Random Humor about Wiki Editors[edit]

I've been keeping a catalog of people I've met on Wiki. Here are some of them.

  • The Helpful Good-Wiki Editor - These are good hearted people who just like to make a contribution to this project that they believe in. They don't take this thing too serious. They don't OWN any pages. They don't start or finish editing wars. They don't stalk other editors. Their watch page consists of only projects they created. I wouldn't be surprised if these editors have at least eight foster kids and three cats at home. If you saw their ad on a singles classified ad it would probably say, M/W/F non-smoker, loves pets, liberal but won't be voting for Obama again, looking for someone to play bingo with at St. Mary's on Wednesday.
  • The IP Taliban - Generally this guy actually does have an account, but it's been blocked/banned and because the Wiki FBI is on this tail he has starting using IP Address to terrorize the editorial community with suicide F-Bombs and IUE's (I Undo Edits). Every now and then he will drop random curse words in articles, just to show you how expansive his vocabulary is. He is cell unto himself. He partners with no one and he cackles gleefully when you give him the attention that he so desperately seeks.
  • Maslow's Nightmare - After this person has acquired food, shelter, and safety, their next priority in life is Wikipedia. This is their source of value, importance, and self-esteem. They pursue the avenues available on Wiki to obtain the power, position, and prestige that they so desperately seek in real life, but cannot obtain. Their only option is to be a 'somebody' in the Wikipedia world. They remind me of the people I use to meet on online games like the Multi-User-Dungeons and later Everquest and Ultima Online back in the 90's. These people had the most influential and powerful characters online, but in real lafe they hated themselves. But just like the online games, Wikipedia needs these people as well. There has to be SOMEBODY here that will die for this thing! Every successful organization needs martyrs, and these Nightmares of Maslow are it. They will do everything in their power to keep Wikipedia going because if it dies, so will they.
  • Mensa Wannabe - If this guy were to take an IQ test, he'd probably score between 80 and 99. He's not very smart at all, can't think past his nose, and doesn't apply logic or reason to any of his edits; evidenced by his track record of 'undos' - his explanation can always be summed up as, 'I'm right and you're not'. The only thing to respect about him is that he's not a member of the IP Taliban. He actually has a registered account and is producing, on average, 75 to 150 edits a day. Just like the government FBI; full of wannabe Mensa members, this guy is on the Wiki FBI. He uses that position to stalk/investigate people who he thinks are wrong and constantly undo's their edits. He believes that their are outside treats to Wiki; editors trying to undermine textual security. His watch list is longer than a Spike Lee movie and more interesting than Hillary Clinton's wardrobe of pant's suits. He may or may not be a Nightmare of Maslow; he could just be a jerk - who knows? And another great thing about him is that he is the same way in real life. Some people create online characters so that they can become who they always wanted to be in real life, but Mensa Wnnabes are 100% consistent. The jerks they are on on Wiki is the same jerk they are in real life.. BTW my IQ is 135, which doesn't qualify me for Mensa either, but I'm sure I could score high enough on a good day. That aside, at 135 I'm still smarter than most people on the entire planet, including Sara Palin. You betcha!
  • That Guy - You know the one . . . LOL The one who will read this and think it is a personal attack and report me. LOL LOL He is waaayyyy too serious about this thing and really needs to have a 'Come to Jesus meeting/intervention', find a wife, have a some kids, settle down, buy a Prius, and enjoy life, because whatever that thing he has stuck up there is killing his joy. Paula White would tell him that he needs to go see the Devil to get his joy back, but even the devil wouldn't steal anything from this guy. He's just needs to learn how to wake up with a smile, and learn how to laugh again.
