Vivo is a Chinese technology company that designs, develops, and manufactures smartphones, smartphone accessories, software, and online services. It was founded in 2009 in Dongguan, Guangdong,China. The brand utilises Hi-Fi chips in its smartphones.[1] Software developed by the company includes the Vivo App Store, iManager, and a proprietary Android-based operating system called Funtouch OS.

In 2012 Vivo released the X1.[2] The X1 was also the first Vivo phone to use a Hi-Fi chip, developed by American semiconductor company Cirrus Logic.[2] Vivo followed this up in 2013 by releasing the world’s first 2k-resolution screen phone, the Xplay3s.[3] Other popular phones in the Vivo lineup include the X5Pro, the X5Max, and the Xshot.

Vivo joined the ranks of the top 10 smartphone makers in the first quarter of 2015 with a global market share of 2.7%.[4] With research and development centers in Shenzhen and Nanjing, the company employed 1,600 R&D personnel as of January 2016.[5] Vivo smartphones is currently the sponsor for the Indian Premier League editions 2016 and 2017.

Brand growth[edit]

Registered for the first time in 2009, Vivo has since become registered in over 100 countries around the world. Vivo began its international expansion in 2014 when it entered the Thai market.[6] The company quickly followed this up by launching in India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and the Philippines.[7][8][9][10]

Advertising campaigns[edit]

In June 2017, Vivo retains the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League and bags sponsorship for the next five years with a mammoth bid of Rs 2,199 crore - a massive 500 percent increase from their previous deal with the IPL.[11]

In October 2015, Vivo became the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League under a two-year deal starting in the 2016 season.[12][13]

In June 2017, Vivo reached a sponsorship deal with FIFA to become the official smartphone brand of the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup.[14]

In July 2017, Vivo became the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League under a four-year deal starting in the 2018 season.[15]

Brand ambassadors[edit]

In Indonesia, Vivo Smartphone hires Agnes Monica, Afgan Syahreza, Pevita Pearce, Prilly Latuconsina, and Al Ghazali as the brand ambassador. In Malaysia, the company hires Dato' Siti Nurhaliza for the same purpose. In The Philippines, McCoy de Leon is the first Filipino Vivo Ambassador. In India, they chose Ranveer Singh as their Indian Ambassador. In Myanmar Famous Singers Wyne Su Khine Thein and Hlwan Paing are Myanmar Brand ambassador.
