Hey that's an excellent idea. I am on. Hakeem.gadi (talk) 09:19, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Arabic scripts

Thanks for adding the Arabic scripts to Ibrahim Touqan, al-Qarara and Wadi as-Salqa (I really wanted them for a while). If it's not too much trouble, could you add the Arabic script to Omar al-Qattan, Talal Arslan and Samih al-Qasim and if possible Jacir Palace (Qasr Jacir) whenever you have the time. Thanks! --Al Ameer son (talk) 20:34, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

  • Done ;) --Yazan (talk) 07:55, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks a lot man! --Al Ameer son (talk) 23:18, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you again, but could I get the Arabic script for Mabahith and Wadi al-Far'a. --Al Ameer son (talk) 15:50, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Anytime, ;) --Yazan (talk) 16:26, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! I'm glad you're not too bothered because I saw that the Qumran article has the Hebrew spelling but not the Arabic. The name sounds Arabic, next to the name is Khirbet and its in the West Bank, so I think the Arabic spelling is needed and put before the Hebrew. --Al Ameer son (talk) 07:16, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm happy to help in any capacity I can. Don't hesitate to let me know whenever you need Arabic scripts. Cheers. --Yazan (talk) 13:20, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Shukran y'akhi. Could I get one for Abd al-Qadir al-Husayni and Judean Mountains. The latter would be Jabal al-Khalil in Arabic. --Al Ameer son (talk) 21:01, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is, however, another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading your media there instead. That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!--OsamaK 11:46, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Image:Al-ulshi.jpg

Hello! I saw that you wrote on Image:Al-ulshi.jpg "[SyrianHistory.com]. Used with permission, as long as website is noted as source." Do you have a copy of the email send given you permission to use the image? Please send it to OTRS team. See more information on WP:OTRS. --Sdrtirs (talk) 08:18, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Ok, two questions- firstly, where does the site give the permission? Secondly, how are you so sure that the site owns the copyright anyway? I don't personally think it's their permission to give. J Milburn (talk) 10:40, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

This also applies to Image:Taj al-Din al-Hasani.jpg, and every images you have uploaded since the second of June. Please reply, it would be best to get to the bottom of this so that the images need not be deleted. J Milburn (talk) 10:45, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
The email I forwarded was an exchange between me and Sami Moubayed, who is the owner of the site, and he clearly gave me permission for the use of these photos. Sami Moubayed, who is a very well known syrian scholar (see here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sami_Moubayed), has acquired the photos from their original owners (mostly descendants from the people mentioned, as is clear on the about page on the site, http://syrianhistory.com/content/about-site-0). This is Sami's personal website (http://www.mideastviews.com/), you may contact him and clear this out. You can see that I put quite an effort into standardizing all these articles, I really would like to prove that these photos are legally used, in anyway possible. Yazan (talk) 11:59, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Ah, this all sounds pretty legitimate then. Could you please forward the email to OTRS as explained here with an explanation of which images it applies to and what you just explained to me? That way, the exact details of the copyright of the images is available to the Wikimedia Foundation. J Milburn (talk) 15:46, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Has the email been forwarded? J Milburn (talk) 16:44, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it's settled. I need to re-tag the photos with "Public Domain-Syria" but the thing the PD-Syria template from the wikimedia commons website (like in this photo, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Hashim_Atassi_signing_Franco_Syrian_treaty_1936.jpg) does not work on Wikipedia photos... What should I do? --Yazan (talk) 16:55, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
If they're public domain, perhaps it would be better to just upload them to Commons anyway? After all, they have the tag there, and if you upload them there, editors on other projects can easily use them. J Milburn (talk) 16:11, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Volunteering

Greetings Yazan! Some WP ARAB members and I decided to start a page to request Arabic scripts for articles. You've been a great help in this field and we would be delighted if you volunteered. If you decide to, list your name at the "Volunteers" section of the page. Cheers! --Al Ameer son (talk) 03:32, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

P.S. If you are not a member, please join! Arab-related articles on wikipedia need all the help possible. You could join at the member's page. --Al Ameer son (talk) 03:34, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Would love to. I put my name in both, WP-Arab and the volunteer section... cheers! --Yazan (talk) 04:55, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

There's no alif in the plural? I'm so used to seeing alifs in plurals. Badagnani (talk) 04:55, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

No this one is called Jame' Takseer (Broken Plural), it is an irregular kind of plural.

Hey, could you help me review the following article Abdulsalam haykal Quinn56 (talk) 17:53, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you. Just phoned him. He was really pissed off there was an entry on Wikipedia. He said if there is anything he wanted that public it was what he wrote. I was equally pissed off and didn't hide it, as he didn't make any effort to hide his anger. What's the deal? Thank you anyway. Quinn56 (talk) 18:44, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Abu Firas al-Hamdani

A tag has been placed on Abu Firas al-Hamdani requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Synergy 09:50, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Embassy of Russia in Damascus

Hi Zozo2kx, thanks firstly for your Arabic translations in a couple of the Russia-Syria related articles. In relation to Embassy of Russia in Damascus, I am trying to source information on the chancery (this being the building in which the embassy is located). As I don't speak Arabic, and it is likely that notable information on the building, such as built when, architect, history of building, etc, would be in Arabic, would you be so kind as to do a search for information for me on this, and either add it to the article, or post links etc and I can possibly use Google translate for the Arabic-English and garnish information that way. Also, are you in Damascus yourself? If so, do you or someone you know may be in the position to take a photo of the chancery for use in the article? Cheers --Россавиа Диалог 14:32, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

I will try to find some stuff about it, right now I am traveling though. I am not based in Damascus, but I will be there next month, and will take a photo of the building. Yazan (talk) 05:23, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi; is this category name a typo? Shouldn't it be Category:Cyprus–Syria relations, like the other ones? Good Ol’factory (talk) 23:07, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Oops, that's a typo. Thanks for the tip. I cant delete the category, can you please fix it? Thanks. Yazan (talk) 04:29, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Sure, I'll change it based on your saying it's OK to go ahead and do so. Good Ol’factory (talk) 04:34, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Done; thanks! Good Ol’factory (talk) 04:36, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Perfect, thanks. Yazan (talk) 04:37, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

+963

I don't understand what the point of the disambiguation page at +963 is, since there's only one item. Why not just redirect to Telephone numbers in Syria, to follow the pattern of +44, +91, and others? —KCinDC (talk) 08:54, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Point taken. Yazan (talk) 09:02, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. One of the core policies of Wikipedia is that articles should always be written from a neutral point of view. A contribution you made to Syria appears to carry a non-neutral point of view, and your edit may have been changed or reverted to correct the problem. Please remember to observe our core policies. Thank you. I have reverted your edit because it did not adhere to WP:NPOV. Israeli occupation is POV, Israel and the Golan Heights is not. Please read the NPOV policy before you edit the section again. Terrillja (talk) 03:03, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Syria GA

No problem, Syria reaching GA status is very important to me and to the Arab World WikiProject and I will certainly help make it reach that status. I made some expansions in the early Islamic era, but I haven't looked at the rest of the article. Also, I was never involved in editing articles on countries, so this will be kind of new to me as well. I will notify WikiProject Arab World, hopefully we could get some additional help and advice there. Ma' as-Salamey --Al Ameer son (talk) 04:46, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Syria-United States relations, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Syria-United States relations has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Syria-United States relations, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Request to move article Pakistani - Syrian relations incomplete

You recently filed a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page Pakistani - Syrian relations to a different title - however your proposal is either incomplete or has been contested as being controversial. As a result, it has been moved to the incomplete and contested proposals section. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

  1. Added {{move|NewName}} at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
  2. Added a place for discussion at the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved. This can easily be accomplished by adding {{subst:RMtalk|NewName|reason for move}} to the bottom of the page, which will automatically create a discussion section there.
  3. Added {{subst:RMlink|PageName|NewName|reason for move}} to the top of today's section here.

If you need any further guidance, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves or contact me on my talk page. - JPG-GR (talk) 17:46, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
