Utraula is a city and a municipal board in Balrampur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is approximately 90 kilometres from the border with Nepal and is 175 km in north east of capital city Lucknow. Utraula is situated near the West Rapti River.
As of 2011 Indian Census, Utraula had a total population of 32,145. Males constitute 76.2% of the population and females 66.61%. Utraula has an average literacy rate of 67.68%, lower than the national average of 71.48%: male literacy is 61%, and female literacy is 46%. In Utraula, 14.52% of the population is under 6 years of age. The Muslim Khanzada form a large part of rural population.
