Ricky Rubio i Vives[edit]

Ricky Rubio is from El Masnou, Barcelona. He is a Catalan. He speaks Catalan at home. Therefore, his name is Catalan (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Spanish_naming_customs#Catalan_names). That's why his name is Ricard. If his name were Spanish, he would be "Ricardo".

Watch one of the last games, the Wolves fans have made a flag half Catalonia, half Minnesota. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erintiransom (talkcontribs) 12:01, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well I don't need ESPN, I've seen him many times speaking in Catalan on TV. It's his mother tongue, although he is fully bilingual with Spanish, as most Catalans -like myself- are. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erintiransom (talkcontribs) 17:57, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I understand we have to use sources. But would you provide a link to prove that, let's say, LeBron James mother tongue is English? That'd be ridiculous, right? You would provide a link to prove, if that were the case, that his mother tongue be French. It's the same: Ricard is a Catalan name, he is from a town near Barcelona -capital of Catalonia-, he speaks Catalan at home, therefore his name follows Catalan rules. Oh please, before anybody criticizes my grammar, check the entry for English subjunctive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.17.119.121 (talk) 19:41, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I shouldn't make assumptions? You are the one making assumptions -you reverted somebody's change ("According to?" 00:48, 3 January 2012‎) based on your assumption that Ricky Rubio must be Spanish speaking. Ricard is not a exotic name in Barcelona: it is a Catalan name. Well, I don't want to argue anymore. Just watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYFCBGbJv4A and you can see how Ricky addresses his family, friends, schoolmates and teachers in Catalan -with subtitles in Spanish. When he talks to the journalists, he does it in Spanish, since it is a Spanish TV station doing the documentary on him -personal life as well as the beginning as a professional. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.17.119.121 (talk)

Carter[edit]

It's not us who get in trouble. All it they do is just take it down anyway. If you had any references to nba.com, you'd also notice that many of those citations are gone. Anyway, there's many other sites that features videos and articles that have the same material.. so I'll find them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MJJ509 (talkcontribs) 07:02, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Because you're taking them out, someone else is now filling in words in teh article liek (by whoe, when, etc.. They're not errors when you go to any other athlete and see much less references. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MJJ509 (talkcontribs) 05:51, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would assume that Jalen Rose and Vince Carter got permission from the NBA since Carter's still a player and Rose is a broadcaster. Besides, why are your being so picky with this article that I've spent some time trying to fix. I don't know all the rules just yet, but let me learn as I go and correct them. I ask you not to delete the references I tried to dig up. I will modify them as I go along. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MJJ509 (talkcontribs) 05:42, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

google and youtube has come out with a program to detect copyright issues. And again, when most of the footage in Carter's videos seems clearer than any other videos of the same clips, I'm pretty sure he has gotten permisssion from the networks and nba.com. The same goes with Jalen Rose who himself is a tv broadcaster. Now, as for permanency...if you on the Raptors website, many of the references that were once used are now gone.... to which goes to show that articles are easier to erase by newspapers unless they put them in archives. I know some articles I referenced from sportsnet.ca are now available anymore. Keep in mind, I'm sure most readers are aware that some articles have been verified to be more credible than others whether there's that star on the page or if someone has posted warnings of lack of credible sources or neutrality warnings..etc. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/nov/01/google-youtube-monetise-content — Preceding unsigned comment added by MJJ509 (talkcontribs) 05:02, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me, how are youtube videos illegal? When professional athlets such as Jalen Rose and Carter has posted clips that they did not get permission? Many of Carter's videos are in higher quality which means he somehow attained the originals from the tv networks. Don't delete them assuming they're illegal because most likely they're not. The other clips made by maxillmillion also has worked for Vince Carter and so I'm sure they've made sure to get sort out the legal requirements.

You don't think any of the NBA networks would allow Jalen Rose who's a broadcaster to put up illegal clips??? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MJJ509 (talkcontribs) 04:36, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, yes I should be able to find text references. When I get the chance, I'll fill them in. I'm curious why youtube clips would not count as references? I've seen many other sites use youtube clips as references and if you go to any NBA athelet's page, most statements aren't neutral nor referenced.

I know several of those clips that I posted are youtube clips posted by NBA players like Jalen Rose and Vince Carter, but I will add text references as I find them.

Jordan and lockout[edit]

Regarding your concerns with 2011 NBA lockout‎‎ and Michael Jordan mentioning Jordan making $33 million in final year, I understand your concern for neutrality. However, both The New York Times and FoxSports.com sources brought it up to contrast Jordan the player from Jordan the owner, so this is not original research piecing together facts to push an unpublished point. While it might seem like a strong POV especially in light of Jordan's iconic status as a player, WP:NPOV says to present all significant views, not that views should not be suppressed when there is not a counter view (e.g. someone praising Jordan as an owner). Since only a few sentences are devoted to this topic, I dont think it is WP:UNDUE. I think his earnings are key information for a reader to know. Is there an alternative wording you might suggest to neutrally present this? Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 02:22, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really have an alternative in mind. I believe that the remark to Pollin is enough to establish why sporstwriters would call Jordan a hypocrite. It just seems like we're piling on when we throw in the income, too. I understand that some sources do throw that fact in, but we're not obligated to follow their lead. (Personally, I don't think their argument is completely fair, anyway. Historically speaking, many people thought Jordan was grossly underpaid for most of his career. He only made eight figures for two seasons - excluding endorsements, that is.)
I'm not even sure if the Jordan article should be mentioning the lockout stuff at all. For such a huge topic, it's important to think about long-term importance. I don't want to whitewash the article; indeed, if you want to add some color, there are several other controversies that I think could be mentioned (like his "Republicans buy sneakers, too" comment). I'd just like to wait and see where the lockout stuff fits in the big picture. Zagalejo^^^ 04:21, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't call one factual sentence piling on (citing all of Whitlock's opinions would be a different story). I can respect wanting to err on the side of being conservative for a BLP, so I can go with the compromise. Also, I see his $30 million contract is mentioned already in Michael Jordan#Media figure and business interests, so its not like the info is being totally lost.—Bagumba (talk) 06:03, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'll keep an eye on the story as it develops. If Jordan's stance turns out to have serious repercussions, we can revisit things. Zagalejo^^^ 07:38, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mitch Norton/Eurobasket[edit]

Zagalejo, do you think you could e-mail Eurobasket to try and get them to change Mitch Norton's height that is listed on the Townsville Crocodiles page. Eurobasket (or Australiabasket) has Mitch Norton listed as 196cm (or 6 ft 5 in), but that is wrong. I have found three sites that have him at 183 cm (or 6 ft 0 in):,[1],[2].[3] Thankyou. 120.145.128.226 (talk) 10:23, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not even sure if 183 cm is correct, since the Crocodiles' own website lists him at 180 cm: [1]. I think 196 cm is almost certainly wrong, but otherwise, I don't know what I should tell the site. If you want to send them a line, you can email them at 4marek@eurobasket.com. Zagalejo^^^ 02:13, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect info on Deron Williams[edit]

people keep changing that the EuroChallenge is the third level of Europe and claiming falsely, "there is no evidence to prove this". Not only is it a fact, evidence even citing was added by me several times, with sources and is always removed. In addition to this, the wrong stats are being posted and wrong claims about his stats in EuroChallenge. These are his official stats in EuroChallenge ---> [3] yet they are being manipulated by claims that his first two games were not official games. even though they most certainly were and the official website even confirms it. I am very well versed on European basketball[edit]

Hey man, about that discussion on the Deron Williams' talk page. Please understand that I am a huge and long time European pro basketball fan. So I know exactly what i am talking about. Please try to understand that. And quite honestly, looking at the edits of the arguing side, for example they claim Vassilis Spanoulis is a shooting guard. In fact, that is a Euroleague player that has played point guard every single season for the last 5 seasons and also for this season. And I saw one of their edits was to change his position from point guard to say he was not even a point guard. So, this is someone that surely has very limited knowledge about European basketball. Just like them not knowing that the eurobasket.com website is not an official website but just a personally owned blog website. But trying to infer that what it lists for stats are official, but that EuroChallenge's official website "made a mistake". I just want you to understand I'm not edit warring with anyone. I'm just posting basic and simple facts that are true and totally verified and sourced officially. So I think maybe you should not be so quick to jump on edits made by people that might know a lot about European basketball, while defending ones made by people that clearly don't know that much about it. I just wanted to explain that to you, so you can understand that I was not edit warring. I don't want to get banned from the site over something so stupid as this.173.216.237.132 (talk) 03:42, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Norris Cole[edit]

Again, I have been following Cole for over a year. I am not some Johnny-come-lately who just got interested in him after his performance at the Red and Black Scrimmage or against the Boston Celtics. I am extremely knowledgeable about him. In fact,I wrote most of his wikipedia page. I don't care NBA.com has to say. They are wrong. That's why I cited Cole's pre-draft measurements at the 2011 Chicago Combine in June from Draftexpress.com at the bottom of the page. A lot of sites don't update their information or spread inaccurate information. Espn.com and Nba.com are just some of them. Go Check the Media Notes at the official Miami Heat site. They also list him as 175. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oldclothes1 (talkcontribs) 20:04, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yi Jianlian, NBA Veteran[edit]

The source is directly linked from the D-League website. Unless you have a reliable source to dispute it, the official website clarifies that he is the first NBA veteran. It seems you don't follow the D-League rules well. Prior to this season, the NBA only allowed NBA contracted players who have played 2 seasons or less to be sent to the D-League. Read the new rules, this season with their consent NBA teams can send players down to the D-League with their consent. That is why he is the first, Yi has played more than 2 seasons. Nick Calathes stats[edit]

I just thought I would let you know, since you are looking at the Nick Calathes page sometimes - that I fixed the stats listed on that article. Because the field goal percentages listed in Europe are just 2 points and 3 points shots separately. So you have to add the two of them together to get the stat of overall field goal percentage. So the stats listed were wrong, as they listed overall field goal percentage as being the same as just 2 point shot field goal percentage. I just thought I would explain those edits to you if you saw it and thought it was wrong.173.216.237.132 (talk) 20:17, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deron Williams stats[edit]

I posted the correct stats for his international stats with the links to the official stats. TBL stats official in English --> [5], EuroChallenge stats official in English ---> [6] - he did not play in the Eurocup. Once again, the eurobasket.com website is NOT an official website and it should NOT be used as a source for the stats. Not when it is in error and the official sources are readily available and provided and added in the edits. Also, the 2 point shot FG% is not the same thing as overall FG%. You have to add 2 PT FG% plus 3 PT FG% together. You can't use simply 2 point shot attempts FG% as the overall field goal % (all shots combined). I also fixed the total stats numbers. They should be the total average of the games he played in the TBL and the EuroChallange. I had to fix them because they were almost all wrong.173.216.237.132 (talk) 07:17, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I know you did not add them. I was just informing you about the edits and why. I will explain it all on the talk page also.173.216.237.132 (talk) 07:21, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He keeps adding the incorrect stats in order to try to diminish what Williams' accomplished in Europe. The EuroChallenge website simply incorrectly included EUROCUP QR games which are EUROCUP games against teams now playing EUROCUP. The stats on Eurobasket.com are correct. If you keep putting the incorrect information, I suggest that the international statistics section be removed. I use several websites this user posts on and various examples can be posted of inaccurate and flat out slanderous information that he tries to spread about American basketball players and the NBA.

That's why it was cited. If you don't agree with the presentation, fine - but don't delete an entire contribution just because you don't believe the format of the attribution was correct. Francisco Elson[edit]

Regarding Francisco Elson, I think he has been waived, but I'm not really sure because he is still on Sixers roster page, listed as DNP-CD at today's game, and there are no official announcement that he has been waived. But a lot of third party sources wrote that he waived on February 7: Sporting News, TSN, RealGM, NBC Sports, Yahoo!. My theory is that he has been waived on February 7 (on the deadline to waive unguaranteed contract), but was re-signed today (probably on a 10-day contract). This could explain why he is missing from the team sheet for 3 games from February 8 to 11. But this is just a theory and I'll wait for more concrete news before updating the related articles. For now, I've restored him to the roster templates and removed him from free agent list in the transactions article. Cheers! — MT (talk) 04:53, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Scola is of Italian descent[edit]

Just so you know, Scola is of Italian descent. I added that (it is true) because I have been reading in all US sports media that he is of Spanish descent, which is untrue. He is actually of Italian descent, like most of the Argentine basketball players (Prigioni, Oberto, Delfino, Ginobili, Nocioni, etc.) they are all of Italian descent. So is Scola. I simply added that because I keep reading in US sports media articles that Scola is of Spanish descent. I assume this comes from Wikipedia listing him as having Spanish citizenship. However, his descent is Italian, not Spanish. But this error is being put all over the internet from US sports media. Also, it should probably be pointed out that Spain changed their citizenship rules for professional athletes a few years back. It used to be that if you were playing in Spain for 5 years you could get a Spanish passport so you could count as a domestic player in the roster of your ACB team and you could keep it. But since then, and since the time Scola left Spain, the rules were changed so that you would only keep this as long as you stayed in Spain. Upon leaving Spain, you would not longer have the passport. So I think Wikipedia is wrong in that it is claiming he has current Spanish citizenship, which is very doubtful (since he isn't actually of Spanish descent at all), and since he has not been there for a few years. He would not keep the citizenship, since he isn't actually of Spanish heritage. And also in that Wikipedia is being taken by many US sports media, with the Spanish citizenship of Scola, and they are claiming he is of Spanish descent, even though he is of Italian descent, and not Spanish. This is not the same thing as Prigioni, who is also an Italian-Argentine, but has stayed in Spain (so he has kept his Spanish passport until he would leave there), and it is not the same thing as guys like Delfino, Nocioni, Oberto, Ginobilii, who keep their Italian passport because they have Italian birth status, due to a parent or grandparent being Italian birth nationals. So, I think there is something a bit misleading about how Scola's article is worded. I also notice Oberto's article does not even mention he is an Italian citizen either, which he is, through birth heritage. So actually, both Oberto's and Scola's articles should in fact reflect this.173.216.237.132 (talk) 18:20, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As you can see, Oberto is verified as Italian passport (due to the fact that he has Italian heritage - meaning parents or grandparents that were born in Italy), according to the official sites of Euroleague - [7] and the ACB League - [8] - and this is due to him being of Italian descent. So he should have Italy also marked as one of his nationalities, and also he should be marked as an Argentine of Italian descent, at least under categories. As for Scola, I am having more trouble finding an official source. I will keep looking. But I know that every summer when I watch the Argentine national team play they always refer to him like the others, as "Argentine of Italian descent", and his name Scola, is one of the most common Italian names. And I have never heard of him referred to as "Spanish descent" ever when he is playing in FIBA Americas for instance, it is always as "Italian descent" (like his name would also indicate). It is only in US sports media where they refer to him as being of Spanish descent, which I believe comes from the Spanish passport he had when he played in Spain, which as I said, under their current laws, he should not longer even have a Spanish passport, since he no longer lives in Spain and is not of Spanish descent. And just to further this, Scola was listed as a Spanish passport under the rules of players that lived there for 5 years and still played there. He was not listed under Spanish descent, which would mean he would keep his passport if he wanted to, even after he left Spain. I will look more for an official source on Scola, but for sure I already found it for Oberto. Anyway, I know for sure at least that Scola is definitely a common Italian name.173.216.237.132 (talk) 01:28, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Marcus Brown[edit]

Can you please help me with cleaning up the false claims that keep being put in the Marcus Brown article? It keeps being put that he is "the all-time leading scorer (or 2nd) of the Euroleague". This is totally false. As he is the 2nd leading scorer, since the year 2000. Then if you change it, it still comes up with things like, "2nd leading scorer of all-time". Again, this is not true. He is 2nd only since the year 2000. In fact, the "all-time" leading scorer of Euroleaague is Nikos Galis, and he has almost twice as many points scored as Brown does. Juan Carlos Navarro, for example, is first in scoring since the year 2000, and he is not even 2nd in "all-time" scoring either. Also, the claim was in the article that he was, "just one of four players all time to make 300 3 pointers in Euroleague". But again, this is only since the year 2000, not of "all-time". Also, it keeps being claimed that, "Brown was at one time, the highest paid American player to ever play in Europe". This is also false and untrue. Dominique Wilkins was paid $3.5 million net when he played in the Euroleague, in 1995-1996, with Panathinaikos. Marcus Brown was paid, at his peak, $2.5 million net in the 2004-05 season with CSKA Moscow. So, it is simply an untrue claim that he was, "at one time, the highest paid American player to ever play in Europe." Because Wilkins, in the Euroleague, made $1 million more in season salary, not counting inflation, 9 years earlier. If you edit the article to try to correct these mistakes, it seems like it just gets changed back, or that it still does not account for these errors. There certainly needs to be some type of understanding that "all-time" for Euroleague is not since the year 2000. The stats being talked about are only since the year 2000. Because ULEB is a separate company, so they keep separate stats than FIBA did. But there seems to be some confusion here. It is not like the NBA and ABA for example, where it was two different leagues. It is the same league, under two different boards. Like the BAA and the NBA - it is the same league. So the stats are not for "all-time", even if some websites or articles are mistakenly saying that. The info about being the highest paid American ever in Euroleague, "at one time", is simply false and wrong. If it says, "second highest paid" American ever in Euroleague, at one time, it would be right. I think we need to clean up some of the claims in this article, and explain it more clearly. Because, looking at some articles on the internet, that are obviously using the Wikipedia article as a source, then this article is linking back to them, despite some of the claims being erroneous.173.216.237.132 (talk) 20:09, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Preposterous Statement Tournament IV[edit]

Why do you and others continually remove the entries for Rashad McCant's upset victory in the Preposterous Statement Tournament IV? He did win it; it is notable. The tourney is held by a star host on a major market radio station that dominates its time slot. Read his winning statement:

Rashad McCants: playing in the D-League, after initially saying he was better than 70% of the NBA, "I was being modest saying 70 percent. My honest opinion is 95 percent. I don't even think there are top-tier All-Stars who are better than me, and they know who they are"

Christian Laettner[edit]

How can you leave the section in Laettner's biography (that's what it is right?) about his business ventures, including the West Village development but remove any information regarding the multiple judgements that creditors have secured against him and Davis? Here are 4 very recent, very reputable sources that go into great detail regarding the issue: The Wall Street Journal - NPR - The Buffalo News - WLEX TV online (story here has an AP byline).

However you desire to word it, if you leave out Dawkins, whatever - some mention of his multiple business failures and millions in outstanding judgements (which he repeatedly fails to even begin to take responsibility for as evidenced by the multiple court appearances by Dawkins' legal team to try to get a judge to force him to cooperate) needs to be stated in his Wikipedia page.24.59.250.249 (talk) 09:55, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your feedback. I have been working directly with Andre Moore on his page and this is the information he wished to display. All details have been confirmed directly with him for posting. I also specifically know his career history. If we removed the personal history(interests etc), would that be more acceptable? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Air Sess (talkcontribs) 21:27, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback again. I have basically followed Andre's career in Australia since he came into the league and I have followed the NBL for the last 25 years so have detailed accounts of his career. Sources of reference used were the NBL's official website and also Brisbane Bullet yearbooks from 1990-1994. I was a season ticket holder for over 15 years with the Bullets which covered Andre's Career here in Brisbane. Most material is essentially from publications prior to the Internet. Statistics were from nbl.com.au . Like I mentioned before I do know Andre very well and have confirmed all details with him. Things like NBL All Star appearances etc are not easily found on the internet but clearly published from old NBL Publications. We should really be able to reference all this information and just exclude the music interests and specific details of family members etc. Awards previously noted have been confirmed though. Thanks again — Preceding unsigned comment added by Air Sess (talkcontribs) 00:41, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ayanosh[edit]

Hello Zagalejo,
I thought the basketball players pages Mike Price etc. needed additional references.Only one reference does not really establish the notability of the person which can be the other tag that can be used ,my intention was only to point out that the articles will improve with more references and i still think the tag is valid on the articles (as of now) but if you differ, feel free to reach me on my talk page.Cheers Ayanosh (talk)

That was an excellent link to establish notability, so you have to explicitly cite this within the article. And more links should be added on Greg Howard,Walt Gilmore rather than only stats and i think till that is done we agree on the notability tag. Re: Bulls depth charts[edit]

How is it more "oversimplifying" than listing someone as a PG, SG, SF, PF, C in a roster chart? I copied one depth chart from a year to 1994-95 and forgot to switch out one position, doesn't mean they're all inaccurate and need to be shafted. You go to most any basketball website in a team section and they have depth charts just like they have roster lists, stats and game logs, I don't see it as any less relevant. A team generally has a starting unit, a bench unit and reserve players. --PDTantisocial (talk) 06:25, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
