Vanguarda Agro is a publicly traded Brazilian agribusiness company founded in 2003 in Rio de Janeiro as Brasil Ecodiesel, a biodiesel producer. In 2011, after the merger with Maeda Agroindustrial and Vanguarda Participações, the company changed its name to Vanguarda Agro and moved its headquarters to São Paulo.[1] Vanguarda Agro has approximately 254 thousand of hectares of land divided into 13 production units in five Brazilian states. It is the largest private land holder in the country.[citation needed]
