Citing sources (e.g. printed sources)[edit]

Use the "ref" template and add the "<references/>" tag at the end of the page for the reference to be listed.

See this example:

Hi Zephfya. I'm replying from the helpme you left on the above page. I see you've already gotten advice from Q0k and it's very similar to what I would have said. So, since that still left you undsure of how to do it, let me try breaking it down into hopefully simpler bites.

Anything you place between ref tags (<ref>text</ref>) in an article formats as a footnote when you save wherever you place the template {{Reflist}}. You place the ref tags in the text, but they only appear there when you're looking behind the curtain, at the code in the article while editing. When you are reading the article in normal mode, the citations between ref tags you placed in the text appears in the references section at the end. There are citation templates which can help with formatting, such as {{cite book}}. These go in between the ref tags and make citing easier and more consistent to place. See here for a visual explanation of all this which might help.

So, if this was a sentences in an article that you wanted to place an inline citation to a book at the end, you'd type right here, just after this colon with no space:

Yes it does, thank you very much for your time and advice, I had two learning curves tonight, the fist QOK helped with and the second you were kind enough to respond to, I hope I have done it all correctly! You've done great work! That's almost OK. But do you know that [[Dog]] makes a hyperlink to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog? Just look: Dog. This is senseless to write "[[The Alchemyst, p.21]]", because the page The Alchemyst, p.21 does not exist (this is why the link is red). You should simply write "The Alchemyst, p.21", without any brackets.
Besides, the comma before the title should be replaced by "|", as the teplate looks like {{quote|You've done great work! That's almost OK.|Q0k|book title}}, but not like this: {{quote|You've done great work! That's almost OK.|Q0k,book title}}.
Book titles are usually enclosed by '' at each side to make them italic. So, the final is "{{quote|That's almost OK.|Q0k|''book title''}}", and it looks like this:

You've not corrected the quotation of the character "The Witch of Endor", as I see. There, you still have left the wrong configuration "{{quote|You've done great work! Thank you for spotting that! I've done that one now too, and also got the Michael Scott links after the quotes to direct to the author as opposed to the generic Michael Scott page! The only one that I just can't resolve is the header Josh Newman, it's still in red (which i now know means something is wrong!) I've worked through the night, it's 9:47 am here in the UK and I shall be seeing those pesky quotation marks in my sleep i'm sure! If you could please be so kind to indulge me your help one last time, could you advise me how to correct that please? I'll get to it as soon as I get back online from a much needed sleep! Reference attribution[edit]

Hi again Zephfya. I have reformatted all of the references you placed and I thought I'd describe a few issues since you are planning on sourcing other articles. You should provide full attribution, which includes, where available, author's name, publisher, date of publication and date you accessed the source. For example, for the Variety reference, the publisher is Variety. The author is Dave McNary, as listed on the Variety site, where the date of publication is also listed. Also, the title of the piece is whatever it is entitled at the external source (not "link" or "review"). So the full reference is:

Well, I don't know about modifying the first paragraph—the whole lead could do with a rewrite to be a summary of the article, per that guideline, but there are many other sources to mine on a quick look. Ok, i've re-worded the lead and made it concise and current, and removed the other contributors review, created a plot summary section with the summary from the book itself and put current links for everything I could think of to do! The page still has a request box at the top asking for sources and refs..but I don't understand why, could you take a look please and advise me what i need to do next to meet the criteria it's asking for? LOL! You added all those unreliable source templates yourself! I took care of it. I had added the template {{RS}} (which renders as:[unreliable source?]) to only the first citation (the one that was already present in the article). You removed that citation but you also apparently used the citation format from that citation, including the {{RS}} template I had added, as an example for the code in your most recent citations. Thus, when you added them you flagged each of them as unreliable sources by including the {{RS}} template. If you look you'll see that there are still uncited sentences in the article (outside of the plot summary, which doesn't need any) so the refimprove template is still relevant. Michael Scott[edit]

recommend write more about his books and his life. the lead is meant to summarise the article, at the moment, some parts of the lead don't appear in the article and the first section is 'Online Games', so there should be a section discussing his books. recommend inline citation for every paragraph after the lead, also maybe good to have some criticism to show the other side Tom B (talk) 15:19, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Children's Lit Assessment and Book Pages for The Secrets Of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel[edit]

I am shortly, or already have, assessed several pages for books in this series. I noticed on the talk pages you'd asked for assessment. That notice did not draw attention at our project page. As you continue to update the pages if you would like reassessment please feel free to make a request at our requesting assessment page. There are a couple of us who are active at the moment in assessing pages.

As I assess the pages I notice that some of the content is similar from page to page, including information about the video games and film. Information on a specific page should be about that specific book. So, for instance, since there only seems to be one film in the works, at least from what I can gleam from the info presented, it should just be on the page for The Alchemist and the series pages.
