based o the request of the same user who had removed the sourced details. My frustration took the better of me, I should not had blamed you, I was rude and I apologize for that. --07fan (talk) 02:54, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe we have patiently waited enough for you to make your case. So far your arguments have been lacking any substance and included false quotations of reputable sources. You think you are stubborn by refusing to honor established rules? Let us see who is more stubborn. I spent valuable time on the article and do not intend to leave it to be thrown away by those who can't accept the rules. We will be discussing this for a while, I guess. I am not sure if we are supposed to work around your schedule though. We shall see. I won't give this up. This is a test case for me.--Nostradamus1 (talk) 06:05, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2008-06-22 United Kingdom[edit]

Hello. I really do think we need someone to take a much more active mediating role in the above case. We seem to be getting bogged down with various positions where people seem not to be able to post messages in the context of seeking consensus by being prepared to make concessions. Additionally, one editor is not helping by posting messages that I think could be said to contain notions of blame.  DDStretch  (talk) 13:42, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comments. Given MickMacNee's over-aggressive responses and comemnts about myself, I felt the only option I had was to withdraw, as I certainly could not take any administrative action against him beyond my advice I ad already given. Unfortunately, I see he has taken it upon himself to begin to behave in the same way on Talk:Wales where there are efforts being made to change the wording to a form which will spontaneously lead to a greater consistency in the three articles. I don't see just why MickMacNee is so set against this, though as far as I can see, the wording would not be that agreed upon in the "fake consensus" that was driven by the sockpuppet and which he seems at times to be defending so strongly. Thanks anyway.  DDStretch  (talk) 16:41, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Locking the page on Nostradamus1`s version[edit]

I don`t want to question your neutrality, but this is only going to encourage Nostradamus1 to continue POV-pushing , edit-waring, and WP:owning the page so that he can get it locked on his preferred version. Within the last month alone, Nostradamus1 has been reverted by seven different uses from the four corners of the world (2 Bulgarians, 2 Iranians, 2 Russians, and 1 German) on the List of Turkic states... Nostradamus1 reverted 4 different editors in the last 3 days alone. Do you seriously think that all the other editors are wrong, and Nostradamus1 is right....I do understand that you`re not familiar enough with the topic to pass a judgment on the disputed content or Nostradamus1`s ultra-nationalist POV, but don`t you just find it a little bit odd that Nostradamus1 has been opposed by every other user who has ever been involved on that page? --07fan (talk) 22:19, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed this message from 07fan today. I will be requesting formal mediation for the article. You have done a great job in trying to resolve the differences. Unfortunately I see no changes without constructive dialog and cooperation from the disputing parties. If you did not have enough of it already, please, feel free to take the case. I'd be glad to work with you on it. If not, thank you, anyway, for your effort and patience.--Nostradamus1 (talk) 03:46, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Advice[edit]

Hey what happened?[edit]

You were on my page about my name and I think you were saying my name was not unblocked but I think we just couldnt find it. NOw that we found it, we know its blocked. So can you unblock it please? I should have never been blocked becasue of my user name (other wikpedia members in the past put something like that on my page) and yet someone blocked me cus of my user name (at least I think that's what it was for, or at least what it was partly for) 71.105.82.152 (talk) 01:34, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would recommend that you do a rethink about unblocking this chap. He has clearly not learnt to behave himself. And I belive that his request to unblock on the ANI(I cannot locate it at present) was turned down. --Deepak D'Souza (talkcontribs) 07:06, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks , but if you think that I am upset at his ha! ha!s. Im not. I expected he would do that. Editors can get themselves unblocked or create sockpuppets, but they can't re-edit themselves, can they:-)? Let's see, if he does something useful, Im ready to take back my words, but I seriously doubt that oportunity will arise! --Deepak D'Souza (talkcontribs) 00:00, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Xavexgoem, I'm having a problem with another user. NetHistoryBuff5 (talkcontribs) seems to have a serious COI on Gerald Guterman. It's the only page the user edits. And the user seems interested only in a puff piece, going so far as to remove citations from the NYTimes, a noted economist, and so forth. He ignores 3RR, and is new to WP. I'm getting weary of the lack of willingness to edit in a cooperative manner. If you can help talk to NHB5, I'd be grateful. Thank you. Smilo Don (talk) 05:06, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ar..18[edit]

I don't think your decision to allow Ar...818 to edit Wikipedia was a wise one. The Wikipedia enterprise is about building an encyclopedia, not about placating churlish people (like Ar...818) who have shown relentless dishonesty and bad faith in the past, who remain inflexible, who can't write at the level of junior high school, who, to boot, know nothing about India, but who nonetheless feel entitled to mercilessly edit the stable lead of the India page, an FA since early 2005.

The only consequence of his return, as I see it, is that some very capable editors, who would otherwise be contributing productively, are now spending their time engaging Ar...18 in inane dialog. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 04:33, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! That was a very considerate and honest reply, and funny too! Yeah, Wikipedia is an unpredictable place ...
