Vijayendra Saraswathi (born 13 March 1969) is the 70th Jagadguru of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Kanchipuram. He becomes the senior Pontiff of the Kanchi Mutt on 28 February 2018 with the attainment of samadhi of Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamiji, the 69th Pontiff.[1]

Biography[edit]

Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi was born in 1969 in Thandalam, Tiruvallur. He attended a village school in his native village and studied the Vedas with his father, Sri Krishnamurthy Sastri, a Vedic scholar and teacher. He joined the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham when he was 14 and was named 70th Peetadipati in 1987.[2]

Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal was born the eighth child of a Vedic scholar, Sri M Krishnamurthy Sastri, and Smt.Ambalakshmi in 1969. Named Sankara Narayanan, he was a native of village Thandalam in Tiruvallur district and was born in Arni in Tiruvannamalai district.
